Number 30
Toadie and Shane arrive home but there is no news of Sonya. Dipi can't believe the police aren't getting involved so far. Ned calls to say she isn't at the school and Shane thinks given the conditions, Sonya couldn't have gotten far.
Hospital
Bea and Xanthe are checking the hospital for Sonya when she literally drags herself in.
(Later)
Toadie arrives and Xanthe gives him an update on Sonya - she is very dehydrated (so has a drip in) and has a bit of a temperature too. She also tells him of when Sonya first arrived, she was very distressed and saying that her head wasn't right.
A very relieved Toadie makes his way into Sonya's room and is after answers but she doesn't have them. He can see she is shivering and attempts to go get her a blanket, but she literally grips onto him so that he can't leave her.
Coffee Hut (next day)
After reading about what Sheila is up to in Rotorua, Xanthe breaks the news to her dad about her summer job. He isn't exactly thrilled over where she is going to be working and for whom although Xanthe reminds him that he also works for Paul. They cut their chat short when Xanthe spots Gary has a customer at the hut that he knows - Kev McNally.
Hospital (exterior)
Karl catches Toadie outside having a coffee to give him the good news that Sonya is likely to be discharged later in the day, the blood tests (alcohol and toxicology) won't be back yet for a few days. "Do you think that's necessary?" Toadie asks (in relation to the blood tests) but Karl reassures him that its standard procedure given how Sonya was when she arrived at the hospital. Both are still unsure why Sonya went walkies other than she wanted to talk to Toadie.
Toadie also mentions to Karl that he's waiting on a call to hear if Susan can leave the country since he knows that Karl needs to get to Holly.
The Waterhole
News is spreading of the latest engagement as Xanthe and Piper congratulate the happy couple. We hear that there is no word on the actual wedding, that will be discussed in the New Year, but they will have an engagement party before Christmas.
Susan relays the news, after a text from Toadie, to say Sonya is being released later. Bea is very much surprised given the state she arrived at the hospital in.
Meanwhile at their own table, Xanthe tells Piper that Gary isn't exactly thrilled with the job offer but the lass seems resigned to having to take it as they need the money.
Coffee hut
Kev is questioning Gary about the change of job and tempts him with a "job offer" if he fancies another change. Naturally Gary thinks Paul is behind the offer, but Kev says his boss is called Joseph and the driving job is very easy money. "I'm legit," Gary makes clear to Kev but he's not giving up and leaves his number with Gary in case he changes his mind.
Hospital
Sonya is getting agitated with the nurse as she thinks he is giving her drugs but Toadie's timely arrival reassures her that the nurse is simply changing her saline drip. "Now I feel stupid," she admits as the nurse leaves the room but Toadie soothes her by saying its worth double checking and the nurse has probably seen a lot worse!
Toadie gives her the good news that Karl says she can come home this afternoon, but Sonya doesn't want to leave, telling him that she doesn't feel right.
Number 26
Xanthe is dressed in her work uniform ready to go to work, but Gary isn't happy at her working for Paul and helping him pay off his debt.
GARY: Can you stop being so responsible and act like a normal teenager.
He tells her about the payment plan he's drawn up with Amy although when she sees it on the laptop, she seems aghast its going to take 10 years to pay off.
XANTHE: You have to let me help you.
GARY: I am not taking money from my own daughter, I'm supposed to be helping you!
Xanthe gets his position but equally doesn't want him slaving away to help fulfil her dream and whether he likes it or not, is going to help pay the debt off.
Number 30
Shane comes over for an update on Sonya and to see if they are any further forward on where she went (they aren't). He then tells Toadie about what happened at The Waterhole last week with the glass of alcohol on the table and that he thought she was going to drink it.
SHANE: I feel that someone needs to ask the question, is it possible that Sonya's fallen off the wagon?
TOADIE: Sonya has the flu.
Shane gives him a look that says 'liar' so Toadie asks if he thinks Sonya has been drinking and hiding it from him? "I feel we need to ask the question," Shane replies and Alice de-lurks to join in the conversation by reminding Toadie that he said Sonya hasn't been acting herself.
Hospital
Dipi arrives at the hospital to see how her sister-in-law is doing. She tells Sonya that Toadie was so worried about her and that he loves her so much. At that point, Sonya begins crying and tells Dipi that she is so scared. "What's happened?" a puzzled Dipi asks and eventually Sonya tells her about almost having a drink last night but somehow managed to walk away. "That's the most important part," Dipi reassures her with and Sonya doesn't want to tell Toadie, hence why she came to the hospital because she knew there, she'd be safe. Dipi urges her to tell Toadie so that he can help her.
Number 28
Bea is searching for cheap flights to London, but she will only need to buy 1 ticket as Susan's application to leave the country has been turned down. "I guess its just easier for them to say no," is Susan's rationale and he will cope fine without her. Karl is now swithering whether to go or not, but Susan tells him he is going, she will be fine with the girls, so he heads off to the bedroom to pack.
Before Karl headed off to pack, Susan got the impression that he was being very cool towards Bea, so once they are alone, she asks Bea if she was imagining things. Bea reveals that she thinks Karl blames her for what happened.
SUSAN: Well he shouldn't, I was the one that pushed Finn.
Bea goes to start blaming herself, but Susan stops her immediately and adds that she will talk to Karl. "Let me talk to him," the lass pleads, she feels that since she started it, she has to finish it.
Coffee hut
Gary gets a strange tip in his tip jar - a scratch card but sadly isn't a winner. He then tosses the coin and whatever the result was, the action is him retrieving Kev's phone number from the bit of paper in his pocket.
Number 28
When Karl comes out with his bag packed and still cranky at her, Bea decides its time to talk! "Is this about Finn?" she asks, and the lass receives such a disgusting look back, that he gets chastised by Susan and a reminder that she's responsible for her own actions. He is angry at Bea for not leaving things alone, the police had it all in hand.
SUSAN: Bea's not responsible for what Finn did!
BEA: But I am responsible for what I did. I should never have tried to get him back here. Susan is in this mess because of my dumb decisions.
(turning around to look at Susan)
BEA: I am really sorry.
KARL: No. No, I'm sorry.
He acknowledges that she was affected by Finn as much as everyone else and shouldn't have got worked up. Bea gets it and says its okay but to Karl it isn't okay, she was right to bring it up. "Does this mean we are all good now?" she asks, and they walk to each other and hug it out and Karl tells her that he is sorry at the same time.
Hospital
Toadie is surprised to see Sonya still in the hospital bed when he arrives. He goes to hug her, but she wards him off doing that until she's spoken to him. "What's happened?" he asks, and she tells him about what happened last night - when she was out, she ran into some drunk people and they offered her a drink.
SONYA: I didn't take it, but I really, I wanted to.
She and admits that because she's been so down, she has also been wanting to drink for a few days now to help it all go numb.
SONYA: I don't actually understand why, why I've been struggling so much with it, but I, I'm mean I swear to you, that I haven't had anything. Okay I know you have so many reasons not to believe me and that we've been here before, but I promise you, I promise you that I haven't touched anything.
Toadie doesn't react to what she said, so she asks if he believes her or not?
TOADIE: Yes, every time. Yes, absolutely. Whatever is going on, we will get through this okay.
She wonders if he is angry with her and he is quick to say "no" and reaffirms that they will work through this together going to meetings or counselling.
TOADIE: Whatever it takes.
Sonya is ever so relived that he is going to support her, but one person isn't - Alice who has been lurking outside her room listening to the conversation.
TOADIE: Listen to me. You said no and then you walked away and now you're telling me about it. If anything, I'm proud of you for having enough guts to actually ask for help when you're struggling.
SONYA: Just thank you for believing me, for loving me Jarrod.
TOADIE: I will always love you... forever.
And on hearing that word 'forever' Alice looks like she is ready to throttle someone!
Coffee hut
Kev gives Gary his instructions for the job he has to carry out but is warned to keep his head down and not pay too much attention. "Are you in?" Kev asks, and Gary confirms he is.
Hospital
"Thank you for believing in me and for not judging me," Sonya tells Toadie as they lie cuddled up together on her bed. That is no hardship for Toadie as he adores his wife even if she is a mess... well his mess!
Number 30
And back home it looks like Alice is concocting a new plan - she's poured some chemical pesticide (that is a poison) into a bowl and is soaking Sonya's work gloves in it all accompanied to her singing 'London bridge is falling down'.
Hospital
The Rebecchi's reflect on what a torrid past couple of years they've had.
Number 30
Continuing the song, Alice takes the gloves out and allows them to drip dry on the draining rack.
Hospital
Toadie thinks that they are now due some good luck!
SONYA: Amen to that! Hear that universe, let's have some good luck down here please, pronto!
Number 30
The signing finally stops when Alice takes the rubber gloves she had on carefully off and puts them in the bin.
It's a good thing that Hugo is too young to understand what is going on as he watched what Alice was doing.
ALICE: (to Hugo) What, they left me with no choice. If he can't stop loving her, she has to go!
