- Aaron and David tell Mark and Chloe that Aaron is going to be the donor.
- Chloe urges Aaron not to be the donor, saying it's too rushed.
- Aaron says he's going to stick to his and David's plan.
- Chloe tells Aaron she has the gene for Huntington's Disease.
- Alice hears Sonya talking about Andrea's mother on the baby monitor.
- Toadie asks Paul if the PI used to track down Andrea ever mentioned Andrea's mother.
- Alice urges Sonya not to track down Andrea's mother. Sonya insists that they will though.
- Piper says the information about Andrea's mother will be posted via envelope under the door at the Law office. Alice overhears.
- Andrea whacks Piper over the head and takes the document.
Alice knocks a load of files onto the floor and messes the office up, hoping to make it look like a break- in. As the alarm goes off, she yells for help and Ned appears. He checks to see if Piper's breathing and tells Alice to call an ambulance.
David explains Huntington's Disease to the Brennan family. There is a 50% chance that Mark and Aaron have inherited it, passed down from either their mother or father. Aaron wonders what the odds are of any of their children getting it; David explains that the odds are the same. Mark says they should tell Fay and Tyler but Chloe thinks the gene must have been passed on from Russell as Fay would be showing symptoms by now.
ELLY: How long have you known?
CHLOE: Since a month before Aaron and David's wedding.
Aaron loses his temper with Chloe, thinking she should have mentioned her diagnosis much earlier.
Karl tells Piper that she's got moderate concussion so will be kept in overnight for observation. Terese asks Piper if she remembers what happened and she explains that she went to get a file about Andrea's mother for Toadie. Karl says the police think she interrupted an intruder. Ned tells Piper that Toadie's nanny found her.
TERESE: Thank goodness for Alice.
Piper looks confused.
Toadie comes home and Alice asks if the police found any clues. He says they haven't before asking why Alice was near his office as bingo is nowhere near there. She explains that it finished early so she stopped at The Waterhole for a drink. Sonya walks in looking disorientated and Toadie tells her about the attack on Piper. He then heads off to the hospital to check on her.
SONYA: So brave what you did.
ALICE: Yeah well, no more than any decent person would've done. Look I tell you what, why don't you go back to bed, have your cup of tea there.
SONYA: Ok, thank you.
ALICE: My pleasure.
Alice grabs the confidential file from her bag and reads it furiously, before tearing it up.
Chloe walks into the kitchen having just woken up. Elly greets her sat at the dining table with some paperwork. Chloe says she was hoping everyone would be gone by the time she woke up but Elly has some free periods.
CHLOE: How was Mark afterwards?
ELLY: Yeah, he wanted to take last night to process everything. But he'll talk to me when he's ready. How are you?
CHLOE: Aaron was right. I was only thinking about myself.
ELLY: You were protecting your brothers, that's the opposite of selfish.
Chloe explains that she didn't want pity which is part of why she didn't say anything. Elly then asks if anyone else knows, to which Chloe responds that Pierce does. Elly holds Chloe's hand, reassuring her that she has the complete support of her family in this difficult time. Chloe tells her to go and be with Mark which she does after giving Chloe a hug.
Chloe looks emotional.
Mark and David find Aaron looking over the lake. David tells Aaron that he's booked the brothers in for a genetic test with Karl, to see if they carry the Huntington's gene. Aaron seems overwhelmed, but reluctantly agrees to go to the appointment. He storms off to work, leaving David looking very concerned about him.
Toadie gives Piper some flowers and she is taken aback, saying he didn't need to visit again. Leo asks Toadie if anything was stolen from the office and he says only his laptop. The petty cash tin wasn't even taken. Piper mentions that some skaters were hanging around so it could have been a bunch of bored kids looking for thrills.
Elly tells Chloe she's going to see Mark. Karl walks in as she exits, having come to check on Chloe. He tells her that Mark and Aaron have booked in for the genetic test. She says she can't pretend it's not real now, but hopes people won't treat her differently, like she's ‘special'.
CHLOE: I don't wanna make people feel uncomfortable because they feel sorry for me. From now on, I'm always going to be the ‘girl who has Huntington's'.
Sonya and Toadie look at the damage made to the office via the break- in, while Alice tends to Hugo in his pram. Toadie seems concerned about Sonya as she's been so tired but she says she's felt much more relaxed recently. Yashvi walks in.
YASHVI: Heard you got busted into. What's the damage? Well why don't you look for yourself.
Sonya picks up a smashed photo of her and Jarrod. Yashvi asks after Piper and Toadie says that she's ok. Rather than just being a pain, he ropes her into helping. Alice subtly drops the file about Andrea's 'mother' on the floor when they're not looking. Toadie quickly discovers it and draws Sonya's attention to it.
TOADIE: No wonder we couldn't find her. She's dead.
Alice looks really pleased with herself.
Mark and Elly discuss recent events. He keeps talking about Chloe, clearly bottling up the effects the revelation has had on him, saying there's no point in worrying until he knows what he's dealing with.
MARK: If my life had gone the way I'd planned I'd have kids by now. And they would…I mean…I still want kids of course.
ELLY: Well no matter what the result is, you'll still have me.
They head to the hospital.
Mark, Chloe, Elly and David are at the hospital for the appointment with Karl. Aaron hasn't arrived yet, prompting David to ring him. Karl asks Mark if he has any questions about the process or Huntingtons to which Mark asks how long the results will take. Karl says a couple of weeks but could be sooner. He explains that there's no ambiguity with test results for Huntingtons.
MARK: And if it does come back positive, how long until…
CHLOE: From the time the symptoms first appear 10 to 30 years, normally about 15.
Elly strokes Chloe's knee in an attempt to comfort her. David is unable to get hold of Aaron, so tells Karl to go ahead with Mark.
Aaron tells David that he's not taking the test as he's looked online and the prognosis doesn't look good. David encourages him that there are medical break- throughs happening all the time. Aaron says he doesn't want David to become his carer.
DAVID: But that's what love is. It's unconditional. Would you do the same for me?
AARON: Yes of course I would. You know I would.
DAVID: Yes, I do.
AARON: We've only just started thinking about having kids.
DAVID: And we can still have a family.
AARON: No we can't, not with this ticking time- bomb, I'm not gonna do that to any child.
David continues trying to make Aaron see sense, but he doesn't and won't take the test.
Piper returns home greeted by Clementine, who Piper says can sense when she's in trouble. Leo, Ned and Terese make a fuss of her with Leo saying they should draw up a roster to look after her. Yashvi bounds into the room apologizing that she couldn't visit hospital.
YASHVI: I got roped into helping Unc Whip- cracker clean his office.
PIPER: How's the mess?
YASHVI: Worst- planned robbery ever.
NED: Why's that?
YASHVI: My room is more trashed and…they barely took anything.
Piper says the whole thing makes no sense. Out of all the places in the complex, they chose to rob somewhere right next to the police station.
Mark finds Aaron, telling him he knew he wouldn't turn up. Aaron continues to demonstrate how scared he is about his fate, which prompts Mark to encourage him to forgive Chloe. Mark points out that Aaron is terrified and he doesn't even know his fate yet, while Chloe's is set in stone. It looks like Aaron is starting to come round.
Toadie and Sonya discuss the document about Andrea's mother, which says she died in a house fire. Alice interrupts as she walks by with Hugo, asking whether Sonya wants to accompany her on the walk home. Sonya declines.
TOADIE: What I don't get is how Andrea didn't know that her mum is dead. The way she was talking last time was as if she was planning on seeing her.
Sonya says Andrea might have been hard to find when her mother died.
TOADIE: Well I'd better call Willow, let her know. The question is, do we tell Andrea?
SONYA: I think we should.
TOADIE: Something like this could really set back her recovery.
SONYA: Do you think we should wait until she's stronger?
TOADIE: Well according to this, her mum's already been dead for over a year.
Toadie is upset that there's no- one else to take responsibility for Andrea, but Sonya doesn't seem phased. He comments on her care- free attitude and they kiss, while Alice watches from afar in absolute disgust.
Mark and Aaron comfort Chloe, who is sitting on the sofa in tears. In the garden, David asks Leo why things can't just be easy for once.
Alice approaches David in the street, thanking him for helping her with her (self- inflicted) hand injury. She continues to probe him for information and he advises her not to come off the tablets quickly as she's on a high dose and that could cause withdrawal symptoms. He heads off. She turns the pram away and talks gleefully to Hugo:
ALICE: Don't stop suddenly. (smiles) Severe withdrawal symptoms.
Alice engages in another psychotic monologue with baby Hugo:
ALICE: It's almost time for Sonya's medicine. But. We both heard what the doctor said, didn't we (giggles).
She recites a nursery rhyme and excitedly pours all the tablets down the sink.
ALICE: Now the fun begins.
Hugo fixates on Alice as she basks in her evil plan.
