Terese is lamenting the lame excuse she gave Paul about why Jane couldn't stay at Lassiter's. Leo points out that things aren't as bad as they are for Karl and Susan and they planned this as a group. They agree that Jane and Paul would make a good couple. Leo thinks that Amy will fare better. They share a kiss.
Amy arrives and tells them to find a room! They ask how things went. Amy isn't sure and thought Paul might have listened to what she had to say. She doesn't know if he will reveal all to Jane.
Paul comes in and goes to pour himself a drink. He notices a scarf on the sofa and goes over and picks it up. He takes out his phone and rings Jane. Jane (unseen) is on her way back from dinner with Clive and Paul invites her for a night cap. Jane agrees and Paul rings off.
David and Aaron are sitting on the sofa. Aaron tells David he has been doing research which impresses David that he's got going so soon. Aaron insists it's hypothetical but wants to be prepared when it's the right time. Aaron admits surrogacy appeals more than co- parenting with a woman or lesbian couple. David suggests adoption. Aaron points out the process would be long and they might not succeed. Aaron checks if David minds talking about this which he is as they're just talking. David agrees that adoption or co- parenting aren't their best options. Aaron wants them to have their own family instead of co- parenting. They both agree on surrogacy with a kiss.
Elly is being updated by Susan (unseen) over the phone. They haven't told Susan the information so she can't relate it to Elly. Elly rings off as Mark arrives and she greets him. Elly tells him that she has been rejected by the Department as Acting Principal. She doesn't know who the replacement is. Mark sees the chance of spending more time together as a positive if she is happy about that.
MARK: I've been an idiot too. I should have looked at things from your point of view and I didn't.
Mark realises that not saying anything for Chloe or Susan's sake wasn't easy. Elly agrees with this. Mark tells her that Chloe thinks Elly is great even though she drives Mark crazy! Mark thinks it's great they get on well. Elly admits she didn't like lying to him and she hadn't intended to hurt him. She really wanted to tell him, he tells her that she doesn't need to tell him this. Mark realises she intended to protect her Aunt and sister. Mark has done the same for his loved ones. Mark doesn't know how scared she was, she admits it was terrifying.
Aaron points out that the Brennan genes in many departments are great as Mark and Elly arrive home. David challenges Aaron to name three – abs, pecs, biceps! David points out he has brains, focus, business flair! Elly wants to leave if they're doing strange role play! Aaron explains they're working out the best male donor when they have a child. Mark is surprised they're thinking about this so soon. Aaron and David explain they are at the planning stage. They ask for Mark and Elly's opinion. Mark doesn't want to get involved! David wants Mark to be unbiased, Aaron wants him to be biased. Mark wants Elly to go first. Elly tries to choose but is unable to choose one of them. David and Aaron head off to see to the fish and Elly says she needs to leave. They agree to have lunch together the next day and kiss goodbye.
Jane and Paul are sitting on the sofa. Paul asks for an update on how Jane is getting on with her children. Jane tells him her children came to her grandmother Nell's funeral and they had a good chat which pleases Paul.
JANE: Children are important and we spent far too long at odds.
Jane realised that she had missed working but doesn't think he would ever do the same! Paul agrees as he lives above it! Jane asks what's happening with the electrics. Now she's settled she doesn't want to leave too soon as long as he doesn't mind. Paul is happy for her to stay as long as she wants to. Jane realises with a shock that it's after 2 AM and she needs to go to bed. Paul thought they were having a lovely time. Jane agrees but she has a meeting with Terese in the morning and he needs to be at work. She thanks him for a lovely evening and Paul suggests they repeat it the next night. Jane is happy to have their own routine and kisses him goodnight on the cheek. She's forgotten her scarf, Paul picks it up and looks at it.
Amy, David and Leo are sitting at a table together. Amy is enthusing about David and Aaron's future baby plans. She knows they will go through a lot first but as parents they will be amazing. David tells her it won't be for a few years yet. Leo agrees with Amy they will be great parents, David hopes that will be the case. Leo gets a text from Terese. Terese has gleamed the information that Paul got room service for two the night before. Amy hopes Paul had someone with him!
Paul comes over and greets them all. Paul tells Leo he's keen on his Brewery Tour idea for the Backpackers Retreat and wants to organise it as soon as possible. Paul heads off and leaves Leo surprised! David wonders exactly what happened. Amy thinks it was what took place after room service was delivered!
Jane is surprised she isn't needed for much as they could have organised it over e- mail. Terese thinks it's better for productivity to have face to face meetings. Jane has enjoyed meeting up with a school and college friend and Clive. Terese is pleased for her. Terese coyly mentions her meetup with Paul! Jane explains they were talking till after 2 AM the night before which Terese is glad about. Jane brings up Paul and Terese's history and asks if they still have any feelings for each other. Terese tries to answer and Jane apologies for asking. Terese says it's ok and it is now history. Jane wants to know if Paul is single, Terese confirms he is.
Gary and Elly are standing and chatting by the counter. Gary offers his support to Elly's family. Mark arrives for coffee. Elly apologises but needs to go as everyone is needed at the school at the moment. After the incidents lately some kids are still at home but the ones at school have been noticeably uncomfortable. Gary understands this. Elly tells him they've switched the classrooms and offices around without checking with anyone. Elly says it's annoying as she's able to cover for Susan but she isn't allowed to by the Department. No one is in charge at the moment. She hopes that they find someone capable to do the job soon.
Leo and Terese are walking across the Complex together when Amy comes over to see them. Amy brings up the subject of Aaron and David wanting to start a family. Terese hadn't known but she is really pleased for them. Leo points out that it won't be in the near future. Amy reminds Leo he needs to support David. Leo agrees but won't go crazy over the child who isn't here yet. Amy thinks he will change his mind but Leo is fine about being an Uncle. Terese is looking a bit uncomfortable about this chat. Amy reminds him about Mishti which Leo points out was different.
AMY: People who say never eventually decide they don't want to miss out.
There is an awkward silence which Amy seems to pick up on. She hastily adds that Leo won't have to miss out on this. She starts rambling about choosing not to have kids and the advantages to this. She realises she has gone too far and apologises for being insensitive. Terese insists it's ok and says they're pleased for David and Aaron.
Paul and Jane are sitting at a table. Jane is fiddling with her phone and apologises at the same time. She puts her phone down and Paul asks how long she's sticking around for. It will be for a while. She points out they've spent so much time talking about her and wants to hear about him. He brushes her off with he hasn't much to tell. She knew about David and Aaron's wedding from social media. Paul agrees it was amazing and Jane agrees how happy the family looked. Jane is sure there will be more weddings in the family but Paul isn't so keen and laughs that there will be a lot of cost! Changing the subject quickly he offers her another drink. Jane gets another message and pays attention to her phone. Unusually Terese is behind the bar and comments Jane and Paul are having a lovely time, Paul agrees.
TERESE: It's good to see you not looking so miserable for a change.
Paul admits Jane has helped with him not being so miserable. Terese comments how they look lovely together. Paul asks if she is happy about it, she is. Paul agrees that Jane is special.
Leo is on his laptop at the worktop, Piper is standing next to him. Leo is amazed Piper thinks the brewery tour is too expensive. The price covers beer tasting at each brewery and the cost of the bus. Piper reminds him it's just what she thinks and she's the age range he's aiming at. Leo is thinking with his business head and not expecting everything to be free! Terese has arrived home and tells him he can check the figures with her in the morning. Terese is heading upstairs for a shower and Leo wants to join her. Terese offers for him to go before her. Leo worries that what Amy said is on Terese's mind. Terese insists she's fine though it was awkward. She will come upstairs soon.
Leo heads upstairs and Piper asks what the awkward moment was. Terese explains about Amy's comment about Leo wanting kids, Leo has stated he doesn't want children. Piper wants to know what has caused the problem. Terese thinks that the clock will tick and Leo will change his mind. Piper reminds her that people don't have kids and are still happy. Terese is unsure but Piper insists that Terese listens to Leo. Terese thinks she might have to ignore the reality of dating a younger man. Piper suggests that Terese doesn't react to every thoughtless comment. Terese says she won't be with Leo if he decides he wants children. Piper points out they won't be together if Leo is hit by a bus! Terese isn't very impressed! Piper apologises but is just pointing out it's true. Terese doesn't want her or Leo ending up hurt. Piper says they can't work out the future in advance and asks if Terese doesn't want to be in a relationship if it stops her getting hurt.
Elly arrives to see the table all laid out. Mark asks how her day went, she's had a lot going on. There isn't a Principal either. Elly would love to sleep for a few days! Mark has got lasagne in the oven plus ice cream for afters and has a new pilot of a series to watch. Elly suggests wine which Mark agrees to.
MARK: I want you to know that I'm going to work on my trust issues. It's always been a problem for me and it's happened with most of the people I've been with. I know that's not fair on you.
Elly is pleased he's going to work to sort it out. Mark wishes he hadn't reacted the way he did about Finn. He reassures her she wasn't the problem and she tried to do the right thing. He wants to be with her and it wouldn't be possible if he didn't think he was able to trust her. Elly agrees she wants the same thing. They kiss.
Leo comes down the stairs to find Terese sitting on the sofa. He is worried she planned to sleep on the sofa. She hadn't planned that but was pondering Amy's comment. Leo offers to speak to Amy but Terese doesn't want them to dwell on the matter. Terese does wonder if the age gap will be more of an issue as time goes on. Leo doesn't think it will matter. Terese tells him he doesn't plan on having children but if he changes his mind she can't give him children. She's already had children. He might have wanted children with Mishti and it's possible he might want children in the future. Leo tells her he came around to the idea of being a father when Mishti became pregnant. It was his responsibility but not what he preferred to do. He'd choose being with Terese over having children if he had to make a choice. Terese wants to be with Leo as well.
TERESE: I love you.
LEO: I love you too. (They share a kiss.)
It's the next morning and Elly is hurrying to get ready. Mark realises he should regret making her late but he doesn't! They share a kiss and she is touched he made a lunchbox for her. She will only miss the staff meeting so he's done her a favour! They share a kiss, and Elly heads off.
MARK: Love you.
ELLY: Love you too.
David is talking about Leo having asthma as a child but it wasn't such an issue for David. (I don't know if this means David had it or not.) David is more concerned about Paul's brain tumour and depression. Aaron is worrying about family history of heart problems, Russell had a heart attack, Russell's mother had heart problems. David thinks they should go ahead with blood tests anyway and Aaron agrees. Aaron ponders having more than one child, David hasn't thought past one child! David wants a couple of kids, it was great to have a brother as a child despite arguments. Aaron agrees and always wanted more than one child. Aaron points out they could both be donors, they just need to decide who goes first out of the two of them. Aaron plans to toss a coin, David chooses heads. They look at the result and at each other.
Elly comes quickly into the school and touches up her face in her phone mirror. A familiar voice calls out to 'Miss Conway', it turns out Jane is sitting behind Susan's desk. Elly comments how things are different! Jane has guessed that Elly is Miss Conway as she was the only absentee from the meeting. Elly tells her she's happy for Jane to use her first name! Jane reminds Elly that she's late for the first class, using her official teacher name. Elly is apologetic and calls her Jane. Jane agrees that's her name and she will be the Acting Principal for the time being. Elly brings up Jane's tutoring of Kirsha and mentions the stamps.
JANE: There is far too much pressure on any of the staff to be running late or to be making small talk. (Elly goes to head off.) I've no idea how Mrs Kennedy ran the school Miss Conway but be very clear on this. Unprofessional behaviour will not be tolerated. (Elly looks stunned.)
