Erinsborough Hospital
In Cassius's room, Aaron is lost for words as to how to respond to David - so simply rushes past him. He walks out of the hospital, but David follows him, demanding to know why he was in the room.
AARON: I needed to see him.
DAVID: Why?!
AARON: Look, I didn't plan it or anything. I... I couldn't stop myself.
DAVID What if someone else had come in? Imagine what they would've thought! They would've thought you were doing something... awful! What were you going to do?
Aaron gets upset.
AARON: I had to! I had to...
DAVID: Had to what?
But Aaron breaks down in tears, and David sits him down to comfort him.
No 22
Bea is tearing strips off Ned for his admission that it was his fault Cassius got beaten up. Piper comes downstairs, and Ned says she needs to hear this too.
NED: Seeing you upset over Cassius - it made my blood boil. I made a mistake.
PIPER: What did you do?
NED: I was on the phone to an old mate of mine. It was a passing comment; I must've sounded angry, I... He wanted to help. He arranged the attack on Cassius with a mate of his on the inside.
PIPER: What the hell?!
NED: No, Pip, you've got to understand - this is not what I wanted, at all.
BEA: Why would you ask someone something like that?
NED: I wasn't thinking, okay? Look, Pip, I hate the guy, but I didn't want him hurt.
PIPER: You're the reason that Tyler was questioned!
NED: Yes, but the police will understand he had nothing to do with it.
PIPER: No, but Ned - I questioned him! I doubted him! Why didn't you just tell me?!
Ned says he didn't realise, but Piper is already storming off to find Tyler.
Ramsay Street
Piper runs up the drive of No 24, and finds Mark on the phone, thanking someone for the 'huge news' they've told him. Piper asks Mark if Tyler's home, but Mark explains he ran off after they tried to force him through the wedding re-enactment! However, Mark has good news - that was the police on the phone, and Tyler is no longer a person of interest as regards Cassius's beating.
MARK: There's no evidence showing that he was in contact with anyone, so they're thinking that it was a random attack.
Piper is relieved. Mark says things can go back to normal now, but Piper doesn't look so sure...
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron is still talking to David outside.
AARON: I don't know why I went into the room. I just - I saw the guard step away, and... it was instinct. Look, I didn't have a plan or anything. Maybe I thought if I saw Cassius in pain, like we've all been, there might've been some kind of justice. The thing was, he wasn't in pain. He was just lying there, unconscious. And then this thought popped into my head, that was like, how easy it would be to just... pull the tube.
DAVID: Hurting him wouldn't change anything. You'd just end up in jail too. And what would I do without you?
No 22
Leo is ironing when Terese comes in, but he assures her it's only his own clothes - hers are still crumpled in a pile! Terese offers to use her leverage with the other hotel investors to fight for Leo's job - he was clearly unfairly dismissed, and he has rights. But Leo isn't keen to rock the boat further with Paul, saying it will just give him more ammunition to come after Terese.
Terese admits she's worried Paul is planning something else against them. Leo tells her just to concentrate on herself; he has enough to get by on until the backpackers' reopens.
Terese goes into the kitchen and finds Ned at the table, looking glum. He explains he screwed up by telling his old gang mate about Cassius, who took it as an invitation to have him beaten up. Terese is not best pleased; she reminds Ned that she let him into her home on the condition that his past stayed at the door. Ned insists it was an accident; he didn't mean for it to happen.
TERESE: Really?! So you never imagined talking to an old gang mate about somebody that upset you would lead to trouble? Come on, Ned - you're smarter than that.
Ned offers to pack his things and move out. But Terese says that won't be necessary - there's no point this affecting more lives than it has already. Terese tries to call Piper, but she rejects the call.
Fitzgerald Motors
Tyler is getting nostalgic at the garage, recalling old times. A contrite Piper turns up.
PIPER: I know it wasn't you who ordered the attack on Cassius. I should never have doubted you.
TYLER: ... But you did.
She touches his hand.
PIPER: Tyler, I'm sorry. I should've known that no matter what you've been through, you're still the same person. You're still the beautiful, big-hearted man that I fell in love with.
They hold hands, and get closer, a Moment™ apparently developing. They eventually kiss on the lips - but it doesn't last. Tyler can't do this right now, and walks away, leaving Piper upset.
Lassiter's
Chloe and Pierce are having flirty banter in reception, thinly disguised as business talk, as they arrange their next hook-up. Paul comes out of the lift, clocks Chloe and Pierce talking at reception, and then walks to the exit, where he finds Terese and Leo approaching. He exchanges some perfunctory business words with Terese, then leaves, without acknowledging Leo.
Nonetheless, Leo's surprised that Paul was so professional towards Terese. Chloe comes to join them, and suggests Paul might be 'done playing the bad guy'. Obviously, she hasn't been on the show long enough yet!
TERESE: Oh, no - he'll never be done doing that!
Sure enough, she spies Paul chatting up Pierce through the window, and shaking his hand - and tells Leo (Chloe having left) that it's 'never over till it's over' with Paul.
The Waterhole
Bea is chatting to Elly about Ned and his inadvertent gang hit on Cassius. Bea admits she's worried about Ned's history. Elly initially goes in to bat for Ned, saying all that is behind him. Nonetheless, she admits that it has caused trouble in the past - explaining how Ned was involved with a married woman (Regan), leading to her husband (Jacka) causing a whole lot of hot air balloon carnage.
BEA: Why haven't you told me about this before?
ELLY: Because Ned did nothing wrong. He wasn't the one to blame. Bea, he is a really great guy. He's loyal, and kind, and he would do anything to protect the people he loves. But you have to take the good with the bad - Ned has a dark past, and you need to figure out if you want that in your life.
Lassiter's
Chloe comes into Terese's office, announcing she's heading off for a 'meeting' with Pierce.
CHLOE: You know what he's like. I might be tied up for a bit!
Before Chloe goes, Terese asks her if she's noticed Pierce and Paul interacting at all. Chloe says they've hardly spoken - she's Pierce's main contact. Terese admits she saw them shaking hands before, and asks Chloe why they could have been doing that.
CHLOE: Congratulating each other on how little money they've left for the rest of us?
TERESE: Hmm. I just don't trust Paul's intentions at the moment. I don't know - I've got a strange feeling about this.
Chloe offers to do some digging, to try and find out what they were talking about. As she leaves, Piper comes in, looking very upset. Terese asks how things went with Tyler; Piper just shakes her head and cries. Terese gives her a hug.
PIPER: I apologised, but... it wasn't enough.
TERESE: Listen, this is so complicated.
No 24
As Terese continues to talk, we cut to images of Tyler entering No 24, his famous green chair in the foreground.
TERESE (voiceover): You've both been hurt so much by what Cassius has done, it's going to take a while to rebuild.
Tyler sits in the chair in slow-motion, looking pensive.
Lassiter's
Piper tearfully tells Terese she stuffed up by doubting Tyler, and feels horrible about it.
PIPER: I wish I could just take it all back. I wish I could fix it.
Terese hugs her again. Piper cries on her shoulder.
No 24
We cut back to Tyler in the chair, tears running down his cheeks too...
Lassiter's
Meanwhile, Pierce and Chloe are in bed together, post-TITTNL™. Chloe laments the fact that she has to get back to work. Pierce gets a phone call about some quarterly projections, and while he's talking, Chloe notices a document lying on top of his briefcase on the other side of the room.
She cranes her neck furtively to take a look at it while he's busy talking; she's close enough to see the Lassiter's logo on the top of the document...
Erinsborough Greenway (or, the Botanical Gardens™)
Piper is sitting on a bench looking glum. She gets a text from Tyler, saying 'I'm at home - I need to talk to you', so rushes off.
No 24
Piper comes in to find Tyler still sitting in the chair. They smile at each other, and she comes to sit with him.
TYLER: I've made a decision.
PIPER: ... And?
He holds her hand.
TYLER: I love you so much. You know, I always will.
PIPER: I love you too.
TYLER: But too much has happened. You don't see me the same way anymore. You don't. And that's okay. That's okay, because I'm not the same. I want to rebuild my life. You know, I wish I could do that here with you. But I can't.
PIPER: Where are you going to go?
TYLER: Go back to Adelaide, stay with Mum. Look for work. Hopefully find a place of my own eventually. I need to start again - properly.
Piper is crying.
PIPER: Yeah. I think that's... the right choice. I think it's a good idea.
Tyler nods, his lip trembling.
PIPER: I really wanted things to go back to the way they were. I wanted that so much.
TYLER: So did I.
PIPER: I'm sorry.
TYLER: I'm sorry too.
They hug emotionally.
The Waterhole
David is with Aaron at a table. Aaron has had a meal, but still looks pretty traumatised.
AARON: I don't know what's wrong with me. I've just got this rage inside. It kind of scares me.
DAVID: Don't worry. I've got you. I'll keep you in check. Just make sure you always tell me what's going on.
Mark and Elly sit down to join them. Mark is just finishing a phone conversation, and explains to all of them that it was Tyler - he's leaving Erinsborough. Aaron is shocked.
Lassiter's
Chloe comes in to see Terese. She explains she saw a fat contract in Pierce's suite, with the Lassiter's logo on it - and it wasn't the events contract he's already signed with them. Terese concludes it must be something to do with Paul; he must be partnering with Pierce in some way as a means of getting back at her and Leo.
CHLOE: Tell me what you need. You've always had my back; I've got yours.
TERESE: Okay. I need you to wrangle another meeting. Try and get a copy of that contract.
Chloe thinks it will be tough, but Terese says she'll figure it out. Chloe gets a text, and says she has to go - something's happened with Tyler.
No 24
Tyler has his bags packed, and Mark, Chloe, Aaron and Piper are gathered around. Mark is going to take him to the airport; Tyler hugs Chloe and Aaron, and then points to the green chair.
TYLER: Tell me you're gonna throw that thing out - it's hideous!
MARK: You have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words.
Piper is watching all this sadly, and Tyler goes over to her. They hold hands.
TYLER: I don't need to tell you this, but you're gonna have an amazing life. Just make sure you make the most of it, yeah?
PiPER: Okay.
They hug again, then smile at one another as Piper wipes away more tears. Tyler leaves, smiling.
Erinsborough Greenway (or, the Botanical Gardens™)
Ned finds Bea out walking in the dark, as she is wont. He notes that she's been ignoring his calls, and surmises that his involvement in Cassius's beating has really affected her. Bea doesn't disagree.
NED: It's because you're a good person.
BEA: Look, I've spent all afternoon thinking about this. You're saying you didn't mean for Cassius to get hurt, and I believe that.
NED: But still, it happened because of me.
BEA: It happened because of your past. Look, you know what I've been through more than anyone. You know my issues.
NED: Yeah, I do.
BEA: And moving forwards means staying away from people who might hurt me.
NED: I would never hurt you.
BEA: Not deliberately. Ned - I really like you. And I wish this could work. But I can't be with someone with all these criminal connections. I can't cope with the risk. Maybe nothing would happen, but it's enough that it might.
NED: Okay. You've gotta put yourself first.
BEA: Yeah. For once, I do. Bye, Ned.
She walks away, leaving Ned looking forlorn.
No 22
Terese goes to comfort Piper about Tyler's departure, but Piper says she's okay.
PIPER: I've broken down too many times. I don't have the energy to do it again! (...) I think it's a good idea for Tyler to start a new life. I mean, I want him to have the absolute best shot at things (...) It still hurts, though. But I mean, Tyler was right. Even if we did try things again properly, it was never gonna be the same. We've changed too much - everything has.
Terese decides this calls for takeaway, and they hug. There's a knock at the door - it's David. He explains that Cassius has come out of sedation.
DAVID: He asked me to let you know that, when you're ready, he'd like to see you.
Piper looks worried.
Lassiter's
Chloe lets herself into Pierce's suite, and sneaks over to look at the contract she saw earlier. She starts taking photos of it with her phone - but Pierce comes in and catches her in the act.
PIERCE: What are you doing?
