Number 24
It is the morning of the wedding and Mark is trying to calm Aaron down as he thinks the day is already heading for a disaster - no celebrant and his back is still sore. "Bubbles fix everything," Chloe tries to calm him down with, while handing him a glass of bubbles and the bad news that she still can't find a celebrant. At least Fay has managed to make it and laughs off Chloe immediately asking about her health!
FAY: I can't believe my beautiful boy is getting married.
She passes on the news that Tyler hates that he can't be there for his brother's big day, although she's promised to bring him lots of photos of the day. To try and get back on the happy vibes, Chloe distributes the other glasses of bubbles and proposes a toast to "Aaron and David."
Penthouse suite
And Paul is making a similar toast too at his place. Amy passes on Jimmy's wishes to his uncle and his regrets at not being there, something Paul is relieved not to be also making. David tells his dad about their celebrant woes, and rejects his offer of intervening, plus Amy is confident Chloe will find someone.
Leo returns from visiting reception with a card from Kim for David and he reads it out to everyone.
DAVID: Dear David. Please know how much I love you even if I'm not good at showing it. And I believe that if Hibaachan had lived, to see how happy Aaron makes you, she'd be proud of you as well.
"She's right," Leo tells his brother, but he isn't sure, and adds that the most important thing is that he likes who he is now.
DAVID: I love my life. I have everyone I need.
Number 28
Elly is sorry to hear about the wasted trip Karl and Susan had to Echuca. Karl is somewhat resolute knowing that he has a half-sister and was so close to finding her - the knowledge that she is out there is enough.
Susan declares that she has finished her wedding speech and Karl pronounces that the boys are lucky she is their celebrant... yet from the earlier scenes they are acting like she is no longer their celebrant.
The Waterhole
Gary isn't too impressed at some woman giving him cooking tips as he sets up the dessert for later (she wasn't too impressed at the flower arrangement either!)
Chloe is still having no luck getting a celebrant as she and Aaron arrive at the bar (Aaron passed onto Gary the decoration for the top of the cake). She even volunteers to act as the celebrant until Aaron points out she isn't "an officiant!" and doesn't want today to be "a show" followed by a date at some point at the registry office.
CHLOE: I understand, but I think we're out of options.
Terese's office
Despite her initial thinking, Leo calls by to see Terese on official hotel business - there have been complaints about the occupants (a group) in one of the rooms. She promises to deal with it and before he leaves, tells him that he does "look terrific" and that he "will do your brother proud today." "That means a lot," he replies before heading off.
Ramsay Street
Fay wants to go have a word with Susan, but Mark vetoes that as apparently Chloe has things sorted. Eventually Aaron appears and before they get into the waiting limo, they take a family selfie for Tyler.
MARK: Okay, let's get you hitched shall we!
However, as Aaron goes to get into the limo, he slips and hurts his back even more and is immediately fearing how he is going to be able to walk down the aisle!
The Pavilion
Paul tries to calm down a now very nervous groom especially as the celebrant issue has been resolved. Just at that, Susan and Karl arrive, and David is very much surprised to see her as she gushes all over how great he looks.
It turns out that Aaron mis-understood Susan's text - she was only cancelling their meeting, not being the officiant at the wedding, and the follow up text, confirming that she was doing the wedding, didn't go through! David tells her of the ensued panic trying to get hold of a replacement however Susan seems to think that the fact she is now here, resolves her of the panic she put them through!
Paul suggests now would be the best time for Aaron to break the news and he does that - telling her that they've made other arrangements. "What do you mean?" Susan asks sounding very confused. David informs her that Chloe and Aaron found someone in The Waterhole that was a celebrant, who offered to step in.
The quartet's chat is interrupted by a strange noise from behind them - it's the woman from The Waterhole earlier who is either warming up her voice or strangling a cat... the sound is very similar!
DAVID: She calls herself The Wedding Whisperer.
PAUL: Mmm, meant to be incredible!
Susan thinks having a word with the new celebrant will get her reinstated and goes over to talk to her. "Too late, the gigs mine," Susan is bluntly told as David tries to suggest that Susan could go back to being their celebrant.
PAUL: This is awkward!
That would be the understatement of the year! Susan, backed up by Karl, literally pleads to be reinstated!
CELEBRANT: What can I say? Tough titties! Now, I have a wedding to perform and I am primed and raring to go!
She gives Susan a look of absolute disgust before she goes back to warming up her voice leaving the RSRs dumbfounded!
DAVID: I'm sure we can work sort something out???
(Later)
The celebrant is now acting like an usher, showing the random extras where to sit! Susan is still mumping by the time she and Karl take their seats although Karl does point out that she'll now be able to enjoy the ceremony.
"You're about to get married bro," Leo tells David upon hearing that Aaron is on his way. After a big brotherly hug, Leo adds that he is so "bloody happy for you," before going to sit next to Elly. She can see he is emotional and dishes out the tissues! And Xanthe approves of the twin aisles where both grooms will be walked down with their parents.
As the strains of Kylie and Jason's 'Especially for you' begins (or Your love walks with me in Australia), David is shocked to see Aaron arrive in a wheelchair to go down his aisle. The lad mouths that he is okay to a very concerned David, before deciding he isn't going to be pushed down the aisle. Gingerly, with the aid of his family, he gets up out of the wheelchair before standing proud and walking down the aisle next to Fay, with Mark and Chloe following behind them. Simultaneously down the other aisle, Paul escorts David while the congregation blow bubbles into the air.
CELEBRANT: Friends, Erinsburrians, countrymen, lend me your ears... and I promise to give them back!
Everyone laughs before she reminds everyone that they are here today to "honour the love between Aaron and David" although she is actually pointing to the wrong one when she said their names!
She manages to get a dig in at Susan no longer doing the ceremony before reading the speech that was originally going to be said by her.
CELEBRANT: Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking together in the same direction.
That is about as much as she reads of Susan's original speech before declaring that it "doesn't rhyme!" Eventually, too much amusement by everyone, other than the wedding party, she changes Susan's speech!
CELEBRANT: Love can be like a suit of armour or like a safe haven, it's a kind of forgiveness when you've been misbehaving'!
SUSAN: (to Karl) I didn't write that line, what is she doing?
She really does not like what Susan wrote and only reads out what she wants with a bit of re-editing to what Susan originally wrote!
CELEBRANT: If life is like a gushing wound, then love's a tourniquet!
"I didn't write that," Susan mouths to the boys.
CELEBRANT: Love is a fierce weapon and a peaceful prayer... especially for two blokes with such amazing hair! When our lives are blessed by love, every one of us is equal... and let's hope this marriage lasts because none of us wants a sequel!
The boys are now laughing but Susan (and Karl) are literally cringing in their seats! Eventually we come to the vows.
AARON: I Aaron James Brennan choose to share my life with you, David Yoshi Tanaka. I promise to trust you with all my secrets... even bad ones... especially the bad ones! I promise to make you smile when times are tough, even if that means dancing around in a dumb costume... especially if that means dancing around in a dumb costume.
DAVID: And I promise to support you... always. And to turn to you when I need support. And I promise your secrets are safe with me... and so is your heart. I will honour, value and love you for all my days.
As 'Say hello' continues, Mark comes forward with the ring which Aaron eventually places onto the correct finger of David. Leo then steps forward with the other ring, which eventually David forces over Aaron's knuckle to get it on his finger.
CELEBRANT: The blessings love brings are always the same no matter who we are. After so many years of inequality, change has finally come and partnerships like Aaron's and David's can be celebrated as legal unions as they always should have been. And on that note, it is my very great pleasure to pronounce you married.
She then yells to the crowd for them to give her an 'Amen' which they do as well as clapping the newlyweds who then share a kiss with each other.
(Later)
Most of the guests have now departed, so David finally gets to know why Aaron is in a wheelchair. David wants to check Aaron's injuries; however, he's assured that won't be necessary as the pain meds are already working... but Aaron wants a slightly different private consultation with "Dr Booboo!"
Amy, Leo and Chloe watch them from afar and Amy remarks that seeing them so happy together makes you "want to go and find someone special." Leo gives a somewhat nonchalant reply before Paul comes over to order him back to the hotel - the guests he told Terese about earlier have trashed the room and he's to meet her and the police about it despite his protestations.
Meanwhile, Susan isn't happy at all at 'The Wedding Whisperer' as she and Karl make their way towards the lake (where the photos are taking place). Its not her day either, she's stepped into some dog poo and wonders if the day can get any worse! That would be yes, as the front grill of the car she was leaning on to remove the doggy poo suddenly breaks off! And guess whose car it belongs to... the celebrant's! Karl offers to cover the costs and hands over a business card. "You tried to message me," she comments after reading his name on the card.
CELBRANT: I'm Jemima Davies-Smyth. I'm your sister!
Cue nervous smiles and laughter between the newly found siblings while Susan is probably thinking, yes, this day can get worse!
Lassiters Lake
Paul suggests that the extended family take some photographs while waiting on the Leo and the official photographer, so Mark heads off to find David. Chloe gives Aaron some more painkillers as Paul comes over and offers his services to aid his recover, however Aaron reassures him that David will take good care of him.
AARON: Thanks Paul.
PAUL: Yeah, well you can call me dad now.
Thankfully after a few seconds he jokes and says "only kidding" just as everyone arrives and gathers round for some photos.
CHLOE: Everyone say my brother married a cute doctor from a rich family!
Lassiters hotel
The room has been trashed by the group and the police are just leaving as Leo arrives. Terese has made a start on tidying up the room, to aid housekeeping, even though Leo suggests that she shouldn't be the one doing that.
She asks how the ceremony was and Leo replies "beautiful, silly with so much love in the air." He apologises for making it sound "corny as hell," but she is okay with the description and tells him to go be with his family. Since he is here anyway, Leo would rather make himself useful and that includes going to pick up a bottle of champagne that is lying on the bed... just as Terese reaches for it too!
And yip, the inevitable happens and they kiss and this time it isn't a dream!
Eventually they part after a heavy bout of pashing. "I shouldn't have done that," Leo says and while it looked like Terese could not get out of the room quick enough... she was actually going to close the door and lock it, so they cannot be disturbed! There is no holding them back now as clothing is hastily removed!
