- Chloe throwing a letter from a medical clinic in the bin.
- Karl advising Terese that you should be cautious of things in your genes.
- Chloe opening up the letter that was binned.
- Karl telling Chloe her test results showed a genetic abnormality.
- Terese having a wee tumble and Leo coming to her rescue.
- Paul after Leo's help with a surprise.
- Piper enlightening her mum about Paul.
Terese and Piper make their displeasure at Paul known in very strong terms!! He tries to justify Leo's actions as doing research for him as he is a busy man but reaffirms that his feelings for her are real and doesn't see at all the angle both Piper and Terese are coming at him with.
TERESE: You move people around like pieces on your own personal chessboard. Well I'm not going to be played anymore.
PAUL: Fine, I'll go.
TERESE: Good! Get out of my sight!
Mark and Aaron recover from the shock of seeing Chloe being domestic to fill her in on the new venue for the wedding – the pavilion. Aaron politely declines her offer of decorating it so its ready for a wedding and instead finds himself (along with Mark) being sweettalked by Chloe into accompanying her to the boat as she's got to take photos of it for work and doesn't want to go alone.
“He's bad for you remember,” Piper points out to her mum as they chat about what Paul has done as they head out to the courtyard. Terese is annoyed that she'd forgotten how bad Paul could be!
PIPER: You said it mum, small doses of Paul are best, so you've obviously just overdosed lately.
TERESE: Piper, he keeps putting himself in my orbit.
Piper encourages her mum to be strong and to put Paul back into his box and if he starts acting up, she should trust her instincts and not give him the benefit of the doubt! Terese plans on going “cold turkey” and giving Paul up.
“You're an idiot,” Amy tells her dad while David is surprised at not knowing things were heating up between them again but does side with his dad when he comments that he doesn't think Paul has been dishonest. Leo finally speaks to say he is sorry it backfired and wonders if Terese is blaming him - Paul isn't sure but thinks it best if he prepares “for the onslaught.” Paul acknowledges that he's blown his chances, at least for the forceable future, with Terese.
Well we should be at the marina but its greenscreen time again as the Brennan siblings pretend that they are actually there! Chloe is happy to be spending the day on the (fake) boat, but Aaron wishes he was on dry land as he is feeling queasy and promptly throws up over the back of the (fake) boat!
Paul can tell from Amy's tone when she joins him on the balcony that he isn't going to like this conversation – the sympathetic talk followed by a lecture!
AMY: That's not true… I don't lecture!
Her advice is for Paul to give up on Terese as the pair aren't compatible, but he is so sure that he is the man Terese wants.
PAUL: The attraction is certainly there and the desire to make it work but I just can't seem to convince her.
AMY: But you'll never be able to force it. And I know you, as soon as you're over this mood, you'll start concocting some sort of power play over Terese to make yourself feel better and it won't work.
Her suggestion is to put the energy into something else instead like focusing on the family.
AMY: So focus on us and move on from Terese for good.
David is putting his career ahead of his love life by staying home to study for his surgical exams rather than going to tend after the poorly Aaron on the boat. Despite it being the first Paul knew of it, he is pleased at what David has chosen even if there is a hard road ahead for him to get into this specialty.
Terese is still annoyed at Paul as she rants off to her family (and Cassius). Ned drops himself in it by admitting he knew what Leo was doing and finds support from Cassius much to Piper's displeasure. Just at that, Leo goes to exit the bar having left the office and Terese can't move quick enough from her table to confront him! Thankfully Piper manages to restrain her, even though she thinks that he “deserved it.”
“He's no better than Paul,” Terese comments and Cassius asks what the difference given she and Xanthe colluded to get him to date Piper. “That's an entirely different thing,” apparently according to Terese although she is somewhat confused over how Leo managed to discover what he liked and didn't like.
NED: Being angry at Paul for pretending that the Josh video was his idea but Leo came up with something that means a lot to you, so what's there to be angry about?
Aaron still isn't feeling better and Mark thinks it ironic that Russell was going to spend his retirement on a boat! Turns out Aaron isn't spewing because of the water but because he's been taking expired anti- sickness pills Chloe had in her bag! The trio start talking about what they did/didn't inherit from Russell, in particular his heart condition, although Chloe would rather the conversation changed!
Terese sneaks into her office and after Leo finishes his call, he immediately apologises to her. “Look, its Paul who betrayed me not you,” she acknowledges but Leo admits that it was all his idea and that he shouldn't have done it. “Nobody's done anything that kind for me in a very long time,” she confesses after telling him how good she felt watching the video of Josh. Leo wishes that he knew Josh after making the video and then tries to downplay his involvement in all the other ‘nice' things.
TERESE: I know it seems trivial, but just noticing those small things just shows that you're really thoughtful.
Before leaving, she makes it clear though that she is angry with Paul and not him.
Paul is trying to suss Karl out over how he can financially secure a spot for David at the hospital, but the good doctor sees right through what Paul is up to. “I don't want him favoured in any way,” Paul does at least get into the conversation, he has to get there on his own merit, Paul is simply providing another opportunity for David. Karl suggests that he goes to talk to Clive.
Paul has set the chain in motion for his plan, but he's forgot to actually talk to the one person it concerns – David, who doesn't think its fair on the other residents. “I knew you'd be noble about it,” Paul replies before adding that he's arranged it, so anyone can apply, and he will have no input on who is chosen… although seems rather confident that David will be the one chosen!
Paul heads off and David tells Amy that he really isn't comfortable at this ‘nepotism' plan of Paul's although Amy points out that if others benefit too, it can't be called nepotism.
AMY: Dad is at his best when he is in control. You should let him have this and get ahead in your career at the same time.
The trio open up to each other about their true feelings for Russell and Mark wonders if they should do something for the first anniversary of his death. “We don't owe him anything, he avoided us most of our lives,” is Aaron's take and Chloe backs him up and explains that's why she went travelling, to avoid family.
MARK: You're not alone now.
In return, she thanks them for letting her back into their lives, to help her be a better person.
Paul hands out the drinks to his kids before toasting David on his new career choice. Leo is all melancholy too thinking about Terese (complete with flashbacks).
At some point as the song plays, we've jumped ahead by a few hours and it is just Leo who is up when Terese arrives. She isn't here to see Paul though, she wanted to speak to him again.
LEO: I figured this would probably happen. Your first instinct was to thank me and well now you realise you blame me.
TERESE: My first instinct was to be angry, so then when I thanked you it was because I'd worked through it. You see the thing is I can't stop thinking about what you've done for me. I always thought you were like your father – scoring points, after number one, always thinking of yourself.
LEO: I have my faults.
TERESE: But you're a better man than Paul.
LEO: You think so?
TERESE: You're the type of man that I want in my life and so I wanted to thank you for the way that you make me feel.
As she's spoken, Terese has slowly walked towards Leo and the inevitable is about to happen… yip Leo wakes up!
The brothers arrive home, and Aaron admits that he had a good time despite throwing his guts up! “I thought it was good hanging out with Chloe,” Aaron adds, to which Mark readily agrees perhaps because she seemed more open compared to previously. Both are happy she is back in their lives.
Chloe comes to the hospital to see Karl after he left a message for her. He's heard back about the results of the tests from Los Feliz and they've concerned him.
KARL: There's no easy way to say this. You've tested positive for the Huntington's gene.
CHLOE: What's that?
KARL: It causes a neurological disease. Its past from parent to child, it's a genetic disorder.
She wonders if that's what Russell had at the end, but Karl isn't sure, although concedes that it might have be possible. “Lucky we caught it early then!” she remarks and wants to know what her treatment will be.
KARL: Medication is certainly something we can discuss but Chloe, this is a severe degenerate disorder. It will considerably reduce your life expectancy. And there is no cure.
