There's a change to the opening titles today following the departure of Tyler (Travis Burns) - the previous shot of all three Brennan brothers is replaced of a similar one with just Aaron and Mark.
We are still in Izzy's hotel room, and she watches as Karl and Susan quietly discuss what she has proposed.
SUSAN: Just to get my head around this, Karl - you haven't already laughed this revolting idea all the way back to London?
KARL: Darling, honestly, I'm still digesting it.
SUSAN: The fact that you need to digest it at all makes me sick to the stomach! And this is how I find out about it?
Karl claims he was only here to get clarification from Izzy, and then he was going to tell Susan straight away. Izzy backs him up on this.
SUSAN: And why on earth would you want another child? You barely parent Holly as it is!
IZZY: You're in shock - I would be too.
SUSAN: Don't patronise me! (...) And why Karl? You could have a baby with anyone!
IZZY: Is it so hard to believe that I'd like my children to share the same father?
SUSAN: The same father! That would be my husband!
IZZY: Obviously, I'd love you to be on board too.
SUSAN: Oh, my god. Isabelle, do you hear the rubbish that comes out of your mouth?
KARL: Susan, please!
SUSAN: Don't you dare defend her!
KARL: I'm not defending anything. There's just a lot to talk about!
SUSAN: No, Karl, there isn't. There is nothing to talk about!
Susan storms out, followed by Karl. Izzy looks worried.
Jimmy is playing with a footie near the giant whale- tooth monument (or whatever on earth it's supposed to be). Kirsha is reading on a bench nearby. Jimmy falls over, and looks embarrassed. Kirsha tries not to laugh.
Susan storms past, with Karl following.
SUSAN: Keeping secrets - with her of all people?!
KARL: No, no - I'm not keeping secrets. I'm just trying to work out what to do.
SUSAN: Why? So you can help her?!
KARL: No, I'm not saying I'm going to do that.
SUSAN: But you're not saying no! Are you seriously considering this, after everything she's done to us?
KARL: I'm well aware of what she's done to us.
SUSAN: You said you wanted clarification; what does that mean?
KARL: Okay. I need to know if she's gonna use the hospital wing as leverage.
SUSAN: And if she is?! (...)
KARL: Well then... it would be complicated!
SUSAN: No, Karl, it wouldn't!! Your answer should be a definitive no! And the fact that it isn't means we have a very big problem!
Mark is on the phone to his mum, asking how Tyler is settling in at the new prison in Adelaide. As he finishes the call, Jack approaches; Mark is visibly not thrilled to see him. Jack says he's just heading to Paige's to finalise the details for Gabe's naming day; Mark tersely replies that Jack doesn't need his permission, and says he has somewhere to be.
Meanwhile, Toadie chats to Shane about Yashvi and her work experience, explaining why he didn't feel it was a good idea for her to have a placement with his law firm. Shane says he fully understands - which is why he's asked Aaron to give her a go at The Shed doing personal training. In fact, she's there now for her first day, he says. Toadie offers to check in on her, and Shane thanks him.
Paige is chatting to Terese about the naming day arrangements, while Jack and Gary fuss over Gabe. Terese asks how Piper is; Paige replies that she's getting there, then goes to take a call from her mum. Meanwhile, Jack explains to Terese and Gary about his idea to make a time capsule for Gabe to mark the day, which he can retrieve when he's older.
GARY: I've got some dad jokes you can chuck in if you like. They're timeless!
TERESE: Which are better off locked away!
Gary heads off to work, and Paige rejoins them. There's been a power outage at Lauren's café in Queensland, meaning that she and Brad are likely going to miss the naming day celebrations. Jack holds Paige's hand in solidarity, and says that they can have another naming day next time Paige takes Gabe to Queensland. Jack offers to fly up and take part; Terese looks at them curiously.
Toadie has arrived to check on Yashvi, where Aaron is already at his wit's end - and Yashvi has been let loose on Elly as a personal weightlifting trainer!
YASHVI: Hold it - hold it!
ELLY: Okay, alright, alright - I'm starting to feel, like, a pain.
YASHVI: Yeah, that's how I feel in your English class. Hold it!
But Elly has had enough, and walks off.
YASHVI: Fine, be a wuss. But that's why you have average muscle mass!
Aaron and Toadie watch; apparently, Yashvi was even worse with her first two clients. Aaron suggests Yashvi call it a day, and she's more than ready to leave!
Mark is grabbing a coffee, but turns around and bumps straight into Izzy. Chemistry crackles as they each apologise to the other - and Mark goes on his way. Izzy then joins Karl at a table; he's worried, as Susan is very angry about her proposal.
KARL: This is a massive ask. You know that, don't you?
IZZY: Karl, come on - it's not the Dark Ages. I'm only asking you to make a donation. All within the professional bounds of a doctor's office, in case you were wondering!
KARL: Yeah. Look, I need to know; what you're asking me - is this is any way tied to your donation at the hospital?
IZZY: Well, I'm making an investment in your future. It'd be nice to think you'd be making an investment in mine!
KARL: So that's a yes?
IZZY: Don't you want Holly to have a baby brother or a sister? Someone who's as happy and healthy as she is?
KARL: What you're asking will change our families forever!
IZZY: No - we've already bonded over Holly. What difference would another child make?
KARL: If you're here in Erinsborough, we'd do this together. There'd be a big difference!
IZZY: Isn't that appealing to you at all? The chance to experience what you missed out on with Holly? You said the other day that you wanted to be a more hands- on parent.
KARL: ... Susan is my priority.
IZZY: She doesn't need to feel threatened.
KARL: Izzy, you're putting me in a very difficult position here.
IZZY: I mean, I understand that you need time to consider this. But just - think very carefully, Karl. You get what you want, and I get what I want. And everybody's happy. What could possibly be wrong with that?
Susan is raging to Elly about the fact that Karl is even considering what Izzy is proposing for the sake of the hospital wing.
ELLY: Are you sure that's all there is to it? Like, do you think maybe he wants to have another child?
SUSAN: He's never mentioned it! He's a grandfather! (...) He will do that right thing. Karl loves me. He values what we have.
ELLY: Yes, of course he loves you.
SUSAN: I just have to have faith. There's no way that he's gonna let Isabelle come between us. Not again.
Elly agrees, but Susan doesn't look like she has convinced herself.
Paige is impressed with Piper's bunting- making skills for the naming day. Paige asks how Pipes is doing; she admits she's finding it tough living in Tyler's old house, as she keeps expecting him to walk through the door. Paige promises that it will get easier. They begin talking about Mark, and how grateful Paige is that he gave her another chance - but Mark then arrives, interrupting them.
Jack turns up soon after, and he and Mark quickly get into a minor dispute over who will hang up the bunting. It turns out Jack has forgotten to bring the ladder, so then they disagree over who will go and collect it. Mark wins this one, and promises to be back in 20 minutes. Paige kisses him before he leaves, and Jack looks jealous.
Terese is staring at Helen Daniels' portrait of Mrs Mangel! Toadie arrives, and seems to share her reservations about the choice of artwork.
TERESE: Paul again! I don't know what's worse - that or Courtney's photos.
Toadie has brought Yashvi along, and asks if Terese could give her a work experience placement. A quick sales trial reveals that Yashvi is not cut out for the hospitality sector, Terese decides.
Jimmy emerges from the lift with his footie and asks Toadie if he'll play; he needs to work on his skills, he explains. Yashvi senses her chance to escape, but Toadie is determined to help her find a work experience placement, and drags her outside to hang with them.
Susan is having a flashback to 2004 (Episode 4502
), and her reaction after finding out that Izzy was pregnant with Karl's baby.
SUSAN: You walk out of our marriage after 30 years because you want to be free - and within minutes, you're telling me you're going to be a daddy again?!
In the present, Susan looks like she is struggling to stay upright, and is breathing deeply to calm herself. Elly comes in, concerned.
SUSAN: I can't go through this again. What if Karl truly does want another child with Isabelle? What if he goes through with this?!
ELLY: That's not going to happen!
SUSAN: He wants to leave his mark on the world! What better way than another child, and your name on a hospital wing?!
ELLY: He's not going to do that to you.
SUSAN: No, not on his own. But Isabelle obviously wants him back. That's why she's here. And she's gonna try and tie him to her, through another child.
ELLY: Karl loves you; you know he does.
SUSAN: I can't give him his own hospital wing. I certainly can't give him another baby! And what if that truly is tempting to him?
ELLY: You guys have built a whole life together.
SUSAN (tearful): Lives run out. If he goes through with this... I don't know what I'd do!
Mark is ordering chicken focaccias when Elly comes in. They're about to start chatting when Elly notices Izzy at a table, and goes over to tear strips off her.
ELLY: Do you have any idea how desperate you look trying to steal someone else's husband?
IZZY: Excuse me?!
ELLY: You heard me. You broke up Karl and Susan once - you're not doing it again. Not on my watch.
IZZY: The last thing I want to do is hurt their marriage. What awful things has Susan been saying about me?
ELLY: Izzy, your actions speak for themselves.
IZZY: Yeah, I want you to tell Susan that I'm happy to talk everything out. I want her input in this too.
Izzy notices Mark standing behind Elly.
IZZY: Hello - again!
Mark nods amiably in her direction, and Izzy leaves. Elly tells him that Izzy is messing with the Kennedys. Mark thought that was ancient history, but Elly reminds him that Izzy and Karl have a child - she'll always be in the picture. Her words remind him of his own situation with Paige and Jack. Elly says that's very different, but Mark doesn't look convinced...
Toadie is helping Jimmy with his footie- kicking skills, while Yashvi plays with her phone nearby. Jimmy laments about always being on the bench in the footie team.
JIMMY: And you know, there's this girl - and I don't want to seem like a useless nerd.
Yashvi overhears and jumps to a conclusion.
YASHVI: Kirsha *is* a useless nerd, you doofus. She *likes* nerds!
JIMMY: I wasn't... Whatever.
YASHVI: Relax. Just don't be a try- hard, okay? You don't have to be fake with her.
TOADIE: Yashvi's right, mate. I mean, the chances of you actually impressing anyone with your -
But before Toadie can crush Jimmy's confidence completely, Yashvi has grabbed the footie and casually kicked it high into the air, and quite some distance. Toadie and Jimmy look on in awe; and Toadie, having received a text from someone, tells Yashvi to meet him in Harold's in a little while.
Meanwhile, Mark is walking through the courtyard with Aaron; he tells him he's transferred their sister Chloe's share of the money from Russell's boat. Aaron has already put his share into the business, while Mark is thinking of doing some back yard renovations with his. Fay calls, and they go to the car so they can have a conference call with Tyler.
Karl is filling Toadie in on Izzy's plan to have another baby with him.
TOADIE: Well, I'm with Susan - the answer's got to be no!
TOADIE: Oh, Karl, come on! Susan's got to be more important than some hospital wing, doesn't she?!
KARL: Yeah, I just -
TOADIE: Karl, can you even have more kids at your age?
Karl remembers that he's recently participated in a fertility study at the hospital (as you do!), and rushes off, deep in thought. Yashvi turns up, and tells Toadie that she can't wait to tell Kirsha about Jimmy's supposed crush on her. Toadie says she can't.
TOADIE: You saw his face when he realised you knew who he was talking about! Just let her work it out for herself!
YASHVI: Fine, spoilsport!
Shane and Kirsha are sitting at a table nearby.
KIRSHA: Are you talking about me?
YASHVI: Man, she's getting really good at this lip- reading thing! (to Kirsha) As if, idiot!
Toadie tells everyone that he has the answer to Yashvi's search for a life goal - having ascertained from her single kick of the football that she's destined for the AFL Women's League! He suggests they should get her shadowing a football coach for her work experience week. Yashvi seems excited.
Everyone continues to prepare for the naming day. Mark turns up with a ladder, apologising for being longer than expected - but Jack's already fetched one from the backpackers', rendering his trip redundant! Paige kisses Mark again, and Jack looks jealous again.
While Paige and Jack sort out the bunting, Mark watches them, and asks Terese whether she thinks Paige still has feelings for Jack.
TERESE: No, she loves you. I mean, look, they do have a child together, so obviously there's gonna be a connection. But it doesn't mean anything's gonna happen.
MARK: It must remind you of Brad and Lauren's situation.
TERESE: Yeah, well - those two were inevitable. But they're not Jack and Paige.
Mark doesn't look so sure.
Susan is sitting on the couch, still looking very upset, when Karl comes in.
SUSAN: Have you spoken to her?
Izzy is on the bed, with a box of chocolates, looking at her mobile phone.
Karl tells Susan that Izzy has more or less admitted she'll withdraw the hospital donation if he doesn't agree to having a child with her - and that without the money, the wing will probably fail.
SUSAN: I see.
KARL: That hospital wing will save lives. It'll help people in ways that... I can't be responsible for it failing.
SUSAN: Is that the only reason you're considering this?
SUSAN: Do you want another child?
KARL: I never said that!
SUSAN: No, but in your mind, is it a possibility?
SUSAN: I don't believe this!
KARL: No, no, no - I'm just saying we need to talk it through.
But she gets up and walks away, despite his pleas, in shock that Karl is still considering this.
Izzy is looking at a pregnancy app on her phone, which tells her that her next ovulation is in two days. She smiles.
Karl gets a text from Clive Gibbons, saying he'll have the fertility test results in a couple of days. Susan re- emerges with bedding and dumps it on the sofa, making it silently clear that's where Karl's sleeping - before returning to the bedroom.
Paige is with Mark, but preparing to head home for bed to get some sleep before Gabe's big day tomorrow. However, Mark has something to say first.
MARK: I think we need to be honest with each other. Really honest.
MARK: Paige, I wanted to make this work. But I can't.
MARK: I know the timing's not great, but I can't go through tomorrow pretending that everything's okay when it's not.
PAIGE: I know that you're upset. And you have every right to be.
MARK: Hey, I'm not even angry anymore. I just don't want to be standing on the outside, looking in. You and Jack - you have a connection.
PAIGE: No. No, we have a connection, okay? I love you.
MARK: It's not the same. Be honest with me - you still have feelings for him, don't you?
PAIGE: Our relationship can be confusing, but it doesn't mean anything.
MARK: You can't make your heart do what your head wants - it doesn't work like that.
PAIGE: I swear to you, if you just give us another chance, we can make this work!
MARK: Paige - I wanted everything with you. But you've already got it with someone else.
