- Steph telling Jack she loves him and Jack reciprocating.
- Paige and Jack sleeping together.
- Paige and Jack agreeing to tell Mark today.
- Paige backing out of telling Mark in the aftermath of Tyler changing his plea.
- Mark wanting to make things up with Paige after being standoffish.
- Mark and Paige arriving at the glamping site and discovering Steph and Jack are there too.
Paige wants to head home as she thinks it is going to be awkward but in the other tent, Steph thinks it will be weirder if they do leave and besides, everyone is friends now!
MARK: I promise I will make this weekend special. You won't even know they are there.
The quartet agree to try and avoid each other as much as they can, beginning with a bush walk for Mark/Paige while Steph/Jack decide to go fishing.
During their bush walk, Mark reaffirms to Paige that she is exactly what he needs, and that he couldn't have got through things of late without her.
Meanwhile, at the river, Steph decides to give the fishing a break to give Jack a massage although as she does that, she finds that he is very tense.
“Just ignore them,” Mark tells Paige as she breaks off the pashing session when she hears a noise (its Jack and Steph in the pashing/capering in the other tent). Eventually the noise wins and they decide to stop coincidentally seconds before Jack and Steph stop too and its awkward.com initially before the quartet decide to play some word game.
During the game, Steph mentions that they are off to Fiji to see Charlie now Max and Phillipa have become reasonable humans. Paige is struggling with both the game and the situation, so decides to pay a visit to the bathroom. Jack manages to sneak away too (on the pretence of getting some mosquito repellent) while Mark and Steph are discussing his competitiveness and when they meet up, both moan at each other for not saying that they were coming here!
PAIGE: We can't all stay.
JACK: What choice do we have?
PAIGE: Two days and two nights of this, you and me bumping into each other, us lying to them.
JACK: If you remember, this is not how I wanted to handle it.
Meanwhile, Mark asks Steph how she thinks Tyler will cope being inside and reasons his better headspace will help him. Eventually Steph wonders what is keeping Jack and it's because he's secretly discussing with Paige how someone manages to come up with a reasonable excuse to leave! Steph decides to go looking for Jack, and of course, happens to overhear Paige and Jack talking.
PAIGE: Listen from a scale of one to ten, ten being that you and I hooked up the other night, I don't think that this is that far off.
STEPH: You what?
Commercial break later and Steph asks if it is true (yes) and Paige explains that it happened the night of Toadie's party but adds that it “was a big mistake.”
PAIGE: And it just…it just happened.
STEPH: These things don't just happen.
Paige tries to say it happened because she was confused as there was a lot going on and Jack just happened to be there at the right time. Steph wants to know why she didn't rely on Mark and Paige tries to explain it off as because they have Gabe, it can sometimes confuse matters.
PAIGE: It was a moment of confusion and it was so, so wrong.
Jack looks somewhat confused at what Paige has just said, and Steph asks if he agrees? He avoids answering that, instead apologising to Steph for hurting her. Steph quickly picks up that Mark is oblivious to what happened. Paige pleads that they keep it quiet, as it would crush him, coming on top of what happened with Tyler. “You're right, it would,” Steph concurs, and Paige literally begs her to keep the secret quiet so that it doesn't hurt Mark even more.
PAIGE: Listen, I love Mark. I love him so much, and it does not excuse what we did, but he is a good person and he's going through hell right now. Just please, please don't make it any worse.
The trio hear Mark calling out Steph's name and next we see him walking towards them. Steph and Jack appear first, and he confirms he can't find the repellent. A few seconds later Paige appears, explaining her delay was trying to get hold of Terese, and now she is worried about Gabe. Despite Mark reassuring her that Terese will be coping fine, Paige wants to head home. Mark thinks they can hang on until she at least calls them back and besides, there are more important things – Jack has to change the word he played in their word game as it isn't a real word otherwise they will be forced to call him a cheater!
MARK: No- one likes a cheater do they, Jack?!
Its Steph that breaks the impasse by saying that she “can't do this” but can't seem to tell Mark the truth, instead says that she isn't feeling well. She heads off to walk it off and Jack quickly follows her but quietly she tells him to stay away from her.
Mark comes across where Steph is sitting as he is collecting some stones. He asks if she is okay and she replies “not really” and Jack is off doing his own thing when Mark asks where he is. She asks him about the stones and before he does, asks, “if you can keep a secret.” “When I'm forced to,” is Steph's diplomatic reply and Mark explains the reason why he doesn't want to go home – he is planning on proposing!
STEPH: As in marriage?
MARK: Yes, I love Paige and I know it's sudden but life's short and I don't want to waste another minute.
He is about to explain about the stones when it dawns on him that he is being really tactless and asks her to forget when he was talking about before quickly walking away.
Meanwhile back at the main site, Paige is in a quandary because Mark doesn't want to leave and suggests that Jack talks to Steph and persuade them to leave. Jack points out that she can't even look at him, so is told to tell her how sorry he is to try and salvage things. Before he can reply, Mark arrives back and suggests to Jack that he might want to go and check on Steph.
MARK: Is it just me or do you think they're fighting?
PAIGE: Did Steph say something?
Mark replies “no” but just wondered about everything being fine one minute and not the next. He changes topic though by telling her that he has spoken to Terese and everything is fine.
The pair then head off for a walk but barely take a few steps before he stops and asks her to close her eyes. “No peeking,” he tells her before leading her off again but for a few more. He tells her he's got something to say and for her not to interrupt him!
MARK: Paige, you and I have been through a lot. Not all good times but even the bad times have made us stronger. Which means we can get through anything. Would you agree?
PAIGE: I hope so.
Mark tells her to open her eyes and on the ground, using the stones he has gathered is ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?'
MARK: I know that we've been here before, but things are different, I'm different. Paige I love you. Will you be my wife?
Mark then shows her a diamond ring, but she takes one look at the ring and runs away.
Steph finds Jack sitting waiting in their tent and asks if they can talk. Sitting at the table, Jack sincerely tells her that he is sorry, but she wants to know what he is sorry for.
JACK: It was wrong for me to be with Paige behind your back.
JACK: I'm trying to be honest here.
STEPH: Are you Jack? ‘Cos all I'm hearing is that you're sorry for deceiving me. You're not actually sorry for being with her.
She then says that she almost believed the whole load of excuses Paige gave. Jack says that Paige does love Mark and Steph comments on the look he had on his face when Paige said it too.
STEPH: I know that look Jack, its jealousy. You know I had this feeling, this feeling after Christmas that something had changed but I told myself that I was being paranoid.
Jack tries to rationalise it by saying that Gabe going missing was huge for them. Steph acknowledges that but thinks he owed it to her to say something if old feelings were stirring.
JACK: I didn't know okay. I wanted us to work.
STEPH: I didn't want this relationship, it had trouble written all over it, but you wouldn't give up, you made me believe that you were in it for the long haul.
JACK: I know.
STEPH: That's not going to happen because you're in love with Paige.
Their chat is interrupted when Mark asks if they've seen Paige (no) and he then asks them to help look for her.
The aptly named ‘Running days' plays while the trio hunt for Paige and of course Jack comes across the ‘marry me' stones and walks right over them!
Jack eventually finds her down by the river – she slipped and has gone over her ankle. He offers to carry her back, but she wants to stay put to try and get her head together. Jack brings up what he saw and concludes she's said no.
PAIGE: I didn't say anything.
She asks if he's spoken to Steph to say how sorry he is? “I told her that I was sorry for hurting her,” he replies but adds that Steph “saw through the rest.”
PAIGE: What do you mean the rest?
JACK: How I really feel. I'm still in love with you.
JACK: And if there was a chance that we could be together I'd take that because I want you Paige. I think I always have. I want you, me and Gabe to be a family.
Mark doesn't find Paige but instead finds Steph. He is worried that he has scared Paige off by proposing and asks for Steph's thoughts on the matter.
STEPH: Just look after your heart okay.
Paige wants to know why Jack is doing this to her now and he thinks that they owe it to themselves, to Gabe, to grab it if there is a chance they could be together.
PAIGE: I love Mark. I do.
JACK: He can't give you what I can, what we already have, a family – you, me, Gabe. Look me in the eyes and tell me there's a part of you that doesn't want that?
Their chat is interrupted when Mark comes across them. He is very relieved to have found Paige, but then very concerned when he hears what she has done to her ankle. Jack is sent off to get the first aid kit from his car and Mark can't but apologise for is lousy timing regarding the proposal.
PAIGE: I want to marry you.
MARK: You do?!
PAIGE: I do. But you might not want to marry me after I tell you what I've done.
Jack makes his way towards Mark's car just as Steph is getting ready to take off on her bike.
JACK: Oi, Steph wait.
STEPH: We're done Jack.
She then pulls down the visor and pulls away.
Back at the river, Paige has obviously told Mark as he wants to know how long it's been going on for. “It was only one night,” she replies. He is obviously struggling to think it was only the once and asks how it happened from being with him at Toadie's party to being in bed with Jack. Tearfully Paige puts it down to being “a really bad call.”
MARK: A bad call?! A bad call is having one too many drinks. A bad call is accidentally insulting someone. But purposefully seeking out your ex doesn't just happen, not without something leading up to it.
PAIGE: I hadn't heard from you for ages – I went to Adelaide, you weren't there. I was lonely, it was a moment of weakness.
PAIGE: I don't know. I don't know, I… Sharing a child with someone, almost losing him it brings up feelings. It's confusing, I mean surely you understand that?
MARK: If Steph and I weren't in the way, would you be with Jack?
PAIGE: No, I swear.
MARK: Does Jack agree?
PAIGE: I can't speak for him but please Mark, I know that we can overcome this. You said this before, we can get through anything and sometimes this stuff can make us stronger.
Mark shakes his head at what she's just said.
PAIGE: I want to marry you. I want to wear that ring and I want to be your wife. If you believe anything that I'm saying right now, then please just believe that.
Mark takes the ring out of his pocket and throws it into the water before telling Paige that she can make her own way home as he walks away!
Luckily, her knight in shining armour has returned with the first aid kit… and hopefully a tissue!
