Lassiters hotel
"Just how the hell are you out?" Paul asks Nick but its Terese who explains that his hearing was brought forward. He isn't listening though and taunts Nick that once he speaks to the parole board he will be back inside. "You do that, Paul, and it's Terese who'll suffer," Gary tells him, but Paul still isn't being won over, sarcastically remarking if he, "came up with a cure for cancer while he was locked up, did he?"
Terese asks that the men calm down, especially since it's happening on the doorstep of her work, but she'd have been to have saved her breath because Paul isn't listening one bit.
GARY: Let it go.
PAUL: No, I will not let it go, because he's low-life scum! He's an opportunist and you know what? You're gonna look like a fool at the end of all of this.
What does cause Paul to stop is when Terese faints. Paul is physically manhandled by his sons to get him away from assisting Terese, although David then hands him off to Leo so he can treat Terese.
Number 22
Paige is forced to turn down spending the afternoon with Mark because she is trying to re-arrange Terese's schedule after she fainted. Mark then volunteers to babysit Gabe when he is not sure that Steph will be spending time with him (and Jack).
Terese's office
Terese reassures her daughter that she is okay when she arrives in the office. David puts the fainting down to fatigue but Nick wonders if she is anaemic too (side effect of some chemo treatment) and plans on reviewing her treatment plan (he can advise not treat). "It might be an idea to have your oncologist present," David subtly suggests but turns out that she is not available and Gary does not want them to wait. Terese thanks David for his assistance but adds that, "I think we'll be fine from here."
The Flametree restaurant
Despite not getting enough rest (Clancy barking); Steph is busy setting up the restaurant. Jack suggests they get away, but she can't get away from work and suggests he spends time with Gabe instead. That would be his plan but Mark is now babysitting despite the fact he was originally down for that and unseen from Jack (she has her back to him), Steph already knows why it was changed.
Number 22
Elly drops in to tempt Paige out "for yum cha and massages" but she's forced to turn it down because she is working. She then spots Mark semi-naked and Paige explains that Gabe threw up on him and while he goes to hang his now washed out top to dry, Paige suggests that Elly helps babysit too. Despite it initially thinking it was a bad idea, Elly comes round to it and goes off to find Mark.
Penthouse suite
Paul is still furious and is ranting to someone on the phone but sounds like he isn't getting anywhere, so demands instead to see a copy of Nick's supervision order. Once he is off the phone, he wants to go check on Terese but Leo tells him not to and that David will take care of her. Leo also tries to tell his dad that Terese will see though any games Nick tries but Paul thinks that her "desperation to be cured is gonna trump that distrust."
LEO: She's got Gary to protect her.
PAUL: Oh, no, he's just a basket-case. Well, his aunt died of breast cancer, so he's still letting that grief cloud his judgment. No, I'm the only one who can see clearly here.
LEO: I know you care about Terese, but there's no point in getting worked up over a situation you can't control.
PAUL: Oh, really? And the alternative is?
LEO: Try to disengage.
PAUL: I can't do that.
LEO: Why not?
PAUL: Because I love her. Yeah. I've loved Terese for a very long time, and I will do anything in my power to stop Nick from harming her.
Ramsay Street
Steph takes Mark outside #22 to talk to him privately - she wants to know if he told Paige about her freak out. Mark replies no but she can sense something happened to make the plans for looking after Gabe change.
STEPH: Do you think I'm dangerous?
MARK: No.
STEPH: Then what? What, are you just worried about Gabe?
MARK: No, Steph, I'm worried about you. I don't think that you would deliberately hurt him, but I think that you should maybe go and see your doctor, sooner rather than later.
Steph has contacted her doctor but the earliest appointment she can get is Friday. Mark realises that means she is likely to see Gabe unless she gives Jack a wide berth.
STEPH: That's what I've been trying to do, Mark, but I already feel bad for avoiding him.
MARK: Well, maybe it's time to tell him what's going on?
STEPH: I don't know.
MARK: Look, I know things are still new between you two, but if you're gonna continue spending time together, your health is bound to come up soon, anyway.
Terese's office
Terese is feeling well enough to send Piper off. Before she does go, Nick has a quick catch up with his niece before suggesting that they all head home to catch up properly. Terese wants to know his thoughts first on her treatment plan and Piper decides she is staying put to hear what is being said.
Lassiters Complex
David wonders where Paul is when he runs into his brother in the complex. Leo has been sent out to get Paul an update, so David confirms that Terese has recovered from her faint and thinks that is all it was. When he then says that Nick is still with Terese and consulting on her treatment plan, Leo comments that Paul won't be happy!
LEO: What about you? Do you think Nick's scheming something?
DAVID: It's hard to say. He isn't doing anything suss, it's too early to tell.
LEO: What if Paul's right? What if this is revenge? Will he be able to do much damage?
DAVID: I can't see how. He's only advising.
Leo wonders if David can involve himself in her treatment so he can keep an eye on Nick for Paul? David is very unimpressed at his brother's request, coming on top of him asking to deal with Mannix, as it would mean breaking patient confidentiality.
LEO: You just need to assure Paul that Nick's gonna keep hands off and what he recommends is above board. Otherwise, he'll go crazy.
DAVID: Why is he so invested in this?
Rotunda
Steph has decided to do what Mark suggested and explain all to Jack.
STEPH: I had a freak-out when I was looking after Gabe the other day. And I have been avoiding you ever since, because I'm really scared of it happening again.
JACK: Well, you know, you were trying for your own baby not so Long ago. It's only natural that Gabe will bring up those memories for you.
STEPH: There's an element of that, sure, but, um... but I have a longer history of parenting and babies, and you should know it all before we... whatever this is, goes any further.
JACK: Okay.
STEPH: So, a few years ago, I was, erm...I was unwell and I stole a baby.
Terese's room
Nick's reviewed the information and he suggests her best way forward is immunotherapy. Piper wants to know why the oncologist recommended chemo and he explains that is a tried and tested treatment. Good news for Terese, Erinsborough hospital is considering running a trial, with Nick involved as a key researcher interpreting data. Nick describes the process to them and suggests it is the best way forward for Terese, despite Piper thinking they should give chemo a longer shot (the chemo would stop if she did the immunotherapy).
GARY: My Great Aunt Ethel had six rounds and it didn't work for her.
Given given how bad the side effects have been for Terese, Gary wants them to get the ball rolling urgently. Nick will arrange to see Clive to go get the process started; even though Piper doesn't look convinced this is the correct way to go.
Rotunda
It seems that Steph has told Jack everything including that she spent time inside. "You seem so well adjusted," Jack comments and Steph explains that her "meds help with that." She also goes on to explain that she was giving him, and Gabe, a wide berth until she had her dosage checked by her doctors.
STEPH: Anyway, it won't be an issue now, because you'll probably run a mile.
JACK: Mmm, no. No, I'm not going anywhere.
STEPH: Really?
JACK: I appreciate you telling me. At least now I know that it's nothing that I've done wrong.
STEPH: No, you're doing everything right, including being great about this.
JACK: Remember Amy's, house-warming, when you were giving advice about my future? You really helped me that night. And I want to help you now. So, whatever support that I can give you in whatever capacity that you feel comfortable with... A friend? Maybe more? It's up to you.
STEPH: Thanks, Jack.
Terrace bar
David joins Terese, Gary and Piper to run something by them - he wants to come on board to oversee her new treatment plan, as oncology is an area he is considering specialising in. "This is Paul's idea, isn't it?" Gary asks but David explains that Paul doesn't know what he is offering, but Gary isn't fooled.
DAVID: I believe Nick can help and I want to be part of that, but if it comes to pass that Nick is up to something, isn't it better to have as many eyes as possible overlooking things, just in case?
Gary wants to know why he thinks Nick would scam them, especially since the research centre is off the table. Piper wonders if Nick would be after some sort of revenge against everyone that turned against him. That comment confuses Gary since it was her idea to contact Nick in the first place, but the lass just wants to be cautious and with David being involved, they will not need to worry as much. "It is a fair point," Terese agrees and agrees to David's proposal.
Terese's office
Nick isn't happy with the proposal though and thinks it means Terese doesn't trust him. When she doesn't immediately reply, Nick asks why she got him out of jail in that case?! "I got you out because I want you to save my life," she replies before then handing him the key to his room at Lassiters, much to his surprised he isn't going to be staying at #22.
NICK: So, what? Now, I'm just your doctor and nothing else?
TERESE: After what you did, do you blame me for wanting to keep some distance?
NICK: Yeah, I guess not.
TERESE: Look, Nick you're my brother. That'll never change. You let me down in such a huge, huge way. I can't get past that.
Nick silently nods and then picks up some papers before slamming the door shut on the way out.
Number 22
While they watch over a sleeping Gabe, Elly is curious to know about Mark's conversation with Steph. He simply replies that it was some "stuff with Jack" and goes on to tell her that they are now dating. "Wow, I wasn't expecting that," she comments and asks how he feels about that. He is fine, although does find it a bit weird, but is mainly glad that Steph is happy.
ELLY: Seems like everyone's dating, but us.
She suggests they take inspiration and go out tonight, but he's got other plans and instead proposes they wait until things calm down work wise for them both. And on that note, with Gabe into the land of nod he decides to head home as he has things to do.
Paige literally appears 2 seconds after Mark exits and quizzes Elly on why he did a runner since "I thought things were going well?" Elly replies they were until she brought up Steph - she is still curious to know why Steph was round to see Mark and doesn't believe him when he says he is fine with Steph and Jack dating. "I am pretty sure they have both moved on," is Paige's reply which leads Elly to think it's her and decides that "until Mark makes a major effort with me, I'm just gonna focus purely on school." "Yeah, I think that's a great idea," agrees Paige.
Lassiters lift
Gary and Terese are talking about Nick when Paul gets into the lift. Paul asks how Terese is and she replies, "much better" and of course Gary can't but get a dig in by saying that its "thanks to Nick" and remarks about the shackles he has attached. Despite what Gary thinks, Paul didn't know about David overseeing her treatment until Terese told him in the lift.
PAUL: My son is a professional and, quite frankly, I'm pleased that he's keeping tabs on Nick. Terese's care cannot be risked.
Gary decides to stop the lift so he can have a chat with Paul!
GARY: You don't give a rat's about Terese. All you want is revenge for what Nick did to you.
PAUL: Oh, he's a scam artist.
GARY: Yeah, and you're out for blood!
It's Terese who puts a stop to the fighting and tells Gary that she trusts Paul and that he needs "to learn to trust him, too."
GARY: Yeah, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
TERESE: Yeah, well, I am certain that he has my best interests at heart. He kept a very big secret for me. He was the first person to know that I had cancer.
GARY: What?
