An embarrassed Jack gets dressed, as Tyler and Aaron fuss with Gabriel and explain about the housewarming at the penthouse.

PAIGE: All that, and leaving the church?
JACK: How did you hear that?
PAIGE: Word travels. Even to Queensland.

Jack almost throws up again, but manages to claw it back. He asks after Gabe but Paige pointedly tells him to have a shower and brush his teeth first!

AARON: Towels are in the cupboard. And you can use one of Mark's shirts, not mine, please.

As Jack stumbles off to the bathroom, Paige tells the boys that she'd come back a week early because she thought Jack might be missing Gabe, the implication being that she isn't sure he has.

The Citytm
Mishti and Aaron are headed to a city gym to track down Aaron's old contact in the gardening industry - she trains here every day. Soon enough, the contact, Chantelle, appears, and Aaron heads on inside to talk lawnmower. Or, more accurately, he vaguely says he has an opportunity for her - the kind he might need to demo.

Chantelle says she could spare an hour later, after meeting her friends for drinks. This evidently doesn't set off alarm bells for Aaron, and he says he'll text her the address to come to, before turning around to smile hopefully at Mishti.

No 30
Toadie has just spoken to the judge - Sonya's hearing is at 9am tomorrow.

SONYA: Thank you.
TOADIE: It's all part of the service.
SONYA: No, I really mean it, Jarrod - thank you. I haven't made this easy for you, and you've still stood by me, so...
TOADIE: Well, that's because you are a good person.
SONYA: Yes. But still, if the judge goes heavy on me -
TOADIE: No, stop talking like that. You are not gonna go to jail, alright?

Steph comes in, and Toadie looks to her for support for this assertion. Former jailbird Steph looks less inclined to utter platitudes in this regard, but reluctantly goes along with it. Toadie then says they could do with some more character witnesses; Sonya suggests Mark, but Toadie admits he was more thinking of Piper, David and Leo.

SONYA: No, Jarrod, we can't.
TOADIE: Having victims talk favourably about you is our best chance to getting a non-custodial sentence.
SONYA: Okay, but Piper can barely walk, okay? And Leo -

Steph interrupts, saying Leo has a couple of new business partners as a result of the crash, as well as a stake in the motel. Steph offers to talk to the Tanakas while Toadie goes to Piper. Sonya says she wants to be the one to ask, if anybody does - but Steph insists she should leave it to them.

No 24
Jack re-emerges, all freshened up, to find Paige with Gabe. Jack asks if he's been feeding OK, but Paige is more interested in finding out about why Jack left the priesthood without telling her, given they've been in touch all week.

JACK: I wanted to tell you in person.
PAIGE: After you'd made the decision.
JACK: I didn't think it was fair to use you as a sounding-board. I've already messed you around before - I'm not gonna do that again.
PAIGE: You don't have to leave the church because of us. We were gonna make this work.
JACK: It wasn't enough. I want to be there, fully present, for Gabe. And help you in any way I can. And I am happy with the decision that I made.
PAIGE: So happy that you went on a bender?
JACK: Okay, that wasn't my finest hour.
PAIGE: Well that's not an explanation.
JACK: I was in a bit of a strange headspace. You know, just feeling the full impact of leaving the church. It all hit me.
PAIGE: Hit you? As in regrets.
JACK: No. No, there are no regrets - I promise you.

Harold's Café
Paige catches up with Amy to rake over Jack's decision to leave the church - Paige is sure he can't be coping well with it. Amy admits that Jack was hoping for a transitional period, but that Bishop Green shut the church as soon as Jack quit. Paige is surprised - Jack didn't tell her that the parish had closed. Paige asks Amy if she thinks Jack may be hoping he and Paige will get back together.

AMY: Oh, look, he made the decision for himself. As for last night, I think we can call it a one-off. He won't want a repeat of that hangover.
PAIGE: True. Still doesn't change the fact that he's feeling lost. I just wish there was more I could do.

Amy suggests that Jack just needs reminding of what his new purpose is.

No 22
Toadie is talking to Piper about her providing a character statement for Sonya. Piper thinks it's a 'weird request', but Toadie says it might well mean the difference between community service and a jail spell for Sonya. At that point Tyler comes in, with coffee and 'awesome news' for Piper, and is surprised to find Toadie in the house. When he learns why, Tyler says it's 'a bit much' to ask.

TYLER: She's relearning how to walk because of what happened.
TOADIE: I do understand that it is a lot to ask...
TYLER: Well, if you did, I doubt you'd be here!
PIPER: Ty, this is my decision.
TYLER: I know you're looking out for your family, but this is too much.
TOADIE: I'm sorry you feel that way.
TYLER: I think you should go.
PIPER: No, Toadie, please don't feel like you have to -

But Toadie leaves anyway, asking Piper to think about his request. Piper looks conflicted.

Shortly afterwards, Piper tells Tyler off for presuming to speak on her behalf.

PIPER: You just made Toadie feel like the worst person in the world.
TYLER: I'm sorry, but I hate seeing you so messed up like that. This is the biggest year of your life, and you've already spent a chunk of it stuck in bed having people help you shower.
PIPER: Yeah, I know, Tyler - I know. And that sucks.
TYLER: People got hurt, Pipes.
PIPER: Yeah, they did. Just like when I burned the school down. Yeah, I wasn't drunk, but I was stupid. And Toadie was one of those victims, if you remember. For some reason, the universe gave me another chance. And instead of being in juvie, I get to be out here living my life with you. You, the idiot that I love. We all make mistakes. Don't you think Sonya deserves a second chance?
TYLER: ... I think you're a better, wiser human than I am.

They kiss, just as Paige comes in.

PAIGE: Oh, that is so cheesy it's gonna make me lactose-intolerant.

Paige's return is the 'awesome news' Tyler alluded to, and Piper squeals with excitement, waking baby Gabe up.

No 32
In the garden, Aaron, Mishti and Shane prepare (Rolly/Rollie/Roly? Do we have a canonical spelling yet? Perhaps against my better judgement I'm going with the subtitles' choice of Rolli), the solar-powered lawnmower, for their demo with Chantelle, while Dipi, Yashvi and Kirsha observe. Shane is keen to have a Rolli-themed bush ballad as part of the presentation, but Dipi talks him out of it.

Aaron is upset to hear Dipi refer to Rolli as 'it', rather than 'he', and reminds them all of the importance of Rolli being marketed as a 'faithful friend'.

No 22
Paige suggests to Piper that she and Gabriel could move in at No 22, pointing out that Terese said the offer was always open. Piper is surprised, as Paige is all set up next door with a baby room. She infers that Mark has something to do with Paige's wish to move out.

PIPER: Do you think it'll be too difficult for him, having Gabe around when he gets back?
PAIGE: No. No, that's not it. Being around Mum, Dad and Amber - it made me realise the importance of family. And you're it.

Piper says she doesn't need any convincing.

Harold's Café
Steph is begging Leo to write Sonya a character reference, pointing out that David has already written her a glowing one. Leo's unwilling, saying he's already done Sonya a couple of good turns.

STEPH: Come on. She has suffered more than enough. Leo, please. I've been in prison. It's hard, and unforgiving, and I just don't know that Sonya's built to survive it.
LEO: Alright. I'll do it. But, you owe me a favour.
STEPH: What does 'favour' mean in your world?
LEO: Well, you'll have to wait and see.
STEPH: Fine.

Leo opines that there's still a good chance Sonya will go down, even with all these references.

LEO: Maybe you should be a real friend, and prepare her for that?

No 32
Aaron is rehearsing his lawnmower pitch with Shane, with Mishti, Yashvi and Kirsha as audience. Shane keeps interjecting, but Aaron says he should leave him to do this. At that moment, Dipi comes round the corner with Chantelle, who's just arrived. But it appears she's brought a gaggle of female extras with her!

CHANTELLE: I assumed it would be 'the more, the merrier'!
AARON: Of course. I just don't know how much fun it'll be for you all, that's all.

Chantelle looks oddly at Yashvi and Kirsha.

CHANTELLE: A family audience seems like a stranger choice? Aren't women like us your demographic?

It becomes achingly clear that Chantelle thinks she's here to watch an exotic dance demo!

CHANTELLE: The Kalgoorlie Crew, or whatever it was!
YASHVI: What's she on about?
CHANTELLE: Wasn't that your dream? To have your own revue?
AARON: Yeah, it was - it was. Maybe five years ago! But right now, I'm trying to sell that lawnmower.

Chantelle looks super-annoyed that she's been summoned due to her buying role at the hardware chain, rather than for a naughty dance.

CHANTELLE: I'm sorry about the mix-up. But this is our day off. And we were expecting a lot more than a sales pitch for a mower!

The women begin to walk away.

MISHTI: Wait! What if Aaron danced for you?
AARON: What? No - no, no, no!
MISHTI: Yeah. That way, you ladies get your private show, and we get to show off this amazing invention to someone in the industry!

Chantelle seems open to this idea, so Dipi quickly ushers Yashvi and Kirsha next door - much to Yashvi's disappointment! Aaron looks super-apprehensive...

No 30
Sonya is with Nell, Steph and Toadie. Steph informs her that she's managed to get character statements from both David and Leo - but Toadie admits he's had no luck with Piper. Sonya looks worried - but at that moment, Piper turns up at the door, with a statement of her own.

PIPER: I wrote about how you helped me and Mum out a lot last year. If it wasn't for you and AA, I honestly don't think she would have got herself together.
SONYA: Thank you.

No 32
Chantelle, Dipi, Mishti and extras are all thoroughly enjoying Aaron's stripping routine, while Rolli the lawnmower trundles around him! We lapse into slow motion as Dipi turns the hosepipe on Aaron for added effect. Things turn sour when, during a particularly strenuous move, Aaron does his back in. We cut to him lying face-down on a sun-lounger with frozen peas on his back.

Chantelle is still hanging around, though, and has some news to make Aaron feel better. She hands Shane a business card for an investor who's a good friend of hers.

CHANTELLE: I've told him about Rolli. He's expecting your call.

A thrilled Shane hugs Chantelle, who heads off to reconvene with the girls. Even Aaron looks pleased, despite the pain.

SHANE: This is literally the best thing that's ever happened to me!
DIPI: Err, excuse me?!

Shane tells Aaron that he's now officially on his payroll.

SHANE: We're gonna be millionaires!

Shane slaps Aaron on the back, and he yelps in agony! But everyone's too thrilled to care.

No 30
Sonya is picking out outfits for her hearing tomorrow, while Steph and Toadie talk in the kitchen.

STEPH: Toad, I know we're trying to stay positive - but things might not go the way we want tomorrow.
TOADIE: We've got both victims on side.
STEPH: Yes, but we really need to be realistic. For Sonya's sake.

Sonya interrupts them.

STEPH: Son, are you prepared for what could happen at the sentencing?
SONYA: Well, I think so.
STEPH: I mean, are you prepared for the possibility that the judge could make an example out of you? You might not come home.
SONYA: I know that's a possibility, yes.
TOADIE: But we are being optimistic. I am gonna fight for you to my last breath.
STEPH: Absolutely. Absolutely. But - if it doesn't go the way then we want, then the ball rolls pretty quickly. And I just feel like at least if you're prepared, then you'll know what's coming.
SONYA: Yeah. You're right - I should know.

Toadie looks upset as Steph begins outlining the worst-case scenario.

STEPH: Okay. So if the judge decides on a custodial sentence, then you'll be taken to the cells and searched.
SONYA: Like...
STEPH: Yep. Yep.

During the conversation, Toadie walks out to the kitchen, very upset. Steph follows him.

TOADIE: She can't go to jail. She just can't.

Steph hugs him, and Sonya watches, upset.

No 22
The next morning, Jack is with Paige, Piper and Gabe - he says he's ready to help Paige move in. But Paige has other ideas.

PAIGE: Actually, do you mind looking after Gabe?
JACK: By myself?
PAIGE: Well, Piper's gonna be here till she has to go to school.
JACK: What about feeding?
PAIGE: He's just been fed.
PIPER: So all you need to worry about is the explosive post-feed poos. They're like, literally, hit-the-fan...
PAIGE: Do not listen to her. You will be fine.
JACK: And how do you know that?
PAIGE: Because I have faith in you.

She hands Gabe and associated accoutrements to Jack, and heads off to pack up her stuff. Gabe looks bemused.

No 30
Steph is playing with Nell when Sonya comes in. She's all dressed up, as is Toadie, who tells her it's time to go.

SONYA: I'm sorry for the toll this has taken on you.
TOADIE: It's okay.

Toadie heads out to the car, and Sonya comes to talk to Nell.

SONYA: Daddy and I have to go to a very important meeting, okay? So I've got to go now. Who do I love the most in the world?
NELL: Me!
SONYA: Yes, you. Can I have a cuddle?

Sonya hugs Nell, very emotional.

SONYA: I love you, okay? I love you so much. And I'll see you very soon, okay? My darling girl. Bye, darling.

Sonya goes over to Steph.

SONYA: If things don't go my way, can you look after her for me?
STEPH: You know I will.
SONYA: And Jarrod? It's going to be very hard for him on his own.
STEPH: He's not gonna be on his own.

Steph hugs Sonya.

STEPH: No-one's gonna be on their own, including you. You just remember that you can appeal anything, okay?

Sonya nods through the tears, before saying goodbye to Nell one last time.

NELL: Bye, Mummy.

Outside the court
Sonya and Toadie prepare to go in.

SONYA: This could be the end, you know? There'll be no more time for goodbyes. There'll be no more Nell.
TOADIE: I'm gonna be by your side all the way, okay?
SONYA: What if I go to jail, though?
TOADIE: It doesn't matter what happens. I'm gonna be there for you. Always. I'm not going to let you down. Not without giving it everything that I've got. I'm gonna take you home to our child.

They're both in tears by this point.

SONYA: That's why I love you, Jarrod.
TOADIE: ...

Sonya tries to compose herself, and they walk into the court together.
