The Flame Tree
Amy is trying to clean up the mess while Paul fields phone calls about the water and loses an exhibition booking. He tells Amy she always tries to see the best in people but forgets how many idiots are out there. Amy offers to pay but Paul knows she can't afford to. He calls Terese to see if she wants the business he has to turn away.
The Rec Centre
Amy tells Jack about the pipe and thinks Ace is scared he's in trouble. Jack says he'll call his family. Amy says Jack makes helping people look so easy. Jack tells her not to be so hard on herself. Amy asks Jack to let her know how Ace is doing.
Number 26
Xanthe is playing the tuba while Sheila is dusting the exercise bike.
SEHILA: Next time I want to go for a ride it'll be all ready.
XANTHE: Gran, all you ever do with that bike is clean it!
Gary is planning a fishing trip to take Toadie's mind off things. Sheila answers the phone but there's nobody there for the fourth time this week.
XANTHE: It's probably just kids mucking around.
GARY: Is that what it sounds like? How old do you reckon they are? Is it a guy?
SHEILA: I don't know love but the next time you answer the phone maybe you can find out their whole life story by the sound of their breathing!
Xanthe is going for a walk and Gary wants to know where. Sheila reminds him that helicopter parenting doesn't work.
GARY: Take your phone with you. I want to be able to contact you.
XANTHE: Like I'd go anywhere without it!
Xanthe leaves and Sheila wants to know why Gary is so nervy. Gary says he should cut back on the coffee.
Ramsay Street
Xanthe meets Ben outside and says she got his hang-up call but Ben says that wasn't him; he just got her text. Ben wonders if they should come clean but Xanthe says their families hate each other. Sheila comes out of the house so Ben hides behind her car. He tries to sneak away but Sheila opens her door again, knocking him to the ground.
SHEILA: Oh Ben, not again!
Karl appears and tells Sheila that cyclists are car-doored by drivers like her every day of the week! Ben claims he was tying his shoe and Karl takes him to ice his shoulder. Sheila tells Xanthe that boy isn't very bright.
The Flame Tree
Amy apologises to Steph who is helping clean up the mess. Steph says she's just trying to stay busy; this mess isn't as bad as the mess at home. Paul reappears. The water is back on but the restaurant won't be open for dinner. He tells Amy she needs to be more careful who she hires and not run her business like a home for lost boys. Amy apologises again and says she'll be more careful next time.
Ramsay Street
Sheila discovers her tyres are all flat and suspects Ben since he was hanging around. Gary looks nervously down the street and Sheila asks if he's OK. Gary says it's just a pain about the tyres and offers to walk to work with Sheila but she tells him to stay and organise his fishing trip. Gary has changed his mind because the bay is a bit choppy.
Lassiters Complex
Gary tells Kev's mate Neil that he was expecting Kev. Neil tells Gary that Kev won't back down until they're even. Gary says he can't get the money. Neil makes a plane out of a Waterhole coaster and aims it at Gary, saying Kev will keep on coming. Gary throws the coaster at him, telling him to tell Kev to leave his family out of it.
The Rec Centre
Ace's grandmother Bibiana tells Jack that Ace feels terrible for taking on Leo's dirty work but won't come with her to say sorry. Jack offers to come over later and talk to him. Amy arrives as Bibiana leaves and Jack tells her that Bibiana has been looking after Ace since he was a kid. He breaks the news that Leo paid Ace to trash the restaurant.
AMY: Just when you think someone can't go any lower they do something like this.
Jack thinks he can persuade Ace to own up but Amy doesn't want him to face Paul. Jack thinks she's covering up for Leo. Amy says Leo doesn't realise what a dangerous game he's playing.
Erinsborough Backpackers
Leo is about to send a text asking if Amy is free when Jack arrives and lectures him for paying Ace to break the law. Leo says Ace is old enough to make his own decisions and probably doesn't regret it. Jack says how hard it is for a kid like that to make good choices; he lost his parents when he was young and his grandmother is scared for him. He tells Leo that Amy is taking the blame for him. Jack leaves and Leo sends the text.
Lassiters Complex
Ben and Xanthe are kissing up the side of Harold's and Ben's shoulder is sore. Xanthe tells Ben she feels like someone is following her. Elly appears so Ben hides. Elly asks Xanthe what she's up to.
XANTHE: I'm just practising being alone, you know because I'm such a people's person it's like I hate my own company, which isn't true, so I'm just practising solitude... sort of like a personal goal of mine!
Elly leaves and Ben says they can't go on like this. Xanthe wants to sneak him into her bedroom and tells him to meet him at her window in half an hour. Someone is apparently watching them from behind the bushes.
Harold's Café
Amy meets Leo who says he owes her one. He offers her work building a new wombat cage but Amy says he's just throwing her a crumb. Leo says there will be more work in the future but Amy isn't interested. She tells him to drop the vendetta with Paul but Leo doesn't want to be the first to back down. Amy warns him that things will get out of hand.
LEO: Look, I've put everything into the backpackers. I'm not just gonna step aside because he doesn't know when to stop. And I'm not just gonna take it.
AMY: No, you'll look after yourself. That's what you're best at.
Number 28
Karl tells Sheila that Ben isn't here but he'll let him know she came to apologise, which clearly wasn't Sheila's aim. She wants to talk grandparent-to-grandparent about Ben.
SUSAN: What's this about Ben?
SHEILA: Well he seems to have a few issues!
KARL: Oh, does he?
SUSAN: Karl, I'm sure that Sheila didn't mean anything by that.
KARL: No, just like she didn't mean to clock him with her car door.
SHEILA: And why do you think that happened? Because he was letting out the air in my tyres.
KARL AND SUSAN: What?
SHEILA: Yes, four flat tyres, and a string of prank phone calls. I mean your precious grandson is harassing us!
SUSAN: Just have a cup of tea. I'm sure we can sort this out.
SHEILA: I can only stay for a bit; I'm on a break.
KARL: OK, do you have any proof that Ben's been doing this?
SHEILA: He was lurking.
KARL: Oh he was lurking; he must be guilty!
SHEILA: Oh, I don't know why I bothered. You are not taking this seriously. In fact, you never take us Cannings seriously!
Ben returns home and denies everything; he doesn't even know the Cannings' phone number. Sheila says she assumes they're just going to believe Ben. Karl says people's word counts for something in this family. Susan waves her arms and accidentally spills her cup of tea down Sheila's legs.
SHEILA: You did that on purpose!
SUSAN: I didn't!
SHEILA: Just like you did when you turned the hose on me!
KARL: OK Sheila, just calm down. Let me have a look at it.
SHEILA: Oh I've never known anybody so passive aggressive in my life! [Storms out]
KARL: Did you do it on purpose?
SUSAN: NOOOO!
KARL: Alright, alright, alright!
The Rec Centre
Leo brings a box of food as a peace offering and apologises for leading Ace astray. Jack asks what the point of apologising is if he keeps making the same mistakes. Something made him box up the food.
LEO: So what, because I feel bad I'm essentially good?
JACK: I've seen how you care about David and Elly, the regret you felt when you hurt Amy, the grief when your great grandmother died... those are not the feelings of a selfish person.
LEO: What about all the other things I've done?
JACK: Well, I won't know them until you make a confession!
LEO: I walked right into that one didn't I?!
They discuss Leo's Catholic upbringing. He realised that the church is a brilliant business model selling blessings and miracles but he's still not interested. Jack has to make some house calls and Leo asks him if he ever gets any down time. Jack says when he gets home he has a beer and plays some NBA jam. He invites Leo over some time.
Number 26
Xanthe is surprised to find Gary at home; she thought he was checking up on her as she felt someone watching her. Gary is concerned.
XANTHE: Dad, honestly, it's fine. It was all in my head. Who'd wanna follow me? Except on Instagram, but that's like the curated version of me which is much better than the me in real life!
Xanthe goes to her room and Gary looks out of the window.
Number 28
Karl is wondering where Ben is and Elly tells him he's obviously with Xanthe. Karl says they hate each other but Elly says that's not what she saw earlier. Karl can't believe it; they'll have to tell Gary and Sheila who'll have a field day. He goes to do some investigating.
Number 26 back yard
Gary finds the Waterhole coaster plane in a bush outside and picks up one of Sheila's gnomes as a weapon. Karl comes around the side of the house and Gary whacks him on the head with the gnome! Sheila arrives home and Neil grabs her. Sheila screams and Gary runs to her. Neil lets Sheila go and runs off. Sheila looks questioningly at Gary who realises he's in big trouble.
