Lassiter's Lake
Piper and Tyler are still kissing. Piper says she should probably head to the wedding reception, as she promised she'd film some footage. However the battery on her camera is almost flat. Tyler offers to take it to his place and charge it.
TYLER: And maybe, once the official part of the reception's over, you could...
PIPER: I could slip away and meet you?
TYLER: Only if you wanted to.
PIPER: I do. I do. I want to be with you.
They kiss again.
Here be titles.
The Waterhole
The guests have gathered for Lauren and Brad's wedding reception. Piper, Paige, Ned and Toadie are on the top table with the bride and groom; also present are Steph, Mark, Karl, Jack, Amy, Aaron, Paul, Terese, Lou and Kathy, along with assembled extras. Lauren is making a speech.
LAUREN: In our vows today, Brad and I wanted to acknowledge the past. But looking around the room now, all I see is the future. A future surrounded by a wonderful group of people who Brad and I both care about so very much (...) I'd like to make the first toast of the day to all of you. To family, friends and neighbours.
ALL: Family, friends and neighbours!
Lauren and Brad kiss. Ned is just about to embark on his best man speech, when Maxine Cowper comes in.
LAUREN (to Brad): Is that someone you invited?
Maxine waves at Ned and Brad. Ned says he'll have to go and sort this out, and Brad goes with him. Lauren is confused as to what's going on. Brad promises to explain later, and asks Toadie to perform the 'backup best man speech' while they're gone.
By the door, Maxine demands more money from Brad and Ned. Brad says they're not doing this here, and leads her outside with Ned. But Mark has witnessed the exchange, and looks suspicious. Lauren looks worried.
Shortly afterwards, Lou and Kathy are outside in the beer garden. Kathy asks if Lou's sure he wants a relationship, and not just out of nostalgia. He confirms he does.
KATHY: Where did we go wrong?
LOU: Oh, let me see. Somewhere between kids and mortgages.
KATHY: And get-rich schemes.
LOU: The homeware empires.
KATHY: We had some good times, though.
LOU: We sure did. And two beautiful kids.
KATHY: You know, on some level I think I always cared about you. I just couldn't live with you.
LOU: Do you think you could now?
Kathy points out that Lou's the world's greatest nomad, but he says he feels it's time to settle with her in Brisbane to be close to Bailey, Amber and Matilda - and they could go to Cambodia together a couple of times a year (to see Mai Ling).
LOU: Kathy, I was a fool ever to let you go.
KATHY: Yes, and we were both so pig-headed. We could have had something special, couldn't we?
LOU: And who's to say we still can't?
Harold's Café
Brad and Ned are talking to Maxine in the closed café. Ned apologises to an incredulous Maxine for burning her house down. Mark comes in, saying they're needed at the reception - but Ned decides it's time to step up and confess the truth.
Ned explains that he didn't mean to burn down the house, and Brad tells Mark how Ned risked his life to rescue Maxine from the building.
MAXINE: Oh, yeah, a real hero (!) Drags me outside and then takes off!
MARK: And you didn't report this to the police?
MAXINE: Oh, I trust you lot about as far as I can throw you!
Mark says Ned will have to be taken in for questioning; however, Brad begs Mark to at least let them finish the wedding reception first. Mark grudgingly agrees. Lauren comes in and demands to know what is going on.
The Waterhole
Among the wedding guests now at the reception are Paige, Amy, Jimmy, Aaron, Jack, Karl, Paul, Terese, Sonya and Toadie. Jack comes over to talk to Paige, who is behaving coldly towards him. He says he wasn't sure if he should have come given what happened with Blaze Outreach being closed down, but Paige says Brad's a forgiving guy. When Jack asks if she's forgiven him, there's no answer.
JACK: Please, can't we just go back to the way things were? Not complicated, just friends?
PAIGE: When were we ever just friends? Things have always been complicated with us. I wish you all the best, I really do. But there's no point pretending we can go back to some perfect, happy time that we shared. Because that time never existed.
Harold's Café
Brad is trying to explain the Ned/Maxine situation to Lauren. But Lauren's not happy that Brad has been sneaking around behind her back in order to deal with it.
LAUREN: You should have come to me first!
BRAD: Well, I was trying to protect my son!
LAUREN: You let Terese in on it!
BRAD: Look, I wasn't well at the time. I thought I was gonna die. And I didn't want to leave you with the responsibility of dealing with Ned if I was gone.
Lauren gets a text from Karl, saying the reception guests are awaiting their return, for the bridal waltz. Brad goes to take her hands, but she snatches them away.
BRAD: Listen, I hate that I've hurt you like this. Especially today of all days - I wanted it to be perfect more than anything. Can you please forgive me for what I've done?
Lauren doesn't look very forgiving.
The Waterhole
Nonetheless, Lauren has accompanied Brad back to the reception for the waltz. They dance and she still looks annoyed with him, but when he does a few showy solo dance moves, much to the guests' delight, she can't help but laugh. They continue to waltz.
BRAD: Isn't that why you married me, for my epic dance moves?
LAUREN: When I said 'for better or worse', I meant it. I just didn't think 'worse' would come along so quickly.
BRAD: I know, and I'm sorry.
LAUREN: I forgive you. And I love you.
BRAD: I love you too.
Karl calls everyone to the dance floor to join them. At one point, Lauren has a dance with Jack, but he and Paige are giving each other eyes across the room. Paige gets upset and tells Piper she's going outside for a while. Amy dances with Aaron, and then Jimmy. Ned returns for a dance with Lauren too, and she looks like she's telling him not to get carried away!
Paul charms Terese onto the dancefloor, but as they waltz she's still concerned with getting the footage of Tim Collins from Piper's memory card - as if she doesn't get it before the deadline, he'll print the story about her and Brad paying off Maxine. Paul tells her to relax and enjoy being 'the other woman'.
TERESE: It's not so bad. I don't think anyone's staring at me.
PAUL (staring at her): I wouldn't say that.
Piper, meanwhile, texts Tyler, saying she's on her way to meet him. She's just leaving when Karl approaches.
KARL: Have you seen Susan anywhere? I haven't got anybody to dance with!
Piper evidently has no intention of dancing with Karl, and swiftly makes her getaway.
KARL: Where is she?
Lassiter's Park
Susan is busy conducting another marriage ceremony on the quiet - and there are only two attendees - Lou and Kathy.
LOU: After all this time, what is there to say? We have been through the very best of it, and the very worst. We've loved with a passion, and we've fought like cats and dogs. But I believe that every path we take is the right one, provided you end up where you're meant to be. And I believe this is it - standing here, side by side, with each other, for good.
Kathy reveals that she still has the ring from their first wedding, and gives it to him so he can put it on her finger.
KATHY: I couldn't bear to get rid of it.
LOU: I, Louis Thomas Carpenter, take you, Katherine Alice Carpenter, to be my wife - again!
Everyone laughs, and Susan is thrilled to pronounce them husband and wife. Some nearby extras cheer and whistle.
The Waterhole
The dancing continues at the reception. Mark and Steph are among the dancers, and take a seat. He tells her that he'll have to get a statement from Ned as soon as the reception's over. Steph says she's proud of him; a year ago, she says, he'd have cuffed Ned on the spot!
MARK: Yeah, well a year ago, I arrested my fiancée at my own wedding.
Mark attributes his new, less zealous approach to policing his personal acquaintances to Steph's good influence.
MARK: You make me better. I love you.
STEPH: I love you.
They kiss.
MARK: Steph... marry me.
STEPH: I... I beg your pardon?
MARK: I mean it! Marry me!
Steph laughs with delight.
MARK: Is that a yes?
STEPH: Okay, yes - yes, I will!
They kiss. Meanwhile, Sonya comes back from the bathroom looking a little worse for wear. She tells Toadie that she's still having cramps and is feeling sick. She heads home for a night on the couch.
Once she's gone, Toadie gets a text message from his brother Stonie. It says, 'call me crazy... but is there a resemblance here??' There's a link to an image, and Toadie clicks on it - we don't see what it is, but his reaction is one of total shock.
Lauren and Brad call all the unmarrieds to the dance floor (including the men, as it's 2016 - but except Father Jack), for the traditional tossing of the bouquet. Mark is the one that catches it, much to Steph's delight.
Ned tells Lauren and Brad that they look perfect together.
NED: I know I've messed up today. And over the last few months. But I wanted to say thank you. For letting me be a part of this.
LAUREN: We're glad you came.
NED: It felt like a real family today.
BRAD: Listen, I know there were a lot of years that I wasn't there for you, but I'm so glad to get a second chance.
Ned goes to give his statement to Mark. Lauren assures him he'll be okay.
Meanwhile, Toadie is on the phone to Stonie.
TOADIE: Hey, mate. Where did you get that photo from? Did you take that yourself?... Yeah, it's actually freaking me out a bit. I think I need to see you.
Harold's Café
Evidently deciding the police station is a bit too much of a walk away, Mark brings Ned and Brad to the café to take Ned's statement. He starts by asking Ned why he went to visit Maxine's home on the day it burned down.
At that moment, another police constable, Miranda Corby, bursts in, and promptly goes to arrest him!
MARK: I'm dealing with this!
CORBY: By chatting in a café?! A woman called saying she reported an arson, but you refused to act.
MARK: I'm questioning him, and Ned is fully cooperating, so there's no -
CORBY: He's a gang member! And a proven flight risk. He's getting locked up today, end of story.
Corby arrests Ned for arson, and Mark grudgingly does the honours with the handcuffs! Brad looks mildly disgruntled as they take Ned away.
Lassiter's Complex
David is walking by and finds Paige crying on a bench. She tries to blame her tears on allergies.
DAVID: You know I'm a doctor, right?
PAIGE: Okay. You've got me. But don't ask me why I'm crying because I have absolutely no idea.
DAVID: It makes sense, it's your parents' wedding. You're gonna be emotional.
PAIGE: Yeah. Yeah, maybe. I mean, it is something that I've always wanted. Since before I even met them, all I've ever wanted is a happy, solid family. Two parents that really love each other.
DAVID: I've always longed for that, too.
PAIGE: It does not explain why I keep bursting into tears. You know I was supposed to be married this time last year? Then I got my heart broken, and then just as soon as I started picking myself back up, I - I lost my brother, and my grandfather. And then, I got my heart broken again.
DAVID: With Jack?
PAIGE: Yeah. Jack. I was clinging on to the idea of the guy that I first met - John Doe. But he is not that guy anymore.
DAVID: So it's over with him now?
PAIGE: Yeah.
Paige continues to cry, and David puts an arm around her awkwardly.
Ramsay Street
Lou is hanging a 'just married' sign on Brad's campervan, in preparation for Brad and Lauren's honeymoon getaway. But Lauren is telling Lou and Kathy about Ned's arrest; she says he's been denied bail and is now in remand, and that they'll have to stay in town to support him.
LAUREN: And look at us, all packed up and nowhere to go!
Lou makes a signal to Kathy.
KATHY: Would you mind if your father and I went on a road trip in your place?
LAUREN: What, together?!
LOU: Yep. We've sort of patched things up.
Lauren is overjoyed to learn that Kathy and Lou are back together.
LAUREN: I'm so happy for both of you!
Lauren goes to get rid of the 'just married' decorations from the van.
KATHY: Oh, hang on. There's something else we haven't told you.
Kathy shows her wedding ring to Lauren, who is even more overjoyed than before. They all laugh.
No 24
Terese and Paul knock, then poke their heads around the unlocked front door, looking for Piper's camera so they can swipe the memory card with the footage of Tim Collins.
TERESE: Should we go in? Aaron did say Tyler brought the camera here...
PAUL: The door was unlocked, wasn't it? So theoretically it's not break-and-enter.
TERESE: Why am I not surprised you know that?
Finding the camera on the table, Terese quickly opens it and takes the memory card, dropping it into her handbag. She prepares to leave but Paul just stands there smiling at her.
TERESE: What?
PAUL: Just something very pleasing about seeing you in espionage mode!
They walk out, Terese having entirely failed to notice Piper's red bridesmaid dress strewn down the side of the bookcase. We cut to Tyler's room, where Piper and Tyler are lying in bed together, evidently having TITTNL™. Tyler is asleep, and Piper watches him fondly, before stroking his hair, and kissing him.
Ramsay Street
Brad and Paige have returned home and can't believe that Lou and Kathy have got married on the sly. Lou explains that today was purely ceremonial, until the marriage licence comes through. Susan, Lauren, Brad and Paige wave goodbye, as Lou and Kathy drive off in the borrowed campervan for their honeymoon.
No 32
Later in the evening, Paige is in her dressing gown. She's taken a pregnancy test, and twiddles it in her hands nervously - before looking at the result. It's positive. She looks worried.
No 30
We cut to another woman with a pregnancy test - this time it's Sonya. This test is positive also - and she sits on the bed, looking conflicted.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Toadie is staring worriedly at his phone, when Stonie arrives - he's driven over from Colac.
STONIE: Where's Sonya?
TOADIE: She's in bed. I haven't told her anything about this.
STONIE: Not an easy conversation to have, huh? The resemblance is uncanny.
TOADIE: So this woman was just wandering around Colac?
STONIE: Yeah. Me and Chantelle, we were just playing around with our new camera, and I took a heap of shots. Wasn't until I get home, I saw her.
TOADIE: Okay. I've got to be realistic about this. She is gone.
STONIE: Yeah, but they never found the body, though, did they?
TOADIE: This could be anyone. A total stranger.
STONIE: A total stranger who looks just like your dead wife Dee?
Toadie zooms in on the picture on his phone. We see a woman sitting on a park bench, talking on the phone. She does indeed look uncannily like Dione Bliss...
