- Paige meeting Mon (Simone) for the first time and realising she knows Jack.
- Leo showing Elly the Men's Shed and what he hopes is his plan for new budget accommodation.
- Ned contacting his dad to tell him something important.
- Brad asking Terese that a weekly payment continues to happen.
- Leo taking photos of documents Terese has including one of $250 payments to a Maxine Cowper.
- Steph being told she won't be able to have another baby.
- Sonya suggesting using a donor egg but Mark doesn't want to have a baby with a total stranger.
- Sonya then suggesting she be the egg donor.
Sonya is trying to sell Mark the idea of her being the donor even if it would make things rather complicated. Mark's reservations are that she will become even more attached to the baby but she thinks a strong mindset from the beginning can overcome that.
SONYA: This baby is not mine, yeah? It's yours.
MARK: You really think that's possible?
SONYA: Well, I think with counselling, yeah. Look, if this means that it will give you and Steph a family, then I think I can do it.
Mark still doesn't look convinced despite Sonya's words but does agree to put it to Steph as another option. He also wants her to tell Toadie (since he wasn't there when she came up with the idea) and won't do anything without his blessing.
SONYA: If he's not on board with it, then we will not pursue it.
Steph swaps places with Sonya after entering the café and can sense something heavy was going on but Mark replies it wasn't and asks if she wants a coffee.
Leo is trying to get his head around the letter Brad wrote to Terese with the information about payments to Maxine Cowper and what it means. He changes the SIM card in his phone before calling her, pretending he is from the bank.
Simone is still raving on about their recent trip to Jack as they walk through the complex. After a brief chat with one of Jack's parishioners (Mrs Newman) suggests he should take the dog collar off and hang out with her but he knocks back her as he is too busy.
Meanwhile, Leo suggests as a goodwill gesture for the construction of the bike lanes that there should be some sort of fun event and suggests speciality cocktails. Terese is on board with his suggestion but can't go with him to the tastings as she's got a meeting with Sonya and no, he isn't invited along.
Leo does sit nervously listening to Terese as she takes a call from Maxine (about the payments) but is told to talk to Brad.
Blaze outreach (outside)
Paige rolls her eyes as she passes the centre while out jogging and witnessing Simone being ‘really friendly' with her dad.
Brad spots one of his star runners who hasn't taken part in a session and when he quizzes Kye on why he was absent, puts it down to Jack's involvement and refuses to talk to him directly as “they're all pervs.”
Simone has spotted what happened and asks Brad if that has every happened before and he replies just the once and things were very uncomfortable for Jack and that perhaps they should keep what happened quiet, to which she agrees.
Steph decides to cut to the chase and asks Sonya directly if she/Mark have been talking about her because she has a feeling they have been. “Yes,” Sonya replies and Steph is now perplexed that Mark is talking to Sonya but is closing her out by refusing to discuss using an anonymous donor and thinks it's a sign that he wants to split up with her. Just as Steph is working herself up, Sonya blurts out her offer to Mark.
SONYA: I offered him an egg. I am willing to be your donor, and your surrogate, if that's what you and everybody else are willing to get on board with.
Steph looks absolutely stunned at what Sonya has just said to her.
Toadie begins to reminisce about the Men's Shed and what it might be turned into as they cycle past it. While he is prattling on, Mark gets a text from Sonya saying she's told Steph so suggests to Toadie that they take a breather.
Mark begins by asking Toadie that he knows how much he wants a family with Steph (yes) and that he just can't do the anonymous donor egg (Toadie doesn't think he could either) before then saying that they might be able to get an egg… from someone that they both know.
TOADIE: You're not talking about Sonya, are you?
MARK: Look, she Just brought it up last night, completely off the top of her head, thinking on the run, just trying to make me feel better.
TOADIE: Am I the last to know?
MARK: Well, that was Sonya saying that she just spoke to Steph, so, yes. Mate, neither of us planned it like this, I swear.
Toad has heard enough and taking his bike walks away, ignoring Mark wanting to talk more.
Paige is very surprised to see Simone with her dad as she exits the sunroom. Brad explains that they are going to be working on getting some new sponsors for Blaze (her time away with Jack has invigorated her into helping) once he had a swim in the pool, which Simone invited herself along to. He invites Paige to stay but she turns the offer down as she's got something to do.
Paige runs into Jack as he exits Harold's and mentions to him about Simone being inspired to helping her dad… “whilst swimming in my pool.” She tells him of her fears that Simone is trying to get into her dad's pants but Jack denies she'd do a thing like that – flirt yes but she'd never act on it.
PAIGE: Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.
Meanwhile, Leo tries to suss Paul out to see if he's heard Terese talk about Maxine Cowper (no) before then revealing that Terese is after the Men's Shed (not sure why) but is scheduled to meet Sonya to discuss it. Paul wants to know when/where the meeting is taking place.
And that would be right now at Harold's! Both Sonya/Terese talk tentatively about it but Terese notices that Sonya seems somewhat distracted. Sonya says that she is fine but does need to go and pee!
While Sonya is away, Paul enters the store and stealthily manages to see what Terese is planning for the Men's Shed – turning it into a wedding venue. Paul gloats that she won't win it with her idea but Terese is quick to counteract that there are 3 parties interested (him, her and Tim Collins) but reckons it between them.
TERESE: I have beaten you before, I know I can do it again.
PAUL: I love it when you throw down the gauntlet, because it just makes me want what I want even more.
Sonya comes back from the toilet and Mark catches her to tell her that Toadie knows because it didn't feel right keeping it from him (as well as Mark feeling he had to) after she told Steph. “This is a disaster, Mark!” she proclaims and rushes out of the store to go find her husband.
Simone is coming up with sponsorship suggestions while sitting in the pool alongside Brad. She is surprised to see Jack and he explains he's round to offer his input into the sponsorship discussions too. Brad looks relived he's come by as it means he can get out of the pool despite Simone trying to keep him there!
Brad finally escapes the pool (he wanted to leave 15 minutes ago) and Jack orders Simone out of the water. “Why?” she innocently pleads and Jack replies that it stops now because he dam well knows what she is up to. “Get out!” he finishes with.
Leo pleads ignorant when Terese catches up with him demanding to know if he told Paul about her meeting with Sonya however a call to her mobile stops the interrogation.
The Waterhole/Number 32
The caller is Brad and he's calling over the phonecall Maxine got. Terese reports (as Leo sits overhearing) that with the questions asked, it was obviously a scammer. She then adds that now he's all better, she is washing her hands of it all.
Paige arrives just as Brad has hung up the phone asks what is up but he puts it down to having had a bad morning. She asks where Simone is and Brad replies she left with Jack, and adds that given they were supposed to all sit and talk, it must have been important enough for them to have left.
Jack is giving Simone the cold shoulder and she pleads to know what she's done wrong for him to be so mean to her. He thinks that she should know the answer to that – when she thinks he is ignoring her, she runs off to flirt with the nearest guy, which is usually someone he knows, to try and make him jealous. She is almost laughing at his insinuation that she was coming onto Brad but he sternly tells her that these “immature games are not on.”
SIMONE: You know, every time you get mad like this it actually makes me believe you really are jealous.
JACK: I can assure you that I'm not.
SIMONE: So, you don't feel anything for me? At all?
JACK: When will you grow up, Simone?
Leo gets rid of his brother so he can have a private conversation with Paul. Paul tells him what Terese's plans for the Men's Shed are, and both agree that it's a winner, and he now thinks his proposal must be faultless to stand any chance. Leo volunteers to assist him but is reminded that he is his spy not his business partner however Paul still wants him to be involved by distracting Terese enough so that she doesn't put in a good tender.
“I think I have the perfect thing already,” Leo replies then tells him about the payments Terese is making to Maxine Cowper (and that he didn't get anywhere when he called her). “This is very good,” Paul comments and tells Leo to see what else he can dig up while he does a bit of digging himself.
Mark finally catches up with Steph as she works on her bike but she still isn't in the mood to talk to him. She also doesn't think there is much to say because he's already got everything planned wanting to have the baby with Sonya.
STEPH: I am not really needed at all.
MARK: Come on, that's not true! I mean yes, the baby would be mine and Sonya's, biologically, but you would be the mother because it's you I want to have a family with and it's you that I love.
STEPH: Yeah, well, it's easy for you to say that now, but you don't know what this will do to us.
MARK: This will make us a family.
STEPH: (scoffing) Yeah - you, me, bubs and Sonya.
MARK: This is a gift. It's a way for us to have a child.
STEPH: Yeah, and so ls using an anonymous donor, but you weren't comfortable with that. Well, I'm not comfortable with this! It doesn't matter what you think, Sonya is always gonna have an interest in the child and why wouldn't she? It'll be half her DNA. She'll be the one carrying it for nine months. This could destroy us. And not just us, Toad and Sonya as well! I just cannot agree to this!
Sonya finally catches up with her husband and apologises for her not being the one to tell him about her offer to Mark/Steph. Toadie is extremely emotional and is struggling hard not to lose it.
TOADIE: I am struggling not to lose it right now, and that's not something I want to do, so... When Mark told me that you want to be the donor as well as the surrogate, that's just made me feel useless, redundant, side lined and why wouldn't I? I mean, you want to have a baby with another man! And not just any man, either. You know, he's your friend, he's my friend, too! But what actually hurts the most... is you talked to him about it before you talked to me, and that makes me feel like you are pushing me away already. And I can't help but feel it's because you actually want to have another baby! And that's not something that I can probably give you, but someone else can, so why not, huh?
Toad tells her that he is finished and that it's her turn.
SONYA: First of all, I want to say that I hear and that I acknowledge you're hurt, okay, I really do. And I'm desperately sorry, Jarrod, for the part that I have played in making you feel this way, okay? But when I...when I made the offer to Mark, it was off the top of my head, and I know that I should have talked to you about it first, I know that. But it just has nothing to do with me wanting any more children it is about helping our friends. And that is all there is to it, okay? You, you are my number one priority, Jarrod.
Toadie has listened to her but feels he cannot reply or if he did, he might say something he will regret so instead gets up and walks out of the house to go cool down.
Blaze outreach (outside)
A crowd has gathered outside the entrance to Blaze and Paige is trying to get rid of them and Jack too who has just walked up to the premises. Jack ignores her and walks past her to see what she was trying to protect him from and splashed across the front of the entrance to Blaze in capital letters is ‘BURN IN HELL DIRTY PRIEST.'
- Karl cycling first on the new bike lane.
- Paige telling Jack to leave it to the police to find out who was behind the graffiti.
- Elly asking Tyler if a guy she's seen looks dodgy.
- Elly then warning Angus to stay away from said dodgy guy.
