Number 30
Toadie arrives home and Sonya brings him up to date with what has happened from the brief snippet Steph told her. Both are unsure whether to knock on her bedroom door or not but the issue is taken from their hands when Mark arrives. He knocks on Steph's door but she tells him to go away, she doesn't want to talk and reluctantly he leaves turning down the offer of a beer with Toadie.

TOADIE: So, a nightmare to start off Halloween eh?!

Cue titles!

Lassiters Park
Already dressed in her Halloween outfit (a witch), Elly approaches Mark to ask to see his one (a scary mask) but it's really a pretence to get him talking. He tells her about Steph wanting to break up with him due to what is going on but he then starts complimenting her on how her persona says she's a bad girl but he doesn't think that is the case at all - she's "a beautiful woman with a good heart who's just been through a lot that may have made some questionable decisions." Sonya interrupts the chat to extract Mark from Elly so they can debrief.

Lassiters Complex
As they walk, Mark is telling Sonya what occurred - that Steph said that they were over before running out into the street, yelled a cab leaving him standing there with his mouth open. Sonya isn't able to tell him much about what happened when she got home other than she said that they were over before retreating to her room. Mark gets its due to the received news "but you don't do this sort of thing to the person that you love." Sonya tries to explain it was just a knee-jerk reaction and is now beginning to regret bring up surrogacy. "None of this is your fault," Mark points out and while Sonya gets that, she just feels it's causing problems that aren't there. To reassure her that isn't the case, he declares she is the best friend anyone could have.

Number 30
Toadie tricks Steph to coming out of her room by pretending he's left the house. "I'm such a jerk," she declares and Toadie reminds her that he is "a good listener... a jerk who listens." Eventually she opens up and tells him the news Victoria gave her that she's got no viable eggs, potentially due to the chemo. Toadie offers his sympathies but doesn't see why that means she's to break up with Mark but Steph thinks that was obvious because she's past it (because she doesn't have any eggs) and so has nothing to offer Mark.

STEPH: What can I give him that 20-somethings out there can't offer him, as well as a baby?
TOADIE: None of them are you.
STEPH: You're biased!
TOADIE: No, no, I mean it. Alright I'm not trying to say this to make you feel good, you are the warmest and most kindest friend I've ever had and Mark is lucky to have you.

He suggests she goes find Mark so she can repeat what she told him but Steph's heading to work, that is the only reason she came out of her room.

Garage
Gary drops off the clothes he borrowed from Tyler and is impressed at the car he is working on (Tim Collins's BWM that is in for a service). Their chat is interrupted by Vampire Ben dropping by to ask Tyler for help in setting their gear up for the school dance and somewhat reluctantly agrees to help the lad.

Blaze Outreach
Tyler is giving Ben and Elly a hand setting up while Piper (as Wednesday Addams) sits watching them. Angus eventually arrives and receives Elly's wrath a) for complimenting her on her costume and b) for not being here already to help set up. She is also quick to remind him that she's here to supervise not participate when Angus mentioned he'd something planned for her. Tyler isn't amused to find that Angus is busy chatting some other girl (Bec) up rather than helping set up or indeed talking to Piper (other than brief hello) who is sitting there like a bit of a prune!

Xanthe arrives (as a multi-coloured Unicornia) but her rainbow coloured costume isn't enough to lift Piper's spirits up (she's feeling down given the deaths of Doug/Josh/Regan and the make belief deaths of Halloween) but what does is the name Xanthe has come with for their group - Fashionistas and pleads with her friend to stay and watch their performance.

Tyler can't hold back from having a go at Angus for chatting up Bec in front of Piper. "Get out of my face," Angus tells him after making it clear that he's not with Piper, that them sleeping together was a one-off. Tyler picks up his stuff and leaves, so Piper rushes over to find out what that was about and Angus puts it down to Aaron telling him about them. Piper explains she was the one that told him so Angus deduces that Tyler is jealous.

Road outside the Community Centre
Toadie and Sonya (as Mr and Mrs Devil) lead Nell (junior furry cute little devil) towards the community centre to go trick or treating. They chat about the news Steph received and want to go chat with the resident medical expert (Karl) when they get home.

Blaze Outreach
Susan approves of the music being played by the band even if Mr Baxter has earplugs in! As the band finish a song, Angus thanks the audience (and changes the name of the band from Fashionistas to The Test Monkeys) before beginning the next one (Waves), one dedicated to someone special - cue camera looking at an uncomfortable Elly who eventually walks out mid-song.

Garage
Piper interrupts Tyler working on Tim's car to know why he tore shreds off Angus. "I misjudged the situation," is his reply explaining that he thought Angus was being disrespectful chatting up someone else while she sat nearby. He adds that he now knows it was a one-night stand and thinks it's sad.

PIPER: Tyler get over yourself, it's none of your business and you can hardly talk, it's not like you've never had a casual relationship before.
TYLER: I know, I know but the idea of you being with another guy, it kills me, Pipes. And hearing that it was meaningless, somehow makes it worse.
PIPER: Good, because you now finally know how I felt!

Breaking down crying, she declares she is "so over it" because he always says stuff like that but never acts on it. "You're never going to defy my family or yours even though you know what we had was real." He goes to speak but she shuts him down quickly because he doesn't get a say in her life anymore.

PIPER: You've been holding the cards for way too long Tyler and I'm finally sick of it.

Blaze Outreach
Xanthe/Ben discuss the name for the band since each seem to have a name for it - Ben's one is Black Money! Piper comes rushing in looking for Angus but neither know where he is but ask that she tells him to return pronto once she does find him.

The camera cuts to him chatting with Elly, who isn't at all comfortable about having him around her as she thinks it's obvious to others that he has a crush on her.

ANGUS: I might have been playing at first but Elly I love you.
ELLY: It isn't love, its infatuation.
ANGUS: This isn't some schoolboy crush.
ELLY: It's exactly what it is.

He then mentions about the tattoo he was going to get for her and she's aghast at the thought of that happening, especially without her permission. He thinks it was romantic but she thinks more like creepy! Susan eventually notices them talking and looks on disappointedly as the pair spring coyly apart.

The Waterhole
Mark is surprised to see that Elly has escaped from the school dance, she has sought refuge in the bar with a glass of wine to get over Angus declaring his love for her. What is surprising to her is that Angus is the first man to ever offer her unconditional love.

ELLY: They don't want me unless they are seventeen years old!

Mark reassures her that she will be fine, she's a great girl. She asks how things are between Steph/himself and his reply is that it's still up in the air but that the next move has to come from her. Elly says she is going home to watch a dumb movie and that he's free to come over if things don't work out... however someone watching might be jealous of that invitation - Angus who has secretly been watching them chat.

It looks like Mark won't be paying Elly a visit though as Steph calls and he heads off to go talk to her however in his haste, he has left his Halloween costume behind that he has been carrying with him all day!

Number 24
Mark arrives home to find Steph waiting for him. She begins by apologising for her behaviour today, trying to explain that the news gutted her for his sake not hers.

STEPH: I feel like I've made all these false promises, like you know "yeah let's have counselling." "Let's have a baby," and no hang on and I can't even do that.
MARK: Steph, I don't give a rats about any of that as long as you don't push me away every time you get insecure.
STEPH: I'm sorry.
MARK: You know, this might come as a surprise to you but I have feelings too and it hurts when you say you're dumping me.

Steph tries to explain that it's her MO, she just does that but Mark replies that she needs to learn running to him and not away. "You mean like this?" she says and goes to hug him

Number 30
Toadie/Sonya discuss what Karl has said to them - he thinks Victoria is just being overly cautious in telling them not to proceed but Toadie thinks she was being cautious so they didn't waste their money. Sonya's mindset is that Steph should still go for it and both are surprised to see a very together Mark/Steph walk into the house (plus it's a good diversion from the family eating sweeties!).

TOADIE: You look like you've sorted things out?
MARK: We have and we have an announcement to make.
STEPH: Look we know the odds are against us but we have decided to do 1 round of IVF.
TOADIE & SONYA: (together) GREAT!
STEPH: I know it's a long shot but I'll start the injections this week and we'll see if a miracle happens.

"So we're back in the game," Toadie declares before they all come together for one big hug, even Nell!

Garage
Despite telling Gary earlier that he wasn't tempted to take Tim's car for a spin, temptation finally gets the better of Tyler and he jumps into the driver's seat and takes off.

Number 28
Elly has either passed out drunk (there is a bottle of wine and an empty glass lying nearby) or the film has sent her into the land of nod as she lies sleeping on the sofa however she seems to wake when "Mark" walks past her dressed in his Halloween costume. "I hoped you would come," she mutters aloud. "Mark" removes his hat (but he still has on the scary mask) before he gets down on one knee to be at the same level she is lying on the sofa and at the last minute, removes the mask so that he can start kissing her.

Of course as soon as the mask is off, if we didn't need confirmation already, that it wasn't Mark who kissed her but rather Angus! After a few seconds, Elly realises exactly who is kissing her and immediately breaks the kiss off. She is quite alarmed at what has happened as the episode ends.
