The Waterhole
Mark is interrogating Jacka, who tells him in plain terms that there's nothing criminal about having a few drinks with Elly in a bar. Terese marches in and immediately spots Jacka, launching herself at him.
TERESE: How dare you show your face here! Get him out! Get this man out of here!
Terese is restrained and lead away by Brad, whilst Mark and Ned glare at Jacka.
Cue titles!
No. 32 Backyard
Elly brings a hot drink out to Ned, and they stay in silence for a moment. Eventually, Elly pleads that she didn't realise who Jacka was. Ned asks if it was payback for having spent the day with Regan and whether Elly was planning to hook up with Jacka. Elly denies both allegations, but Ned remains furious.
NED: I may have handled things badly Elly, but I was trying to protect you! And my family. Seeing you at The Waterhole with him... that terrified me. Who knows what he had planned for you.
ELLY: I'm so sorry.
NED: Jacka didn't want you. He just wanted to hurt me. You let yourself be used.
Ned packs his things and heads inside, leaving Elly in tears.
No. 28
Ben is teaching Angus some guitar chords and invites him to join his and Xanthe's band. Angus teases Ben for still not having slept with Xanthe. Elly bursts through the front door in tears, and Susan chases after her into her bedroom, whilst Angus asks Ben why she would be upset.
The Waterhole
Paul limps in and asks Terese if Jacka was really there. He comforts Terese and sits her down at a table, as she unloads her emotions.
TERESE: I keep wondering what my life would be like if it wasn't for him. My granddaughter would have a father, I'd still have a son, and you and I...
Terese trails off when she realises what she's said and gets choked up with tears. Paul clasps Terese's hand whilst reassuring her, and she asks if Paul can hold off warning Steph about Jacka to stay with her a while. Gary approaches and they immediately break their hands away, and Paul leaves. Terese is short with Gary whilst he tries to discuss their fling and tells her that he cares, but she just smiles meekly and leaves him.
No. 28
Elly has reappeared in the lounge with a box of tissues, whilst Susan councils her through her problems. Elly jokes that instead of knitting to relieve stress, she ends up flirting with other men. Angus eavesdrops on the conversation from the corridor. Susan tells Elly to get some sleep, as things always seem better the morning after. Elly heads off to bed and bumps into Angus, who has to quickly make up an excuse. He claims he's picking up a copy of Anna Karenina to read, much to Susan's delight, and she does a mini fist-pump once he's gone!
No. 30
Paul urges Steph to tell Jacka to stay away from Erinsborough. Steph reminds Paul that Jacka also has it in for her because she lied to him. She questions why Paul is so wound up about it, and suddenly twigs that he's still in love with Terese. Paul scoffs and tries to deny the accusation, but Steph tells him to stop being an idiot and tell Terese how he really feels.
No. 28
It's the following morning, and Ned had come over to see Elly. Angus tells Ned that she isn't in, and he warns him off, saying that Elly doesn't need to be put in any more danger. Angus steps in Ned's way, and he eventually gives up but asks Angus to pass on a letter to Elly. As soon as Ned has left, Angus crumples up the letter and places it in the bin.
No. 26
Ben checks with Xanthe that the house is empty, and suggests that they could spend some time alone together, as their plans were scuppered on the Gold Coast. Just as Xanthe twigs what Ben means, they are interrupted by Toadie and Gary, who have returned from a fishing trip. Xanthe ushers Ben away and says they'll eat at Harold's. Toadie asks Gary why he missed Brad's Bucks party, and Gary stalls for an answer, claiming that he got caught up at work.
TOADIE: I wasn't accusing you of anything, but I am now!
GARY: I was with Terese.
TOADIE: Oh, as in, with Terese! Okay! It's good to see you took my advice to steer well clear, buddy.
Gary relays what happened the previous night, explaining that Terese called him upset about Jacka, but then totally dismissed him when he arrived. Toadie suggests that Terese is just overwhelmed, and warns that she probably doesn't want to be seen fooling around with an employee.
No. 28
Angus is playing a song on his guitar, as Elly enters saying that she loves it. She applauds and says she remembers dancing to the song at her Year 12 formal. Angus says that he's glad that the music cheered Elly up, as it's an idea that he got from the nurses on the teenage cancer ward when he was visiting his mum. To top it off, Angus announces that he's also made pancakes, and Elly declares that she's been spoilt. She notes that Angus acts years more mature than all the other boys his age, which seems to please him a lot. Lauren knocks at the door and asks Elly why she won't talk to Ned, relaying the fact that Ned came round earlier and spoke to Angus. Angus moves to the kitchen and looks guilty, as it dawns on Lauren and Elly that he's been keeping back Ned's message. Angus calls after Elly, but she's furious with him for lying and goes to find Ned to sort things out.
Sonya's Nursery
Steph lays into Jacka for trying to upset everybody by hanging around. He tells Steph that same story that he's told the police; he's in Erinsborough to care for his sick mother. Steph doesn't buy the story and warns Jacka that he has to give up on getting revenge or else he'll end up back in prison.
Erinsborough Police Station
Jacka checks in for his parole and jokes with Mark that he's twenty minutes early. Mark looks smug and asks Jacka if he enjoyed his night.
MARK: You don't realise what you did, do you?
JACKA: I don't know what you're talking about.
MARK: You were in a pub. That's not exactly at home, caring for your mum now, is it? You went onto Lassiter's property. You distressed Terese Willis. That shows intent to cause trouble. Off the back of last night, I've made a request to have your bail revoked. It's only a matter of time before you're back behind bars.
Jacka leaves the station and looks furious. He has a flashback to a conversation that he had with Elly in the bar, in which she says that Ned will be giving himself a tattoo at home the following day.
Ramsay Street
Jacka sneaks up to No. 32 wearing sunglasses and a hoody. He breaks into the front door using a tool and enters the house.
No. 32 Backyard
Inside the garden room, Jacka removes his hood and searches the room, eventually finding Ned's tattoo kit. He takes out a small bottle and a syringe, and injects the contents into a bottle of black tattoo ink, replacing it in the case.
The Waterhole
Elly seeks out Ned and apologises for Angus' behaviour. Ned recalls the contents of his letter to Elly and explains that it was an apology for how he spoke to her. She promises that she'll be more careful, and Ned promises that he'll stop lying and disappearing. They kiss and make up.
No. 28
Angus is staring at a photo of Elly doing yoga on what appears to be a dating app on his phone. Susan enters and informs Angus that his Dad wants to organise his flights back to the UK. Angus doesn't look pleased and asks if he can stay for a few more weeks, considering he's already missed so much school in England. Susan is doubtful, but Angus promises that he can catch up and that he'll probably be shipped off to a boarding school anyway. Susan says that she's fine with Angus staying longer, but she'll have to check with his parents first.
SUSAN: You really like it here, don't you?
ANGUS: You bet I do.
No. 32
Ned puts on a pair of gloves and prepares to give Brad a tattoo. He relays the conversation he had with Elly, and Brad is glad that they've reconciled. Ned shows Brad the tattoo design; it appears to be a fancy letter 'L' tattooed on his ring finger. Ned warns Brad that it will hurt, but he insists that it's worth it. Ned pours the tainted bottle of black ink into the syringe and Brad starts squealing in pain.
NED: ...I haven't started yet.
BRAD: Oh yeah, right.
Ned begins to give Brad the tattoo...
Lassiter's Complex
Terese calls Gary aside and she apologises for brushing him off the previous evening. Gary says that he completely understands that it must be difficult for Terese as she's his boss, and he promises to be as discreet as possible.
GARY: I want to keep seeing you, and if that means acting like we barely know each other in public, then so be it!
TERESE: And you're okay with that?
GARY: Yeah, totally!
TERESE: You're a good man.
GARY: You're not too bad yourself.
Just as they lean in for a passionate kiss, Paul walks past and spots them in the act, gawping in shock. So much for keeping things private!
