Harold's café
Piper and Ned hand over some more pressies to Brad for the camper van, calling it late Father's Day gifts. Susan runs into the trio and tells Piper that her complaint about Elly will be dealt with as soon as she gets to school. Brad is shocked to discover his daughter has reported Elly and makes his displeasure known. Piper explains that she's his colleague, and is dating Ned, so this way it's out of his hands.
PIPER: (coyly) Happy Father's Day!
Cue titles!
Church
Jack has a visitor to the confessional - Amy and as she is talking (about men/being unable to trust them), Mark is listening to the conversation outside in his car. However as Amy talks, she partially dislodges the bug, which causes the signal to drop out on Mark's receiver.
Number 28
Susan tells Elly about the complaint Piper has made against her. Elly admits she was short with Piper, due to her migraine, but denies any name calling and as for the marks, they are a true reflection of her work. Regardless, an investigation into Piper's claims will still be held and Susan asks "is there anything you want to tell me before the board gets involved?" "I have been completely professional with Piper," Elly states and adds that after discussing things with Brad, she got Terese involved and after talking with her, it was dropped. Elly puts the whole thing down to Piper having emotional problems although does concede she's had a lot to deal with. In spite of Elly's opinions, the investigation is still going ahead and Susan suggests that Elly might wish to make contact with the union.
Number 26
Steph drops round some things for Charlie as the lad is staying there until he's on a place to Fiji tomorrow. Amy reassures Steph she'll look after him and advises her to tell Max the truth (he still thinks its Sonya that is the target) but Steph is fearful of doing that in case he doesn't come back. "It will all work out," Amy comforts her with and reminds her of the great relationship mother/son have.
Steph is somewhat surprised at the 'new' Amy and so she tells her friend about the trip to confession and as a result admits that she does feel better. She then goes on to tell Amy about her Uncle Tom being a priest and her ex-Mother in Law Rosie is a minister.
AMY: Catholic and Protestant, that's a whole lot of faith!
STEPH: Yes, I could do with even just a little bit of that faith right now.
Amy reassures her Mark is doing everything to keep them safe.
Police station
Mark discusses who could be after Steph with a colleague - Jacka (or one of his mates) or Clive and suggests to Miles about getting in contact with Belinda too. Miles mentions that Mark was spotted sitting outside the church but he manages to pass it off.
Ramsay Street
As Steph comes up the driveway of #24 she can sense someone is there and after the tension music comes to a crescendo, there is someone there - Belinda! She immediately apologises for scaring Steph and explains why she is back (the police called her) and Steph confirms the stalker and that they've been in the house, hence why she is very jumpy. Belinda thinks she knows who is after Steph but adds that it isn't about her.
BELINDA: This is about me.
The Waterhole
Elly moans to Ned that Piper is being malicious putting in a complaint about her to Susan. He tries to reassure her she won't lose her job. "You do believe me, don't you?" she hesitantly asks and while Ned replies that he does, he equally doesn't think Piper would make something like this up.
NED: Kind of caught in the middle here.
ELLY: You know she can be vindictive.
NED: Look it's probably just a communication breakdown, a personality clash.
Elly concedes that perhaps she is being too harsh but tries to suggest that Piper is prejudiced against her as a teacher because she's intimidated by strong women and has had little boundaries too.
ELLY: If I'm going to survive this I'm going to have to protect myself.
NED: And how are you going to do that?
ELLY: Well I need to find proof...
And she comes up with the vlog made after the formal and asks Ned to get it for her. He refuses her request and instead offers to try and talk Piper down but she turns the emotional screw by commenting that if she loses her job she'll have to move away and would he want that to happen.
Eden Hills Animal Sanctuary
Mark calls by to ask the senior ranger about local licensed snake handlers after a release of a brown snake that bit a woman. Mr Jessup can't help but suggests Mark talks to Ari, a volunteer who Mark already knows and he goes to head to talk to him where Mr Jessup said he'd be. However, he doesn't get to talk to him as he receives a call from Steph and immediately rushes off.
The Waterhole
Piper appears at Ned's request and he explains about acting as an intermediator to find a solution but as far as she is concerned, the only solution is Elly admitting what she did/give her the mark she deserved. Ned admits that he isn't sure who to believe as Elly tells a completely different story to her version. Piper isn't too enthralled at her family not believing her hence taking action herself although eventually does concede into talking about it with him. When Piper heads to the toilet, Ned begins to look through her phone.
Meanwhile, Jack spots Amy sitting and goes to talk with her. She thanks him for this morning and that she feels so much better however is now unsure how she can talk to him like a normal person now. He tries to reassure her that nothing has changed, they simply carry on as normal, what happened in the confessional is just like talking to your doctor/lawyer and as if to cement their resumed friendship, suggests a game of pool.
Number 24
Belinda has the name of someone that might be responsible - Marion a former patient of the psych ward before Steph arrived who had paranoid delusions. "Marion's in love with Belinda," Steph says to Mark and Belinda adds that his delusions got so great that he had to be transferred to another hospital... and who was released about 8 weeks ago. That timing coincides with when Belinda was last in town and he's apparently called the hospital in Bendigo and found out about her de-registration (over Steph) through friends at the hospital.
Mark wants to know why she thinks it's him and it's because of the snakes, Marion was a snake handler. He asks for Marion's surname and is told 'Philcox'.
MARK: Any relation to Ari?
BELINDA: That's his nickname.
Mark is off like a shot and warns the ladies to stay at the house and together.
Eden Hills Animal Sanctuary
Mark is back at the sanctuary wanting to talk to Ari but is told he's gone, he left to go find someone and Mr Jessup adds he doesn't think he'll be back Ari has taken all his stuff... and his snakes too!
Number 28
Susan is now conducting the results of the inquiry at her house as she, Elly, Piper and Brad sit around the table! She reports that she's looked into Piper's marks and found nothing untoward there as they were falling and adds that while Elly's marking is hard it's fair as she's marked correctly against the criteria. Piper can't believe it while Elly is quick to thank Susan for her support. Susan explains the discrepancy in the marks Ben was awarded as him getting credit for the music score and that she also scored low marks for classroom participation.
PIPER: Of course I was, she hates me!
SUSAN: Piper, are you sure it's not the other way around?
PIPER: ...
Susan then continues by saying she didn't realise that Piper was so antagonistic against Elly until she was sent a vlog where Piper publicly shamed her. This is news to Piper as it was only up online briefly and Brad interjects to say he thought it inappropriate and Piper took it down as requested. That is irrelevant as far as Susan is concerned, it's just proof of how much Piper resents Elly, just as how she came to find it!
Elly says she'll forget all about it if Piper apologises but instead Piper accuses her of playing dirty by sending the vlog to Susan.
Piper has stomped out of the house, so Brad apologises to them on her behalf and Elly reassures him that they will work it out.
Number 24
Mark returns and tells Steph/Belinda that Ari has taken off and backtracks slightly to say he was there (at the sanctuary) originally to talk to him and must have taken off after hearing his conversation with Steph. "He knows I'm here?" Belinda ask and Mark replies yes and that she's here with Steph. Steph thinks he's done a runner but Mark doesn't think so based on what the ranger said. Belinda agrees with him especially as Ari has now got her to come to Erinsborough.
BELINDA: He's still obsessed.
Mark apologises to Steph for not figuring it out earlier but she points out that it's only now the connection has come to light. "I will catch him," he promises and that he won't underestimate Ari again. Mark then apologises to Belinda as she is much a victim as Steph is.
Belinda warns that neither of them are safe and Steph wants to go check on Charlie but Mark vetoes that as she'll then put him in harm's way. Mark tells them to pack stuff for a new days and he'll find them somewhere safe to stay since Ramsay Street and the motel are ruled out.
Community centre
And the safe place is the community centre (with a police officer guarding the door all night) although Steph is upset at not being with Charlie for his last night, although she promises to Skype him later when she talked to him on the phone. Mark again vetoes Steph meeting Charlie and admits that the place isn't ideal but it's a less obvious place to hide them in than a hotel.
MARK: He won't think to look for you here.
BELINDA: We'd be better off up in Bega!
MARK: We can't protect you if you're on the road or hundreds of K's away.
STEPH: He's right, it makes sense.
Mark says that someone from the station will be round soon with bedding and orders then not to tell anyone where they are nor to leave the building. He then pulls Steph into an adjacent room give her a hug and to personally ask if she's okay with this (she is if he is) before giving her a farewell kiss and leaving them to it. While that was going on, Belinda was trying to look anywhere but at them!
Harold's café
Piper is still curious to know how Elly got hold of the vlog as she/Ned enter the café. She is also still frustrated at what happened (and how Susan now sees her) so Ned asks if he shouts her a hot chocolate will she calm down?!
PIPER: Only if I get a marshmallow!
NED: I'll get you two!
PIPER: You're an excellent brother!
Mark is surprised to see Amy in the store as he comes in to get dinner for "some friends" and she explains that Sheila is looking after the boys while she came to get supplies.
Before she leaves, he asks (since he's not Catholic) if people wait inside the church before going to the confessional and she replies that given she's only been to confession once in the past twenty years, she probably isn't the best person to ask. However, he still wants to know if she saw anyone/if there were any interruptions but the puzzled look on her face, stops him asking any more questions.
Church
As Jack prepares to close the church for the night, an annoyed Amy wants to know how Mark knew she'd been to confession. Jack suggests it's as the result of extra patrols the police are doing but it's the 'interruption' bit that is most getting to her and Jack comments he'd only know about that if he were present inside the church.
AMY: Which he wasn't.
Amy's phone then gives off that interference noise and Jack comments he's heard that a few times today in the confessional and wonders where it is coming from. He takes her phone and makes his way into the confessional, where the interference is strongest, and having a look around, discovers the hidden bug.
JACK: I don't believe it.
AMY: Is that a bug?
Jack silently nods his head and from the look on Amy's face, she's worked out who planted it!
