GARY: Have you ever been in a situation where you had to do the wrong thing for the right reason?
AMY: Yeah. Why, what's going on?
Amy tells Gary it's a parent's job to give their children what they need. Gary says he doesn't have enough money for everything.
AMY: Well then, you've got some tough choices to make. You have to learn how to say no.
Gary asks if she can lend him some money, but she can't (and he's asked Sheila).
GARY: I'd tutor her myself, but it would be a case of the blind leading the blonde.
Toadie and Terese arrive, and Toadie tells Madison that Terese got a two year suspended sentence. Meanwhile, Cecilia has disappeared. Terese thanks him for representing her.
TOADIE: You stuffed up, but you came clean. And to be honest, if I lost one of my kids, I think I would have gone a bit mad too.
Toadie leaves, and Terese gets a text. Madison tells her not to leave "him" hanging (as it's obviously a man). Terese says she's not encouraging him, as he's too young.
MADISON: But do you like him?
TERESE: Yeah, he's kind of fun.
Tyler is outside the garage as Piper and Xanthe wander along to Grease Monkeys. Piper is frustrated because she and Tyler have broken up, and she wants to go over and to talk to him. Xanthe points out she has to convince Terese.
PIPER: I've tried that like a thousand times.
XANTHE: Maybe you're not going about it the wrong way. Mum always said that if someone's not happy with who you're dating, let them know you could date a million times worse.
Xanthe gets a text - Gary has found her a tutor.
Toadie and Karl are exercising. Aaron and Tom arrive, and Karl invites them to join them when they ride on the freeway. They decline, but promise to let their friends know.
AARON: What's the hashtag?
Karl hasn't got that far, and says he's using email.
AARON: You're letting them know one at a time?
KARL: (laughs) No! It's a group email!

Gary sighs and says he'll deal with her.
Terese flirts a bit with Ryan, who says he wants to arrange a meeting. She says she's busy all day, and leaves Madison to fix a time. She asks him what the meeting is about.
RYAN: Outsourcing the, um, linen service.
MADISON: Dirty laundry.
He asks how closely she works with Terese, and Madison says she won't mention his past. He tells her that she shouldn't worry about Amy, as she made good money.
RYAN: You could too.

Gary offers to help Sheila hang out the washing. She asks what he wants, and he says he needs to borrow some money, explaining that it's for a tutor. Madison tells Piper that she's not being fair on Terese. Piper says that she knows her mother better than Madison. Madison says that she knows how busy Terese is, but anything to do with Piper is in her calendar with three alerts.
PIPER: That's because she's OCD.
MADISON: That's because she doesn't want to let you down. But from what I've seen, you do that to her on a daily basis.
Tyler tells Steph he's glad it (the relationship with Piper) is over. Steph tells him he should keep his distance. Not so easy, as she walks in.
At the pool table, Ryan is teaching Terese how to play, which looks very friendly. Piper says that Madison had said that Terese was supposed to be working. Terese says she is, they are, they were...
PIPER: Talk about double standards, mum. Isn't he a little young for you?
RYAN: It's not what it looks like. We're just friends.
PIPER: Really? Because it looks to me like you want benefits.
PIPER: Well, I wouldn't get your hopes up, because our family has a very strict policy on age gaps.
Terese tells her that's enough, and Piper says she was coming to apologise, but accuses her mum of being a hypocrite. Tyler has heard everything.
Sheila dismisses the stuff Xanthe has to learn as "rubbish", and Xanthe says she can look up what she needs on Wiki. Gary arrives with some cash, which Xanthe assumes is for her dress. He informs her that her schoolwork is more important, and she may not get through if she doesn't starting working.
XANTHE: That's OK. I can always repeat Year 11. I can't always have another formal.
GARY: Sorry. You can still go, just not that dress.
Gary stuffs the cash in a jar on the fridge.
Toadie groans as he puts his feet on a chair. Karl takes a photo.

He specifies that he would like to work part- time, to use the office address, and have a notice advertising his business. And he's got himself a job!
Tyler apologises to Terese for causing angst between her and Piper. She says that they have always had a difficult relationship. Tyler says it comes out of caring. She says that she doesn't want Piper to miss her formal because they can't agree. He says he missed his formal because he had a black eye from his dad. Terese comments that it was awful. Gary overhears and says he seems like a decent young bloke, and suggests that Terese give him and Piper a break.
Susan is at the bar, and Gary tells her he's got a tutor. She's pleased, and Gary asks how Xanthe got so far behind.
SUSAN: There have been some gaps in the teaching staff.
GARY: Well, you better plug them. I don't want her falling behind.
SUSAN: Yeah, well, I'm working on it. Hopefully we're having a new English teacher starting next week. Susan leaves, and Gary rings Kev to say he's not doing the job.
We see a series of texts on his phone, from which we learn that he's borrowed money from Paul.
