No 22
Imogen, Piper and Ned are looking at a photo of Josh and Doug. Both the girls are very tearful.
PIPER: Mum and Dad could never get Josh out of the water.
IMOGEN: Not unless they bribed him with ice-cream!
Imogen's surprised that Ned remembers the place they bought the ice-cream.
IMOGEN: Good memory. Pop always said he should have bought shares in that place so that he could have been a millionaire and retired at forty!
PIPER: Yeah, but money isn't everything. I mean, look how things turned out for that Tom Quill guy.
IMOGEN: They only found his ID. That doesn't mean he was killed in the blast.
PIPER: Yeah, but if he was, that's gonna be three lives Paul's responsible for.
There's a knock at the door - it's Steph, with a Casserole of Compassion™. But Piper responds with anger.
PIPER: You knew what Paul was up to, didn't you?!
Steph denies this, but Piper isn't listening.
PIPER: You knew he was up to no good. And if it wasn't for you two, Josh and Pop would still be alive!
Piper smashes the casserole dish down furiously, then storms off upstairs. The titles roll.
No 26
In the back garden, Sheila is hanging out the washing, and lamenting to Susan about how quiet the place is without Kyle. Susan smiles along, but gets to the point quickly - asking why Sarah was bringing a suitcase in before. Sheila admits she's invited her to stay since the motel was full, and Susan is unimpressed.
SHEILA: I thought you'd resolved all that nasty business with her and Karl the last time she was here?
SUSAN: Well, I might have forgiven. But it's not that easy to forget. Especially when she's being so vague about why she's here.
Sheila admits that she thought Sarah would cover Kyle's portion of the rent, which is why she invited her to stay. She also admits that she's already let slip about the tension Nene caused between Karl and Susan.
SUSAN: Sheila! Please, please don't give any information to Sarah about me or Karl. I prefer to keep our lives separate from hers.
Sheila promises that her lips are sealed!
Erinsborough Hospital
John Doe is still unconscious and on a ventilator. Paige is by his bedside asleep, her head resting on the bed. Tyler comes in and wakes her up. She admits she's been here all day.
PAIGE: Nowhere else to be.
TYLER: What about at home with your family?
He expresses concern that she hasn't even met Ned yet, because she's 'more interested in getting to know a stranger'.
PAIGE: He saved my life!
TYLER: He's still a stranger.
PAIGE: Have you come here to help me, or just annoy me?
Tyler says he's called all the customers in his logbook, and the only one he couldn't get hold of was a guy named Alex Jones. He's since called Lassiter's and found out an Alex Jones was also staying at the hotel - so that could be John Doe's real name. Paige leaps up and gives Tyler a hug; she asks if he'll drive her to the police station so she can give them the stranger's name.
TYLER: Only if I can take you home to meet your brother afterwards.
PAIGE: Deal.
Ramsay Street
Ben is playing his guitar on the front step of No 28, while Susan and Karl stew over Sarah, and why she's chosen to move in next door. Susan thinks she's here because of Karl - so he suggests that they both go over to ask her why she's here. Susan agrees, but heads off for a walk around the block first to clear her head. Karl heads inside.
Xanthe comes over to talk to Ben, asking if he's been to see Piper yet. He claims he's just giving her some space. Xanthe enthuses about Sarah moving in with them; she's inspired her to invest in a new wardrobe, and wants to use some of the $10,000 stash they found in the hotel.
When Ben reminds her they agreed to return it to the owner, she explains it was Tom Quill's room - and that he's presumed dead, so won't be needing it anymore!
BEN: So you think it's alright to spend his money?
XANTHE: Well... no... I dunno.
BEN: Promise me you won't go on some shopping spree until we know more about Tom.
XANTHE: Okay! I promise, I won't go shopping.

Paige arrives and finally meets Ned, apologising for being 'MIA'. Imogen doesn't look too pleased that Paige has been hanging with a stranger at the hospital, and Ned jokes about how awkward things are, to break the ice.
PAIGE: Meeting new people and dealing with death. What a stellar combination (!)
Imogen pointedly suggests that Paige should look at the condolence cards they've received now she's 'finally here'. Paige wants to do it later so she can go back to the hospital, but Imogen emotionally blackmails her into staying.
Piper comes downstairs, and Ned talks to her about the casserole incident - asking if she gets angry a lot. Piper blames Steph for coming round, and says it's unfair that she and Paul are walking around while Doug and Josh are dead. Ned suggests Piper should talk to a counsellor when things settle down. She explains she has one already - and was with her when Josh died.
NED: You know, I was only a little bit younger than you when I lost contact with Brad. I know it's not the same, but it was a pretty rough time.
PIPER: Did you talk to someone?
NED (laughs): No.
PIPER: Right, then why do you think I should?
NED: Because I went off the rails, Pip. I did some pretty awful things to people. I was angry and I lashed out - but trust me, it doesn't make you feel any better.
PIPER: Well it did for me.
She stomps off.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paige is talking to a still comatose John Doe.
PAIGE: So you're an Alex. That's funny, because I would have picked you for a Michael. Don't worry, I'm not gonna hold that against you; it's not like we can pick our names. I was gonna be called Lily. Me! I am the furthest thing from a flower. Maybe you can tell me what I look like when you wake up... Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that they found the guy who did this. Paul Robinson. He didn't just hurt you, but we lost two amazing people because of him. But that is not gonna happen to you. You are gonna pull through this - I know it. Come on, Alex Jones - please wake up!
A woman appears at the door.
PAIGE: Who are you?
WOMAN: Alex Jones.
Scene change, and we return.
PAIGE: Then who is he?
ALEX JONES: Not sure. He just helped me carry my camping gear.
PAIGE: At Lassiter's? Well, maybe he was a guest at the hotel?
ALEX JONES: Possibly.
Alex Jones explains that the garage card was hers - she was having car troubles - but she used it to write her phone number on to give to John Doe, as she thought he was cute. She's been camping ever since the blast, so had no idea about it until the police called her.
PAIGE (sighs): I really thought you were him.
No 22
Imogen is tearfully watching Piper's 'Pop Doc' of Doug on her laptop, and smiles as Doug recounts the story of Piper's birth on the video. Ned comes in - he was going to see if Piper wanted to go for a walk, but she's asleep upstairs. Imogen explains what she's watching.
IMOGEN: I know he's gone. But I just keep expecting him to come in here, and ask me where his slippers are. And I have to remind him that he doesn't live with us; he lives across the street.
Imogen's voice trembles as she talks. She can't help but watch the video, she says, even though it's upsetting her - it's nice to see Doug so coherent, and that's how she wants to remember him. Ned comes to watch the video with Imogen, and laughs along with her at the amusing anecdote Doug is delivering about Piper's birth.
DOUG (video): Family's a miracle. Bringing your kids into the world - that's how we make our mark.
Ned glances at a smiling Imogen, apparently moved to tears himself.
No 26
In the garden, Sarah is on the phone - presumably to one of her kids, Antigone and Angus.
SARAH: Just keep up with your homework, okay? I'll call you tomorrow.
Karl and Susan march into the yard.
KARL: Sarah?
SARAH: You can't just sneak up on someone like that who's just survived an explosion. I'm jumpy enough as it is.
SUSAN: And you can't move in next door to us and think that that's okay!
KARL: We just want to know what you're doing here.
SARAH: Don't worry - I'll stay out of your way.
KARL: You asked to meet me at the hotel. What were you gonna tell me?
SARAH: ...
KARL: Oh, Sarah, come on.
SARAH: I don't want to have this conversation now.
KARL: No - anything you've got to tell me, you can say in front of Susan.
SARAH: Erm, I'd rather not!
SUSAN: Stop playing games!
SARAH: Games are the last thing I've got time for.
She tells the Kennedys that she's lost her job - and since her former employer owns the West Waratah Star, she thought she'd try to pick up a job there. Karl says that doesn't explain why she wanted to talk to him at the hotel.
SARAH: Well that's all you need to know, Karl!
She marches towards the house.
KARL: We're not finished here!
SARAH: Yes, we are. You're both too amped up - I'm going inside.
The Kennedys gasp with anger and frustration!

Ned drags Piper downstairs to show her something, insisting it'll help her feel better. It's not the Pop Doc which she shot, but another video of Doug, which he got Josh to film and send to Ned. Ned explains that this is why he came to Erinsborough.
DOUG (video): I know we haven't spoken in a long time. But I've always believed it's never too late. Especially when it comes to family. I think it's time we put the past behind us, and tried to move forward. If there's one thing this terrible disease has taught me, it's that life is way too short for regrets, and holding onto anger. Believe me - I've wasted too much of my life doing just that. And for what? It doesn't get you anywhere. The worst thing is, I don't know how long I've got before I forget everything. That's why I want you to come to Erinsborough. It's time we make new memories together - before it's too late.
Piper sobs, and Ned comforts her.
Erinsborough Hospital
Outside John Doe's room, Tyler asks Paige how her meeting with Ned went. She says it was 'okay', but that her head wasn't really in it. She says she'll spend more time with him later, as he's sticking around for a while.
TYLER: Brad really needs you right now.
PAIGE: He's got a lot of support.
TYLER: He just lost his father and his son on the same day. Can you imagine what that's doing to him?
PAIGE: Yeah. Probably exactly what it's doing to me.
TYLER: But rather than being with Brad, you're here with this dude. It's not your responsibility.
PAIGE: I feel useful here. I don't want to sit at home and make condolence cards, okay? I want to help the man that saved my life.
TYLER: I'm not judging you.
PAIGE: Even if you are, I don't care. I'm staying with him until he wakes up and I find out who he is.
Ramsay Street
Sheila's heading to work. Xanthe says she was going to cook her dinner, and Sheila asks why she's been making such an effort. It becomes clear that Xanthe has been trying to cheer Sheila up since Kyle left. While emphasising that she's not going through anything like what the Willises has been, Sheila admits that she doesn't like the quiet, and that's why she asked Sarah to move in.
XANTHE: You and me, we couldn't be quiet if we tried.
SHEILA: That's true. And you're not gonna leave me now, are you?
XANTHE: I'm not going anywhere.
They hug.

A tearful Piper turns up to see Steph. She's brought her a new casserole dish, to replace the one she smashed, and apologises for her behaviour earlier.
STEPH: Piper - you have to know I had nothing to do with the explosion. I swear on my kids.
PIPER: Yeah, I know. I just think you were an easy target.
STEPH: I get it.
PIPER: It's just - I don't know where my head's at at the moment.
STEPH: You know that's okay though, don't you?
PIPER: Is it?
STEPH: Yeah.
PIPER (crying): Because right now, everything just feels so muddled. Like, I feel like I'm walking through this cloud. Or it's like a fog - I don't know, I can't explain it.
Steph comforts her, saying she understands.
STEPH: Things are gonna be really bad for a while. But you need to know that it's okay for you to feel angry, and cry, and just feel whatever it is you need to feel. This is all part of the grieving process. There's no right or wrong way to go about this stuff. There's no rulebook to tell you how to deal with it.
PIPER: Yeah. I'm not following any rules at the moment. I obviously have no idea what I'm doing.
STEPH: But that's the thing. You're not supposed to. Come here.
Steph hugs Piper as she sobs.
No 26
In the garden, Sarah is on her Phone of Exposition™ again.
SARAH: I'm doing fine, really... I know I've said it before and I know what you're gonna say, but sometimes I do wish that things had worked out with Karl... If the kids had had him as a father, things would've been different... Antigone and Angus would have had a proper dad, not Peter... Susan?... She's never liked me. And from what I can see, they're just not in a good place.
Xanthe is hiding behind the house, and listens in on Sarah's conversation.
SARAH: You know, I really don't know what I'm gonna do. But I'm only next door. I'll keep watching.
No 30
Sheila comes round to see Steph on a break from work. She has some bad news having just visited Terese. Julie Quill is currently at No 22, Sheila explains, and is fuming after learning Paul is the prime suspect for sabotaging the boiler. Sheila explains that Julie has found out that Steph, in addition to her job at The Waterhole, is co-owner of...
SHEILA: ... That rat-nest of a motel of his. Her words, not mine.
Julie has therefore asked Sheila to fire Steph from the pub. Steph says that's okay - she was going to have to cut back on her shifts anyway, now that Robinson's is fully booked!
SHEILA: Oh well, enjoy that while it lasts.
STEPH: What do you mean?
SHEILA: Julie's on the warpath. She thinks Paul blew up her hotel, and she thinks you're in on it!
Sheila tells Steph to duck for cover - Julie is going to start slinging mud her way!
No 28
Susan is chopping up veggies when there's a knock at the door. Karl answers it - it's Xanthe. She wants to go and see Ben in his room, but Susan reminds her that they're supposed to be seeing less of each other, and says Xanthe shouldn't disturb him while he's doing his schoolwork.
KARL: I can't argue with the boss.
XANTHE (pretending to leave): Okay. I just wanted to talk to a friend about Sarah Beaumont.
KARL: What about Sarah?
XANTHE: Well I just heard her on the phone, talking about how you're this really great guy, and how she wishes she ended up with you! Did you guys used to date?
KARL: Err, sort of...
XANTHE (to Susan): She also said that he would make a really great dad to her kids.
SUSAN: ... Well! At least now we know.
Everyone looks awkward, except Xanthe.
XANTHE: So, can I go hang out with Ben now?
Once he's shooed Xanthe out, Karl points out that...
KARL: Xanthe is prone to exaggeration.
SUSAN: Oh, Karl!! Even if she's talking it down, it still sounds terrible!
KARL: What are we gonna do?
SUSAN: Ignore her!
KARL: We can't! She's living on the street - I'm treating her for a leg injury!
SUSAN: Get another doctor to treat her!
Susan's also against Karl's idea of going to talk to Sarah again, saying she's forfeited her chance to come clean.
SUSAN: No, Karl - I'm finished with her, and so have you!
KARL: This is so childish!
Susan points a cucumber ominously in Karl's direction!
SUSAN: I mean it! I need you to stay away from her.
Karl winces as Susan starts angrily chopping at the cucumber with a knife!
