Grease Monkeys
Tyler steps outside with a burger and notices one of Aaron's flyers. He takes it down and crosses the road, whilst leaving Josh an urgent voicemail to phone him back.
No. 26
Indiana watches on as Sheila scrubs her gnomes in the kitchen sink - they have to look their best for Christmas! She tells Sheila that she's very lucky to have bought the house, and she'll be supported by Kyle and Amy's rent, as well as future Airbnb guests. Kyle asks Sheila to put his washing out as he has to pick up Jimmy, but she gives him a hostile look. Indiana offers to do it, but Kyle says it's fine and leaves the awkward situation.
No. 24
Mark scolds Aaron for putting up the flyers and impersonating a police officer in order to interview suspects. Aaron says that he should be thanking him for working on the case as the police haven't done anything.
MARK: Why are you so interested in this anyway?
AARON: Well I feel bad for Steph, you know, she deserves justice.
MARK: And you're going to solve this mystery are you, Scooby Doo?
AARON: Yeah, well I know more about the accident than you do.
Mark sarcastically asks Aaron to dazzle him with his information, who explains that there's a service station a mile from the accident and the gas attendant's girlfriend noticed an erratic driver straight after the accident. Mark looks annoyed that he missed this piece of evidence and drags Aaron down to the station to make a statement, leaving Paige rather bewildered! As she takes a towel and heads out of the lounge, a figure peers around the doorway of the laundry room - it's Michelle!
Fitzgerald Motors
Tyler leaves another voicemail for Josh, but is interrupted by Steph who notices the smashed taillight. She invites him for a catch up at The Waterhole as she's about to start her first shift back, and inquires about the owner of the car. Tyler acts very vague and says he'll have to check. Steph becomes suspicious and asks what's going on.
No. 26
Jimmy is helping Indiana and Sheila wrap presents in the kitchen. Sheila hands Indiana a very full stocking. When Jimmy points out that it's Kyle's stocking, Sheila snaps that Indiana deserves the best one. Indiana says that her Dad is German and that they open presents on Christmas Eve, so Sheila says that they'll do that too. Indiana offers to invite Kyle and Amy, but Sheila dismisses her suggestion saying they'll be too busy.
No. 24
Paige returns to the kitchen wrapped in a towel, and is completely startled by Michelle. She explains that she was placed in a caravan park with only one night of police protection, and a creepy man has been hanging around since last night. Michelle begs Paige to re- house her.
MICHELLE: Do you know what Dimato would do if he found me? I just need a place to stay, just until they find me a new safe house. Paige, please!
Harold's
Kyle, Amy and Jimmy bump into Indiana, who tells them about Sheila's celebration, and she is introduced to Tyler. Kyle seems devastated that he hasn't been invited, and Jimmy tells him that Sheila's angry with him as she's given away his Christmas stocking.
JIMMY: She says you needed a kick up the backside.
AMY: What have you done to upset her?
KYLE: I have no idea! You know what, if Gran wants to be this way then fine, we'll have a celebration tonight, just the three of us.
The Waterhole
Josh receives a text from Tyler urging him to call back, and Steph comes over to confront him about the taillight. He plays ignorant saying he only noticed it that morning.
STEPH: Well if you've got nothing to hide, I guess you won't mind me mentioning it to the cops.
JOSH: Wait - it wasn't me who ran you off the road, but yes, I know something about the accident.
STEPH: What?
JOSH: I can't say just yet, but if you just give me a few hours, I'll tell you everything you need.
STEPH: Okay, you get two hours. If I don't hear from you by then, I'm going to the cops.
Josh is left looking shaken.
No. 22 Backyard
Josh and Doug are sitting on the picnic bench.
DOUG: So you covered for me?
JOSH: When I saw you come in all rattled, and talking about flashing lights and running a car off the road, I figured something had gone wrong, so I took the car and tried to search the neighbourhood for an accident. But when I couldn't find anything I thought you were just confused. Until I heard about Steph and Paul. And then I thought there's no point dobbing you in because no one was hurt, everyone was fine.
DOUG: And now Steph thinks that you're involved?
Josh says he's going to tell the police it was him, but Doug insists that he do it and explain about his Alzheimer's.
DOUG: They'll go easy on me! A sick old man, who's not right in the head.
JOSH: Okay, but what if they decide to lock you up in a home?
DOUG: I'd hate it. But maybe that's where I should be.
JOSH: No, no. You need to let me handle this, okay?
No. 24
Michelle tells Paige how she got involved with Dimato in order to make her parents notice her. Paige says that she had a wealthy upbringing too, but didn't feel the need to get arrested.
PAIGE: I'm sure Daddy took care of that.
MICHELLE: He decided that I was a bad investment. Told me I was on my own. I haven't spoken to him in five years.
PAIGE: What about your mum?
MICHELLE: She does whatever Dad tells her to do, which is fine. I don't need them now that I've found Jesus. He never lets me down, and he never stops loving me.
PAIGE: You can spare me the fake Christian rubbish yeah?
No. 26
Jimmy returns home and says that Kyle and Amy will be back later, and Sheila invites Tyler dinner (who is getting rather cozy with Indiana). When out of earshot, Jimmy asks him and Indiana why Sheila's mad at Kyle, but they can't figure out why. Jimmy enlists their help to reconcile them.
The Waterhole
Steph writes a Christmas card to her "beautiful boy Charlie", but is interrupted by Doug who introduces himself. Steph points out that they've actually met years ago. Doug says he wants to talk to her about the car.
No. 24
Mark returns home furious that Michelle is in his house, and reassures her that the caravan park is safe. After hearing about the strangers, Mark agrees to chance her location, and she thanks Mark - and also Paige for listening to her.
The Waterhole
Doug explains how he decided to borrow Josh's car but then got scared and turned around, hitting Paul's car. Steph doesn't believe his story, and thinks that he's just taking the flack for Josh. Doug recalls the exact details of the accident and managed to convince her.
STEPH: So Josh was covering for you?
DOUG: Only when he knew everyone was okay, and only to protect me!
STEPH: He still broke the law Doug, you both have!
DOUG: If you need to report me to the police, I'll understand. But please, please keep Josh out of it.
Harold's - Kitchen
Amber asks Amy if she regrets being a single mother and expresses her concerns about being a parent, but Amy reassures her.
AMY: There will be so many days that you'll be so tired, you won't know what to do with yourself. There are never enough hours in the day, ever, but the plus side is that you and Matilda are going to be this amazing two-person team.
AMBER: I already feel that way.
Amy points out the upsides of being able to avoid conflict about parenting matters when you're single, and Amber thanks Amy for her advice.
The Waterhole
Steph has come to a decision, and (in Mother Bonner mode) scolds Josh for being noble now that he's a father, but says ultimately she's decided not to report either of them.
STEPH: I do have conditions. No more driving for you, not even to the shops and back. I want your word.
DOUG: You've got it.
STEPH: And you're family need to be far more vigilant. You need to take better care of him.
JOSH: We'll make everyone aware that Pop's going to need 24/7 support from now on.
DOUG: I don't know what to say, you've saved the rest of my life.
STEPH: I know how it feels to do things you wouldn't normally do, because your mind's not right.
Steph leaves them, and Doug and Josh hug.
No. 26
We get a glimpse of Christmas decorations on Ramsay Street. Sheila is startled when Kyle and Amy arrive, and Jimmy explains that he invited them over. Indiana and Tyler leave for the pub arm in arm so there's enough food for them. Sheila explains her worries about Kyle and Amy wanted to find themselves a home, but they quickly explain that she's completely misunderstood.
SHEILA: So you're not planning to move out yet?
KYLE: No, of course not! And next time you're planning to worry about something I might do, talk to me!
SHEILA: Alright Dr. Phil!
They are quick to start on the egg-nog, and Jimmy looks pleased at causing the reconciliation.
No. 24
Mark gets off the phone to a colleague, and says that Michelle is on her way to a new safe-house. He warns Paige not to fall for Michelle's stories as she's a professional liar, but it's clear that Paige has been moved after hearing about her family life.
The Waterhole
Aaron arrives having been texted by Steph, and she asks him to put an end to the investigation. She reassures him that he doesn't owe her anything, and offers him a beer to start over.
No. 26
Over a musical montage, crackers are being pulled over the Canning/Williams Christmas Eve dinner, and everyone seems to be having a very merry time.
Harold's - Kitchen
Amber looks at a job vacancy for a Public Relations Officer role, and then at Matilda.
The Waterhole
As "Christmas Card" plays poignantly, Steph looks on from behind the bar wistfully at a mum with two boys eating and then to her Christmas card to Charlie.
No. 24
Paige gets a text from Michelle thanking her for not kicking her out. She goes to delete the text but hesitates.
Harold's Kitchen
Music montage now over, Josh apologises for missing the appointment and admits that the stress of the situation with Doug was getting to him. He says that he wants to make it up to Amber by helping her make up some hampers, and Amber goes to get a list of addresses. As Josh is cooing over Matilda he discovers the printed job vacancy.
JOSH: What's this?
AMBER: A job. A really good one.
JOSH: In Queensland?
AMBER: Yeah.
JOSH: You're not thinking of applying are you?
AMBER: They've already offered it to me. And I'm thinking of taking it.
