Outside Off Air
Toadie is angry that Sonya lied to him about going to the benefit, and refuses to go back in. She admits she should have gone with her instinct, but says that Karl thought it would be good for him to get out.
TOADIE: Getting out is one thing. But being the guest of honour at a pity party...
He wheels off to find Stonie. Karl comes out to see what's happening, and Sonya tells him that Toadie wasn't ready and she shouldn't have brought him.
Terese has a stall next to Lauren's. Daniel apologises, saying they were tight on space. And that makes a difference... ? Because they still could have swapped. So... Karl and Sonya tell Daniel that Toadie is "clearing his head" and they should get started. Sonya thanks Daniel for all he's done. Karl does an introduction, and Ben plays a guitar solo.
Toadie tells Stonie that they were ambushed. Stonie says he could have stuck around, because people were trying to help. He points out that Toadie's had an accident and he's in a wheelchair. Toadie says he doesn't need reminding.
Naomi and Kyle sympathise with Sheila over Russell leaving. She says she wanted to go with him, but she realised that he needs help.
SHEILA: It's so hard to come to terms with the fact that I'll probably spend the rest of my life alone here working behind the bar.
Naomi and Kyle assure her that they are not going anywhere. Sheila says at least there's something exciting happening with Naomi and Paul. Naomi lies, saying it's going to a restaurant, but Sheila insists she tell Kyle. Kyle says he's happy for her, but Naomi doesn't seem that happy.
Ben is still playing guitar, and now Kyle is talking to Amy about the "buddy day", where he has agreed to be Jimmy's buddy. Amy is excited to see Darren Purchese. They talk about the engagement and Kyle says he doesn't know why everyone is trying to protect him.
KYLE: I'm fine with it. Except for the fact I'll be related to Paul!
KYLE: No offence.
Kyle says they've probably been dying to tell people, and Amy says Paul's been excited about it...
Naomi tells Darren the desserts look amazing.
Kyle goes up to the microphone and says he's no good at public speaking, but he's got good news...
KYLE: My Auntie Nomes is a very classy lady, and that's why she's decided to pick...
NAOMI: ...our next surprise performer (laughs nervously).
She introduces Karl (who is more of a "surprised" performer) and encourages everyone to give generously. Paul looks bemused. Karl takes the stage and is joined by Ben for a K squared exclusive.
Toadie wants to home, so Stonie tells him to call Sonya. Toadie says that Sonya will already have decided how he feels. Stonie points out that Sonya took him to the benefit because he needed support. He needs to be realistic.
TOADIE: If your reality was spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair, what would you do?
STONIE: Probably what you're doing. But that doesn't make it right.
TOADIE: I don't want to be some loser that people feel sorry for.
STONIE: In what universe are you ever gonna be that guy?
He reminds Toadie that the community have got together to support him.
STONIE: Give your friends the chance to show you some love.
Outside Off Air
Kyle asks Naomi why she didn't want him announcing her engagement.
NAOMI: Don't get me wrong, I love Paul. I don't think I want to be married. I guess I'm worried the minute we say "I do", the charm will wear off. And then maybe another woman will come along and ruin everything. Believe me, I've been the other woman.
KYLE: If that's how you feel, why'd you get engaged?
Kyle tells Naomi she has to tell Paul how she feels.
Karl asks Sonya about playing the tribute to Toadie. She tells him to go ahead, saying she'll record it on her phone. Then Toadie arrives, accompanied by Stonie. He and Sonya apologise to each other, Toadie says he's got to get used to the reality of the wheelchair. Sonya approaches Stonie, and thanks him for bringing Toadie back, and apologises for what she said earlier.
Everyone watches the Toadie tribute.
SUSAN: When Billy first brought Toadie home, we thought "what have we done to deserve such a wayward, bad influence on our son?" But then we got to know him, and the more we knew him the more we liked him. And we kept on knowing him for the next twenty years.
KARL: And it wasn't all smooth sailing. I must say Toadie got our Billy into constant trouble. He stole our car, almost burned down Erinsborough High School...
TOADIE: That was me, yeah.
KARL: ...but we watched him grow, and we watched him emerge into a man who would do anything for his family.
SUSAN: Toadie has emerged from devastating tragedy before. But not alone. Toadie, you have made our lives richer in ways you cannot possibly imagine. We are here today to pay that back.
TOADIE: Firstly, I would like to say, I never stole Karl Kennedy's car. I just borrowed it without asking! Despite that technicality, I'd really like to thank the Kennedys and of course, the wider Erinsborough community. I never thought I'd be sitting in a wheelchair saying I'm lucky, but that's exactly what I am. I'm lucky I've got the best family a guy could ever imagine. So just thank you.
They've got Toadie a present: a wheelchair, which looks like his current one, only blue. He looks thrilled. Stonie says he has to go home, so Sonya says he can come and stay anytime.
Paul asks if they've seen Naomi. He spots her, but she walks off, leaving him looking puzzled.
Susan asks Lauren if she needs any help on her stall. She says she's fine, but suggests Terese might like some help. However, Terese isn't there. Susan assures despite what's happened, she and Lauren are still friends
LAUREN: I just thought, knowing Karl's history, you might not be so forgiving.
Susan says that life is a lot more complicated than she thought, and nothing is black and white.
LAUREN: I never wanted to be in this position, and I hate that we've hurt so many people.
Really? Should have thought of that before you flirted with Brad at every opportunity. Lauren tells Susan she's going to Brisbane to tell her parents, and Mason and Bailey. Susan takes her hands supportively, as Lauren says she doesn't know how Bailey will react. Terese sees them.
Naomi is behind the bar, sorting out supplies. Paul insists that they talk about why she stopped Kyle announcing the engagement. She assures him she loves him, but she's not sure about marriage.
NAOMI: Marriage is something that people like us fail at or destroy for other people.
PAUL: So you think that by saying "I do", it might ruin a good thing.
NAOMI: I mean doesn't it scare you: "Till death do us part"?
PAUL: I guess I have said it a few times.
Paul suggests that they love each other as long as they can, and forget about wedding bells. Naomi agrees.
Terese apologises to Susan, saying she was out of line last time they spoke. Susan says she feels she has to be wary when she speaks to Terese, and is pleased to hear that Terese is addressing her drinking problem.
SUSAN: You've been confiding in me for a while how you've been worried about Lauren and Brad.
TERESE: Oh yeah, and I've been proven right.
Terese says that Lauren has had feelings for Brad for 2½ years. Susan says it doesn't mean it was pre- meditated. Terese is furious, asking how Susan could speak to Lauren after what she's done. Susan says she's trying to be impartial.
TERESE: If you were any friend, you would tell her you were on my side and you want nothing to do with her.
Susan says Terese can't ask that, and Terese says Susan has made her choice.
Toadie and Sonya prepare for a romantic spin home. Karl and Daniel give them a box containing $6500 they have raised. Sonya thanks them and Toadie hugs them.
Kyle is composing a text to Georgia, saying he misses her. Amy tells him it's not a good idea, and he needs to let it go. He asks how Toadie and Sonya and Paul and Naomi stick together through the tough stuff and everyone he loves, leaves.
AMY: Sometimes we just choose the wrong people, that's all.
KYLE: Yeah, I thought Georgia was right.
Amy tells him any girl would be lucky to be with. He leans in and kisses her. Paul has just arrived and is not amused at what he sees.
- Amy tells Paul that the kiss didn't mean anything
- Kyle tells Paul it won't happen again, and Paul tells him to stay away from her and Jimmy. Amy is annoyed with Kyle.
- Naomi asks Paul if he's embarrassed by her
- Paul doesn't want "her" to ruin his reputation
- Josh tells Imogen not to tell anyone, otherwise people will get hurt.
