Number 32
Lauren asks how she can still be alive as Kathy had told her that she died, she looked Lauren in the eye and told her she had gone. Kathy says that isn't what she said, Lauren had thought she'd gone, and Kathy didn't correct her.
KATHY: You were lying in that bed after that horrible labour. You were drifting in and out of consciousness and when you woke up and you didn't hear her crying because they had taken her away because she wasn't breathing. And then you looked up at me and you assumed she was stillborn.
LAUREN: And you didn't correct me? (Crying) That was the worst moment of my life, the worst, and you lied to me! How could you do that?
KATHY: You were so young, you had your whole life ahead of you, we'd talked about adoption...
LAUREN: And I told you I couldn't go through with that. (Lauren stands up and walks into the kitchen, Kathy follows).
KATHY: Yes I know that! You were struggling with the idea but I thought you would be grateful!
LAUREN: Grateful?! That was my choice to make mum, not yours!
KATHY: If you had left the hospital then and there, your future would have been decided for you. You would have been a single mother with a small child tied to you. Brad had moved on, he'd married Beth and you were too young to take that responsibility!
LAUREN: Who are you to decide that for me?
KATHY: Because I'm your mother, and I was trying to protect you and I wanted better for you, and I wanted better for your baby!
LAUREN: You planned the whole thing?!
KATHY: I lined up an opportunity and I was going to tell you after the baby was born but you kept making this assumption.
LAUREN: Stop saying that as if that makes this all okay!
KATHY: I'm trying to tell you how it happened!
LAUREN: Where is she? What happened to her?
KATHY: The doctor was a friend of a friend and I said that we wanted the child adopted but quietly and he said he knew of a couple and they were desperate to have a child.
LAUREN: The town that you took me to, that's the reason you wanted me to give birth in the doctor's private surgery, not in the hospital. So I was lying there crying my, my eyes out, my little girl was alive and you knew it!
KATHY: It was a mistake. I've lived with it every day of my...
LAUREN: YOU HAD TO LIVE WITH IT!?
Lauren turns her back to Kathy and starts crying. Kathy comes up behind her to comfort her, saying she's sorry. Lauren recoils and shouts to Kathy 'don't touch me!' Lauren runs outside crying.
Number 32 Back Yard
Lauren sits outside, still reeling from the news. Kathy comes out to try and explain. Lauren asks how Kathy can justify what she did. Kathy says she tried to make it right, she tried to go back and find her when she saw how much Lauren was hurting. When she got there the doctor had died and she didn't even know the couple. It was so unofficial that there was no way of finding her. She hates herself for what she's done, but she knows the baby was being loved by good people, that she was being cared for. Lauren asks how she knows, but Kathy assures Lauren she knows she's had a wonderful life
LAUREN: No! It should have been me, mum! Don't you get it?! (Lauren closes her hands into fists. Kathy holds them in her hands)
KATHY: I wanted to tell you this for so many years but I never had the courage.
LAUREN: Tell me one thing, if I wasn't going to tell Matt, would you still have come down here and told me?
KATHY: Yes, yes. You had to know the truth.
LAUREN: This is twenty years too late mum! Its twenty years too late for me!
Lauren angrily pushes Kathy away and walks off, Kathy starts crying.
Ramsay Street
Lauren leaves the garden and walks along her driveway. She looks across the road at Brad's house and breaks down in tears, sobbing, unable to come to terms with this news.
Erinsborough Hospital
Georgia sits down beside Brad. She asks if Josh is in for his MRI. Brad says he wants to stick around for moral support. Brad explains that Josh isn't doing great, but he's getting on with it, you know how it is. Georgia does know. Brad apologises, he doesn't know what it must be like to lose a child. Georgia thanks him, when a panicked mother, Billie, enters with her baby. Georgia rushes to assist. The baby has a rash all over his tummy. Karl offers to help with this, but Georgia says that Karl has a patient, and she's happy to check the baby out. Georgia guide Billie to a room, and says she'll join her in a minute. Karl tells Georgia she doesn't have to do this, but Georgia says it's okay. She'll have to see babies all the time, she'll be fine.
Number 30
Bailey explains to Callum that Lou and Kathy's falling out was just a stupid misunderstanding at his mum and dad's wedding.
CALLUM: And because of that, they've been fighting for 20 years? Man, old people are weird!
Bailey is pleased that things are okay at home again. Callum says since Bailey's managed to fix things between his grandparents, maybe he could help sort things out between them and the Josie's. Bailey says they aren't fighting, but Callum says they're not happy with them which is kind of worse. Neither Josie has responded to their texts. They decide to come up with a plan to fix things, but neither of them can think of anything.
Number 32
Matt greets Kathy. He says Lauren had told him that she's made a surprise visit, and he's heard about the presents, she's spoiling the kids again. He asks if Lauren is here, Kathy says she's gone for a walk. Lauren walks in the door. Matt asks if she's okay, and wonders if she and Kathy have had a 'blue or something.' Lauren takes Matt outside to talk to him.
Number 32 Back Yard
We see Lauren telling Matt what has happened, though we don't hear the conversation. Lauren looks upset as she tells the story, and a look of shock overcomes Matt's face as he hears the news. Lauren asks him to say something. He asks her who the father is, she admits it was Brad and he looks angry.
(Later)
Matt is standing, looking towards the pool. Lauren asks him to not hate her. Matt turns to face her, and says this could explain a hell of a lot. Maybe she hasn't been having feelings for Brad, and maybe this whole time, this is what it has been about. Lauren nods, and they both smile. Matt says it's something, and he feels like an idiot for flying off the handle all those times, about the dream and the sketch. Matt sits down with Lauren, and touches Lauren's leg reassuringly. He wishes she'd explained it to him; he could have been there for her and supported her. Lauren should have told him, but it was too painful and she just wanted to forget. The longer she left it, the easier it got. Lauren doesn't know how to feel now, she just feels numb. Her whole world has been turned upside down and everything has changed. Matt says he's still here. Lauren says she loves him, and they kiss.
Lou walks in, jokingly telling them to get a room. He starts planning a barbecue, while Matt and Lauren smile at each other. They then turn around to tell Lou.
Number 32
Lou sits down with Kathy, furious with her, wondering how she could do this. Lou says it all makes sense now, all the presents for the kids, they're not for them. It's to make herself feel better.
KATHY: I love those kids!
LOU: Nothing you say or do can excuse what you've done, nothing!
KATHY: You weren't there. You didn't see what she went through giving birth, she was scared and upset...
LOU: Of course I didn't because I didn't even know she was pregnant. You told me she had glandular fever! Why didn't you tell me Kath? I could have helped.
KATHY: You weren't there
LOU: I wasn't on the damn moon either, this was our first grandchild! No, you kept me out of the loop because you knew I'd have put a stop to your plan.
KATHY: That's not true
LOU: If I'd been in your position I would have told you. I couldn't keep a thing like that from you.
KATHY: It wasn't my decision. It was Lauren's.
LOU: Lauren?
KATHY: Do the maths Lou. She was pregnant months before she left here. She didn't want you to know.
Number 32 Back Yard
Lou is sitting thinking, when Bailey arrives asking where everyone is. He asks if everything is okay. He just had a strange phone call with nana, she said she loves him but she also said she wanted him to stay away. Bailey asks if they've been fighting again, because he thought they'd cleared it all up. Lou puts on a smile and says it'll be fine, he shouldn't worry about it. Callum arrives with his phone, asking Bailey to look. Lou leaves them alone, as Callum points out Josie's facebook profile. The two Josie's are now Facebook friends, and they read her latest tweet. 'Gelato and movie with @josiemac97 #lifeisgood.' Bailey's shocked that they didn't invite them, they've ditched them.
CALLUM: You know what, stuff them. We don't need girls to have a good time. We've got Dragon Prophecies.
BAILEY: Yeah
Both look unconvinced by that.
Number 30
Callum and Bailey are sitting while Callum is playing Dragon Prophecies. Callum asks if Bailey wants a turn, but he says he's fine. Callum says this is fun, Bailey wonders if it would be more fun to hang out with the Josie's, but neither admit they would enjoy that more. They both get texts at the same time and they grab for their phones. It's from the two Josie's asking them to hang out. Callum says it's a bit late, they don't need girls to have fun. Bailey agrees, but after a moment both run to the door.
Erinsborough Hospital
Georgia greets Susan who is waiting for Karl. She tells her that Karl won't be long, he's finishing up with a patient. Susan says she wasn't expecting to see Georgia back at work so soon. She's trying to keep busy, she's feeling up and down but is doing okay. Georgia says she treated a baby earlier who was just suffering a minor allergy but he's okay now. Susan says it must have been confronting, Georgia says it was hard at first but she's glad she did it. Susan says she doesn't have to push herself, it's important to take time to get over something like this. Georgia says she's okay, it feels like the right thing to do. Susan asks if she's seen Kyle, she hopes he is okay. Georgia says the last time she saw him she told him that staying shut up at home isn't doing him any good. Susan says it might help if he was able to talk to her about it. Georgia angrily says she has enough going on, Kyle wanted the ceremony and that is fine, but she can't give him anymore. She storms off.
Harold's
Lou gives Sheila a coffee, but she tells him she ordered a peppermint tea. Lou tries to argue with her.
SHEILA: I can't drink that! I'd be awake all night!
LOU: All bats are nocturnal.
SHEILA: I will take what I ordered, thank you. Someone is extremely tense this afternoon, not going so well living with the ex again, hey?
LOU: None of your damn business.
SHEILA: Oh, that good, huh?
LOU: You are a stickybeak.
SHEILA: Manners, Colonel Sanders
LOU: Why else would you be in here?
SHEILA: Because I wanted to see your gorgeous happy smiling face but you know what, forget it. I'm not in the mood to give you my hard earned cash anymore.
Sheila starts to leave, bumping into Brad on the way out.
SHEILA: If you're looking for service with a smile, he ain't it!
Sheila leaves. Brad tries to make conversation with Lou. Lou doesn't answer, takes Brad's order and cash. Brad asks if everything is alright, to which Lou coldly responds that he's busy. Brad looks concerned.
Number 32
Matt and Lauren sit together on the couch. Matt says that Lauren's doctor must have known that Mason wasn't her first child. She knew, but Lauren had asked her not to say anything to Matt. Matt says it explains why Lauren was so worried that something would go wrong. Lauren kept thinking she might lose another baby, she couldn't bare it if she did. They're lucky that Mason ended up so healthy and strong, but Lauren admits she couldn't help feeling overprotective. Matt wonders what they do now. They'll have to tell the kids. Lauren says she'd like to tell Brad first, he should know before anyone else. Matt seems a little taken aback, but agrees, and says the sooner the better. Lauren says she'll go now. Matt offers to go with her for moral support, but Lauren would like to do it alone.
Number 22
Brad invites Lauren in, asking if she's okay as she sounded tense on the phone. Lauren asks if anyone is home, and Brad worriedly asks if something has happened. Lauren sits down, and says something did happen a long time ago. Brad sits down too.
LAUREN: All those years ago when I left Ramsay Street and went up to mums... I was pregnant. I had a baby... a little girl... our little girl. You're the father.
Brad looks shocked.
