Harold's - outside
Callum and Josie are at a table when Amber and Josh arrive. Josie wants a photograph with Josh to prove that her boyfriend lives opposite THE Josh Willis. Amber rolls her eyes, and when Cal and Josie have gone, asks Josh about it. He says it's about building a profile, and she suggests holding off until after the trials. Ruby saunters over, and they discuss his first shoots for the "glossies". Amber thought it was for the West Waratah Star, but Ruby is aiming high.
AMBER: Yeah, he did kind of look like an Academy Awards statue.
Ruby tells him he looked amazing, and she's got more news...
It's a car, because he's endorsing their brand.
RUBY: You have to be seen driving it.
AMBER: Yeah, well, that's gonna be a bit hard.
Josh doesn't have his licence. Ruby doesn't let that worry her, and wants to take them for a spin. Amber reminds Josh he has training. He says he can go later.
Meanwhile, Kate is leaving no 26 as Chris arrives home. He asks what she's doing, and she explains she and Kyle had just been for a run - it was fun. She backtracks.
KATE: What am I thinking? Kyle and I can't be friends. Not in this lifetime anyway, It's just too hard.
Jacob tells Sonya he's given up his job since he can't find a place for Elliot since his leave finished. She thinks there must be work for electricians - which he says not with a baby - so she suggests teaching at TAFE, which has daycare. Georgia comes in, telling Susan on the phone that she's fine. She asks Jacob how Elliot is. He says fine, and he's about to feed him. Sonya has an idea about work, and dashes off, and Georgia takes her seat.
Sonya tells Toadie that she thinks she can finance the juice bar she wanted to put in the juice bar. Callum is enthusiastic, as he hopes staff will get freebies. She wants to do it straightaway.
SONYA: And you know, Jacob could really use the work.
Toadie thinks they should get more quotes, but Sonya points out Jacob isn't going to rip them off. Toadie says they've got to man it, and straightaway he's got a volunteer in Josie. That's it then.
Terese isn't in this episode is working late, and Brad is at home with Imogen. She tells him that Josh is probably out in his new car - which her dad knows nothing about. She says that all athletes get perks, but he says that Josh isn't there yet.
BRAD: If this is his idea of rebelling, he's picked the worst time to do it.
Georgia is feeding Elliot. She tells Jacob that it's her second failed engagement. Jacob finds that difficult to believe. Hmmm. He says she's a natural with Elliot, and she says she loves babies.
JACOB: Being a single parent is not... Well, let's just say I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Kyle comes in and Jacob glances over at him, which makes Georgia look round. Jacob offers to make it look like they're having a good time. Georgia says no. She gives Elliot back to his dad, and flounces out. Kyle looks fed up.
It's night time, and Kate comes in to get some stuff. Sheila's in bed and Chris is out, so there's just Kyle. They agree that it was awkward earlier. Kyle says he tried to explain it, but it looks like they're not talking. Kate apologises, but Kyle assures her it's not her fault, and he invites her to watch a DVD. She says she has to stuff envelopes for Paul's campaign, and it doesn't take much persuasion to change her mind.
Imogen asks Amber where Josh is: he's out with his sponsors. Amber says she didn't go because she was working. She tells Imogen that she always respected Josh's focus, but it's gone beyond that and he's buying into the hype.
Kate and Kyle are watching a cooking show. (It sounds like the Great British Bake Off, only not British obviously.) They have a contestant who sucks up to the judges - Kate reckons he won't get very far. Well, maybe not. Did she watch the last series of GBBO?
Imogen tells Brad that Amber said Josh was in a restaurant somewhere. Brad is annoyed because Amber is supposed to know how important swimming is to Josh. Imogen tells him that Amber told her, but she's at work. She suggest Brad should try Ruby, but he's not impressed at having to go through Ruby. Imogen says Josh knows what he has to do to win, so Brad asks why he isn't doing it. She can't answer.
Josh sneaks in, disturbing Brad who is dozing downstairs. Josh claims he "had to go" to the party. Brad asks if was Ruby, since before she came along, all he cared about was his performance. Now it's just his profile.
BRAD: You think the selectors are going to hand you a spot on the team because you're endorsing watches?
Josh says no, but says he couldn't not go as they'd given him a car. Brad says he has to put training first. He says he's known pro-surfers who've got caught up in the party scene, and spend less time in the water, so their ranking slips.
BRAD: Before they know it, they're a has-been who never was.
Josh tells him if coaching doesn't work out, he can always do motivational speaking. Brad is annoyed that Josh isn't taking it seriously, and Josh doesn't like being compared to a dumb surfer.
BRAD: Yeah, because you're acting like one.
JOSH: You'd know, wouldn't you?
Brad tells him to go to bed, and Josh sarcastically asks him if he's sure he hasn't got anything else to say about his priorities. Brad says he's made that abundantly clear.
Kyle and Kate are asleep on the sofa, with the TV still on. Chris comes out of his room and groans when he sees them. He switches the TV off and heads into the kitchen. Kate wakes up and tells him it wasn't what it looked like. He says they were asleep when he got home. He thought they might wake up, but... He decides to go for breakfast at Harold's. She insists they just fell asleep and he glares at her. Kyle wakes up, and asks Kate if she wants breakfast. Initially she says no, because she has to meet Paul for some election campaigning, but then she agrees to have an omelette.
Jacob is moving stuff around for Sonya. Josie reckons he's hot, which doesn't please Callum. She asks if he's noticed the way Jacob looks at Sonya.
JOSIE: He likes her.
CALLUM: Yeah. They're friends.
JOSIE: No, I mean LIKES her.
Callum is annoyed, saying his mum hired him because it was a nice thing to do, and Josie is turning it into something gross.
JOSIE: I'm not saying they're having an affair. It's just... a crush. Probably completely one-sided.
JOSIE: Why are you going off?
CALLUM: Because everything coming out of your mouth is stupid.
JOSIE: You called me stupid?
She wants him to apologise or she'll go, but he won't, so she goes.
Georgia is on her way home just as Kate is leaving No 26. A bare-chested Kyle comes out to tell her she's forgotten her keys. An unhappy Georgia watches them as they chat happily.
Brad and Josh discuss his unsatisfactory session. Brad tells him to have a coffee and come back when he's awake. Ruby turns up and asks if he's ready for breakfast with another of his sponsors. Josh tells her to cancel it and Brad tells her that any commitments have to go through him. Ruby asks Josh if he agrees, and he asks to talk to Brad in private. Brad tells Josh he wants him to be the best swimmer he can be. Ruby sees money, and he asks if Ruby has asked for a fee. Josh reckons having a manager is good for both of them, and that his father resents him listening to anyone else.
BRAD: I give up. If you're not going to listen to my advice, find someone else to coach you, alright? I'm out.
