He jogs off again, and Josie turns up shes training for the fun run too. Sonya observes that shes surprised Josies training after their aerobics class earlier; Josie says its the endorphins, and suggests they try to get Callum interested in the gym too. Josie says shell pop round later to try to convince him, but Sonya doesnt think its likely to work although she agrees it would be fun if they told Cal theyd entered him in the fun run. Josie dashes off again, promising to come round later; Sonya shouts after her to slow down.
Rhiannon tells Sheila about her new job at Lassiters, but Sheilas disappointed that shes taking Pauls dollar under false pretences saying she was supposed to be here to testify against Paul, not to negotiate a pay- off.
RHIANNON: Its not a pay- off. Its a real gig, with real prospects.
SHEILA: I don't think youre looking at the bigger picture. You have sold out to get it.
Rhiannon asks Sheila to be happy for her, but its clear Sheila will do no such thing. And when Rhiannon suggests she could stay at No 26 again, Sheila makes it clear shes not welcome. Rhiannon looks hurt and walks out.
Chriss latest one- night stand, Miguel, has come back to collect his jacket, having left it last night. But Miguel clearly wants more from Chris, and suggests leaving his jacket there again! Mason arrives to find Rhiannon having tea with Lauren and Lou. She runs up and gives him a hug, explaining that shes got herself a job at Lassiters. She says her son Jackson will be moving to Erinsborough too. Lauren asks how Rhiannon can work for Paul when shes supposed to be helping Matt to bring him down; Rhiannon explains thats no longer happening, but says shell pay Matt back for the travel costs from Mount Isa, that he paid to get her here. Lauren expresses her concern about Rhiannon working for Paul nonetheless, but Rhiannon says itll be fine and tells a worried Mason to stop stressing. She runs off to organise things.
Callum and Bailey are playing a computer game, while Sonya looks after Nell. Josie turns up shes all dressed up, but Cal is so engrossed in his game that he barely notices her, only speaking to her to ask if she knows a cheat code for the game theyre playing. Josie looks sad, as they continue to ignore her.
Sheila moans to Lou about the youth of today.
SHEILA: Theres Rhiannon, having signed a deal with the Devil, and I've got Chris, with Hudsons letter burning a hole in his pocket, and all he can think about is meaningless flings.
LOU: Yeah, well Chris is carrying a badly bruised heart.
SHEILA: Oh, thanks so much for that heads- up, Doctor Spock.
LOU: All I'm saying is, hes not receptive to much of anything.
SHEILA: Oh, hes receptive alright! But just not to the things he should be!
Lou tells Sheila to leave Chris alone; sometimes young people have to make mistakes. But Sheila insists that deep down they want you to step in, and show that you care.
Callum and Bailey continue to play, while Josie sits watching glumly. Sonya offers her food, and they go to the kitchen. Sonya comments on Josies glamorous outfit, then starts probing her about how long shes been running for Josie insists its just because of the fun run. Clearly concerned but trying to make out shes not, Sonya asks how many training sessions Josies been doing; she says shes been doing some every day. Sonya asks if she needs a training partner, but Josie says she doesnt.
Sonya stops Cal and Bailey playing their game, and they all sit down for afternoon tea. However, as Cal continues to ignore Josie, she fiddles unenthusiastically with the food on her plate, and doesnt eat any of it. Sonya looks worried.
Later, Cal and Bailey go back to playing the game, and Josie transfers some of the food shes left onto another plate, to cover for the fact she hasnt eaten it. However, Sonya has seen her, and starts prying further. She compliments Josie on her new look again, trying to make it obvious that shes noticed; but says shes also noticed how much exercise shes been doing, and asks if all this extra effort is to impress a boy.
JOSIE: I know he doesnt like me like that. But he might one day.
SONYA: Okay. But in the meantime, what are you doing for yourself?
JOSIE: What do you mean?
SONYA: You see, all this effort youre going to all this reshaping you know, you don't have to change for anyone.
JOSIE: I know.
SONYA: Do you? Do you know how wonderful who you are? You know, one day theres gonna be someone who likes you for exactly who you are.
Josie says she gets it, but is clearly uncomfortable, and makes an excuse to leave right away. Sonya is worried.
Rhiannon joins Karl at a table, whos still feeling sorry for himself about his ankle. She asks after his band, and he explains Ajay has left so hes without a drummer. Rhiannon says she knows an easy- going drummer whos moving from interstate, and who might be a perfect fit. She says he needs a room to rent, and suggests Karl could come to some kind of arrangement with him. Karl says it would be worth discussing, and Rhiannon promises to call the drummer and mention it.
Paul comes in.
SHEILA: Oh, a side of arsenic as well, sir?
She proceeds to lay into Paul about what hes up to offering Rhiannon a job. Sheila points out that Rhiannons still a very vulnerable person, and doesnt need to be messed about by Paul. He replies that hes just trying to help Rhiannon, but Sheila doesnt buy it for a minute telling him shes going to make sure he honours his promises to Rhiannon.
With Bailey gone, Sonya decides its time to have a word with Callum about Josie. She warns him that Josie may still have feelings for him, and that she might be trying to change herself into what she thinks Cal wants her to be. Cal points out that Josie said she was fine, but Sonya tells him she was lying.
CALLUM: Well, can't there be a decoder ring or something for this kind of stuff?
Sonya tells Cal he needs to be careful with Josie. They can still be friends, but Cal needs to be clear with her, and not let her get the wrong idea about anything. Cal insists he understands, but quickly goes back to his video game as the conversation ends.
Chris is looking forlornly at the unopened letter from Hudson when Sheila comes in, so he hides it. She immediately asks him if hes read the letter, and he lies and says he has, and that its given him some closure. He gets up to leave, but Sheila spots the still sealed envelope and calls his bluff. She insists it would be better for him to read the letter, but Chris tells her to back off, and storms out to go to work. Once hes gone, she puts her finger on the letter from Hudson, and looks pensive.
Lauren is rolling pastry when Lou comes in. He has some news for her he wants to spend more time with Lolly after she visited recently, and says hes going to go and be there for her for a while. Lou says it was so rewarding to see Mai Ling earlier in the year, that now he wants to do the same with Lolly. Lauren encourages Lou to go and stay with Lolly for as long as he wants, and they hug.
Waiting to meet Josie, Callum repeats Sonyas advice to himself, about giving her no wrong ideas but looks fairly nonplussed about it. When Josie arrives, Cal tells her hes noticed shes been different lately. Hes ordered her a milkshake, but she turns it down, and asks him if there was anything in particular hed noticed was different.
CALLUM (confused): Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
JOSIE: Maybe my new clothes?
JOSIE: And I'm wearing make- up now, and doing my hair differently.
CALLUM: Yep, theyre both awesome!
JOSIE: Thats so nice of you to say.
CALLUM: No problem.
JOSIE: Youve probably seen I'm getting a bit thinner?
JOSIE: What? You don't think I look good?
CALLUM: Are you kidding? You look great! You know, whatever youre doing its awesome, okay? Keep it up.
Josie looks thrilled now Cals told her what she wanted to hear
Lassiters Lake / No 30
and then she goes straight back to training for the fun run, scenes of which are interspersed with dialogue back at No 30, where Sonya asks Callum how Josie was when they met. He says she was great.
SONYA: She didnt seem that great when she left here.
CALLUM: Thats just because she hadnt spoken to me yet. And I rock.
SONYA: Alright, can you just tell me what happened?
CALLUM: We met. We talked. She went away smiling.
Sonya demands to know exactly what Cal said to Josie.
CALLUM: I said to her that she is fine just the way she is.
He insists the situations under control, and is about to go back to playing video games but Sonya snatches the controller, saying hes had enough for today. Luckily he has a backup down the sofa, which he retrieves when shes gone!
In the park, Josie looks gradually more exhausted from her arduous training
Evening, and Chris is finishing up at work, when Miguel turns up bearing flowers!
MIGUEL: I don't know if youre a flowers kind of guy. But I was gonna be in the area, so I thought
MIGUEL: I had a really great time with you.
CHRIS: Yeah the boss doesnt really like strangers in the workplace.
MIGUEL: Then maybe we could go somewhere a bit nicer?
CHRIS: You should have called.
MIGUEL: Well I'm here now, so
Chris tells Miguel hes got the wrong idea it was only ever going to be a bit of fun between them.
CHRIS: Need directions? Theres the door.
Miguel leaves; and having trampled on the poor guys heart, Chris feels rotten.
The next morning, Chris arrives at work again, to find that all the cars outside the garage have been scratched up. He then sees Miguels flowers, trampled into the ground, and looks worried.
