- Sonya says she'll support Lucas, but he'll have to give Vanessa some time.
- Vanessa's ex, Alec, says he didn't file their annulment papers and they are still married.
Vanessa can't believe he didn't file their annulment. He says his family was old fashioned. His Gyish hated the idea of their marriage ending and an annulment would have brought shame to the family. Vanessa says the real reason is he couldn't be bothered to get it annulled, and she wouldn't be surprised if it was a tax scam. He tells her that he loves her, and he's here to set things right again.
Vanessa is looking at her engagement ring when she gets a phone call from Lucas. She rejects the call. Lauren comes in and tells Vanessa to cheer up, this time tomorrow the auction will be over. Vanessa asks if she can finish work early. She makes a phone call to someone, and asks the person when they want to meet?
Meanwhile, Lou and Mason are eating and Mason keeps checking his phone, looking at the photos of him and Kate. They hear Amber reading another clue on the radio, and Lou asks for Vanessa to turn the volume up to hear. The clue reads ‘Sort the treasure from the trash, to get your hands upon the cash!' Lou asks Mason what he thinks. Mason says that he got the looks and Bailey got the brains. Paul arrives and asks why Mason isn't in Sydney with Kate. Mason lies that he couldn't go because of important family stuff.
Paul tells Lauren that he's happy for her to keep renting #32 when he becomes the owner at the auction tomorrow. Lauren says Matt isn't comfortable renting from him.
PAUL: I guess you'll just have to find somewhere else to live. Enjoy your one hourly commute.
As Paul leaves, Lou asks Mason why he didn't tell ‘Gordon Gecko' that he and Kate broke up. Mason is worried that when he finds out, Paul will fire him. Lauren tells Mason to get ready for work.
Lucas buys Toadie a beer. Lucas says he's doing everything he can to find Marty, but Toadie thinks he'll be long gone by now. Toadie asks if Vanessa has forgiven him, but Lucas tells him that she's postponed the wedding. Toadie thinks postponed is better than cancelled.
Mason is back, dressed in his work uniform now, and bumps into Georgia. He finds out that Georgia spoke to Kate last night. He tells Georgia he moved things too fast with Kate, and wonders if he could show her that he's learned from that, and if Kate would take him back if he changed. Georgia tells him not to get his hopes up. Mason says he won't give up on her, so Georgia tells him to talk to Kate.
Vanessa meets Alec, she wants him to say what he needs to say and she'll go. Alec suggests they go for a meal, but she doesn't want to be seen, so he suggests his hotel room. They have so many years to catch up on.
Chris asks Lucas if he can take Hudson to the wedding as his ‘Plus 1'. Lucas is a bit quiet about it, but says that it'll be no problem, and things must be going well between the two of them. They spot Vanessa with Alec and wonder who he is. As Vanessa and Alec walk into Lassiters, Lucas rushes after them.
Mason greets Vanessa and Alec as they head to the lift. As they step in the lift, Alec smiles.
ALEC: Oh dear. I hope we haven't caused a local scandal.
Lucas runs in and asks Mason if he saw Vanessa. He says that he's running late for their meeting and Vanessa forgot to give them the room number. Mason says he can't give out that information. Mason checks and says Mr Pocoli's number is room 613. Lucas nods, knowing who Alec Pocoli is.
Alec's Hotel Room
Alec has just told Vanessa why he's here. She says it makes things complicated, especially because of Lucas. Lucas knocks at the door, asking for Vanessa. Lucas comes in and asks what is going on. He knows who Alec is. Alec admits he and Vanessa are still married. Lucas accuses Vanessa of calling him, and then angrily tells Alec that Vanessa is his fiancé and she's pregnant. Vanessa tells Lucas to leave as she and Alec have things to discuss. Lucas leaves.
Mason brings Paul a coffee. Paul asks if Mason and Kate have any engagement plans on the horizon. From Paul's grin, Mason realises that Paul's already spoken to her. Mason tells Paul that he didn't say anything about the breakup as he didn't want to ruin his position at Lassiter's. Paul says the only thing that would do that would be not playing ball when it comes to Marty, and he's crossed the line by speaking to the police. Mason asks when Kate is coming back. Paul says she'll be staying longer as she's looking after Sophie who has the chicken pox. Mason thinks that is an excuse so she doesn't have to see her. Mason wonders if she's going to see Mark Brennan while she's in Sydney.
PAUL: She hasn't said anything, but it would make sense. Come to think about it, Sophie's already had the chicken pox. Kate's moved on, you should too.
Alec's Hotel Room
Vanessa's told Alec about Lucas's gambling problem. Alec doesn't blame Lucas for wanting to protect her, especially since she has a baby on the way. He says she must be a great mother, she's nurturing and caring. He was too young to appreciate those qualities. She says that he's changed. He admits he used to be obsessed with making money any way he could, but now he's realised what is important. Vanessa thinks she should go. He wants her to seriously consider his proposal. She has another child on the way, and this is about their future too.
Toadie's surprised that Vanessa is still married to her ex, and wonders what Lucas will do about it. He offers to try and speak to Vanessa. Lucas thinks she's considering going back to Alec now that she's found out the truth about Lucas's gambling. Lucas spots Alec across the bar and points him out to Toadie.
TOADIE: Wow, he's good looking. Sorry.
Sheila serves Alec.
SHEILA: I wondered if you'd fancy something vintage, which is full bodied and fruity.
Alec laughs and says that it sounds perfect. Lucas walks over to Alec and asks if Vanessa called him and asked him to come to Erinsborough. Alec says he's not leaving until he gets what he came for, and Lucas will have to ask Vanessa to find out what that is.
LUCAS: Vanessa deserves the best.
ALEC: Is that you Lucas? Don't get me wrong, we all make mistake. Letting her go was the most stupid thing I ever did. But can you honestly tell me you're the one to make her happy?
Chris and Kyle enter, Chris says that something is not right with Lucas and wonders what they do. Kyle says they should do nothing. They'll be there for him if Lucas needs them. They spot Mason, sitting on his own, looking gloomy. They tell Mason that they've heard about Kate and they're sorry. Mason asks them, since they live with Kate, if they've seen or heard anything to do with Mark Brennan. He's worried he's the reason she's staying longer in Sydney. Kyle says Kate got over Brennan ages ago and he shouldn't worry about it. Mason says he wants to get Kate back, and Kyle encourages him to go for it.
Chris takes Kyle aside and asks why he's giving Mason false hope. Chris thinks this is about Kyle not wanting Kate to be single, as if she's in a relationship he will feel less guilty about what happened between him and Kate. Kyle says Chris is way off.
Lucas and Vanessa's Flat
Toadie visits Vanessa, who was expecting Lucas. She says he's not answering his phone. Toadie says that Lucas needs to know where he stands.
VANESSA: He's the one who gambled with his family's future, how am I supposed to forgive him for that?
TOADIE: I can't answer that. What I can tell you is how I cope with living with an addict. It's horrible, it's always there in the back of your mind, are they going to relapse? But you have to treat it like the disease that it is. It's something that I didn't cause, I can't cure, I can't control. It's just something that I have to be prepared to live with because it's part of Sonya, and I love her. And as long as she's willing to fight that battle then I'm willing to stand by her side.
Toadie says that there's nothing Lucas wouldn't do for her, and Vanessa should ask herself what she would do for Lucas. Does she love him enough to stand by him? Toadie says she needs to think seriously about this as it affects the rest of her life. He hugs her and tells her to call him if she needs him. Vanessa thanks him. After Toadie leaves, Vanessa picks up the phone and calls Alec. She says they should get this done, the sooner the better.
Lucas enters the kitchen. Lauren and Lou ask if Lucas is okay, Lucas admits he slept at the yard last night. He gets a phonecall from Vanessa and cancels it. Paul walks in, saying he spoke to the auctioneer outside and he seems to be the only serious bidder.
LOU: Anyone else suddenly smell sulphur?
PAUL: That would be the dementia kicking in old boy.
Paul asks if Lauren has decided on where she will live. There are some good places out in the country. Lou hopes Paul offers a fair price, but Paul says he'll pay whatever the market dictates.
Georgia, Kyle, Lou and Paul watch the bidding, as a woman starts to make bids on the house. Paul isn't concerned, he saw the car that woman came in and she'll be lucky if she can afford the petrol for it. Paul ups the bid to $640,000 and the competitor drops out. Gary, the auctioneer, walks over to Lucas and Lauren, asking if he wants to go for it as it is below his reserve. Gary asks for a final call for bidders, when Vanessa drives up and asks to stop the auction. Paul says he's won.
LOU: Didn't get to the final call, so it doesn't count, Scrooge, haha!
Lucas asks Vanessa what is going on. She says he needs to hear this, in private.
