Previously on Neighbours
- Rani telling Callum to read the new script.
- Lauren trying to persuade Matt that they should buy Harold's.
- Callum ripping up the new script.
- Terese sussing out information from Caroline.
- Callum reading the new script which is basically an apology from Rani for what happened.
Ajay stops by to give Rani some flowers before the play starts to wish her luck… and she reminds him that is unlucky and it should be ‘to break a leg' which he quickly says! Rani asks Sonya if Cal read the scene, he did and she adds that he isn't coming to watch. Just at that, Cal arrives to appear in the play so its panic stations to get things organised before curtains up.
Terese isn't amused to find the reception unmanned and Caroline sitting outside sending texts. She dishes out a serve to the employee and follows it up by informing Caroline that she is on notice – one more mistake and her contract will be terminated.
Matt is feeling guilty at missing the play as he has to work (and felt he couldn't ask for time off following his demotion). He is also down in the dumps because his demotion has meant that they were knocked back for a loan to buy a house… but Lauren reminds him that they could buy Harold's instead, but her hopes are again dashed when he makes it clear that he'd rather they bought bricks and mortar.
The play is ongoing and we get to the scene where Raj (Bailey) kisses Rani witnessed by Sanjay (Callum) which is basically a re- run of what has happened in real life. When Rani asks Sanjay what she can do, his reply is nothing, it's over.
We finally get to see the new look Harold's but other than a change in wall colour (now blue), a sofa added in the corner and the backs of the chairs painted, there doesn't appear at first glance to be that much of a change in the place!
Lucas and Matt watch as Paul and a couple of other randoms, survey the place and discover that he is planning on buying it from Lyn. Paul takes great delight in winding Matt up over it, by insinuating that Lauren working in the store has allowed her kids to become criminals!
Paul spots Caroline sipping a glass of wine when he comes in to hand something to Sheila. She bemoans to him what Terese has done to her and asks for his help since he is Terese's boss. Paul doesn't want to get involved but she reminds him about being willing to lie in court and feels that he owes her. Putting his hand on her thigh, he replies that he will take care of everything and for her not to worry. He then hands her some cash to have a few more drinks on her, promising to take care of Terese.
Sheila has been watching the pair of them and isn't impressed!
Rani tells Raj that she wants to be with Sanjay. Sanjay accepts her apology and wants to be with her but pulls out of the kiss, favouring a hug instead.
Here endeth (thankfully) the play and the audience, including GhostyPriya™ show their appreciation.
Matt finds out how the play went when he arrives home. He then tells Lauren about the call he made to Lyn – she's willing to take a very reasonable offer for the store (due to Steph's legal bills being high) and Lauren twigs that they have bought the store. She is thrilled he's changed his mind.
As they enter the bar, Vanessa is having a similar conversation with Lucas – she's trying to persuade him that they should buy Harold's but he wants to sleep on it before committing.
Ajay and Rani are having their own private celebration for the success of the play. Rani tells her dad about GhostyPriya™ appearing (tonight and previously) and he thinks that Priya probably was there. They then start chatting about where Priya could be, and he says that she's looking over them.
AJAY: She will always be with us no matter what.
Terese isn't happy at how Caroline dealt with a couple staying at the hotel (pillow issues). She then smells the alcohol on Caroline's breath (and thinks she had more than the one claimed) and uses that as the reason to terminate her employment.
TERESE: You're out of official warnings Caroline. I'm sorry.
Caroline then gathers her stuff and departs the hotel (she's got to return her uniform tomorrow and will be paid money in lieu of notice).
Back from the commercial break and Paul is livid that Caroline has been sacked and wastes no time in making his displeasure known to Terese! He wants them to give her a second chance but Terese is standing firm and warns him not to waste Lucy's time when he threatens to go to her.
Its celebration cake for the Rebecchi's and Sonya quizzes Cal on his thoughts (about Rani) and he thinks her apology is genuine but still wonders if she's keen on Bailey. “What if she stops liking me?” he asks and Sonya asks him to have some faith in her and thinks given the re- write, it should indicate to him how Rani feels about her.
Just at that, Rani arrives and Sonya/Toadie decides to have their cake outside. Cal avoids answering when she asks why he avoided the kiss, so tries the direct root – does he still like her! “Of course I do,” is his reply but then explains that he doesn't want to be second choice if she still has feelings for Bailey. She quickly reassures him that the kiss was a mistake.
CALLUM: I don't think I can trust you anymore.
RANI: What can I do?
CALLUM: There is one thing.
RANI: I'll do it.
CALLUM: You're not going to like it.
RANI: I don't care.
CALLUM: I want you to think about this, properly.
RANI: What is it?
CALLUM: We can get back together but you can't talk to Bailey… ever.
Harold's Store (next day)
Vanessa wants to call Lyn to buy the store but Lucas wants them to call the accountant first. They are both bemused when Paul comes in asking if it was them and for them to name their price. “We don't own Harold's,” they reply in unison and the three of them then discover that its Lauren/Matt who have bought Harold's and reject Paul asking how much they want for the place.
LAUREN: We're the new owners and we're not going anywhere.
Matt can't resist taking a photo of Paul (he was shooting some pics for Harold's website) who is deliriously happy (not)!
Bailey stands waiting for Callum/Rani and it's the first test of Cal's rules for Rani – she ignores him asking if they are still pumped about last night. She then asks Cal to be allowed to talk to Bailey, which she is, so walks forward to where he's standing.
RANI: You're a really awesome guy, really, and you were so great in the play but I can't be friends with you anymore.
BAILEY: You're dumping me as a friend?!
RANI: Don't put it like that.
BAILEY: Why not? Its true isn't it?
RANI: I guess.
RANI: I've got to put Callum first. I'm really sorry but it's how it's got to be. I'm sorry.
Bailey doesn't wait around to hear the whole of that last sentence, as he's already walked off. Cal walks up to where she is standing and asks how that was (fine) and that it's better that way. He then holds out his hand for Rani to take, and when she does, they too begin walking to school.
Toadie is very surprised to see Caroline on his doorstep and that she is after his services as a lawyer. After her stunt with Mason, he's not exactly enthusiastic about helping but does seem interested when she announces that she wants to sue Lassiters!
Paul is hassling two silent employees to run interference about Caroline's replacement when we return after the final commercial break. He then gets a visit from Toadie to inform him that he's been hired by Caroline to represent her and when Paul wants to call her, is told not to unless it's through Toadie. “This can be resolved,” Paul pleads and thinks it's just between Terese/Caroline until Toadie informs him that is he who is named in the complaint.
TOADIE: Caroline Perkins is accusing you of sexual harassment.
Paul looks absolutely gobsmacked as we head into the promo.
