Previously on Neighbours
- Georgia's in trouble when Pete gives her drugs, and Sonya finds them in her bag
- As the Amber/Cassie feud continues, Kate gives them detention and litter- picking duty
- Vanessa finds out that Steph knew about Lucas's cancer before she did
Vanessa puts a picture of Patrick by Lucas's bed – she's trying to make the hospital room more like home for him. She then explains that Dr Dollard thought Steph was Lucas's partner, because she was with him at the pre- op appointment. Lucas apologises for telling Steph before Vanessa, but says he didn't plan to; Steph caught him coming out of the hospital and in that moment it was just good to talk to someone. Vanessa seems annoyed when Lucas admits Steph thought it would be a good idea to keep it from Vanessa until Lucas had his full diagnosis, and he agreed.
LUCAS: I was just trying to do the right thing. I promise, next time I get cancer, you'll be the first to know!
VANESSA (smiling): It's not funny!
LUCAS: It's a little bit funny.
VANESSA: It's not funny enough!
LUCAS: I am sorry. Really.
Vanessa tells Sonya about Lucas keeping the cancer from her, and also explains that she found the engagement ring in his pocket. Vanessa's worried that the fact he hasn't given it to her yet means he's changed his mind about being with her since Patrick got better and Lucas got ill. Vanessa also reveals how Steph suggested keeping the cancer a secret from her. Sonya looks worried.
Amber is walking Chris home from work; she needs advice from him on the Twitter war with Cassie, which she explains has escalated into ‘World War III', resulting in her having no friends. Chris says he's her friend, and offers to take her to a romantic comedy marathon at the community centre tonight, to take her mind off it. Amber is keen.
Georgia comes over to put the bin out. Chris invites her to the rom- com- athon, but she says she has to rest up as she's returning to work, which she's happy about. Kyle comes over and suggests that Georgia should take Pete to the rom- com- athon. He hands her some misdelivered mail and it's all very awkward. Georgia makes an excuse to leave, and Kyle complains to Chris and Amber that she can't even be around him for five minutes.
Kyle tells Sheila he ran into Georgia, but that she couldn't get away from him fast enough. Surprised that Kyle is still pining after Georgia, Sheila tells him that he needs to find out for sure how she feels about him. She suggests he give her the birthday present he bought for her, as an ice- breaker. Kyle's sceptical, and Sheila asks Bossy whether she thinks Kyle should give it another go.
No 30 (back garden)
Georgia is swimming in the pool, when Pete shows up and asks if he can join her. Georgia says Toadie and Sonya aren't best pleased with Pete because of the pill they found in her bag. Pete just ignores her and jumps into the pool, before starting to splash water at her, much to her annoyance. Kyle comes round the corner, having decided to give Georgia her present after all. But seeing what he perceives to be them having fun together, Kyle declines to join them and leaves the small package on the railing. Georgia shouts after him, to no avail.
Annoyed that Pete has scared Kyle off, Georgia asks him to leave, saying she doesn't think they should be friends anymore. Pete gets out of the pool and saunters off.
Sonya visits Lucas to stick her beak in once more. She tells Lucas that Vanessa's really hurt and insecure about Steph knowing about his cancer before she did. Lucas thinks that's ridiculous, but Sonya asks him how he would feel if the roles were reversed – and he begins to understand. Sonya says Lucas needs to show Vanessa how much she means to him. When he suggests proposing to her, Sonya doesn't let on that she knows about the ring, and says if he loves Vanessa, he should go for it.
Chris and Amber talk about rom- coms, when two of Cassie's red- ribbon- wearing acolytes approach. They are Bethany and Michelle – two of Erinsborough High's ‘biggest trolls', according to Amber. From a distance, the two girls begin laughing and tweeting on their phones, so Amber logs on to her own phone to see what they're saying about her. Chris suggests Amber might be better off just ignoring them, as caring what they think gives them more power. Amber hates taking abuse and not doing anything about it.
CHRIS: Why don't we give them something to tweet about?
He kisses Amber on the cheek, as the two trolls' mouths drop open in surprise.
CHRIS: What do you say, babe?
AMBER: Sure, honey!
They walk straight past the girls, arm in arm, pretending to be a couple.
Vanessa rushes in, having been texted by Lucas asking her to come to the hospital. She's assumed he's had some medical news, but instead he sits her down.
LUCAS: Our relationship hasn't exactly been traditional. In fact it's been anything but! But we've made a beautiful son together, and my love for you gets stronger every day. As far as I'm concerned, I've found The One™. And I would be honoured to have you by my side for the rest of my life.
He gets out the ring.
LUCAS: Vanessa Villante, will you marry me?
VANESSA: Yes, yes, yes!
She jumps on him, hugging and kissing him.
Matt walks Steph out of the police station, where she's been reporting for parole. Matt asks how she's going. We learn that Steph missed a psych report last week, and Matt recommends she doesn't miss any more, as they're a condition of her release. To prove she's onto it, Steph calls the psychiatrist's office in front of Matt to make her next appointment – but as soon as he's out of earshot, she tells the person on the other end of the phone that she can't make the appointment they've offered. She says she isn't sure when she'll be free next, but will get back to them.
Sonya fills Georgia in on Lucas's proposal to Vanessa, but all the romance- talk gets Georgia down. She reveals that Kyle brought her a present round earlier, but that she hasn't dared to open it yet.
SONYA: What do you think, it's booby- trapped?
GEORGIA: Well, emotionally maybe, yeah! What if it's something really nice? Or what if it's something horrible? What if it's his way of telling me he's gay?
Sonya thinks Georgia is overthinking it. Georgia says she doesn't trust her feelings after what happened with Scotty, and contemplates giving it back. But Sonya tells her to open the box. Inside is a pair of earrings.
GEORGIA (sadly): Oh no! They're perfect!
SONYA: I'd hate to see what you'd be like if you didn't like them!
GEORGIA: What do you think this means?
Sonya says it means Kyle likes her, and that she should work out how to respond and go over there. Georgia's worried Kyle will slam the door in her face, but Sonya says she can't spend all her life worrying about being rejected.
Kyle opens the door to Georgia.
GEORGIA: Just me. But you can probably see that already.
GEORGIA: I just wanted to thank you for the earrings. They're really lovely.
KYLE: No worries.
GEORGIA: Thank you. They are lovely… I already said that, didn't I?
Georgia also explains she bought tickets for the upcoming hospital ball for her and Scotty, and says it would be a shame to waste them – so asks if Kyle would like to come with her.
KYLE: Did you just ask me out?
GEORGIA: I think so, yes.
KYLE: What about Pete?
GEORGIA: I was never interested in Pete. There's only one guy that I'm interested in.
Kyle smiles, and says he shall go to the ball.
KYLE: That would be awesome.
Georgia promises to call him with the details, and kisses him on the cheek, before leaving.
Vanessa turns up to show off her new engagement ring to Sonya, but they both know she already knew Lucas would propose. They hug delightedly, and Sonya insists her only involvement was to fetch the ring from their apartment!
Chris and Amber come in, fresh from the rom- com- athon. Vanessa tells them the good news about Lucas's proposal, and they both hug her. All the commotion attracts Steph's attention, and Chris relays the news to her too. Steph tells Vanessa it's fantastic news, and hugs her – but Sonya carefully watches Steph's expression, discerning that she might not be so happy after all.
Amber and Chris come in.
AMBER: It was so romantic! Two star- crossed lovers, overcoming obstacles to be together.
CHRIS: You talking about the film?
AMBER: No, Vanessa and Lucas. Epic love story.
CHRIS: Ah, yes. Boy meets girl. Girl gets pregnant. Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl. Boy gets cancer. Boy still gets girl!
AMBER: Yeah. Who said love stories were unrealistic?
Amber thanks Chris for tonight; it's the best evening she's had since arriving in Erinsborough. Chris thinks they should do it again sometime, now they're officially the hottest couple in town – he reveals that they are trending on Twitter as #Chramber! Apparently, the social network is abuzz with discussion of how their ‘date' is going.
CHRIS: Well, we'd better end things properly then.
Jokingly, he takes her in his arms, rom- com style.
AMBER: Oh, Ryan! I mean, Chris.
CHRIS: Oh, Ryan! I mean Amber.
Chris kisses her on the cheek again, thanking her for a great night. Amber looks happy as he leaves.
It's party- time in Lucas's hospital room as Vanessa, Steph, Sonya and Karl gather to celebrate. Steph has brought champagne, but Vanessa points out she's still breast- feeding; and luckily, Steph's brought lemonade too. Sonya is watching Steph suspiciously, as Steph proposes a toast to ‘the happiest couple in Erinsborough'.
Later, one of Georgia's colleagues, Tina, welcomes her back to work, as her shift begins. Georgia walks into one of the examination rooms to find Pete there, back for a check- up on his arm. Georgia apologises if she gave Pete the wrong impression, but says that she's realised they have different interests.
PETE: It's cool, I get it. You needed someone to pick you up when you were down, which I did.
GEORGIA: Just keep your voice down.
PETE: And then you needed someone to make that Kyle guy jealous, which I also did.
PETE: Now you don't need me anymore, so you're just gonna toss me aside like some piece of trash?
GEORGIA: That's not what happened.
PETE: I think it is. Face it Georgia, you're a user!
Aghast at this most heinous of slurs, Georgia rushes off while Pete sits down again – but in her haste, accidentally leaves a pair of keys lying on the side…
Georgia finds Kyle agonising over what sort of tuxedo he should wear for the hospital ball, and also stressing that he might show her up in front of her workmates. Georgia insists he'll be fine. She kisses him on the cheek again, and they laugh.
Georgia comes back to work, glowing after her coffee with Kyle. Karl asks her to organise some pain relief drugs for a patient, but when she checks for her keys to the medicine cupboard, she realises she doesn't have them. Rushing back into the exam room, she finds the keys are still on the side where she left them – but that there is medication missing from the cupboard! She doesn't know how it happened, but Karl tells her she'd better find out, unless she wants to be held responsible.
