Angie is proud of Toadie for quitting.
ANGIE: I didn't bring my sons up to be doormats.
Sonya tells Angie it's between her and Toadie, and points out they can't afford the wedding. Toadie says he'll get another, more family friendly, job. Sonya wonders whether employers would be be that keen, considering how he left his previous one!
SONYA: Please call Charlotte. Unquit.
TOADIE: I'm not sure that's a word.
She tells him they'll cope if he goes to Chile. He insists he's not going.
Chris overhears Paul on the phone to some who has let him down the Lassiters fleet contract - again. Paul bumps into Amber and she drops her phone. He complains, but Sophie reckons it was equally his fault. Amber says she couldn't cope without her phone: she needs it to keep in touch with her friends from Mt Isa. The girls introduce themselves and decide to hang out.
Vanessa leaves Patrick's room and meets Lucas, who admits she had a point earlier, but the hospital isn't the best backdrop for photos.
VANESSA: He's a baby, not a supermodel.
Lucas says he feels it's hard when Patrick is so sick. Vanessa reckons that should mean they take more photos as it's such a precious time. Lucas gets a text from Chris and heads off.
Lucas is sorting the washing when Chris arrives to ask him to sign off for the following day. Lucas is put out that it wasn't urgent, but Chris says there's something else.
CHRIS: It's one of these 'grab- it- while- you- can' opportunities
Lucas says he has no time, but Chris says he can handle it, and tells Lucas what Paul said. Lucas dismisses the idea: Paul's more trouble than he's worth. Despite Chris saying he will work extra hours, Luca says he needs to be there for Vanessa, so they can't take on anything else. Chris looks frustrated.
Sonya's on the phone to Charlotte, obviously asking about Toadie's job. Angie is listening in. She tells Sonya that Toadie will soon get another job, so he doesn't her help. Sonya asks what they are going to do until then. Angie suggests they tighten their belts, and promises her recipe for sausage casserole! Sonya doesn't know how they'll pay the mortgage and reckons they'll have to cancel the wedding. Angie is aghast, but Sonya says there's no choice.
SONYA: We can't afford it.
Andrew and Tash greet Chris and ask him to join them for a trip to the city, but he says he's working. He spots Paul and goes over to ask him about the fleet detailing contract. Paul wonders why Chris would think they would get the contract. Chris says they'd like it back, and asks who else he could find at such short notice. Paul agrees, and says if they do it right they can have the contract back. Chris guarantees it will be done on time. Andrew points out it's a big job, and when Chris says Lucas isn't available, Tash tells Andrew to help.
Angie tells Toadie that Sonya is going to cancel the wedding, because she thinks they can't afford it. She gives Toadie Sonya's notebook, adding that Sonya ought to support her man's decision.
ANGIE: Enough of this hippy rubbishy New Age lot.
Angie keeps on talking while Toadie tries to read Sonya's notes. He frowns as he sees that things are worse than he thought.
Hospital - Patrick's room
Vanessa is shaking a rattle and talking to Patrick when Lucas comes in. Patrick cries, and she asks Lucas to pick him up, but he won't, asking her to do it instead.
LUCAS: You've had more experience.
VANESSA: I've been a parent as long as you, Lucas.
She asks how he managed yesterday. He claimed that Patrick was asleep the whole time. Frustrated, Vanessa picks him up. Lucas leaves for the garage.
Andrew is sitting texting Tash, to Chris's frustration. Andrew tries to persuade him to call Lucas. Chris says Lucas has other worries, so Andrew wonders if Lucas even knows. Chris says he does, so Andrew guesses that he said no. Chris says sadly that they've been struggling since they lost the Lassiters contract… and they lost that because of the accident. Andrew admits he feels bad about that too. He gets up to help, and sees that Lucas is coming. They hurriedly cover up the car, and Andrew hides. Lucas is surprised to see Chris there, and asks who owns the car under the tarpaulin.
CHRIS: That came in late. The Mackenzies. The O'Briens. The Mackenzie- O'Briens.
Lucas looks quizzical, then leaves when he's picked up the bill he came for. Chris and Andrew set to work.
Toadie has obviously unquit.
SONYA: (in fake Spanish accent) We will miss you, but we will cope. I promise.
Toadie checks that he has everything, and Angie appears, wheeling a case. Sonya says she didn't realise Angie was getting a cab too. Angie laughs, and says she's not leaving. Toadie says that Angie offered to stay and help with Nell. Sonya is horrified, and asks what about Big Kev. He's fine with it. Toadie cheerfully says he'll sleep better knowing Sonya has help. Sonya looks desperate. After Toadie leaves, Angie straightens Sonya's hair, saying *she* always used to make an effort when Big Kev was going away.
Hospital - Family Accommodation
Sonya tells Vanessa to call her any time she needs company: there's only so much Angie she can stand. She then asks how Patrick is. Vanessa says the cardiologists are really pleased with him. But she says Lucas keeps pulling back with Patrick. Sonya offers to talk to him, but Vanessa says she'll sort it out. She asks about Angie, and Sonya groans.
Hospital - Patrick's room
Lucas comes in and Vanessa asks him why he doesn't want to pick Patrick up or talk to him or take his photo. Lucas admits it makes him feel helpless, and he worries he's going to die.
LUCAS: If I let myself love him, that will break me.
Vanessa pulls him over to the crib, and points that he already loves Patrick. Lucas picks up Patrick and gives him a cuddle. He and Vanessa kiss.
Andrew and Chris have just finished cars, having worked through the night. Chris gets a call from Paul, who says he wants the cars delivered. Andrew is shaking his head, but Chris says it's not a problem. Andrew points out that neither of them has a driving licence, and that he should call Lucas. Chris calls Tash, who doesn't answer. Andrew says to call Kyle or Kate, but Chris walks towards one of the cars. Andrew tells him not to be an idiot, but Chris gets behind the wheel. Andrew gets in the car. Chris drives off nervously and has a flashback to the crash. There is a scrape of metal as he hits a skip. The front wing is damaged. Andrew assumes Chris can fix it, but Chris looks worried.
