- Priya can't find her earrings, so Ajay has bought her a replica pair…
- … but Rani finds the originals amongst the lost property from the Lassiter's hotel rooms
Rani comes in to find Priya and Ajay cooking – she explains she's been hanging out with Sophie. Straight away she notices her mum's earrings and wonders if she's wrong after all, but her hopes come crashing down when Ajay explains he bought Priya another pair. While they prepare food, Rani pretends to watch TV. Keeping hold of Priya's original earrings, Rani searches her mother's phone for evidence of the affair she suspects she's having with Paul – but doesn't find any incriminating messages.
Kyle, Chris and Harley are having a meeting to discuss the house Christmas party. Chris and Harley want to invite Aidan and Rani respectively, but Kyle suggests they keep it a strictly housemates- only affair. They're both nonplussed as to why.
CHRIS: Is this some kind of ‘bro' thing?
KYLE: If you want to put it like that. I just thought it would be better.
He argues that catering for more people will be expensive, and none of them are rolling in money right now. Chris and Harley agree.
Rani and Callum are at work, but Rani's clearly distracted. Callum asks if she's okay, and she tersely responds that she is. He asks if she's looking forward to the social – she admits she isn't really, and says Harley is still talking about taking her to Frankston. Cal tells Rani she doesn't have to go if she doesn't want to, but she says she might want after all to now – she's going to wait and see. Distractedly, she asks Callum if he'll be okay on his own for a while, and goes off to ‘check something out'.
As they set up the shed for the school social, Kyle and Georgia chat about Christmas. He asks if she's going back to Birregurra for the festive season, and she says she is – she's looking forward to seeing Auntie Yvonne, her brothers, and boyfriend Scotty, for their annual Christmas Eve carol- singing session! Far from thinking it's ‘daggy', as Georgia puts it, Kyle says it sounds like great fun, and Georgia's pleasantly surprised. She turns on a portable stereo to provide some Christmas music while they work.
Georgia is singing to herself happily when she comes in, and tells Toadie she's been decking out the Men's Shed for the social. She gets a phone call from someone called Di, however, which seems to put her in a less festive mood…
Harley's delivering some rather heavy wood supplies to the nursery in a wheelbarrow, and stops for a bit of macho competition with Callum.
CALLUM: Bit heavy?
HARLEY: No. It's all good, no sweat.
CALLUM: So are you looking forward to the social?
HARLEY: Oh the bush- dance – we'll go for a bit, I suppose. It'll be lame…
CALLUM: Not like Franga?
HARLEY: No. Franga's going to be awesome.
CALLUM: Yeah. I don't think Rani's that keen.
Harley instantly gets annoyed, saying Rani has said she'll think about it – Cal says he reckons she'll decide against going. Harley's cagey about what's actually going on at the party in Frankston, and Callum warns him not to force Rani into doing anything she doesn't want to do. Harley says he isn't forcing her to do anything, and walks away, shaking his head. Cal looks worried.
Rani spies on Paul, who's on the phone at reception. When he finishes his call, he leaves his mobile on the desk while he goes next door. She rushes in and grabs the phone, but as she leaves, Sophie spots her. Rani makes the excuse that she's come to find out how Sophie's getting on in her new job. They talk about Sophie's new colleagues and the school social, but when Paul comes back in, Rani makes a hasty exit.
Rani runs across the bridge to the gazebo, where she searches Paul's phone for evidence. Sure enough, she finds what she's looking for – a series of increasingly candid text messages between him and Priya! Devastated, she runs back across the walkway, angrily throwing Paul's phone into the lake.
Rani walks sadly into Ramsay Street, and sees Ajay unloading stuff from the car. She sees Harley across the street, and smiles and waves, before going forlornly into her house.
Kyle and Kate are having a drink when Georgia comes in. She reveals the bad news from the phone call before – she's been told she'll have to work all Christmas, which means she won't be able to go home to Birregurra. Kate says she's sure Toadie and Sonya will love having her around, but she admits it's not the same.
Rani comes in to see Harley. He enthuses about a new music website he's found and asks if she wants to listen. She says yes unenthusiastically, and he asks if she's okay. She's unsure what to say.
The pupils are beginning to arrive for the bush- dance, while Priya and Lucas keep an eye on proceedings.
Harley tells Rani he can talk to her if something's wrong, but she insists she's okay – just bored. Sarcastically he tells her that the bush- dance ought to fix that. Rani suddenly suggests that they go to Frankston instead.
HARLEY: What about the social?
RANI: What about it?
Everyone, including Priya and Lucas, finds it hilarious when Callum turns up to the social in full cowboy costume. He looks despondent as he realises nobody else is in fancy dress, but Priya points out that at least he'll be in with a good chance of winning the ‘best costume' prize! She's surprised that that Rani and Harley haven't come with him, but Cal says they'll probably be along later. He heads off to get changed, but the teachers tell him he's not allowed to leave now he's here! Callum looks truly miserable.
Harley says they'll probably get into trouble for not showing up to the social, but Rani says she doesn't care – including about what Priya thinks. Harley admits Callum had said Rani might not be keen on going to Frankston, but says he knew she'd be up for it. She looks worried again, but when he asks if she's okay, she gives him a lingering kiss. Harley calls his mate Jono, to arrange for him to pick them up.
Kyle calls round to drop off a Dial- A- Kyle invoice for Sonya for the delivery Harley made earlier, but she's at her ‘pregnant yoga' class, about which Toadie proceeds to give Kyle far too much information! In the kitchen, Georgia is making ‘tomahawks' – a bright blue Christmas cocktail she's devised – with a drinks machine that her boyfriend Scotty won (and later gave her for their anniversary!).
Quickly realising Georgia's compensating for not being able to go home for Christmas this year, Kyle spontaneously asks her to come to the share- house party a few days before, which won't clash with her hospital shifts. She happily agrees.
Chris and Kyle are playing a very noisy video game.
CHRIS: What are you doing?
KYLE: Whipping your butt!
CHRIS: Yes! Yes! Boom! I think you just got smashed!
CHRIS: That's what they call it, isn't it? Being smashed!
KYLE: Alright then – rematch, boomer!
CHRIS: Bring it! You want a beer?
While Chris fetches them beer, he comments about how much he's looking forward to the house Christmas party. Kyle looks guilty as he's invited Georgia, while having told Chris he couldn't invite Aidan. So he U- turns and says Chris can have Aidan there after all, and that Harley can invite Rani too. Chris starts doing uncannily good impressions of Kyle circa this morning, saying how good it would be if it was just the housemates!
KYLE: Dude, totally lame – I don't sound like that.
CHRIS (as Kyle): No, I don't sound like that. Dude!
KYLE: You finished?
Kyle mutters that he might invite someone too, but says it so quietly that Chris doesn't hear – and they continue playing the video game.
The soft drinks are flowing as the Year 9 social continues at Erinsborough's most happening venue – an epithet all the more richly deserved now that Kate has turned up to help supervise. Priya is worried that nobody seems to be having fun and is having second thoughts about the wisdom of the bush- dance theme, but Kate reassures her that the party will heat up once she's had a word to the DJ about playing some classic tracks.
Meanwhile, Priya chats to Sophie and Cowboy Callum, who both look like they'd rather be at school – Sophie's day brightened only by the opportunity to tease Cal about his costume. Priya asks where Rani is, and Sophie says she hasn't turned up yet – at which point she notices Priya's earrings and comments that Rani must have given them to her. She explains about the earrings being found in one of the rooms at Lassiter's, and how she let Rani take them. The truth about the original earrings dawns on Priya, and she hurriedly tells Kate she has to leave for a while, before calling Rani on her mobile. When she doesn't answer, Priya leaves her a voicemail message, asking where she is and when she's getting to the social – and adding that she loves her.
Priya rushes in, calling Rani's name, but finds only Ajay, who's finished his music session with Karl earlier than expected. When he asks why she's back, she lies and says she had to change her shoes as they were uncomfortable.
AJAY: Hey, were you calling out for Rani just now?
AJAY : That's so weird – I swear I thought I heard you calling out Rani. But she's at the social, right?
PRIYA: Yeah, she's having fun!
Ajay suddenly suggests he could come back to the shed with Priya since it's Rani's first social, joking that he wants to give the evil eye to all the boys who will be looking at her. Panicking, Priya says it's best they don't embarrass her further, as she already has her mother there. Ajay agrees and decides to spend a quiet evening watching TV instead – but he asks Priya if she could take some photos of Rani at the event for him. A terrified Priya agrees, before walking out again.
