Sonya apologises repeatedly for having talked Toadie into thinking Charlotte was going after him – but Toadie can't blame Sonya, as he believed it too. Worried it will affect his chances of promotion, he leaves to sort out the mess, leaving Sonya feeling guilty.
Now he's sold his share of Dial- A- Kyle, Lou has a new hobby to fill his time: he's taken up painting, following an inspiring visit to an art gallery in London with Dawn. Vanessa thinks it's a great idea, but Lucas is slightly sceptical – and in any case is too distracted thinking about Vanessa to pay attention to what Lou's saying. It's Vanessa's last shift before she and Rhys go to Japan; she's been in touch with a doctor in Tokyo to ensure she'll have medical support if she needs it, but says the main thing is the baby is healthy. Lucas agrees, but when she leaves, Lou tells Lucas he's been looking at her like a lovesick puppy. Lucas admits he really likes Vanessa, and Lou encourages him to tell her: Lou reckons Rhys will quickly start to lose interest once the baby arrives, and that in any case the child should be brought up with its parents together.
Lucas sits by Vanessa on a bench. Vanessa's looking forward to Japan, but laments the fact that she'll have no kitchen and won't be able to enjoy home- cooked food. Lucas recalls missing his mum's beef and mushroom pie when he left home, and he suggests they have it tonight, to celebrate her last night in Erinsborough. Vanessa agrees and says she'll find a recipe. She looks momentarily horrified when Lucas says he wants to cook, but agrees, and says she'll see him tonight.

Charlotte and Toadie have an awkward chat: she insists he leave the door open. Toadie apologises, saying it was unprofessional of him to think she was making advances. Charlotte agrees; she'd like to forget all about it, but tells Toadie that, as they would be working closely again if he were to take her current job, she can no longer recommend him for the promotion. Toadie leaves, deflated.
Lou is practicing his painting skills, but he isn't very pleased with the results so far - as he tells Susan when she passes by. She tries to be encouraging, saying he just needs more practice; she suggests he may want to try portraits. Unfortunately for Susan, this gives Lou an idea, and he asks if she'll sit for him while he paints her portrait! She grudgingly agrees.
Lucas comes in to get pastry- making advice from Sonya, but she's distracted thinking about Toadie. She hands him a recipe book; he explains he's making the pie for Vanessa, and that he's going to take her advice and tell Vanessa how he feels. Sonya's thrilled: she hugs Lucas excitedly and tells him he's doing the right thing.
Vanessa has filled two of her own suitcases with clothes and insists on sharing half of Rhys's case too.
RHYS: And what am I supposed to do, wear the same thing every day?
VANESSA: You can wash it overnight.
RHYS: And what do I wear in the evenings?
VANESSA: Do I really have to answer that?
She tells him about her dinner with Lucas; Rhys objects, saying it's their last night at home, and Vanessa says she's sure Lucas won't mind if Rhys joins them. Rhys suggests they have the dinner at No 26 as Vanessa and Lucas don't have any furniture yet.
Lucas has forgotten the tarragon for his recipe and has come to pick it up, but he bumps into Rhys and Vanessa who mention about having dinner at No 26, if he doesn't mind Rhys joining them. Lucas is annoyed, but doesn't object.
Lou is painting Susan's portrait as she poses on the bridge. When he's finished, Lou thinks it's dreadful. Judging by the look on her face, Susan agrees, but insists on lying to him to spare his feelings, and says it's a wonderful portrait. She tells him she'd like to keep it and hang it on the wall in her flat, wincing as she says it.
Susan shows the painting to Karl, who's about as impressed with it as she is. He teases her about having to hang it in her apartment. Lou comes in, and both of them pretend how much they like the painting again. While Susan's getting a drink, Lou admits to Karl that he hates the painting, and is mystified as to why Susan likes it.
Sonya comes off the phone from Toadie as Jade calls round. Sonya explains that Charlotte's withdrawn her recommendation that Toadie be promoted to her job, and now Sonya feels responsible, as she's the one who put the idea in Toadie's head. She decides to go to talk to Charlotte and explain it was her fault, despite Jade's best efforts to convince her not to.

Sonya calls in to see Charlotte. She admits she came up with the notion that Charlotte was chasing Toadie, and says it's her hormones making her paranoid. Sonya says she pushed Toadie into thinking the worst, and begs Charlotte not to let it affect her decision to nominate Toadie for promotion. Charlotte isn't swayed initially, but Sonya makes a heartfelt speech, saying the incident shows that Toadie is a man of honesty and integrity, in that he was prepared to confront the ‘problem' head- on: and isn't that the sort of person Charlotte wants working with her?
Toadie comes in. He seems annoyed with Sonya at first for going to see Charlotte, saying he said he'd deal with the situation himself. But then he smiles and admits Charlotte's agreed to recommend him for promotion after all. Sonya's thrilled, and tells him not to pay attention to her mad ideas in future.
Lucas, Rhys and Vanessa eat the beef and mushroom pie (which goes down better than expected). Lucas watches the couple sadly as they discuss their Japan trip, and is keen to get away, but Vanessa insists he stay for dessert. He's forced to watch as they smooch one another.
Susan and Karl continue to discuss the painting; she doesn't want to hurt Lou's feelings by telling him the truth. So they've concocted a plan whereby Karl claims he wants to buy the painting from her, to hang in his ‘very private study'. When Lou comes round, Susan has second thoughts and says she wants to keep it, but Karl insists he wants it. Lou says he doesn't mind who has the painting, and leaves them to sort it out between themselves. When he's gone, Susan and Karl conclude they ought to burn it.
Lucas has just about had enough of listening to loved- up Vanessa and Rhys witter on and is about to go, but when he realises Rhys has to dash to the hospital, he opts to stay instead and keep Vanessa company while they wash up. He prepares to tell her the truth, even practicing what he's going to say to her while she's out of the room. But when she comes back in, Vanessa asks him if he could take her and Rhys to the airport tomorrow. He agrees, and she tells him to check the time of the flight on the itinerary in Rhys's bag in the lounge. When Lucas opens the bag however, he finds a case containing an expensive- looking ring...
