Recap
- Zeke inviting Summer to stay at #28
- Charlie finding a lizard in the street and naming it Teddy
- Mark and Lucas running into each other at the bike race
Ashley Road Railyard
Mark approaches Lucas after he wins the race but Garland's beady eyes are on them so they have to be stealthy. Garland tells Mark to go and see Billy about his winnings - he can shout him and Lucas breakfast. But Lucas doesn't stick around for the meal, telling Garland he's got some work to do at the garage.
Number 24
Lucas bangs and crashes his way through the door in frustration, waking up Sophie and Kate in the process. He pretends his bad mood is due to going through a red light camera. Kate gets a text from Mark, letting her know he's going to catch up on some sleep after pulling an all- nighter. Lucas flinches, worrying about how much trouble he's in.
Number 28
Karl, Susan, Lyn, Toadie, Callum and Sonya are putting their heads together to come up with birthday ideas for Charlie. Karl suggests the reptile man who brings his menagerie of animals to events.
TOADIE: And you know this how?
KARL: I treated him last month. Multiple snake bites.
While Toadie freaks out, Lyn tells Karl it's a nice idea but it might be a bit short notice. The #30 clan head home to work on more ideas just as Summer arrives with Charlie, and Teddy, in tow. Charlie informs his Nan he's not giving Teddy away.
Ramsay Street
Lyn sits out the front of #26 with Charlie, trying to convince him he has to give Teddy back to his owner. But Charlie insists the lizard wants to stay with him for his birthday. Jim Dolan takes some time out from work to collect the lizard for his mate, feeling sorry for the poor kid. Charlie just scowls at Lyn and says he hates her.
Number 24
Kate can't help wondering if Lucas has something else on his mind and then remembers the date he was supposed to go on. Lucas pretends Kate guessed correctly but tenses up when Mark arrives for some breakfast. Kate asks Mark if his work was worth losing sleep over. Mark just glances over at Lucas and says it was "very interesting".
Later, Mark, Kate, Lucas and Sophie are sitting at the table together but Lucas has barely touched his food. While the girls go off to get ready for Charlie's party, Mark has a quiet chat with Lucas, letting him know what an idiot he is for getting involved with Garland. Lucas asks if he's being arrested or not, but Mark says he's going to throw him a lifeline: he wants Lucas's help to bring Garland down.
First Commercial Break
Number 28
The house has turned into a birthday party wonderland with balloons, decorations and small children everywhere. Kate, Sophie and Lucas arrive with a present, but the only gift Charlie wants is Teddy. He runs away to the bedrooms to sulk. Aww, cheer up Charlie - anyone got a Wonka golden ticket for this poor kid? Kate and Sophie head outside with Summer where Callum's doing a stand- up routine. Susan tells Lucas that it's nice he came - Lyn needs all the friendly faces around she can get. Meanwhile, Lyn dashes to answer her mobile but her face falls when the reptile man confirms he can't make it to the party. What are they going to do now?
Well if the very quiet strains of 'Ant Rap' playing in the background are any indication the answer is party on down with one half of the not- so- critically acclaimed most awesome band in Erinsborough - Oodles of Noodles! Yee- hah! Karl jams away on his guitar, much to the horror of everyone in attendance, but this tune is rockin! Everybody now!
When you eat it goes pop, pop, pop! When you start you can't stop, stop, stop! If I had every packet in the world it still wouldn't be enough. That's why I told my mum I never get tired of that ooey gooey chewy sticky stuff! Sticky stuff! STICKY STUFF!
LUCAS: (to Sophie) Just smile and nod it'll be over soon. It could be worse, apparently there used to be two of them.
Susan sighs at the disaster in her lounge room as Karl attempts another round of the song, inviting everyone to join in. They don't.
SUSAN: (to Lyn) You know kids used to love Oodles of Noodles. Maybe it was just Ned Parker they loved.
Kate smirks at Summer and says she'll have to get used to impromptu musical performances now she's living here. But Summer says Susan usually hides the guitar when she can. Kate says Summer won't have to worry about having friends over either - Andrew will probably make himself at home in no time. Summer's like, '...yeah'. Meanwhile, Karl's moved on from music and is trying his hand at impressions. He puts something on his nose and asks the kids if they know what he is. They don't. He grins and says he's a koala. They don't care. Susan goes over to the kitchen and checks up on Lyn.
SUSAN: Everything alright?
LYN: Everything's terrific. My own granddaughter doesn't want to live under the same roof as me and I've ruined my grandson's birthday.
SUSAN: Oh come on it's not that bad. If anything, Karl ruined it. You'll be alright.
Lucas checks his watch (Mark gave him a two hour timeframe to make his choice), and quickly leaves the party.
Super Secret Meeting Place
Lucas meets Mark near some abandoned warehouse thing and learns that Mark wants him to wear a wire and get Garland to talk about his stolen car racket. Lucas finds the whole idea outrageous, reminding Mark that Garland is a shady guy, but Mark assures him that he'll be protected the whole time. When Lucas realises there's no other way, he sighs and takes the wire from Mark.
Second Commercial Break
Charlie's Bar
Lucas makes sure the wire is turned on before shoving the main part back in his pocket. He gets uncomfortable when Kate sees him, but she's just there to pick up some extra food for the party. Garland arrives and Lucas tries to talk shop with him, but Garland's too busy perving on Kate. He flirts with her like a sleaze but Lucas eventually manages to get Kate free without mentioning that they know one another. Garland's not happy about Lucas stopping his perv- a- thon but still listens when Lucas asks him about another stolen car gig. Garland just eyes him up and says he'll be in touch.
Number 28
Lyn tells Summer that Charlie still won't come out and enjoy the party. She feels awful that she's let the kids down, but Summer assures her they're OK. Charlie just misses Steph. Lyn says that he misses the silly lizard too. Karl gets his idea face on and says there might be a way to save this birthday after all.
Ramsay Street
Kate arrives back with the tray of sausage rolls to find Lyn, Summer, Toadie and Callum waiting in the street. Jim Dolan soon drives up and hands over Teddy - when the owner found out how sad Charlie was he was more than happy to give the lizard away. Jim has a moment of recognition with Toadie (from when he was representing Paul at the building site), but Toadie feels uncomfortable about that association and heads inside with Callum and Kate. Charlie rushes out and is super stoked to see Teddy, thanking Jim with a big smile. Jim and Lyn have a nice little moment where Jim invites her to come and inspect the building progress any time she likes. Summer grins, happy to see her Nan might be in for a new romance.
Garage
Mark informs Lucas that he did a good job with Garland. He doesn't think he would have played it so cool if he saw Garland cracking onto Kate like that. Lucas thinks all his detective work is over and done with now, but Mark says he's still got other plans for him. They still haven't got enough evidence to bust Garland and they're not going to stop until they do.
Third Commercial Break
Garage
Lucas and Mark have taken their chat outside. That's nice and safe, guys. No one can see or hear you out in the open. Lucas angrily claims that Mark's just doing all of this so he can get promoted. Mark ignores him and says he has to organise a drop- off with Garland and get his hands on another stolen car. When Lucas is still iffy, Mark sneers that Lucas got himself into this mess, he's just offering him a way out. They play it cool when Kate sees them, on her way to Charlie's to return the food tray, but resume their argument when she leaves.
LUCAS: OK I'll give you a week. See what I can get on him, then I'm out.
MARK: You don't call the shots. It takes as long as it takes. And Kate and Sophie, they don't hear one word about this. They're too involved already. Is that clear?
LUCAS: (quietly) Yes.
Preview
(Tomorrow on Neighbours)
KARL: Could we have a little enthusiasm please? I need my star model and star photographer.
(Toadie and Karl pose for the calendar - much to Lucas and Mark's horror)
KARL: I thought I might pose like this (he opens his doctor's coat). How's it looking?
LUCAS: (Turning his head away) ... Really good.
(Toadie has somehow volunteered himself to baby- sit India)
TOADIE: What do we do?
SONYA: We don't do anything. You're the one who volunteered.
(Cut to Toadie singing to a disinterested India)
TOADIE: Rock- a- bye baby on the tree top...
(Toadie has put India down for a nap - she starts to cry)
TOADIE: Do I go in there? Do I let her cry it out?
JADE: Got any ideas, Son?
SONYA: Nope!
(Meanwhile Lucas and Mark are still bickering)
MARK: What's the one thing I didn't want to happen?
LUCAS: Kate to be involved.
KATE: Hey! What is going on?
