Recap
Ringo and Donna ask Declan and Kate to be the best man and maid of honour - and when their friends get married they can do the same!
Kate tells Declan that he's pushing her away.
Paul tells Diana that her time is over; Rosemary tells Diana she's booking her a flight back to New York.
Paul tells Diana that no- one beats him.
Diana throws a drink at Paul.
Rebecca tells her family that she knows Paul is trying to win her back, and they don't have to worry about it.
Paul tells Rebecca that he wouldn't let anything come before her; Rebecca says it's Lassiter's or her - not both.
Lassiter's
From the rooftop bar, Paul watches Rebecca, Donna, Declan and Kate walk by. Diana walks up behind him, admiring the view. He wonders why she's not packing, and she says she's leaving and might miss him. She mocks the fact that he's living in a hotel and celebrating his victory alone. Paul retorts that it's better than going home empty- handed.
DIANA: I'm sorry about your marriage. You know, I was married once. We never saw each other so it didn't work out. The bottom line is you have to choose between a career and love.
PAUL: But you see there's a difference between having a career, like you, and having an empire. I can have it all, it's just a matter of figuring out how.
Diana tells him that people like them can't sustain a relationship, and the fact that they're alike scares him.
Number 22
Kate is admiring Rebecca for not putting up with the problems in her relationship. She thinks that making Paul choose is the only way to make him see the problem, too. Declan thinks it might backfire. Declan slates Paul, and Kate reminds him that he is her uncle.
Zeke comes in and leaps in front of the sofa where Donna sits with India, Ringo lying behind them. They decide to get on with organising the wedding.
DONNA: Well first we need to discuss the wedding party.
ZEKE: I love to party.
DONNA: I mean, like, the people going down the aisle...
Ringo and Donna tell Zeke that they've chosen Declan and Kate as best man and maid of honour because they're a couple. Zeke is clearly disappointed, but they ask him to be MC. Zeke likes this...until he realises that they seem to already have done some planning and booked venues. They admit they've had some conversations, but haven't organised much - including the buck's night. Zeke says he can help out with that one.
Charlie's
Ringo and Declan are playing pool whilst they talk about the buck's party. Ringo doesn't want anything too wild, so a daytime thing will do - and Zeke suggests go- karting. Ringo doesn't like the idea, so Zeke goes for paintballing, but Ringo points out that Toadie did that for his. Declan's phone rings and he has to go to work. Zeke asks Ringo what he'd like to do, but the groom- to- be doesn't want to talk about it now that Declan's not here; he doesn't want him to miss out on the conversations.
Ringo puts the pool cues away and goes to get a drink. Zeke, feeling left out, stands alone. Toadie comes over to Zeke and points out that as Declan is best man, it's only fair that he's involved. Zeke retorts that if Declan had come up with the idea of paintballing, Ringo would have been all over it.
TOADIE: You reckon?
ZEKE: Yeah. I'm being benched.
Poor Zeke.
Number 22
Donna is telling Kate that she wants her hen's night to be super tacky, but Kate is distracted and admits to Donna that she doesn't think Declan likes her anymore. Apparently he has 'stuff' going on. She wonders if perhaps she's too clingy, but Donna assures her that Declan's a good guy, and that if he's not telling her something it's probably for a good reason. Kate doesn't know what to do about the situation, so Donna gives her a hug.
New York Office / Charlie's
Paul calls Rosemary, who stands magnificently next to a huge fireplace in a room of books, because all Americans work in places like that. Paul tells Rosemary that his marriage is in trouble and he needs her help - he needs to take a break from the company. Indefinitely. She gives him a six month break, but no more.
Rosemary says she'll organise for Diana to take over but Paul has a better suggestion: Declan.
Number 22
Back at the Robinsons' Rebecca says she won't consider Paul's offer of six months off to save their relationship, even if it does lead to semi- retirement. It's her or Lassiter's, end of. Plus, he's going to ask Declan to head up Lassiter's Australia. You know, the 19 year old single father who's doing a uni course and doesn't have the experience to manage a whole nation- wide chain of hotels.
Rebecca thinks about this: it's an amazing opportunity for Declan, and perhaps for them. If Declan accepts the offer, then Paul can move back in on a trial basis, contingent upon his semi- retirement.
Harold's Store
Declan orders a latte and Kate asks after Rebecca but Declan says he doesn't really have time to talk. Paul interrupts and tells Declan of his proposal, but Declan turns him down; he won't be used so that Paul can suck up to his mum. Paul says that he hand- picked Declan because he wants Lassiter's to stay in the family. Paul leaves and Kate wonders what they were talking about; Declan doesn't tell her.
Number 28
Zeke is on the laptop. Ringo, just woken up, comes in and walks into Dahl's perch, which is there because Karl's getting ready for Dahl's homecoming. Donna comes in without knocking.
DONNA: Oh good, you're both up (kisses Ringo). Ew, morning breath. I'm really starting to worry about this whole song thing, we need to come up with something stat, I'm open to any suggestions right now, (to Zeke) I will listen to your weird indie stuff, (to Ringo) is your iPod in your room?
She walks off.
Zeke asks Ringo about deep sea fishing, but Ringo wonders about Zeke being in a boat. Nice continuity. Ringo says he just wants to hang with his mates, but Zeke thinks they should 'do' something whilst they hang out. What about hang- gliding?
RINGO: Can we just leave this up to Declan?
ZEKE: You don't think I can do this? How long have we known each other? We've shared a room for years!
RINGO: Zeke, I'm not saying that we're not great mates...
ZEKE: Well then what are you saying?
RINGO: I don't know! Declan just gets me better for this! He's best man! I just think that if Declan's in charge, I'll just get something that's more me.
Zeke is really hurt, but Donna bursts back in.
DONNA: I found it! I had to move some socks to get to it, and I threw them in the bin because, seriously - gross. Why is it so hard for two people to decide on a wedding song.
ZEKE: You should ask Declan, see what he thinks.
DONNA: Oh yeah, good idea!
Surprised, Ringo asks Zeke if their friendship is okay.
ZEKE: Yeah. You've made everything perfectly clear.
Ringo doesn't get it and, pleased, sits down with Donna.
Harold's Store
Zeke is telling Kate that it seems a little unfair, but Kate defends Declan and says that he knows Ringo well. Toadie comes to the counter as Zeke points out that he would have put together the best buck's party, like, ever.
ZEKE: I introduced him to Radiohead. If it wasn't for me he would still be listening to his mother's Celine Dion.
TOADIE: There's nothing wrong with Celine Di...
Toadie quickly pays for his stuff, and whilst Kate says she has no advice for Zeke, Toadie does: don't get mad, get even, and prove Ringo wrong.
Lassiter's
Rebecca sits outside Harold's and Kate asks how things are with Paul. Declan comes over and Kate quickly leaves. He sits down with his mum and tells her about Paul's offer of the job, and Declan is worried about what Rebecca might think...what if it's another scam of Paul's?
REBECCA: It won't be - he would never risk his company!
Rebecca says Paul loves her and the family, and although she won't push Declan to take the job, she's thrilled when he says he's going to take it on! She throws her arms around him. Kate overhears, horrified at the news.
Donna runs over.
DONNA: Okay, so I've been thinking about my hen's night - wait for it: Double- Declanker Bus!
KATE: I am SO sick and tired hearing things about Declan third hand!
DONNA: Alright, a little off- topic, but...
Kate throws her apron at Donna and says she's going to make Declan choose between her and Lassiter's! After all, it worked for Rebecca...
Charlie's
Paul is shaking Declan's hand, very pleased. Kate storms in, demanding to talk to Declan right now, and Rebecca tactfully takes Paul away. Kate wants to know why Declan didn't tell her about the job even though he had time to tell his mum, so he retorts that he doesn't need her permission to take a job. Kate wonders why he won't share stuff with her - what's he afraid of?
Zeke walks in and asks to talk to Declan before realising it's an argument. Kate doesn't care, she's leaving - she's used to not being talked to.
At the counter, Zeke offers to take the buck's party off Declan's shoulders as he has a lot on. Zeke suggests that they let Ringo think that Declan has organised it... Declan agrees.
Harold's Store
Kate storms back in, stormily. She thanks Donna for covering, and says she didn't get the chance to ask Declan to choose. Donna promises her it will work out.
At a table, Zeke and Ringo sit down and Zeke says that Declan has been doing some groundwork on the buck's party. He shows Ringo the plans, and Ringo loves them.
DONNA: Better not be any strippers!
RINGO: Declan knows I'm not into that sort of thing. That's why he's my best man.
Poor Zeke. Ringo says he's happy with all the plans, and so Zeke walks out, running into Toadie at the door. He thanks Toad for the advice, and notes that Ringo's buck's party may not be as low- key as Ringo thinks it will...
Charlie's
In the back room, Diana comes to see Rebecca to say goodbye; she's leaving this morning. She wants to wish Rebecca well, and tell her that she's better off without Paul. Ooops.
DIANA: He's married to his job.
REBECCA: Diana, I don't think you know Paul as well as you think you do.
DIANA: I'm sorry?
REBECCA: He's taken six months off.
DIANA: Oh! From Lassiter's?
REBECCA: Yes! So we can work our stuff out. And Declan's taking over.
DIANA: Declan?
REBECCA: It's the deep end, I know, but Paul has every faith in him.
DIANA: No, no! Declan's perfect. I came here to say goodbye, and I learned something new about my company!
They shake hands and Diana leaves.
Lassiter's Hotel
In reception, Diana runs into Declan who is bringing her cases out. She congratulates him on his appointment.
DECLAN: I'll just go and check on your car.
DIANA: I've done that. And I've cancelled my flight. You know, Paul's not gonna change.
DECLAN: Well, he's doing this for mum...for his family...
DIANA: Yeah... But in six months' time, Paul is still going to be Paul. Declan, you're not going to solve Rebecca's marriage problems, you're just going to delay them. You have been given a fantastic opportunity here. You should take advantage of that. Make sure that Paul keeps his promise to your mum.
Declan wonders how. And Diana advises that Rebecca wants Paul to be a family man, so they need to make sure that Paul never regains control of Lassiter's: by permanently bringing him down. Working together, her and Declan. He gets his dream of a career, and Rebecca gets her marriage.
Charlie's
Popping the champagne, Rebecca, Paul and Declan celebrate the new job. Paul thanks Declan for what he's doing for the family, and they toast him. Paul says he's feeling more leisurely already, and Rebecca thanks him for giving up what he has for her.
Paul says it's only for six months - before adding that he's only joking. But Declan realises that he might be serious. Paul goes off to get some better champagne, and Declan tells his mum he's pleased to see her smiling. Realising how much this means to his mum, and wanting to make her happy, Declan takes out his mobile and calls Diana.
He's in.
