Recap
- Libby asking Steph if she still has feelings for Lucas
- Lyn worrying about Lucas's influence on Steph
- Donna and Summer recording Mia's chat with Skinner
- Donna trying to tell Zeke about Mia's betrayal
Number 28
Donna, Zeke and Mia sit in silence while they sort through photos for Zeke's birthday. Donna shoots worried glances Zeke's way while Mia is deep in thought, only snapping out of it when Susan asks her a question. Donna gets up to go but gives Zeke a big hug before she leaves. Looking sincere, Zeke thanks her for not giving up on their friendship. Mia appears uncomfortable with how heartfelt they're acting and checks if everything's OK, but Zeke says it is. He's got his birthday and a new start with her - what more could he ask for?
Later, Karl puts on a bagpipe show for Zeke, Mia and Susan. The only Irish factor he's got going on is that it sounds like he's killing a leprechaun.
ZEKE: Can you please tell me that's not the only music we have.
SUSAN: Don't panic. We've got Van Morrison, we've got Sinead O'Connor, we've got Enya.
KARL: And don't forget Michael Flatley.
ZEKE: I thought I said no Irish dancing.
KARL: Yeah well it's part of the theme.
ZEKE: Just because it's the theme doesn't mean it's right!
Meanwhile, Mia has got a sneaky text from Skinner wanting to make sure everything is set for tomorrow. She looks torn but puts a plan in place for Zeke to have lunch at her "granddad's" house the next day. Susan and Karl head off to bed - Karl's got a big day tomorrow as well starting back at the hospital.
Cut to later that night and Zeke has fallen asleep on the couch next to Mia. She quietly gets up and starts to plant evidence in his belongings - putting files on his laptop, papers in his backpack and sending texts from his phone.
Number 22
While all this is going on, Donna is re- playing the recording of Mia and Skinner on Summer's iPod, but she accidentally records herself talking to Cat and tapes over the evidence. Donna is distraught.
Number 26
Libby's having a cuppa with Steph and wants to know why she's been so run- down lately. Steph tries to bluff her way out of it, but Libby gets Lyn involved as well. Feeling harassed, Steph admits that things have just been crazy since she got back but she promises to take better care of herself from now on.
The next morning Steph discovers that Lyn has cooked up a huge breakfast of Eggs Florentine for her - Lyn thinks she's lacking iron. Resisting the urge to vomit, Steph takes a tiny mouthful to appease her mum. But this makes Lyn even more concerned and Steph realises that Lyn thinks her cancer is back. She reassures Lyn that she had a mammogram before her holiday and it was all- clear. Changing the subject, Steph asks about Lyn's plans for the day and ends up inviting herself along while Lyn does food deliveries at the hospital (this also gives her a chance to get dressed and avoid eating more eggs).
Harold's Store
The #28 gang, Donna and Mia are having a birthday breakfast with Zeke. Karl and Susan let him open one present - a pair of sunnies. They propose a toast to Zeke and then Karl, wishing him good luck at work. Karl, Susan and Libby head off while Mia goes to get more coffees from Lyn. Donna quickly scoots around the table to talk to Zeke, but the camera pans across...
... To Toadie and Steph. Toadie's relieved to hear that Lyn doesn't suspect Steph's pregnant, but Steph says all the lying is getting her down. Toadie reminds her that she just has to keep calm and remember why they're lying in the first place - so they don't hurt Lib.
Back at the other table, Donna is telling Zeke that he should be spending the day with family and friends, not Mia, and that she really doesn't want him heading out with Mia today. Mia overhears and is concerned but Zeke says they're leaving and gruffly tells Donna to stay out of his relationship.
Mia's "Granddad's" House
Zeke is explaining to Mia that Donna has been acting weird about relationships ever since her break- up with Ringo, so she shouldn't take any notice of her. Mia thinks it's still strange, but Zeke gives her a loaded look and says "as long as we're together it doesn't matter what they say". Mia considers this, but leaves Zeke disappointed when she replies that she can't wait for him to meet her granddad. They ring the door bell but there's no answer. Mia doesn't have her key but she knows there's a spare one round the back. Zeke wonders why they can't just wait for her granddad to get home, but Mia says she thought they could have more "fun" together inside.
Erinsborough Hospital - Waiting Area
Susan and Libby have walked Karl inside so they can give him a good luck pressie - his very own thermometer set. Lyn and Steph arrive with the deliveries, but when Steph starts to walk down the hall she feels incredibly dizzy and has to sit down. Everyone rushes to her and Karl asks Jodie to get a gurney for him. Lyn looks worried.
Erinsborough Hospital - Steph's Room
Karl's doing a check- up on Steph but she just claims she's really tired. Lyn tells Karl not to listen to Steph - she hasn't been well at all and needs all the tests she can get. Jodie lets Toadie into the room and Karl asks "all non- essential" people to leave the room. Susan and Libby walk out with Lyn begrudgingly following them. Karl asks Steph more health questions, including one about her menstrual cycle, which she says is like clockwork.
KARL: That's good but Steph, really, with your history you should be taking better care of yourself.
STEPH: [flustered] I know, alright, I know. I just... I haven't had a break lately with Callum and Lucas and now mum's worried about me.
TOADIE: I've been so busy in court lately, I just haven't been there as much as I should to help out.
Karl asks if there's anything else he should know and Steph and Toadie shoot quick looks at one another before Steph shakes her head. Jodie wonders if she should order full blood tests, which sets off alarm bells in Steph.
STEPH: No, Karl, I don't need tests! I know what it is I'm just tired.
KARL: There's no harm in being cautious.
STEPH: This is just ridiculous. It's your first day back and you just want to prove that you've got it. Well just go prove it on someone else, I'm not having any tests!
Toadie jumps in and says he'll take Steph home and make sure she's well looked after. Karl sighs and agrees, but if the fatigue continues she has to come straight back. He and Jodie leave Toadie and Steph alone, and Steph immediately starts apologising for almost ruining everything.
STEPH: I'm such an idiot.
TOADIE: No you're pregnant and there is nothing more important than that. So just forget about all the other stuff, OK, because no matter what I'm going to be here to take care of you.
He gently brushes her hair aside and Steph gives him a grateful look.
Mia's "Granddad's" House
Mia claims she can't find the spare key so they'll have to look for a window that's open. And wouldn't you know it, there's one conveniently unlocked for them. There's this whole big song and dance about who'll climb in first - Mia wants Zeke to, but Zeke wonders why she isn't considering it's her granddad's house. Anyway, Zeke's about to climb in when Skinner arrives with some cops and tells Zeke he's under arrest for breaking and entering. A cop handcuffs Zeke and Mia avoids eye contact with him.
Erinsborough Hospital - Waiting Area
Karl tells Lyn, Susan and Libby that Steph's just stressed. Lyn wants to know about the tests, but Karl says that's only if the fatigue continues. Jodie tells Karl he has a phone call from the cops just as Steph and Toadie emerge from the room. Lyn hugs her daughter and Toadie says he'll make sure Steph's OK. Lyn says he's a good boy and that Steph's lucky to have him. Looking bewildered, Karl comes back to tell Susan and Libby that Zeke's been arrested.
Police Station
Zeke's behind bars and Mia is alarmed when Skinner locks her up as a precaution, just so she doesn't do a runner while they're checking the evidence. Zeke's angry that Mia has made him out to be the "ringleader" of her little gang. Mia says she didn't have a choice, but Zeke replies that she *always* has a choice.
MIA: I'm sorry.
ZEKE: So am I. While you had to look out for yourself, I had to look out for myself.
MIA: What are you talking about?
ZEKE: I knew what you were doing. I've been playing you.
FLASHBACK [#28]: We're shown the scene from last night when Donna first came over to #28. While Mia was busy looking at photos with Susan and Karl, Donna gave Zeke the iPod evidence to listen to.
Back in the cell, Zeke says he heard how she was going to set him up. Skinner reappears and asks Mia where all the evidence is that she promised him. Mia's confused but Zeke calmly tells Skinner to check Mia's bag.
FLASHBACK [#28]: While Mia was planting the evidence, Zeke was awake on the couch. He knew the laptop and papers were an easy fix, but to solve the phone problem he quietly swapped around his and Mia's SIM cards while she wasn't looking.
Mia then asks about the fight with Donna. Zeke says she accidentally deleted the recording and was worried he wouldn't have enough proof. Mia looks slightly relieved and says she'll just deny everything, but Zeke says it's too late. Everything leads back to her.
FLASHBACK [HAROLD'S STORE]: When the scene cutaway to Steph and Toadie, Donna and Zeke were having a hushed conversation about Mia's plan. Donna was worried that Skinner wouldn't believe Zeke if he tagged along with Mia, but Zeke said he switched all the evidence and it'd be fine. Donna reminded Zeke he could go to jail, but Zeke said she'll just have to trust him. That's when Mia overheard them and Zeke had to pretend they were arguing.
Zeke is upset and says he gave Mia so many chances to tell him what was going on. Mia says she couldn't do it, but she's truly sorry for everything. Then she really ramps it up and says she loves Zeke and begs him to help her.
Police Station
Karl, Susan, Libby and Donna are waiting anxiously in the foyer for any news. Karl can't believe Donna didn't tell them what was going on earlier, but Donna says Zeke wanted to handle it himself.
Back in the cell, Zeke tells Mia that what they shared he's never shared with anyone before. She should have been truthful with him so they could do something about it before it was too late. Mia decides it's time to lay on the emotional blackmail.
MIA: We can still get out of this.
ZEKE: What do you mean?
MIA: If we both just say nothing.
ZEKE: Mia...
MIA: [desperate] If they can't prove which one of us did it then they can't get either of us. This is our last chance, Zeke. We can still be together if you just keep quiet.
Zeke looks troubled.
