Previously on Neighbours
Declan dismissing Kate telling him that Donna is one of them.
Steph telling Lucas that there is something she needs to tell him.
Callum is trying to find out details of Toadie's trip but he's getting nothing out of him. Toadie instead turns the conversation around by asking how Callum is getting on at high school but Callum is then ordered into his room when an angry looking Lucas (followed by Steph) bursts into the house and punches Toadie!
CALLUM: What did you do that for?!
Lucas leaves as quickly as he arrives and Steph checks to see how Toadie is. Callum wants answers but Toadie isn't saying and sends him off to the laundry with his washing instead.
TOADIE: We need to start telling people.
Kate is spring cleaning starting with dumping Donna's belongings back in #22 (a ‘Donna clean') because she's still peeved at Donna not coming home when she said so. Declan sarcastically remarks that it isn't like Donna to change her mind!
It looks like its revelation time as Summer, Callum and Lyn sit on one sofa with Toadie and Steph on the other one. Steph begins by apologising for what she's put her mum through when she took off. Lyn asks why and Toadie tells Steph to start at the beginning.
Steph begins by saying that she and Lucas getting together after everything was a bit overwhelming and she needed to get away.
We then go into flashback mode of Steph telling Toadie about her drinking session with Dan in Charlie's after she spotted Lucas and Libby kissing. He's as stunned as she was back then but Steph does add that she found out later on it didn't mean anything. She then tells him that she was stupid as she went to Dan's room and wishes that she could take it back. He's struggling to believe she had a one night stand with Dan although she quickly adds that it was after he and Libby had split up. “Oh Toadie I'm just so stupid” she cries and asks that he doesn't tell Libby. Toadie reassures her things will be fine but Steph replies it isn't… because she's pregnant!
“And that's why I called Toadie” Steph tells them when we return from flashback mode but of course they don't know what the viewers now do. Lyn is still puzzled as the duo say that they did a lot of talking and thinking when they were away.
Back in flashback mode, Toadie says that they need a plan. Steph thinks she can't return home – what is she going to say to Libby!
STEPH: I have thought through all the options, Toad, and there is nothing that's good for me and the baby. And now I have to go through with it or I could get sick again. And then what if something does happen to me, what about Charlie? I'm all he's got.
Steph is getting very upset now and Toadie immediately consoles her and again says they need a plan.
STEPH: I don't need a plan, I need a father.
Toadie suggests Lucas but Steph rules that one out as they haven't done the deed so he comes up with another suggestion.
TOADIE: Max. Yes Max. Nobody on the street sees him or talks to him.
STEPH: So what do I say?
TOADIE: That you ran into him while you were here, you had a fling. (At her look) He was your husband… so most importantly nobody on the street will be able to say it didn't happen.
And back from flashback mode, a puzzled Lyn wants to know if Lucas is the problem, why did she tell him that she was coming home? Lyn also adds that he was pretty upset when Steph then changed her mind and Summer wonders if it was her, because Steph didn't want to see her. Steph immediately rejects Sum's suggestion then adds that she just needed some more time.
We then go back into flashback mode again to just after Steph phoned to say she was coming back. Steph tells Toadie the news that Summer is in Ramsay Street, thus throwing a mega spanner in their plan!
STEPH: God what am I going to do?
Toadie then thinks for a bit then comes up with a new plan…
TOADIE: Tell them the baby's mine.
Back to #26 and Steph explains that she confronted her issues about running away over Lucas although Lyn is just as puzzled!
And in flashback land, Steph asks Toadie why he wants to do what he is suggesting.
TOADIE: Because this is you Steph, you're my best friend. I'd do anything for you. And Libby's like my sister, she's just lost her husband; she's just lost a baby, she can't lose any more. (Steph shakes her head) So we go back, we tell everybody the news and then in a couple of months we tell them about the pregnancy.
STEPH: What about Sonya? (Toadie shakes his head) You really like her.
TOADIE: Don't. I like lots of girls.
TOADIE: Don't worry about it alright. (Pause) What about Lucas, you love him?
Steph takes a few deep breaths after Toadie says that then asks that he holds her, which he does.
STEPH: We're lying to everyone.
TOADIE: Just not each other.
And back in #26, the duo are being very lovey- dovey with each other and Steph then blurts it out that it isn't Lucas she's in love with but Toadie!
LYN: (puzzled) Are you…
SUMMER: Are you guys back together?
STEPH & TOADIE: Ah- ha.
LYN: (stunned) Oh my…
SUMMER: (happy) That is so cool (going over to hug them). I'm like your love angel; every time I come back you guys get back together.
Declan is taking Kate out for a drive on the pretence of having lunch but when they stop, it isn't for lunch but to meet Donna. Kate gives her a very cool reception when they first meet but seconds later they're tucking into the food Kate brought (for her lunch with Declan) like they'd never had a fight.
Donna thanks her for coming and that she has every right to be angry at her, even joking at her ‘Donna clean'. Kate replies that there is something else too – she thought Declan was asking her out on a date. Donna then gives her boy sympathy before admitting that she's scared to come home (Kate asked when she was returning) and suggests that they go for a coffee so Kate can continue to unload her boy problems onto her.
Declan just smiles and half- laughs as they go off arm in arm together.
Steph is taking the recycling out when she runs into Lucas who is there to collect his things. Things are very awkward between them but she tells him that she's glad to see him walking again. He replies back that his motivation to walk was her and sarcastically says he is glad she strung him along for so long otherwise he'd still be on crutches. She tries to apologies but Lucas doesn't want to hear it, he's just there to collect his stuff so he can then be out of her life forever.
Callum is quizzing Toadie on him being back with Steph since he liked Sonya. Toad explains it that his feelings for Steph never went away. He asks if Sonya will still be his friend and if she will get angry like Lucas did and he replies that Sonya will still be his friend and lies that she isn't angry because he called her while they were away and sorted things out with her.
CALLUM: I'm glad she's not mad.
TOADIE: Yes, me too.
Lyn is subtly trying to quiz Charlie on what they did while away but Steph quickly interrupts and sends her son off to play with Harvey. Alone, Steph asks if she wanted to know what happened when she was away, why Lyn doesn't just ask her. “And would you tell me the truth,” Lyn quickly replies back then when Steph plays dumb, Lyn explains that she's having trouble accepting that Steph is suddenly back with in love with Toadie. “Well what else can I say” Steph replies to that but Lyn has a theory it's to do with Lucas (Lyn saw how crazy they were for each other) and wants to know what is going on.
Commercial break later over a cuppa, Steph confirms that there was something special between Lucas and herself. She goes on to say that she got confused between caring for Lucas and being his carer but Lyn replies that Lucas doesn't see it that way. “I'm sorry for that,” Steph says then adds that the two of them are better at being mates anyway, which Lucas will realise eventually.
Satisfied with that, Lyn now moves onto Steph and Toadie. “Mum, you know our history” and Lyn reminds her about history – breaking up with Toadie because there wasn't passion in the relationship and Steph not wanting to settle for second best. “Things are different now” Steph tells her.
STEPH: What Toadie and I have is so much more than passion, we're soul mates.
Lyn doesn't exactly believe the spiel, so Steph adds on about Toadie giving her stability especially with a young son. “Steph you worry me” she tells her daughter and Steph looks at her puzzled.
LYN: Before you went away you were happy, I mean as happy as I'd ever seen you.
STEPH: (interrupting) Mum, mum I am happy now. Toadie's given me something so, so special. Just… just be happy for us.
“Okay” replies Lyn but it isn't exactly convincing.
Donna confirms that she will be back in a few more days; she just needs some more time. She hugs Declan and Kate goodbye before departing. Alone, Declan asks if Kate is angry with him for not telling her what was going on but she's okay with it.
Number 26 (at night)
Summer answers the door to Lucas (he's round to get the last of his stuff) and Lyn sends Summer off on an errand so she can talk to Lucas alone. She confirms to him that Steph isn't home and when he says that he's nowhere to go, tells him that he's staying here and she'll sort Steph out!
Callum is showing Toadie what he's been up to at high school and he's most impressed. Toadie heads off to make the popcorn to accompany their wrestling DVD they plan to watch when Lyn arrives. She tells them that Lucas is staying on for one more night and asks if Steph and Charlie can stay at #30. Charlie and Callum are happy at that arrangement while Steph and Toadie put on false smiles to show they too are happy with what Lyn has planned.
Number 30 (night time)
Toadie is uncomfortably trying to sleep on the sofa and up like a shot when he hears movements, but its just Steph – she can't sleep either.
Steph admits that their plan feels all wrong now it's being put into practice. “It's not wrong, it's just awkward” remarks Toadie.
STEPH: You reckon?
TOADIE: Wrong would be losing Libby as your friend and completely stuffing up your life.
STEPH: What if Libby doesn't believe us tomorrow?
TOADIE: We just have to make sure she does.
STEPH: Yes but it's just not her but everyone else too.
TOADIE: It's too late now Steph.
STEPH: I just hate lying.
TOADIE: Hey, hey, hey, come on. We'll get used to it… with everyone… all of the time.
And when the titles go up there is an addition to the cast – Summer Hoyland: Jordy Lucas
