Number 28
Zeke is in his bedroom, on his laptop looking at a bank account which is over $2k in credit, seemingly his. Susan walks in with a pile of stuff that belongs to Zeke and he reprimands her for not knocking. She apologises, she didn't know he was here. Shouting, Zeke tells his mum that he is here, and shouting back she reminds him that if he cleaned up after himself she wouldn't need to disturb him at all.
Shamed, Zeke follows her out to the lounge, where Susan's folding washing. He apologises, and Susan kindly asks him what's going on. He says it's nothing, and at that point Sunny comes out of her room having not slept too well.
Susan says that she heard Sunny was lost the other day, and pulls Zeke up on not showing their guest around. Sunny makes it clear that she didn't want Zeke around, and he pulls an 'I told you so' face at his mum. Talking of school, which they weren't, Susan tells the kids that Dan wants them at school for auditions.
SUNNY: Oh, I don't do theatre.
SUSAN: Oh. Er, well...it's your new school, it would be good for you to just check it out. Okay?
She makes a face at Zeke to encourage Sunny, and walks off with the washing basket. Just delighted at that idea, Zeke doesn't follow it up. Instead:
ZEKE: Hey, if I needed some money...
SUNNY: I'd get a loan.
Yep. Not quite what he was asking, methinks.
Erinsborough High
New promoted Principal Dan - who is inexplicably in charge of the school play, what with all the other really unimportant things he might have to do as Principal, like budget setting, policy writing and parent-teacher relations - is reading a book on amateur dramatics for beginners.
He can hear the queues of auditionees outside the classroom, and sighing nervously, goes to tackle them. They will be auditioning today for Agamemnon, Clytaemnestra and Cassandra.
Steve comes in to see Dan, Dan wants him to be a production manager for the school play.
STEVE: Mate, I've got a business to run. (thinks) What does it involve?
DAN: Well, as far as I can tell it seems to mostly involve saying 'no'.
STEVE: Well...have you thought of asking Miranda?
Dan face is not too keen.
STEVE: Nah, mate, just kidding.
Steve doesn't know what to do or how to help, but he's rescued by the entrance of Cass, who has brought along Donna to audition in full Greek tragedy garb. Donna is embarrassed beyond belief, but Cass storms on - she's drawn costumes for the supporting roles and she's happy to make them, something that Dan is thrilled about. Dan asks her to watch the kids audition.
Cut to later where Declan is auditioning for Agamemnon. Badly. Dan and Donna are shocked at the badness of the bad audition which was very bad.
DECLAN: How did I go?
DAN: Um...if you're on the shortlist I'll give you a bell tonight.
DECLAN: Should I be hanging around the phone, or...
DAN: Probably not.
Donna comes up to read for the part of Cassandra; she doesn't need the text, she knows it by heart. She starts to audition, but her irritating mother keeps interrupting with helpful hints which are very unhelpful. Dan tries to stop her, but decides to take a break with the auditions when Cass clearly can't keep her giant mouth shut.
Number 28
In his bedroom again, Zeke looks thoughtfully at Guy's number - 0491 570 156 for anyone who wants to drop a deranged gunman a line - and calls him. Zeke has a wad of notes next to him, $2k, which he's clearly taken from his own account, but Guy's not interested...he wants the full lot. However, he'll take the money as a first installement.
Erinsborough High
Donna is auditioning for the part of Cassandra, well. At the end, everyone claps her and the other students go up and surround her, telling her she was really good. Cass tries to look proud, but seems more hacked off that the attention isn't on her.
Lassiter's
Outside Harold's store, Toadie and Callum arrive for muffins. Toadie goes to order whilst Callum clears a table outside, Guy watching him. Guy comes out and offers to help clear the table with him, but luckily for Callum Toadie comes straight back out to rescue his son.
Guy threatens Callum that he'll come after him if he doesn't get his cash, and seeing Zeke across Lassiter's, chases him. Toadie tells Callum the whole incident was nothing.
Number 28
Back in Ramsay Street someone has decided to finally tell Susan the truth about what's been going on. Toadie tells Susan that Zeke isn't auditioning at the school play like she thinks, he's at Harold's Store. Just at that moment Zeke walks in the back door and Toad announces that her son was going to meet Guy Sykes.
Horrified, Susan demands he tell her what's going on, and Zeke admits that Guy is threatening Katya. Susan wants to go to the police, and Toadie reminds Zeke that he can't protect Katya. Zeke confesses that he doesn't have the money to pay Guy off anyway, not even close.
SUSAN: Right, we'll call the police, Sykes will go back to jail, and everyone will be safe.
Charlie's
Steph, Toad and Callum are at a table, and Toadie has explained that Guy shot him in the back. Callum is very excited that Toadie has a scar, and wants to know if he sets off metal detectors at airports! Toad makes it clear that Callum needs to steer clear of Guy, just in case.
Callum goes off to get chips, whilst Steph wonders if Guy will stay around. Elle comes in, wanting to know (as a journalist) what's going on. Toadie ignores her and takes Callum home. Elle pursues Steph instead, but she walks out too.
Number 24
Cass is on the sofa, sketching out costumes. Donna is on the phone clearly taking more compliments from friends who saw her audition at school.
CASS: Hey darling, when you're finished with your fan club, can you just come and have a look at these?
Donna comes over, but gets a nice text from Declan, too. Cass isn't pleased. Dan comes over to see Donna, which annoys Cass even more as she was hoping he was here to see her sketches.
Dan tells Donna that she is on the callback list for the part; he hands her the text for tomorrow, and offers to help her with it later that evening after dinner because she's not sure where Cassandra is coming from in that part of the play. Donna's phone rings again, and she tells a friend she's on the callback list. Cass' lips, meanwhile, form a manipulative smile.
Number 28
Snr Sgt Caskey - in rather informal attire for a police interview, I might add - is sitting with Susan, Zeke and Toadie, questioning Zeke about Guy. She makes it clear that without proof they cannot revoke his parole; they'll need Zeke's help with that. They could set him up to come and get the money, and the police will record it, get the evidence and arrest Guy.
Susan refuses that, it puts Zeke in too much danger.
SUSAN: I've lost you once. Never again.
But despite Susan's indignance, Zeke insists: it's the only way they will get Sykes off their backs for good. (Well, until next parole time, surely?) Susan wonders what Toadie thinks, and he agrees with Zeke and Caskey.
Number 22
Elle is showing Lucas a picture of Guy Sykes and reminding him of what he did to the Kennedys and Toadie, just for viewers who weren't watching back then. She also comments that there's an unmarked police car outside the Ks' place right now.
LUCAS: If it's unmarked, how do you know it's a police car?
ELLE: Because I'm a journalist.
LUCAS: You looked through the window?
ELLE: I have an enquiring mind, and a great eye for detail.
Elle is frustrated that the story of the year is about to happen, and all Lucas wants to do is eat his lunch.
LUCAS: (with a mouthful) Oh, can you get me some mayonnaise, I think it's in the fridge.
Elle decides to take Lucas' camera to get the pictures outside that she wants, but he won't let her, so has to reluctantly join her.
Number 28
Back at the Kennedys, Zeke is calling Guy to set up the meeting. It's not even being recorded, which seems like shoddy police work to me, but what would I know. Zeke tells Guy that he had to stay and explain himself to Toadie, but he's ready to meet now. He has the money, and he'll meet Sykes at the oval near Harringtons at 6pm.
Susan is concerned that something might go wrong, and that Zeke will be in danger. But it's okay, because Snr Sgt Caskey has a dictaphone on which Zeke can record everything, and clearly that will save his life. Just how many things seem wrong with this police operation to you? They're leaving a kid to record it? Don't they have slightly more sophisticated recording equipment for a known gun wielding maniac who's threatening children?!!?
Caskey tells Zeke to get Guy to make a threat, or admit the money's from criminal sources. Without making any other arrangements, she leaves. What the......??!!?!?
Zeke goes to the kitchen, followed by Sunny who has been listening from the sofa. She asks if he's okay, and says she would have lent him the money. $20k, he wonders? By the look on her face Sunny does have that kind of cash, but Zeke doesn't click onto that fact.
Caskey returns with a small paper bag, probably containing a ham sandwich to take to the oval for his dinner. Or perhaps $20k. Who knows.
Ramsay Street
Lucas and Elle sit in a car across from the Kennedys'. Despite being fewer than 10 metres away from the police car, Lucas takes pictures with a very long lens camera. Elle admits she doesn't know what the story is, but she knows it's something.
Susan, Toad, Caskey and Zeke come out from the house, and Zeke takes off in a yellow cab, driven by the police. Caskey drives off in her car. Susan and Toadie go back to the house, whilst Elle decides to follow the cars to get her story.
Number 28
Inside the house, Susan is worried that Karl will never forgive her for letting this happen. Steph comes in and wants to see how Susan's doing. She thinks that Zeke is very brave...but how come she knew about this already?! Did someone call her? Susan says she doesn't want Zeke to be brave, she wants him to be safe.
The oval, near Harringtons
Caskey switches the dictaphone on for Zeke, then sticks him in the taxi to be taken out of sight - to a location fewer than 2 metres from where they're standing. How would Guy have NOT seen that?! Caskey and another officer 'hide' behind a tiny tree. Mmmmm. Well disguised.
Zeke gets out the car and wanders into the oval, but there's no sign of Guy. However, Elle and Lucas - with his very long lens camera - are mooching around the bushes. They take pictures of Zeke standing alone in the oval when Guy cycles up. Zeke goes to hand the money over, and tries to get him to admit where the money's from, or make some sort of threat, but Sykes gives nothing away.
Lucas realises he can't get a good enough shot, so Elle pushes him out into the open to get the picture she needs. Buy Guy spots them and cycles away without taking the cash.
Confused, Zeke turns around to see Elle and Lucas there with the camera. He screams at them: 'what have you done?!'
