Race Track
Zoooom, zoom, zoooooom, (it's not often I can provide you with sound effects) the boys are still racing, the girls are still worried. They approach TheCornerOfNearDeath™ and Steph says they should be breaking. Elle is sure Dan wouldn't let the same thing happen again. Lucas is ahead and hangs tight into the corner forcing Dan to ease off, or repeat what happened years ago.
Since this is all action and no talk, maybe now would be a good time for a voice over of reflection!
DAN VO: We had an unspoken agreement, we'd never enter the same race.
LUCAS VO: It was there to be won. Why wouldn't I?
DVO: Lucas was good, but far too cocky.
LVO: Dan knew I was the better rider.
DVO: He was always after Dad's approval.
LVO: Losing didn't go down well with Dad. That's why Dan was so desperate to win.
DVO: I just wanted Dad to shake my hand.
They approach the finishing line, and Lucas is the winner. Callum points out that to win, Dan should have gone faster. Far from being happy at winning, Lucas accuses Dan of letting him win. So they have a fight, as they do. Elle tells them to grow up and storms off. Dan tells Libby that he didn't let Lucas win, and she knows.
Number 30
Libby applies first aid to Dan's fat lip and tells him not to get into any more fights. Dan thinks the race was all for nothing, as it didn't sort things out between them. Libby says that it doesn't have to be for nothing, Lucas wants to believe it, he's just stubborn. She decides it's time to go. Dan tells her he's been an idiot and holds out the engagement ring to her again.
LIBBY: I'm not second prize, Dan.
DAN: That's not what this is about. I don't want to lose you. Would you put the ring on please?
Libby tells him she'll think about it and departs.
Charlie's
Lucas orders a beer without the lecture. Yup, he really understands the Ramsay Street ways now. Steph can't resist the lecture anyway and states that neither of them are idiots and having seen plenty of bike races she knows for a fact that it wasn't a throw away. She tells him that he needs to grow up and learn who he is when he's not hating his brother.
Toadie and Callum are talking homework, which is just as well as Kelly turns up and suggests that Callum could write about the race and read it to her. She also happens to be selling a motorised Esky. For when too much beer is not enough - I suppose she'll have a buyer in Toadie then! His phone rings, he'll have to get back to work. Kelly suggests Callum stay at Charlie's with her for a bit.
KELLY: Sooo, Callum, what would you like.
CALLUM: (all angelic like) A chocolate sundae please Miss Katsis.
The General Store
The Parkers and Rebecca are all wiggling their fingers at poor Chloe and think it's hilarious. Mickey calls Bridget over to see. Steve says they spoke to Karl and there's a dramatic pause. He thinks work experience at the hospital is great news! Carmella thanks them for looking after Chloe and asks Bridget if she's alright, she seems a bit upset. She says it's just a fight with the girls. Miranda suggests a walk with them and Chloe, but Bridget says she's meeting Declan in 15 mins. Rebecca decides to stay as well and when the Parkers are gone she wants to know what's really wrong as Declan is at footy training for ages yet.
As they leave the store, Bridget reminds Rebecca of when she told them not to rush the physical stuff. Well they did. Rebecca processes this and says whatever it is, she can tell her. Bridget says nothing and Rebecca's face slowly changes as realisation dawns. (All credit to Jane Hall in this scene, she's just spot on.)
REBECCA: You're not...pregnant?
Bridget's silence and quivering lip says it all.
REBECCA: You and Declan? (She seems close to tears and whispers) Are you sure?
She pulls Bridget into a hug and Didge dissolves into tears. Passing by, Elle looks on relieved to see that Bridget is beginning to open up. And as another side note, Elle really has been brilliant through all this too.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kelly is looking worried as Toadie hurries in. She tells him Karl thinks it's probably nothing. Just too much chocolate topping. Toadie looks suspicious and apologises for landing her with Callum. Karl comes over to speak to them. Toadie asks what the prognosis is. Karl looks amused.
KARL: Well....
Back in the consultation room Callum says he's feeling pretty good, much better, and wonders if they can go. Karl is afraid it's not as simple as that. Toadie says that Karl told them the disease is spreading.
KARL: It starts with the stomach pain.
TOADIE: The severe stomach pain.
KELLY: And then there's the moaning and the funny little cough.
KARL: And suddenly everything seems to be alright.
TOADIE: But it's not. It's far from alright.
CALLUM: I'm fine?
KARL: Of you will be. After the operation.
CALLUM: Operation?!
Karl asks Toadie to pass him a scalpel and as big a needle as Kelly can find.
CALLUM: Don't operate. Ok, don't operate! I made it all up.
When Toadie asks why, Callum explains that it was so that Toadie and Kelly would get their act together and get together. Things get a bit awkward so both Toadie and Kelly decide to go and sign Callum out, but clash at the door and oh no! It's even more awkward. Karl tells Callum that although he knows he was just trying to help Toadie, he must never do that again.
AFL Training Ground
...the home of the ManLegging™. Sexy. Yeah, so the footie blokes are all running. Ringo puts a sprint on as the end is in sight and then goes all heaving and wheezy and green looking as if I've just run for 30 seconds. Declan asks if he's alright. Ringo says he's just pushed a bit too hard. The coach pulls Declan aside to ask what's up with Ringo and if they're hiding any(DARK SECRETS)thing. The coach says that loyalty to friends is great, but loyalty to the club comes first and if they find he's been hiding anything its going to be hard to justify offering him a place on the team.
Charlie's
STEPH: You're insane.
DAN: It's a brother thing, Steph.
STEPH: It's an ego thing, Daniel.
DAN: Wish me luck.
Steph wishes him luck and Dan goes over to join Lucas.
LUCAS: How's the lip?
DAN: Fat.
LUCAS: Want a rematch?
DAN: Mmhmm, my bike's outside. Three laps around Lassiters.
Dan sits down and tells Lucas that he won fair and square. Lucas says, no, he eased off. Dan reminds him that he had to otherwise they'd have just had a repeat of the last race. He did what he should have done the first time, give the guy in front right of way. He takes a deep breath and clears his throat.
DAN: You won because you're the better rider. Only just.
Lucas seems touched in a manly sort of way and tells his brother to stop yabbering and get him another beer. Dan thinks that since he gave him a fat lip, it's his round. Aww! Brothers!
AFL Training Ground
The footy blokes are running again. At the finishing line Ringo does his "ZOMGIcan'tbreatheohheckIthinkI'mdyingHeeeeyuuuhhhh" pant pant pant deal again. Declan tells him that it's crazy; he needs to tell the coach about his history. Ringo doesn't want to blow his chances but Declan tells him that the coach already knows there's something wrong. Ringo pushes him away and the coach comes over. Declan says it's just a private disagreement but Ringo caves and say that his body isn't coping and explains he had an eating disorder. The coach does the "you LIED to me..both of you!" schpiel and Ringo says not to kick Declan out. The coach decides who goes and stays and doesn't like either of their chances.
Number 30
Toadie is reading the leaflet about the Esky. Callum wants to know if an hour has passed yet, but he is sentences to twenty more minutes of homework. Callum says he really is sorry.
General Store
Carmella jokes with Lou that she could do with one of those fridges with wheels on it. What a coincidence, Kelly is sitting right there with one for sale. She thought she had a buyer but he hasn't called her back. Lou aka "Cupid", suggests she ring him. Maybe she should.
Number 30/ General Store
Doh! They're ringing each other at the same time so get each other's voicemail. The do do duh duh do smooth music commences as Toadie leaves his message.
TOADIE: Ah yeah, G'day, it's Toadie, just ringing about the Esky. Thought maybe we should get together...
KELLY: Hi, it's Kelly. Thought I'd offer you that Esky at a discount...
TOADIE: I'm really not too sure where you stand on haggling, personally I love it. So maybe you could come over and we could...haggle.
KELLY: I'm open to haggling but it's a bargain anyway so...
TOADIE: Ok, call me.
KELLY: Call me.
They end the calls and realise that oh look, they have called one another! So, haggling eh? That's what they're calling it these days. Callum wants to know who was on the phone and correctly guesses it was Kelly. He goes back to his room triumphant. Toadie is similarly gleeful.
Charlie's
Libby and Steph are watching Dan and Lucas talking when Elle arrives. She wants to know what's going on with the blokes. Lucas comes over to the bar. Libby congratulates him on riding a good race. Lucas likes to think that the better man won, but Libby is sure that Dan will have his day, and with that she goes over to speak to Dan. Lucas sidles up to Elle and comments that she didn't hang around long. She says she got bored. Lucas wonders if she came by to see how he was, she says she's there on business and now she's leaving. He tell her that he's good, just so she knows. Ooo, sometimes you'd just like it slap his smug face. I'm sure Elle will one day.
Libby is glad to see that Dan took her advice. He says that Lucas is stubborn, like her. We get a shot of Libby's unringed fingers and Dan asks if she's thought enough yet.
LIBBY: You know, Lucas thinks that the best man won. But I don't. I think you're the finest man I know. And I'm so sick of not being with you. I need to marry you. I need to know that we're going to be together forever.
Dan thinks it's lucky that he has the ring on him then. He presents the ring to her again (third time's a charm eh?) but she has a condition, and pulls out a ring for him too. They slide the rings onto each others fingers and seal the deal with a smooch. And I have such a sense of déją vu. Haven't I summarised this before?
Steph applauds and tells them not to stuff it up this time and Lucas raises his glass to them.
Number 26
Rebecca tells Bridget that the sooner she tells her parents the sooner she'll have their support. She assures Bridget that her parents love her and asks about Declan. Bridget asks about his plans for his AFL career. Rebecca doesn't have an answer for that other than she can't shut him out because it's not fair to either of them.
REBECCA: When I was pregnant with Declan there was no question of having his father involved. I think you're so lucky. You've got so much more support than I had.
The Parkers arrive home with Mickey complaining that Chloe can't even kick a football. Poor Chloe seems to be the spectre of this storyline. Miranda continues in her overly chirpy manner and hands Chloe to Bridget again. Rebecca tells Didge to use the support she has, and Didge decides its time to see Declan.
AFL Training Ground
It's another running test. This time it's just between Declan and Ringo. It's their last shot. Ringo apologises to Declan. The coach wants to see some commitment. They start to run, but Dec falls over. Ringo stops to help him up and they run the rest together.
COACH: What was that?
RINGO: I thought he could be hurt.
COACH: Would you do that in the game?
RINGO: Probably.
DECLAN: Me too.
COACH: Good. Never leave a team mate while he's down.
Well that's a turn around! The coach explains that the team is only offering one position, but he's going to get another position opened up, because he wants them both. The boys go all guppy, then hug it out, overjoyed. Declan sees Didge sitting in the stands and runs over to her and whisks her around. She smiles but then looks serious again. He asks what's up. She takes a moment and then.
BRIDGET: I'm pregnant.
