Recap
- Valda arrives leaving Lou gobsmacked
- Janae upset that Steph won't fight for Stingray's wall
- Justin and his brothers cornering Bridget and Declan
Abandoned Car Park
Bridget stupidly goads Justin and his silent brothers even more, much to Declan's chagrin. Eventually Justin cracks and leads Crabbe and Goyle on a chase after our dynamic duo. Bridget and Declan run for their lives over a hedge.
Number 30
Frazer and Rosie start to niggle at one another about Frazer's money when they realise they're being lame and resolve to sort it out later like mature adults. Diana appears to give Rosie a lift to work and informs her that her ex is offering her a class action case to work on. Rosie thinks it's a fantastic opportunity but Diana reveals that she turned it down.
Grassy Knoll
Declan and Bridget run and hide behind a big dumpster, laughing when Justin and his cronies can't find them. They make googly eyes at one another, caught up in the adrenaline of the moment. Declan notices a scratch on Bridget's neck and tenderly strokes it, telling her she should get it checked out. More googly eyes are shared before they make their way back to the car.
Charlie's
Frazer bumps into Theo, an old gambling mate of his. Sending Ollie off to the bar, Frazer sits down for a quick catch-up. Turns out that Theo owes Frazer quite a bit of dosh, so Theo offers to make things square by informing Fraze of a fixed race he can bet on. Frazer is wary but the lure of making a large sum of money intrigues him all the same and he takes down Theo's number.
Frazer rejoins Ollie at the bar just as Mickey wanders in and asks the boys to sign his petition to save Stingray's wall.
MICKEY: It commemorates a very special person in the neighbourhood. The fascist council want to paint over it.
FRAZER: (amused) The fascists do? What might a 'fascist' be, Mick?
Mickey shrugs as the boys laughingly agree to sign. Ned catches up with Janae, concerned about her petitioning on Steph's turf. Janae believes that all is fair in love and war, and will only compromise with Ned and move to the General Store if he gets her 1000 signatures.
FRAZER: (smirking) Hey Ned Ned Wine! Give those pants a good iron before you let Janae wear them?
NED: You know, that would be offensive coming from anyone else, Fraze. But from you it's just kinda sad.
(He and Frazer swap smug looks)
OLIVER: (grinning) You know that's true. It's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.
FRAZER: (dry) Yeah I get it.
General Store
Diana explains to Rosie that her and her ex haven't talked much since the divorce, so his offer came out of the blue.
Toadie (sitting with Steph, Valda and Charlie) suddenly stands up and announces to the shop that he and "Steph Scully" are officially engaged. Way to make another public announcement to make Steph uncomfortable, Toad. Everyone rushes over to congratulate them as Steph smiles through her awkwardness.
Rosie grins her way back to Diana, exclaiming what a happy couple Toadie and Steph will make. But Diana seems a bit wistful with all the marriage-related joy in the air and makes a quick escape back to the office.
Elle gushes over Steph and asks where the ring is and when the big day will occur, but Steph is a bit vague and non-committal on both accounts. Elle's face is like, "Oh, well, that's... nice?"
Janae and Mickey (wearing cute 'save the wall' t-shirts) arrive with their petitions causing much more awkwardness to ensue. Valda asks what wall they're on about and Janae sneeringly explains it's the one Steph turned her back on. Valda tries to stick up for Steph but Lou quickly butts in...
LOU: Oh here we go, we're an expert on councils now are we? Well when I was mayor of Erinsborough...
VALDA: (interrupting) Who finished up in jail as I remember.
Steph tries to tell Janae that she did all she could but Janae won't have a bar of it. She informs Steph that she has every right to fight and she won't stop till she wins. Ghetto hip-hop music suddenly plays as a music outro, complimenting Janae's bad-ass attitude.
Abandoned Car Park
Bridget and Declan banter their way back to the car when Declan notices Justin's crew has spray painted graffiti all over it. Declan freaks out and starts to blame Bridget - she was the one who threw her drinks and made them angry in the first place. Bridget holds her own and fights back with him.
BRIDGET: Unlike some people who are all talk, I'm not about to run away like a big girl...
DECLAN: Like a what? Bridge, huh, like a girl? Is that what you're gonna say?
Uh, she kind of just did, Dec.
DECLAN: Because I don't know if you've realised but you ARE!
Bridget looks very offended and surprised by his aggro tone, and Declan looks like he knows he went too far, but he gives her backpack back anyway and drives off without her.
General Store
Mickey scams a free ice-cream sundae from his 'Pop' while Toadie cryptically tells Steph that he's just got to duck off somewhere (it wouldn't happen to be work would it, Toad? Rosie and Diana seem to be holding the fort without you). Valda tries to cheer Steph up and tells her that she's just got to do what's best for her.
Janae gets a call on her mobile, and by the look of things it ain't good news. She drags Ned outside with her as Steph follows in concern. Intrigued, Elle puts in a call to someone and tells them to get down to Lassiter's right away.
Stingray's Wall
Janae has sprawled herself across the wall so the random extras can't cover it in paint. Riley saunters down and thanks Elle for calling him - the story is quite a scoop. The silent extras start up some machinery thing that looks like it'll shower the whole wall with paint. Janae growls at them and Ned quickly steps in and tells them to back off for a sec. He thinks Janae is brave but wonders if she should give up before she gets hurt.
JANAE: (defiant) If I give up now it'd be like saying, 'Oh, sorry Scott, it all just got a bit hard'. So I'm not doing it. And if Sky or Dylan or Mum or Bree or any of them, if they were here they'd do the same. I'm the only one left who'll fight.
NED: (persuaded) No you're not.
He joins her and Janae pleads with Steph to reconsider.
JANAE: Steph, if Stingray were standing here now could you honestly look him in the eye and say, 'Sorry mate, it's just politics'?
If Stingray were standing there right now I'd be all, 'OMG you're alive!' and be kind of happy to trade in the wall... but that's just me. Jackie the council lady (who has suddenly rocked up) tries to keep Steph grounded and her and Janae play the angel and the devil on Steph's very confused shoulders.
Lassiter's Car Park
Bridget and Declan meet up again and bicker about who is to blame - begrudgingly knowing they both were. Feeling guilty, Bridget tells him that she could ask Ned and Janae to fix it at cost price, but Declan doesn't want to get her in trouble with her parents. Besides, he's not exactly rolling in cash. Cue Bridget taking some fifties out of her pocket and handing them over - she emptied out her savings account for him.
Charlie's
Rosie is hanging out with Frazer when Diana stops by and tells Rosie that she'd like her to give a talk to some graduating law students at Melbourne Uni tomorrow. Rosie's stunned and feels underqualified for the task. But Diana counteracts that she's still passionate about the law, which works in her favour.
Theo shadily walks in and Frazer quickly explains to Rosie that he's an old mate. They go their separate ways and Frazer sidles up to Theo - he's still not agreeing to place the bet... but he wants to know more about the race.
Stingray's Wall
Constable Adam tells Ned and Janae that he'll have to arrest them if they don't stand aside. Mickey runs in and says he'll have to arrest him too. Ned and Janae are worried about getting him involved but Mickey is determined to help.
MICKEY: I'm staying with you. We can't let these men clean it off.
Soon all of the residents who are contracted for the episode are standing in front of the wall with Janae. Aww, you can feel the love and community spirit just radiating through the screen! Jackie starts to blah blah blah to Steph about more political hoo-hah, which eventually leads Steph into doing what she wanted to do all along - join everyone else in saving the wall.
Stingray's Wall - Night
Lou and Harold have started up a BBQ to feed the troops standing vigil at the wall. Mickey stands with Janae and asks her what Stingray was like.
JANAE: You've never seen anyone who could cause so much trouble. As soon as he walked out the door it was like 'Boom!' instant chaos. I wish you could have met him.
MICKEY: Me too.
JANAE: You know, after he died I thought I'd never get over it. I lost a big piece of my heart.
MICKEY: He'd be happy that you're getting into trouble for him.
JANAE: (smiling) I reckon he would.
Ned brings them over some sausages in bread to keep their strength up.
JANAE & MICKEY: Yum!
JANAE: You know that thing I said about that piece of my heart?
(Mickey nods)
JANAE: Well it wasn't missing for long, 'cause a certain someone came along and filled it right back up again.
MICKEY: Me?
JANAE: You.
Number 30
Rosie is talking Frazer through her presentation for the uni but she's still not convinced by her own abilities. Frazer boosts her confidence and says that she's the most fantastic and committed lawyer out there. She smiles and heads out to find something to wear for tomorrow. Frazer quietly takes out Theo's phone number and stares at it contemplatively.
Number 30
Valda and Toadie accidentally back into one another while collecting soft drinks behind the bar. They apologise and start to tease one another.
VALDA: I'll have to watch myself at home otherwise you'll be catching me in the nuddy.
TOADIE: Not if you don't catch me first!
VALDA: I'll be trying, son, I'll be trying.
Valda disappears into the kitchen to check on more food for the troops. Steph gets off the phone and dismally tells Toad she's burnt all her bridges at the council after he last little stunt. Wanting to cheer her up, Toadie takes her aside and pulls out an engagement ring. Surprised, Steph tells him she likes it but apologetically tells him she can't wear it. She sheepishly asks him just to be patient with her. Looking downcast, Toadie says he can't take it back but the discussion ends when Toadie gets a phone call and Janae and her crew barrel in: "Steph we won!" Steph rushes over for a hug while Riley gathers the group together for a photo - Adam included.
Toadie walks over to Steph after his call and tells her the council backed down because she dug her heels in. Elated in the moment, Steph tells him she'll keep the ring. Not to wear, but just as something special between them. Toadie kisses her, happy with this compromise.
Ramsay Street
Bridget opens up the morning paper, which has a picture of everyone in front of the wall - everyone bar Janae who was the most important person there! Nice work cadet Riley. Declan appears and Bridget thinks he's there to get more money from her, but he's actually swung by to return some to her. They'll share the blame and the costs. He admits that he likes the way she stands up for everything.
BRIDGET: Hasty words, you don't know me yet.
DECLAN: No... not yet.
Their little UST session is interrupted by Justin and his siblings hooning up the street. He's come by to challenge Declan to another drag race. Bridget laughs it off but it looks like Declan's going to accept the deal.
