Recap
Sky and Dylan are told that initial tests show Kerry's transplant was a success
Glenn looks at a pregnancy test
Stingray quietly passes away during Janelle's surprise birthday party
Stingray's Video Diary
Stingray, sitting in number 26, has made a diary so Kerry knows what they were all like before they were old and grey.
STINGRAY: Actually it's so you know how we felt on one of the best days in Timmins' family history: the day we found out you beat leukaemia. Yeah...it was a pretty ace day.
Ramsay Street
The partygoers stand around in a shocked silence as Stingray's body is wheeled into the back of a funeral directors' van. Bree, Janae and Zeke are ashen faced with shock. Sky and Dylan comfort each other, deep in contemplation. Steiger supports a stunned Janelle. Glenn, on the other side of the road, watches the scene as the van's door is closed. A clearly upset Ringo comforts Rachel. They watch as the van, followed by an ambulance, slowly pull away, then turn at the foot of the road and disappear out of sight.
The others slowly leave the street. Dylan hugs Sky. Janae looks utterly lost and, looking up, sees Glenn looking at her. Glenn gives her a sad sympathetic look but Janae doesn't look like she knows what to do with it and follows the others inside.
Tim Collins and Associates
Toadie is arguing on the phone with someone, saying they don't have a case. All of a sudden his expression turns serious and he sits down on his desk. He tells the person he has to call them back before ending the call. He tries to catch his breath, looking confused and troubled.
Stingray's Video Diary
Stingray tells Kerry that he owes Toadie everything; when no one else wanted him Toad took him in. He's unreal but Kerry shouldn't go telling him that! In all seriousness Stingray looks up to Toadie - he made something of himself and he respects that.
STINGRAY: And if it wasn't for him letting me stay here I would never have met your mum...Where do I start? Your mum is pretty much the best person on this earth...For her to love a hufter like me...it's more than I could have ever asked for. She's my best mate and the love of my life. And she's made me happier than I ever thought I could be.
Stingray gets tearful and tells Kerry not to tell anyone he got upset - it's just between them.
Hospital
Sky rushes in, crying, and scoops Kerry up into a hug. Harold asks why she isn't at the party and what's wrong. Sky, sobbing, can't answer.
Number 30 - Poolside
Ringo asks Rachel how a person can be there one minute and gone the next...then he realises it was a stupid thing to say. He thinks he's out of his depth and Rachel says it isn't anything you get used to. Remarkably composed she tells him she's alright - she's more worried about Stingray's family. Ringo says she's cool but she can talk about it. Rachel sharply tells him she's fine.
Ringo decides that she should give him a swimming lesson - it'll cheer her up. Rachel thinks it's cute but it might not be the best time. Ringo manages to convince her and he grabs onto the edge and kicks as she sits with her feet dangling in the water. As Ringo cheerily jokes about how well he's doing Rachel stares ahead and starts to cry. Ringo pulls her towards him as she starts to sob.
Stingray's Video Diary
Stingray talks about Bree, saying Kerry will grow up to be brainy like her. Although Bree doesn't feel like a real Timmins at times (because she's a million times smarter than them) she's what holds them together. The mixup at the hospital was the best thing that ever happened to them. Nana Janelle is more like a teenager than a grandmother so Bree's better to go to for advice. It's all very weird but they're a weird family, get used to it.
STINGRAY: I wouldn't have it any other way though.
Number 26
Back to the present and Dylan is telling Steiger that people don't die just like that; there must be a reason. Steiger says sometimes there isn't. It's just one of those things. But Dylan is convinced someone has messed up and he's going to find out who's responsible. Steiger tells him not to make this any worse for Janelle than it already is.
DYLAN: Worse? It's already as bad as it gets.
Dylan leaves, taking his keys with him.
Scarlet Bar Office
Boyd doesn't understand how Stingray could just die and Glenn suggests an aneurysm. Boyd muses that Janae must be going through hell and resolves to find her but Glenn doesn't think it's a good idea - Janae has made it clear what she wants from him. Boyd says that doesn't mean anything now. He should be there. Glenn thinks it might make things worse. Boyd tells her Janae was more than his wife - his family. Glenn corrects him by saying she *was* family and tells him she's there for him to lean on.
Out in the bar Toadie muses that Stingray was doing so well. He has to go to number 26. Paul asks Toadie to take something round and pulls out his chequebook - the Timmins might need extra cash. Toadie tells him that if he's so concerned about them he should be a man and deliver it himself.
Number 30
Rachel doesn't feel it's right to cry about your old boyfriend in front of your new one. Ringo thinks it would be wrong if she weren't upset, especially given Stingray was her first boyfriend. Rachel didn't even get to tell Stingray they were okay and she was happy for him and Sky. Ringo assures her Stingray knew that. Rachel needs to find a way to say goodbye..but she can't do that if they're together.
RINGO: Oh you're breaking up with me?
RACHEL: No...maybe.
Maybe just putting them on hold while she has some time to herself. Ringo agrees to it - whatever she needs, he's fine with it. But, as he watches her go, he looks far from fine about it.
Hospital
Lolly and Lou walk out of Kerry's room, pulling off their robes and hats. Lou suggests they go down the General Store to prepare some food. Although no one will want to eat it's the best thing for them.
In Kerry's room Sky cuddles her baby as she tells Harold she knew something was going to happen - she saw his name on the plaque. She could've stopped it. Harold reasons that it was an aneurysm that happened too quickly for them to stop it.
SKY: We were meant to spend the rest of our lives together.
HAROLD: I know, I know...
SKY: What am I gonna do?
Dylan rushes in demanding to know where Stingray's doctor is. She messed up and deserves what's coming to her. Sky tells him it wasn't her fault and Harold adds it was a tragedy that couldn't be prevented. Harold stands in Dylan's way to stop him but he tries to push him aside and Harold throws him to the ground, to Sky's shock. Harold apologises immediately as Sky comforts Dylan as he starts to cry.
Stingray's Video Diary
Stingray's now talking about Janae. Everyone writes her off as the kind of girl who only cares about how she looks (which is totally true) but she's a tough as you get - she's the one to go to if you're having trouble with romance.
STINGRAY: She'll fight for ya. She'll never stop fighting until she finds a way through.
And she always does. Stingray thinks she's an absolute legend.
Lassiter's
Cut to Janae sitting alone by the lake. Boyd approaches her and sits down. He tells her that he and Toadie both had weird moments before...
BOYD: ...Like the world went blank for a second. We reckon it must've been Stinger.
Janae is upset and Boyd apologises for having to go through this alone. Glenn spots them sitting together from afar. Janae wipes away her tears and gets up. Boyd holds onto her hand and offers her his support if she needs it. Janae attempts to smile before making a quick exit. Glenn unhappily watches Boyd sit for a moment, deep in thought.
Number 30
Ringo isn't sure whether he and Rachel are on hold as boyfriend and girlfriend or as friends as well. But he knows this is what Rachel needs. Lolly ribs him for his sacrifice and Ringo isn't impressed with her behaviour. Lolly thinks it might be for the best - it shouldn't be this hard this early on if Rachel really is *the one*. Ringo ponders this.
Number 26
Bree cradles Stingray's much-loved camera. Zeke tells her it'll get better but Bree would rather it went away altogether. She wants it to be this morning where she can start again. Zeke asks if she wants to see what's on Stingray's camera. Bree thinks it might make them sadder but Zeke thinks that Stingray would probably make them all laugh. Janae asks what's on the camera and Bree tearfully says they're going to find out.
Janelle rushes in, telling Steiger that she's going to go to the hospital; her boy needs her.
JANELLE: What is wrong with you bunch of sad sacks? He needs all of us!
STEIGER: Janelle, Scotty is gone. He's not coming back. I know you don't want to believe that - none of us do.
Janelle just stares at him.
JANELLE: I'm not giving up on him. You lot can but I'm not.
Janelle looks for her keys and Bree offers to come with them but Steiger says no. Janae tearfully tells Steiger that Janelle won't be able to take seeing Stingray is that state.
STEIGER: Maybe she has to.
Steiger follows Janelle and leaves.
Hospital
Sky, Dylan, Harold and Steiger are listening to Janelle as she tells them this is all a mistake that needs sorting out. Dylan offers to come with her and Janelle happily accepts. Sky tells her that Stingray is dead - it's not a mistake. Janelle points out that the dicey part was the operation and Stingray's going to fine; the docs told her so. Harold stresses that the doctors couldn't predict this.
JANELLE: He is going to be fine - he has to be. Now when they told me Dylan had died I believed them...look how that turned out. I'm not going to give up on another son. I can't.
Sky nods and says they'll go and see him together as a family.
Some time later Janelle slowly walks into the waiting area, alone. She sits down, expressionless in thought then closes her eyes, resigning herself to the truth.
Number 26
Stingray's skateboard and helmet are propped up against the wall, poignantly.
Inside the Timmins are getting ready to watch Stingray's video and Janae is worried about whether Janelle will be okay with watching it but Janelle says it's exactly what they need. Harold tells Sky that she's a wonderful girl and sits beside her as Lou and Toadie come in with food. Zeke and Bree put the video on but Bree realises Dylan isn't in the living room with them.
Dylan is in the kitchen and Paul walks in, letting himself through the back door (as you do). Paul tells him he's here to help and presents him with the cheque.
DYLAN: You do everything you can to bankrupt us and then you come around here with a cheque?
Paul tells him not to cash it if he doesn't want his money and leaves. Dylan scrunches it up.
Bree shouts to Dyl to get his butt in the living room. Stingray is talking about him, telling Kerry that dad's don't come much better than her's.
STINGRAY: I mean he pretty much beat the shizzle outta me for 15 years straight, but that's what brothers are for, right?
Janae and Sky are in tears.
STINGRAY: But, the way he looks at you, his little girl, he would lay down his life for you every single day for the rest of his life. That's a fact.
Janelle thinks Dyl needs to see this and asks someone to get him but Sky finds the kitchen deserted.
Scarlet Bar
That's because Dylan is here. He finds Paul, who thinks he's here to take a few more potshots at him. Dylan admits he was surprised about his offer and thanks him. Paul remarks it's a bit of a turnaround and Dylan says he was upset. The truth is he needs all the support he can get.
PAUL: Look, I am really sorry. Scott was a good kid...for a Timmins.
Dylan says he can't help himself. Paul thinks they were always good sparring partners but he's there for him anytime he needs him. Dylan says there *is* something - he has to take care of the funeral arrangements but can't face it alone.
PAUL: You won't have to. C'mon...
He leaves and Dylan looks back on after him with a mean look on his face.
Lassiter's
Dylan closes the passenger door of the car and gets into the driver's seat.
DYLAN: Got your seatbelt on, mate? I wouldn't want you to get hurt.
Inside we see that Paul is in the passenger's seat, all tied up and gagged. He tries to shout but Dylan can't make out a word he's saying beneath the masking tape. He drives off.
Stingray's Video Diary
STINGRAY: So that's it, Kez - that's your family. You're one of us now - bit of a curse, really but if you're gonna go through life with anyone you could do a lot worse. Next entry I'll give you some more of the fun stuff: Nana Janelle's fake boobs busting out, that kinda thing...Actually, come to think of it, Janelle's stuff ups is kinda a boxset in itself. But one thing you'll always know about her is how much she loves ya. She's a pretty ace lady when you think about it. And, when you get older, you can start recording your own stuff and we'll all be in it and it'll be cuban; your mum, you, me. Anyway (he gives the camera two thumbs up) cop ya!
Stingray turns off the camera, leaving only a fuzzy TV screen.
