Aaaaaa, Neighbours...
Balloon landing field
Steph and Max have just got off the balloon and are playing around and laughing as Janae and Toadie are watching them from afar. Janae tells her cousin it's over for him now, but he just asks her to go wait for him in the car while he takes care of this business with Steph. Janae heads off saying she's getting a taxi and Toadie starts walking over to Max and Steph who have now proceeded to rolling around on the ground where they're all cuddly. Just as they're about to get kissy, a determined Toadie gets closer and calls out Steph's name to get her attention. She seems shocked to find him there but before she can say much, Toadie falls over and Steph runs over to him to check how he's doing. A solemn Max is left behind to call an ambulance as Steph shushes Toadie when he tries to talk. Toadie refuses to listen though telling her he lied that day in the hospital and didn't mean anything he said because he does love her. He just wanted to make things easier for her and that she was going to choose Max over him, but now he knows he was wrong.
No. 24
Sky (with Kerry in her arms) is telling Harold how she's going to miss having Carmella stay with them since it was so nice to have another girl around the house that didn't vomit on her all the time. Harold says he thought Lolly would be there to fill the void, but with her 'issues' there might be a bit of a problem there.
SKY: (talking to Kerry) Ooh, great granddad's got another wayward teen on his hands!
HAROLD: No, no. She's Lou's daughter, he can keep her in line. If he ever decides to take off his rose-coloured glasses.
SKY: Daddy's little girl can do no wrong?
HAROLD: Well, he won't hear a word against her.
There's a knock on the door and Sky goes to open it only to find Stingray there. He asks her if she wants the good or bad news first, but when she can't pick then he just starts telling his news anyway. Janelle's application for a new bust(?) was rejected and the guy who she took with here, Jeremy Raft, was 'a total knob' who spoke in a fancy way and Stingray's annoyed at how his mother fell under the spell of that. Sky realises then that there was no good news to be delivered, but she appreciates being told in person. Stingray heads off since he's been ordered by his Mum to call Jeremy again to set up another meeting with him.
Harold remarks how he would have expected Sky to be more disappointed at these news, but Sky brings up the old saying of 'When one door closes, another one opens', just as her mobile goes off. Her second mobile phone, that is, a phone which she answers 'Jeremy Raft' on in a low, dark voice when she picks it up.
The General Store
Ned comes in talking to his Mum on his mobile, saying he's fine and has lots of clients. He's just got a bit of a cash flow problem at the moment and wants to know if he can borrow some money from his folks.
In another corner of the store, 'Jeremy Raft' is holding up a copy of the Erinsborough News to avoid his face being seen as Stingray comes in and sits down at that very table. 'Jeremy' says it's a pleasure to meet Stingray then drops the newspaper and it's Sky sitting there with a dark brown wig on, a fake moustache and a male suit. Stingray says Janelle will never fall for that disguise, but Sky says it'll be fine. In the application she clearly stated that she only works from photos anyway, so Janelle won't ever know it's her. Stingray calls Ned over to see 'Jeremy', but he's not too excited so just makes a quick comment then leaves. Stingray reckons it's got to do with Katya's hearing that's coming up today and Sky comments on how all that angst is a great inspiration for an artiste like her.
No. 28
Karl and Susan arrive home with Toadie who in Karl's opinion shouldn't have been allowed to go home. Susan suggests one of them stays home with Toadie and the other goes to Katya's hearing, but Toadie says he's fine, they can both go. Karl reminds Toadie of how lucky he is he can walk at all now, but Toadie says it's okay, he just fell due to the exertion, that's all, and now he and Steph both know what the score is.
SUSAN: And what's the score?
TOADIE: That I love her, I always have. And Steph loves me.
KARL: Did she say that?
TOADIE: Well, she couldn't in front of Max.
SUSAN: Yeah, what about Max?
TOADIE: He knows he was his wife's consolation prize and I feel sorry for him actually, but 'all's fair', ay?
Susan and Karl exchange looks that say differently.
The Scarlet Bar
Max is wiping off some tables when Steph comes in from the outside dining area, making her way over to the bar. She comments on how they're running low on the pre-mixed drinks and the dishwasher needs fixing and...
MAX: Just stop it, Steph! Now I want to know what Toadie meant.
STEPH: Can we just wait until the lunch rush is over?
MAX: No! No, Steph, I need to know now! Is it true? Was I your second choice?
STEPH: ...
The Scarlet Bar Office
Max says it doesn't exactly fill him with joy to know he was the runner-up, but Steph protests, saying he's got it wrong.
STEPH: Let's just say I was confused about who I want to be with.
MAX: Was?
STEPH: I love you, Max. I love what we had, I don't want to throw it away.
MAX: So why are we sleeping in separate beds?
STEPH: You're the one that walked out! How dare you expect me to just fall back into line?
MAX: But it's more than that, isn't it, Steph? You can barely be in the same room with me.
STEPH: It's been very hard.
MAX: Why did you take me back, Steph? Was it out of pity?
STEPH: No! No, Max, we made a commitment.
MAX: That's not enough! You don't stay with someone because you feel obliged!
STEPH: I love you! I want our marriage to work! I want us to be a family again.
MAX: So do I, but if you're in love with someone else...?
STEPH: (looks away from him) ...
MAX: You can't even deny it.
STEPH: No, no, I love Toad for many reasons. But maybe they're not the right ones, maybe they never were.
MAX: Maybe? 'Maybe' is not really good enough, is it, Steph? I love you and I want to be with you more than ever, but if your heart's not in it then what's the point? I'm releasing you from your vows, Steph. You don't have to feel obliged.
As he walks off, Steph has a pensive look on her face.
The Garden of No. 28
Springsteen's strutting around as Toadie's out in the sunshine reading a book. Steph comes over and tells him he gave her quite a scare that morning, and Toadie says that's the kind of comment a girlfriend would make and at least everything is out in the open now. The two of them are free to be together.
STEPH: Toad, I'm with Max now.
TOADIE: ...That's only because I pushed you away.
STEPH: No, no, no... It's not that simple, I... This morning made me remember why I loved him.
TOADIE: He deserted your family, Steph. He doesn't deserve you!
STEPH: He deserves another chance though. Toad, there's been too much history for me to just turn my back!
TOADIE: What about me?
STEPH: What you and I had will always be very special to me. And if Max hadn't have come back...
TOADIE: ...
STEPH: I still want us to be friends, OK?
TOADIE: We were never friends. I was just someone who gave you free legal advice, a shoulder for you to cry on when you had nobody else, someone to look after your kid...
STEPH: (in disbelief) Is this really the way you want to leave this?
TOADIE: Just go. You made your choice.
Steph leaves without another word.
No. 24
Sky (still dressed as Jeremy) and Stingray are commenting on the latest artwork they've made in the living room. It looks like bits of mannequins (mainly heads and arms) and some boxes.
SKY: Note the contrast in textures, the bold use of materials... The audience will be very impressed.
STINGRAY: And it's as ugly as sin!
SKY: It's what your Mum ordered!
STINGRAY: Yeah, I think she was looking for 'get up Paul's nose' ugly, not 'train wreck' ugly.
SKY: Well, it's going to look so wrong in that foyer he's going to go nuts!
Harold comes in and wants to know what's going on. Sky tells him they're just making the bust Janelle ordered and Harold thinks they've completely lost all of their common sense.
HAROLD: (upset) To turn this [living room] into a workshop that's one thing, but to put this infant (points to Kerry in her cot) through all this dust and fumes...
Sky tells him that Kerry's been quite happy in her cot and that they've been protecting her from the dust and fumes, but Harold still takes the cot and pulls Kerry to 'safety' in the next room. Stingray comments on how over-protective Harold is of Kerry and how he's even looked at what school to send Kerry to later, some 'snotty-nosed girls' school where they make you wear hats'. Dylan's not very impressed with that and now that she knows about it, neither is Sky.
The Scarlet Bar
Ned's following the races through his portable radio in the background as Karl, Katya and Susan come in, ordering champagne to celebrate Katya getting a suspended sentence at her hearing. The evidence she provided against Guy and his companions ensured that they'll be off the streets for a very long time to come. Max tells Katya he's happy for her and she returns the sentiment saying how it's as if they've both got another chance to get their lives back on track. Max isn't overjoyed though and Susan picks up on it, so checks with him that things are really okay. She suggests that he goes home to his family instead of hanging around the bar and he takes her advice.
Ned is far from happy with the way the races turned out as Katya comes over to talk to him. He's pleasantly surprised to see she got off at the hearing, convinced that it was his positive thinking that did the trick. Katya tells him it was hard for her to remain positive though when her boyfriend didn't show up at the hearing and Ned tells her he got held up. She asks if he's ready to pick up where they left off before and he says he's up for it. He'll start by taking her out to the best restaurant in town tonight! Katya wonders if he can really afford it and Ned says that for her, it's not a problem at all for him to afford it.
No. 24
Harold is cooing over Kerry who's lying on the kitchen table in time for a diaper change. Sky notices how he's about to use a cloth one, so reminds her granddad that she's using disposable diapers these days. Harold says the cloth ones are much better though. Sky then reminds him that she, not he, is Kerry's Mum and primary caregiver and it's up to her to decide what diapers to use, what Kerry's routine is and together with Dylan, what school she will go to when the time comes. Harold concludes that Sky must have talked to Dylan about the issue, but she corrects him saying how it was Stingray that informed her. Sky tells her granddad that he can't go and call schools to make inquiries without her consent.
HAROLD: No, but I did! Remember last week, we discussed all the schools in the local area.
SKY: Granddad, that was a two-minute chat before I was getting ready for work!
HAROLD: Oh yes, but you see, you're always so busy. I've got time to do the research and do the enrolments.
SKY: You've enrolled her?
HAROLD: Well, we don't want her to miss out, do we? These schools have got waiting lists for years...
SKY: (in disbelief) How many schools?
HAROLD: Oh, not that m... Well, no more than four.
SKY: Granddad, you have no right to do that!
HAROLD: I beg your pardon? When you're out working or on one of your jaunts, I'm the primary carer. Still, I suppose you can just come home and take advantage when you feel like it.
SKY: You could have shown me the pamphlets at least.
HAROLD: I did, they're here by the phone. I left them there in the hopes that you might take some time out to look at them. I just thought you'd be happy that one of us was looking ahead.
SKY: I am, I appreciate everything you do for us.
HAROLD: Well then, what's all this fuss about, ay?
The Garden Outside No. 32
Steph is pumping up a plastic swimming pool for Charlie who's on her arm. Max comes home and Steph says she's been waiting for him. Max apologises and Steph tells him that he can't get rid of his family all that easy. They kiss and make up.
No. 24
Sky is out of ideas for what to do with the artwork they're making and asks Stingray for help. He shows up in the doorway that leads to the bedrooms in a red dress with a floral pattern and is wearing a blond wig. He walks over to Sky in the living room putting on an act to be her, talking about her hardship with a non-understanding grandfather. Sky says she doesn't sound like the way he portrays her, but Stingray says that she does.
SKY: I can't believe you fit into my pre-pregnancy dress. You look better in it than I do.
STINGRAY: Oh, Mr. Raft, you're such a flatterer and a sweet talker too!
SKY: Oh, you sexy nymphet!
STINGRAY: Mr. Raft, please, I'm a lady!
SKY: Oh, but I'm irresistibly drawn to you and I think you're so ironic and hot!
STINGRAY: Oh please, get over yourself!
SKY: I must have you now!
They lay down on the sofa.
STINGRAY: Mr. Raft, wait! I've never kissed a man with a moustache before!
Sky then proceeds to kiss Stingray's neck causing him to laugh since he's so ticklish just there.
No. 28
Toadie's at the kitchen table doing some work when Susan, Karl and Katya arrive back from the bar. He congratulates Katya on her win and Katya tells him that she thinks Rosie deserves a medal for her work. Katya says all she needs now is just a long shower and Karl remarks that the shower had better not be too long since there are water restrictions in place.
SUSAN: The girl's been in jail. Let her have the luxury of a long, hot shower.
KARL: Oh, I don't know, it's the Hoylands filling up their pool too. Max and Steph would know a bit...
Toadie looks a bit uncomfortable and Karl realises he's probably better off dropping the topic completely so goes out to check on the chooks. As Susan sits down next to him at the table, Toadie tells her that he was deluded because Steph was always going to be with Max. Susan tells him that Steph did love him and Toadie says he'll get over it. Work's the only thing that's keeping him sane at the moment and it's all that he's got left in his life now too.
SUSAN: Come on, you know that's not true.
TOADIE: No, you're right, 'cause technically speaking I don't have a life!
Toadie says he' does have a career though and that's something. Susan reminds him that he's got friends who care about him too and Toadie says he appreciates the concern, but right now what he really wants to do is to get stuck into the piece of work he's got in front of him.
No. 24
Still in their cross dressing outfits, Sky and Stingray are rating each other's kissing abilities. Stingray reckons Sky's an eight and she rates him a ten. They kiss again just as Harold comes in and he's not very pleased so suggests Stingray leaves so that he can have a talk to his granddaughter in private.
HAROLD: I don't think that was very appropriate behaviour.
SKY: What?
HAROLD: Well, one minute you're reminding me that you're Kerry's Mum the next minute you're carrying on like a child. Now, you can't have it both ways, Sky.
SKY: Granddad, that was just a bit of fun.
HAROLD: Oh, is that what it's called, is it?
Harold points out that it looked like way more than that and what if Dylan or Rachel had been the ones to come in instead of him. Sky wants to know why Harold's making such a big deal out of her kissing Stingray and he says it's about time she started growing up.
HAROLD: Sky, the way you act impacts on others. You've got to start setting a better example for Kerry!
SKY: So I'm not just immature, I'm a bad mother too?
Harold says that's not what he meant, but Sky doesn't listen. She decides to take Kerry out for a walk just as Susan pops over to borrow the Bishops' Whipper Snipper. Susan asks Harold if things are OK and he tells her about his inability to get through to Sky with his advice.
No. 26
Sky tells Stingray about what Harold just told her and can't believe how uptight her Granddad is about this issue. Stingray says it's just that some people don't get them, that's all. They're both whacked in the head and that's why they're such good friends too. Sky points out that maybe they are a bit OTT though and that it's perhaps not surprising if some people get the wrong idea about them such as Rachel.
STINGRAY: No more mucking around! From now on we are no longer good friends, [we're] serious mates.
SKY: Right, says you wearing a dress and a wig!
STINGRAY: (pretending to be hurt) Jeremy, are you breaking up with me?
SKY: (putting on her deep voice) Yes.
STINGRAY: (whilst faking crying) I feel so used.
No. 28
Katya exists the bedroom all dressed up and Susan comments on how she looks a bit too dressed up for Spag Bol. Katya then explains how she's got a date with Ned tonight which makes Toadie, who's still at the kitchen table working, look far from amused. Karl comes in from the back carrying a big box from where crowing is heard. Susan tells him to take the box back out, but Karl pleads to let Springsteen (who's inside the box) stay inside just for one night, just while he's in training.
SUSAN: You can't teach a bird not to crow! Especially not that bird!
KARL: Well, I taught Darl to poo in the poop tray, didn't I?
They bicker for a bit and Karl then says he'd prefer to but the bird in their bedroom.
KARL: Susan, it has to be somewhere completely dark.
SUSAN: Oh, I can think of somewhere extremely dark that you're more than welcome to keep it.
KARL: Oh, that's just not nice.
SUSAN: Just chuck a blanket over his dome!
KARL: No, no, he can smell the morning air!
SUSAN: This is beyond ludicrous!
KARL: Susan, the sparrow starts chirping at four o'clock in the morning! Then he thinks to himself 'Hey, why do I have to stay quiet?'. He feels discriminated! He's got a point, you know!
Despite Susan's best efforts to stop it, Karl takes the box into the bedroom and she follows him.
Toadie makes a comment to Katya that at least one of them gets to escape 'the asylum' and Katya offers him to tag along. He declines the offer though since he's not really in the mood to celebrate, but she should really be happy about her new chance at a life thanks to 'Rosie the Super Clerk'. In fact she's doing quite well with a lot of his cases.
Susan follows Karl out from the bedroom and they're still bickering.
SUSAN: Why don't you bring Chop inside and teach him to answer the phone?
KARL: I'm not listening!
SUSAN: And what about the chooks? The girls get bunged in the dome and the boy gets the ensuite! Now that's discrimination!
KARL: The hens have got each other.
They walk out to the back of the house.
Toadie tells Katya it's nice to see her and Ned back together again and Katya says she's really lucky to have him considering everything she's put him through.
TOADIE: Well, that's Ned. He's a top bloke.
The Scarlet Bar
Ned's at a table checking his wallet and he's got no money in there.
Behind the bar, Max asks Steph is she's got any regrets. She says she wishes no one had to get hurt by all of it. Steph says she reckons Toadie hates her now, but Max says he doesn't think that's the case. Charlie starts crying in the back office and Max goes to feed him as Steph stays to look after the bar. Steph spots Ned so walks over to have a chat with him and learns that he's waiting for Katya. She reckons that Katya's very lucky to have that many people trusting her. Steph gets the bill back from a customer and goes to put the money in the till while Ned is watching her from afar. When Steph has to step out for a minute she asks Ned to look after the bar for her and he agrees. Behind the bar he sees the $100 bills sticking out of the till and can't resist taking them and put them in his shirt pocket.
