Recap
Karl and Jenny kiss
Steph will face an operation if she delays treatment much longer
Angie KOs Janelle
Number 26
Janelle places all the blame for her bruised face on Janae, as she's the one who guilt-tripped her into fighting Angie. Janae says Janelle's wanted to fight Angie for years and suggests she get over it. But Janelle can't even leave the house because of the shame!
Boyd appears and brings up the fight. Janelle asks Boyd's advice vis-à-vis the hypothetical Kim-hitting-on-Angie situation but Janae asks for some privacy so Janelle makes herself scarce.
Boyd has his first class of Gross Anatomy this arvo (or 'cutting up a dead human body' in BoydSpeak).
JANAE: Gross...
BOYD: It's not gross - just kinda intimidating.
JANAE: Um, no, but you just called it gross just then.
BOYD: Yeah, that's the name of the class: Gross Anatomy.
(So confusing). He knows that he has to do it, if he's going be a doc. Janae thinks it's disgusting - what if the body is all horrible and stinking? Actually, she thinks she's going to be sick -
Steph's Hospital Room
Susan is remarking to Lyn that Steph looks better when the lady herself wakes up. Karl comes in with his Serious Doctor Face on, which doesn't mean good things. His advice is to deliver the baby now by C-section. Steph points out that Max isn't back but he'll be back tomorrow. Karl believes Max would want her to do it without him but Steph won't have the op - it's got to be tomorrow. Karl tells her she might become too weak to be operated on at all if she waits but this won't change her mind. Defeated, Karl tells her he'll pop back before six.
Lyn follows Karl outside.
LYN: She's worse, isn't she?
KARL: Time's running out, Lyn.
They both look worriedly at Steph as she rests.
The General Store
Janelle has the door ajar and is spying on what's going on inside. Paul needs to go in to chat with Harold and Lou but she tells him to keep his voice down and clear off. There's a very delicate procedure going on in there - namely her marriage -
JANELLE: So rack off!
Inside Janae is trying to get Angie to admit that the Kim-Cracking-Onto-Her stuff was a big lie by turning on the waterworks. Angie sees right through it and Janelle bursts in, demanding she admit it was a lie. But Angie maintains it's the truth. Janelle wants to know who the witness to the incident was - then she'll shut her trap. At first Angie won't talk then Janelle threatens to get her run out of town so, naturally, Angie complies:
ANGIE: It was Jarrod.
Janelle and Janae rush out to see about it. Angie grabs the phone and leaves a message for Toadie, telling him not to say a word to Janelle.
Gross Anatomy 1A
Boyd and his fellow students stand before a corpse covered in a sheet. Boyd remarks to Sasha, the girl beside him, that he's going to leave his body to science fiction when he dies. Ha ha. The girl mentions Boyd's jealous girlfriend and he realises he's never going to live it down.
Dr Marley, their lecturer, pulls back the sheet and Boyd looks at the body as she tells them this will be the first time many of them have seen a dead body and it's okay for them to express any emotions. Boyd gags and rushes out the room.
Uni
Sasha reassures Boyd - Dr Marley said they'd experience full-on emotions. He wonders how he can cut open a body when he reacts like that and tells her his mum died when he was 12. Death is a part of life - or a least his. First his mum, now Steph. That body in there - that person - had a life, just like Steph does. He doesn't know what he'll do if he loses her.
Sasha thinks Boyd is amazing - she couldn't have coped. The fact he's even coming to class... he starts to put himself down again but she tells him to give himself a break. He isn't sure if he wants to go back in and face it all. She says him running out was the only thing that stopped her fainting - what will she do without him? He thinks, in that case, he'd better play the man. He puts a hand on her arm and thanks her for her support: Janae appears and spots this.
Steph's Hospital Room
Lyn says Hail Marys by Steph's bedside, breaking into tears, but continuing on. As she does this Steph begins to dream..
We see a picture of Ozzy, then two boys in their mid to late teens, coming through the door of number 32. The older boy tells the younger one that he has talent - he's as good as Jack was at that age, according to his dad. Just has to keep some self-control. The younger boy asks if he ever saw Jack play but it was before his time.
Steph comes in and says "Charlie" with obvious delight - he's all grown up. She sits next to the younger boy, who continues to ignore her. She thinks he's seen her but he's actually looking to a framed photo on the fireplace. He asks the older boy (Oscar) whether his mum would have liked him playing footy. Ozzy says that she was priming him for footy - she would listen to games on the radio and hold it against her stomach for him to hear! The use of the past tense and its meaning dawns on Steph and she looks shocked.
CHARLIE: What team did she barrack for?
OZZY: Can't remember - I'd only just turned three when she died.
Steph puts a hand to her mouth, stunned.
Uni
Boyd and Sasha rejoin the class.
A while later Dr Marley instructs Boyd to make an incision using incomprehensible ER speak (Gosh, Boyd has learned a lot during that month or so he's had of his course). Boyd does it. Now it's Sasha's turn to have an emotional reaction (namely, fainting).
The General Store
Harold (wearing a green sparkly hat) presents Karl and Susan with two cups of green coffee to celebrate St Patrick's Day - he doesn't seem very sure of what he put in it to make it green but assures them that it isn't toxic. Susan orders some food for Lyn for her to take away with her to the hospital.
Karl's cutting down on sugar so Susan takes this as a signal that the date with Jenny went well. She wants to know - seriously - how it went and, after a few adjectives that Susan thinks could just as well be attributed to sponsoring dolphins, Karl tells her they went and saw a French film - he had a good time. So she can tell Katya he's well and truly moved on...
Susan thinks Katya has other worries: Toadie's background check for one. She isn't sure if she's going to use it as evidence in court and hopes she won't have to.
Janelle comes in to ask if Janae's found Toadie yet (she hasn't). Besides, she's too depressed after seeing Boyd and his new best chick buddy, Sasha. Janelle thinks it's typical (as all men are two timing rats) and boys and girls can never be 'just mates'. Janelle goes off to teach Boydy a lesson in fidelity.
Steph's Hospital Room
Lyn sits by Steph's beside as her daughter sleeps. Susan comes in with the GS food. It's that music again - cue dream...
Steph's video to Charlie is playing and the teenage Ozzy and Charlie are watching (as Steph stands behind them, unseen). (And the Hoylands still have their Ikea rug after all this time - random fact)
STEPH: Every sports day and swimming carnival - I'll be there cheering you on. I'll be your guardian angel.
Charlie remarks about how weird it is to love someone so much that you never actually knew. He's watched this tape on every birthday since he was six. That was except when his dad was around. Ozzy thinks he didn't want to be reminded of what happened. Charlie says that everyone says she was this tomboy - a tough chick.
OZZY: She was.
CHARLIE: Yeah, then why didn't she fight harder?
STEPH: I tried, Charlie. I really, really tried.
Charlie thinks it would be easier if she was around. It would've been nice to know her. DreamSteph tries to tell him that she's with him - that she'll always be with him - but, of course, he doesn't see her. Charlie wants to have a kick about and the boys start to leave. Steph calls after them but they don't hear her.
VIDEO-TAPE STEPH: I just want you to have a really wonderful life. I love you.
DreamSteph looks very worried.

Sasha is talking about her fainting spell with Boyd when Janelle spots them. She comes in, saying she thought brainiacs had no time for sitting around. Boyd is surprised to see her and tells her he hasn't seen Janae. She says she's probably sitting at home and hitting the books. She'll have to work hard - no silver spoons for her. Boyd tells her to tell Janae he'll call her, to which Janelle suggests he calls her himself. Sasha sees where Janae gets her attitude from - will Janelle be like this with every girl Boyd's friends with? Janelle says she was just simply looking for Janae. Sasha guesses Janae's at home - or threatening other female students. Janelle leaves. Boyd is amazed that Sasha could stand up to her. Sasha says she won't put up with this for the next six years.
The General Store
Janelle reports to her daughter that Dr Feelgood is lounging about with adoring female brainiacs. She suggests Janae goes down there and sorts her out. Janae thinks maybe Boyd's more suited to someone like Sasha. Janelle says he needs reminded what side his bread is buttered on and sends Janae on her way.
Janelle tells Angie that she can't keep Toadie away forever (he's in Sydney, as it happens, but not forever) - when she gets her hands on him Angie will be so sorry.
ANGIE: Oh, I'm terrified.
Uni
Janae appears and drapes herself possessively over Boyd. She and Boydy are going on a double date with Sasha and her man. Janae asks how the class went - were people spewin' and faintin' and stuff? Boyd and Sasha laugh that laugh that makes you feel really left out and stupid because you're not in on the joke. Janae tries to laugh too but you can tell she really doesn't get it.
Steph's Hospital Room
Lynnie draws the curtains. She returns to sit beside Steph's bed, alongside Susan, who squeezes her hand supportively. Time for some dream music...
Charlie used to be mad at his mum for what she did to his family but now he feels sorry for her - for what she missed out on. DreamSteph tells him she's sorry as Ozzy says they all miss her big time. Steph tells Charlie that she'll always be here for him as Ozzy leaves with Charlie showing him out. Steph grabs onto Charlie and sobs into his back. She loses grip and he walks away, leaving Steph staring on after him.
Uni
Janae is trying to get to know Sasha - she tells her how Boyd is teaching her to skate (she's a risk taker). Besides, Boyd thinks grazed knees look hot. Boyd quickly says she's getting better at it. Sasha totally boasts about when she was in San Diego last year, backpacking, and nearly got run over by a seven-times world champion skater bloke. Boyd is mega impressed but Sasha had no idea who he was. He's also impressed that she travelled the world last year - she says she just didn't have enough time in all the places she went to. Janae can sympathise - two Chrisses ago she went somewhere and didn't want to leave. Sasha's parents had a dairy farm there but had to give it up as they couldn't juggle it with work and so on (Sasha's parents are tragic socialites - so embarrassing). Janae can totally understand and mentions her mother boring everyone to death with her book.
Boyd dashes off to see Steph. Janae looks back to Sasha, telling her she's on to her and it won't work. Sasha doesn't like Boyd in that way. Janae knows she's in denial and she won't give him up without a fight. Sasha tells her that, when she gets older, she might realise that being with someone doesn't mean owning them.
Steph's Hospital Room
Karl checks on a sleeping Steph's vitals and Lyn asks how she is. Karl heaves a massive sigh as Lyn starts to cry.
LYN: The baby?
KARL: The baby is in better shape than the mother is, I'm afraid.
Steph murmurs about Charlie and Lyn tells her to be quiet - save her strength. But Steph wakes up:
STEPH: Let's do it. I want to have my baby now.
Karl will get her into theatre ASAP and rushes out to organise it. Lyn is crying and smiling at the same time.
LYN: Stephie, Stephie - you do know Max isn't here, right?
STEPH: I don't care, Mum. I want to live.
LYN: You will, Stephie.
SUSAN: 'Course you will.
Even Susan is crying a bit. Lyn cries and kisses her daughter.
LYN: You will, my baby. I promise.
