No. 26
Stingray tries and fails to win a client on the phone for their delivery service, whist Janae and Janelle talk sadly about how Janelle managed to get the last client by showing a bit of cleavage. Janelle sees the good in it though - it makes her a better writer and so she summons Bree to the kitchen as she has been reading the latest instalment of the book. Bree gives her opinion of it - it's good but the characters are two-dimensional either all good or all bad. Janelle says that readers want to know from the start who's good and who is bad to prevent the readers being confused. Bree suggests that she knows better since she has read more books, but Janelle questions the type of books she reads (classics) and suggests she's never read one like this before!
Boyd barges into the house looking for Lyn, but she is busy with Joe according to Janelle. Stinger asks him to spill and he tells them that Steph is pregnant! He then becomes worried as to whether he was supposed to say anything or not, so Janelle tells her brood to keep it quiet until they've heard it from Lyn. Janae offers Boyd her congratulations, which he accepts, and Stinger drags him away to help with the deliveries.
The General Store
Lou complete with fishing rod has returned to Erinsborough with a plan to increase their profits by 25% courtesy of Mr Phil Martin. Harold is very sceptical but Lou wants to tell more and have an immediate meeting until Harold points out he is busy working and asks Lou if he'd like to come back to work. Lou rejects his kind offer as he is still on holiday!
Bree rushes into The General Store seeking Susan's help over Janelle's book. Susan is a bit reluctant given it is Janelle but Bree persuades her to come round and explain how to develop characters. It's all go in TGS today as Boyd and Stinger arrive pushing Karl out the road in their haste to enter with Stinger trying to persuade Boyd to join Speed Freaks as he is fast and Boyd agrees to think about it. Not wanting to be left out, Janae and Janelle arrive too! With Karl listening in at the fridges, Janelle asks Susan if she is ready for her date with Alex. Susan is a bit reluctant to answer given Karl's close proximity, so Janelle being blunt as ever, tells her that Karl has "had his chance" before telling her the news about Steph being pregnant. She asks Karl how Steph is, and without breeching patient confidentiality, replies that everything is fine.
Bree drags Janelle to the counter so they can order and Karl asks Susan about her date, saying he hopes it works out fine for her and to aid things along, gives her the two tickets for the Glass Menagerie (the ones intended for Izzy and him). Susan thanks him but turns them down as they have already made other plans.
Sindi's room at the Psychiatric hospital which looks rather like Erinsborough hospital room
Sindi and Stu look through their wedding photo's wondering if they were happy. Stu says they will be again and Sindi adds once they find out what is wrong with her and why she likes pushing people down the stairs. She tells him that she has a confession to make - she was happiest when he was blind because he was completely dependent on her, which was all she ever wanted. Stu tells her that he needs her now and they are going to get through this. Two members of staff come in to signify time is up and Stu says he'll be back tomorrow because she is his wife and he loves he but when he goes to kiss her goodbye, she pulls away from him. Once Stu leaves, Sindi begins to cry.
The General Store
Lou has told Harold that the plan involves a time and motion study, which Harold instantly dismisses because they went out with the ark despite what Lou thinks. Karl interrupts to offer them the tickets for the Glass Menagerie and Harold goes to take the tickets but quickly changes his mind when Lou suggests he implements the plan by himself. Karl leaves them to "discuss" things as Boyd comes by with a delivery that should have been there 30 minutes ago and tells Lou to complain to Janelle. Moving from her seat to the counter, Janae tells Karl she too is going to see the Glass Menagerie but has been stood up. Karl offers her a lift, which she accepts and asks if she has her ticket. Janae says her friend has it, so Karl gives her his spare one.
No. 26
Susan asks Janelle if her book is in the first person but Janelle doesn't really understand the question, so replies that she knows what makes people tick. Bree adds that Susan reads loads of books and so knows about fictional characters. Susan tries another tact - what is her favourite fiction character. Janelle replies that it is the villain character from her book because she is a nutter! Tactfully, Susan mentioning her chat with Bree earlier suggests that the character is based upon some in Ramsay Street. Janelle replies that it is all lies, so Susan adds that if it is based on Sindi then she hopes there is room for sympathy given that Sindi is getting psychiatric treatment. Janelle is now insulted by this insinuation saying, "she'd never take advantage of poor little Wendy!" Feeling slightly embarrassed, Susan assumed that she was meaning Sindi and Janelle looks like she is going to start one, so Bree drags Janelle away to make some tea. With them in the kitchen, Susan picks up the manuscript and starts to read through it and finds a bit referring to herself just as Janelle comes back into the living room wanting to know why she is reading the manuscript.
SUSAN: Oh I'm sure you wouldn't begrudge me a nice long read.
JANELLE: You know there are millions of people in the world called Susan.
SUSAN: Yes, and they're all schoolteachers who used to be married to a doctor called Karl!
Susan now leaves taking the manuscript with her leaving Janelle looking pretty annoyed.
The General Store
Harold decides to time how long Lou takes to serve a customer and isn't exactly pleased. He also tells Lou that he knows that he slept in the kitchen last night because he left his pillow lying. Lou tries to suggest he needed some comfort whilst working late but Harold didn't come down in the last shower and tells him that he knows Paul kicked him out of No. 22. Toadie just so happens to come in and Lou asks him to confirm that he is spending a few nights at No. 30. After a subtle wink of the eye, Toadie confirms this and Harold says a satisfied "ah" before moving away. Toadie now wants payment for his lie - some free food.
Erinsborough Consulting & Specialist Rooms corridor
Boyd seeks Karl out to talk about what it was like for him being at medical school and he replies that despite the hard work it was the best time of his life and tells Boyd he'll enjoy it. He also adds that Boyd can talk to him at anytime about this as it is nice to see someone as focused as Boyd. Boyd asks if he is speaking about Janae, he wasn't specifically, so Boyd mentions he saw them leave for the theatre the previous night. Karl says it was all innocent because Janae is studying the Glass Menagerie at school. Oh no she isn't cries Boyd, the Year 12's study that!
Susan, Toadie and Stinger arrive to see Sindi and Karl tells them to go ahead but Stinger wants to know why Boyd is there, so he explains that he wanted some advice from Karl. Stinger accepts this and heads towards Sindi's room, so Karl now asks Boyd why Janae lied about why she was going to the play. Boyd replies that he doesn't know and wants to know what Karl thinks.
Sindi's room
Susan tells Sindi about Steph being pregnant and tells her that the street isn't the same without her. Stingray tells her to get home real quick because she is missed but Sindi tells them to face facts - she isn't all that well and asks Toadie to confirm this. He does but adds that she will be and Stingray joins in and tells her it isn't bad, comparing it to how he "got better". Toadie passes on Stu's apologies for his lateness because he had to go into work for something. Sindi wants to know what it was and eventually Toadie tells her that Stu decided not to go into the undercover programme and she thinks it is because of her. Sindi asks her visitors to leave because she wants to lie down and they do so after hugging her farewell, and once they leave she starts to cry.
No. 30
Lou brings round a 6-pack as a thank you for covering him with Harold earlier and he reminds Lou that it was just a cover story and that he isn't moving in, which Lou confirms.
Erinsborough Consulting & Specialist Rooms
Karl gives Janae her referral for the plastic surgery. She thanks him for that and last night, so Karl reminds her that their relationship is purely professional and hopes there are no misconceptions. A puzzle Janae asks "like what" and Karl replies "well", so she quickly tells him that he is old enough to be her dad and wants to know why he'd even think that. Karl explains that she isn't studying the Glass Menagerie at school and so she lied to him. Janae apologises for this and explains that she wanted to see the play and someone to talk to because she can't talk to anyone about how she really feels, so Karl reminds her that is why they have counselling sessions at school.
JANAE: So why does everyone think I'm just a dumb tart? That is why I want this (holds up the referral). I'm going to show them that I'm better than all of them.
KARL: Oh come on Janae.
JANAE: And you're just like the rest.
No. 26
Susan calls round to have a word with Janelle about the book. She tells her that she's read it all including the WIP ending and Janelle quickly says, "it isn't real, it's just a story".
SUSAN: Oh it's very real to me Janelle. I've seen myself in a whole new light and it's all thanks to you.
JANELLE: Oh, no need for thanks.
SUSAN: This is the Susan that other people see - cold and ruthless and a terrible snob. I have so much to learn from you Janelle we have to spend much more time together.
Janelle tries to say that isn't necessary but Susan says it is so she can change into a better person for which Janelle will be responsible for. Janelle decides that she doesn't want to be responsible and offers to rip the manuscript up and start again! Susan tells her that it is too important to destroy but asks her one thing - not to use her real name! After turning on the waterworks, Janelle quickly agrees to her request and Susan hugs her before leaving. Once she leaves, Janelle announces that writing is the pits and she'd react the same way too. Bree manages to hide her laugh when Janelle tells her that from now on she's going to invent the characters and not base them on RS residents.
No. 30
Lou begs Toadie for a room at No. 30 but Toadie says no because it is a hot water cupboard, but Lou replies "luxury!" Toadie also tells him Stu is too stressed out with Sindi to allow it either, so Lou tries the "we've had some great times over the years".
TOADIE: Great times? Mate when you owned the pub you were the boss from hell and when you owned this place you were the landlord from hell - surprise inspections, blackmail, threats.
Lou pleads that it will only be for a few nights since there is no room at Harold's place because of his relatives being there and he has no family here. Toadie tells him it isn't his decision, so Lou asks to put a good word in with Connor and Stu for him, which he agrees to think about doing so Lou leaves... to bring his bags in!
The General Store
Boyd spots Janae sitting staring into space and goes over to see how she is. She's fed up of people judging her, so after telling her he doesn't, he tells her that she just needs to think before speak. Janae wants to know what he is going on about, so Boyd mentions the play. Ah the penny drops and she now knows why Karl reacted like he did and that he thinks she has a crush on him when all she wanted was someone to talk to. She then tells him that he stuffed things up for Kayla and now he's doing it for her. Boyd says sorry.
JANAE: You know one day soon you're going to have a whole new respect for me and when that day comes I'm not going to give a stuff about you.
Sindi's room at the psychiatric hospital
Stu spots the things Susan dropped off and notices that she is quiet. She asks him why he comes every day and he replies that she is his wife and he loves her. Sindi starts going off on one and Stu wants to know what is going on, so she tells him that he doesn't listen.
SINDI: I thought long and hard about this and I want an annulment.
She gets up off her bed and goes into a drawer and pulls out a legal document for him to sign. Stu refuses to sign it, so Sindi tells him that she'll refuse to see him and he wants to know what has happened. Sindi tells him that the psychiatrist thinks it is best if she doesn't see Stu any more, so he wants the name so he can speak to him. Sindi refuses to give it and he wants to know why.
SINDI: Because it is pointless Stuart. I'm not going to get better while you are hanging around her so don't hang around here anymore. (Pause) Is that clear enough for you? Just don't come back. Goodbye.
Reluctantly Stu walks out of the room.
