Recap
- Gus telling Izzy only he understands her- Susan telling Izzy to just keep driving and "don't ever, ever come back".
Lassiters
Boyd tells Karl that his car has gone. They wonder if Gus has anything to do with Izzy's disappearing act.
Steph's had a phonecall - Charlie's taken a turn for the worse so she's going to go.
As Max calls for news on Gus, Susan comes in. She tells Karl about the near miss car accident - Karl asks what Izzy was doing.
SUSAN: She's driving. I don't know where she's going, bu she's just driving away from here.
Scully/Hoylands
Doreen's trying to get in touch with Michael through the Australian embassy in Beijing. He should be on his way. Steph offers Charlie a beer - Lyn tells her he shouldn't be drinking on painkillers. But it's too late to worry about side effects so Charlie wants the beer. As he takes it, he has another coughing fit and ends up spilling half of it.
Lassiters
Karl wants to know what Susan said to Izzy. She says she didn't say anything - nothing that would have made a difference at any rate.
SUSAN: She wasn't going to be stopped. Not by me. Not by anyone. I'm sorry.
Toadie wants to call things quits, they should regroup at the pub. Karl eventually concedes and tells everyone to head over to the pub for a drink or two. Or three. Or four.
Toadie tells Susan he'll stay with Karl, but Karl wants to be on his own. So Toadie leaves along with the others.
Scully/Hoylands
Charlie asks if there's any luck on the "bun in the oven department". Steph tells him that it might just happen this month. He makes her promise that if it doesn't happen she shouldn't let it eat her up.
CHARLIE: The good thing about dying is that you can cut the bull.
He's got a gift for her after he goes, but she wants to change the subject.
Lassiters
Izzy turns up - she couldn't go through with it. The running away that is.
KARL: Did you wanna hurt me this much?
IZZY: I panicked. Gus coming back didn't help me either. He told me that I didn't deserve you. I came back. Don't you see? Even knowing how much you would hate me right now, I came back.
KARL: What for? Did you want my approval?
She asks if he loves her.
KARL: Izzy! Look at me! Would you look at this? How can you possibly ask me if I love you?
On her knees, she tells him she loves him too. That's why she came back.
Ramsay Street
Boyd sees Gus standing outside number 32 and runs up to him. He tells Gus to stay away from his family. Max arrives and acts like an old mate around Gus. Max tells Boyd to go, but Boyd isn't moving.
Gus says he just wanted to see what was going on - Boyd tells him that Izzy's terrified of him.
GUS: But I'm OK now. I've worked it out.
When Gus sees Stu and Sindi, he bolts. Stu tells Max to call the cops before giving chase.
Lassiters
IZZY: Dumping you at the altar was a pretty rotten thing to do.
Karl asks if Izzy wants his forgiveness. She doesn't. At first, maybe. But she came back because she would have missed him. She loves him and she doesn't want to let that go.
KARL: What do you want with me?
IZZY: I want you to give me a second chance.
The Pub
Sindi wonders if Izzy will turn up - Toadie doesn't think so. Not after jilting Karl.
Lil and Susan talk about it. Lil thinks that at least Karl now knows the truth, Susan doesn't want to talk about it.
Stu lost Gus, Boyd wants to see him locked up asap and can't believe that Max is still defending him.
Karl turns up... with Izzy. She apologises to Karl and everyone. Mistakes do happen - sometimes in spectacular fashion. They offer everyone drinks and cakes and hope that everyone can forgive them. Perhaps even wish them well.
IZZY: The wedding is off... but we are still on.
SUSAN: (to herself) I don't believe this.
Izzy stops Susan from leaving. She thanks her for making her see what was important. With a glare, Susan pushes past and leaves.
Max comes over, wanting to know what just happened.
IZZY: Your mad sister has been forgiven. By her mad boyfriend.
Scully/Hoylands
Charlie's dreaming about Valda over a soundtrack of her wedding vows and the old film we saw on Lyn's birthday.
He wakes up coughing. Steph and Doreen want to know what to do. Charlie asks Doreen to get something so he can write a letter to Valda. He tells Steph he's happy to be with his family, but sad to be leaving them. He's dying now, there's nothing that can be done anymore. Steph wants him to hang on for Valda but he can't. She breaks down.
CHARLIE: Don't cry, love, be happy for me.
Charlie's old now. He's not looking forward but back. He needs to move on to whatever comes next. Steph breaks down.
The Pub
Sindi offers her congratulations... she thinks. Toadie doesn't know if it's madness or love.
IZZY: Both.
KARL: I think if she's prepared to come back after dumping me at the altar...
IZZY: And he's insane enough to take me back...
KARL: Then it must be love.
Lil's phone rings - it's Anna, Luka's adoptive mother. He's gone missing. Has been for days. David says if he turned up that they'd be able to give him somewhere to stay.
Izzy is happy. With the wedding out of the way there's no pressure. And now she's just able to be in love. Boyd wants to get out there and find Gus, Izzy just wants him found. Full stop.
Corridor/Storeroom at the pub
Mystery Person™ sneaks into a storeroom. Taking a bottle of spirit off the shelf they pour it about the place. Striking two matches they set the room alight...
The Pub
Toadie can't believe that Kizzy™ are putting it behind them and moving on.
Max tells Izzy he doesn't know whether to admire Karl more or less for taking her back.
Karl gets off the phone - Darcy's coma has deepened. A small stroke has finished what little brain function he had left.
Just as Harold smells burning, the pub smoke alarm goes off. Lou evacuates the pub, Max directing them to the muster point. As everyone files out, Max heads into the storeroom to check it out... and the place is on fire. Stu tells Max that it's too far gone to fight, there's no point fighting it. Lou can't believe it and they have to drag him out.
Coffee Shop
Harold sees the Coffee Shop alight and rushes in, heading for the kitchen. He tries to fight the fire but Toadie tells him the whole place is going up. Harold dives behind the counter as the kitchen explodes. Toadie makes him leave after Harold grabs something.
Courtyard
Outside, everyone's gathering. Izzy's relieved when Max comes out safe. As Harold and Toadie come out of the Coffee Shop, Harold drops something.
Stu asks where Sindi is - Toadie last saw her in the pub.
The Pub
Stu races back in to find her, slipping as he goes.
The pub is filled with smoke so Stu covers a bar cloth with water to breathe through. He finds Sindi unconscious in the ladies. He slings her over his shoulder and heads out.
Scully/Hoylands
Steph cries as Charlie passes away.
STEPH: Bye, Granddad. Happy sailing.
She kisses him gently on the cheek before getting up. She moves the pillow behind him...
...just as Lyn and Michael come in. From their POV it looks very suss. Steph tearfully says Charlie's gone, Michael wants to know what Steph's done to his father.
Courtyard
Lassiters is burning.
Toadie wants to go in after Stu and Sindi...
The Pub
...who are still inside. Sindi comes to so Stu puts her down.
Courtyard
Harold discovers the book he picked up is missing. It's Madge's recipe book. Max heads over to get it, and finds it on the ground. The Coffee Shop explodes and Max literally goes flying.
Izzy's distraught, Karl wants an ambulance.
The Pub
Stu and Sindi are in the bar as the flames get worse. As the spirits explode, they're trapped in the office.
The Courtyard
The emergency services arrive. Lou directs the ambulance to Max. Karl wants Izzy out of danger but she doesn't want to leave Max.
The pub's one big flame ball by now.
Max is put in the ambulance.
Lou watches his livelihood go up in flames.
Izzy pushes over to the ambulance to see Max, and Karl tries to comfort her.
The pub roof caves in. Lou's distraught, Toadie's horrified.
As the place burns, Paul Robinson joins the crowd. With no emotion on his face he watches the whole place just burn.
