Sky is decorating the Christmas tree while Serena wraps a present. Serena asks Sky if she got Boyd a present. Sky tells her that every time she approaches him, he runs the other way.
"But did you get him a present?" Serena asks.
"What do you think?" Sky replies.
Suddenly Stingray comes in the front door, announcing he's back. He tells Serena he read her letter and has come back. He's left his job, his mum, and Colac, because there's too much good stuff keeping him there.
Summer picks up a present and shakes it. "Uh oh, I hope that's not the box with the cat in it," Boyd jokes. Summer says that nothing Boyd says can stop this being the best Christmas ever. Summer mentions spending Christmas at the Scully house. Max explains that they aren't just there while their house is being sprayed. The wasps are actually long gone, they're staying to help out Steph. Steph and Summer talk about Summer's formal, and Steph tells Oscar he'll be going to formals soon. "Don't listen to him, Oscar," Boyd says. "Formals suck." Max tells him that a few years from now he'll look back on it as one of the best years of his life, and tells him that at least he has uni to look forward to. Summer gives Max some mail from their letterbox. Max is surprised to find something from Rosie. "Merry Christmas to the whole family. I hope your year has been as prosperous as those shares I sent you. Weren't they a stroke of good luck."
Stingray is eager to start up his relationship with Serena again, but she doesn't think it could work. Stingray says that they're supposed to be together. Serena tells him he's read things in her letter that weren't there. Stingray mentions some of the letter. Serena says that the letter was just to make peace. She tells him she's really happy he's back, but nothing's changed for her. Stingray wants to know who the other person is, but Serena won't say. He storms out.
Connor is struggling to write his article. He asks Maddy to help: "You've got a way with words." Carmella drops in to find out how he's going. She comments on the Christmas decorations hanging up. "I'll have to get them down before Toadie the evil elf gets back," he says. Apparently Toadie doesn't like Christmas. Carmella offers to look after Maddy while Connor finishes the article. Suddenly Connor remembers he has to run to the pub for something, and leaves Carmella to babysit.
Max is regretting letting David give him tax advice, instead of going to an accountant. Steph tells him they'll get the money somehow. Max tells her that the best solution is going to be selling the house and moving to a smaller one. Steph suggests moving in with Lyn: they'll be saving on rent, and once Jack leaves it's only going to be Lyn and Oscar in the house. Max is against the idea. Steph leaves to go to her checkup and some last minute Christmas shopping.
Serena and Lana complain about the plans their parents have for them for Christmas Day. Boyd and Summer come in. Lana, still behind the counter with Serena and out of earshot from Boyd and Summer, asks Serena where she disappeared to at the formal. Serena says she went for some fresh air. Stingray comes in and surprises Boyd and Summer with his return. He tells Boyd about his failure with Serena. Boyd tells her that she'll come around. He tells Boyd about the other guy she's found, and how when he finds out who it is, they'll be sorry. Boyd tells him that he hasn't seen her with anyone else. Stingray says it was probably some year 12 meathead. He asks Boyd if he saw her with anyone at the formal - he went out the same time she did. Boyd says he didn't see anything. Suddenly he has an idea: he'll go back to the hall and search for clues (he got the idea from watching SVU). Boyd goes back to talk to Serena, asking her what she said to him, because Stingray's gone nuts.
"Stingray's always nuts," she tells him. She tells Boyd that she only told Stingray she wanted to be friends, she doesn't know how he interpreted that to mean there was someone else. Boyd tells her about Stingray's evidence search. Serena says he'll get distracted and forget all about it. Before they can say much more, Lana comes into the kitchen. Boyd goes back to his table. Picking up on something, Lana asks what's going on with her and Boyd, but Serena denies everything. When Sky comes into the Coffee Shop, Boyd tells Summer they're leaving.
Boyd and Summer return, fighting. Max tells them to stop it. He goes to the pub for some paperwork, and asks the two of them to watch Oscar for him. Boyd tells Max that he's decided it's alright if he doesn't go to uni next year. He explains that he knows about Max's money worries, and says uni isn't an issue for him. Max tells him not to worry about it, they'll sort something out. Boyd tells him he's certain he's failed his exams. He didn't finish any of his papers. He tells Max that he studied, but when he went into the exam room his mind just went blank. Max tells him to wait for the results, it might not be as bad as he thinks.
Max walks in and sees Connor yelling at the computer. Connor tells him about his troubles with editing due to him being illiterate. Max tells him he's not too bad at reading, and his emails to Lou were good. Connor tells him that emails are different. The article has "lots of red and greed squiggly lines popping up, mocking me." Max offers to look at it, and Connor more than welcomes the help. He tells him he'll explain the whole thing to Carmella after this article is written.
Lana tells Sky about her date last night. She can't believe her luck: she finally clicks with this amazing person, and she's about to leave. "The path of true love never runs smooth, yadda yadda yadda," Sky says. Lana tells Sky to admit she wants to get back with Boyd. She says that they were made together. Serena returns to get her paycheque that she forgot. Lana and Sky plan to get Boyd and Serena together by asking someone to pass on a message. That person is Serena. Sky asks her to get Boyd to meet her outside Grease Monkeys at 5.
Serena drops by to pass on her message to Boyd. It seems he has something to say to Serena as well, so she lets him go first. He gives her a Christmas present: a CD of some of her favourite music. Serena then passes on her message from Sky, but tells Boyd 4 o'clock instead of 5.
Max tells Connor that his article is good, just his spelling that needs working on. Connor's phone rings. It's Lucia looking for her article. He tells her that he's just about to send it. He really starts panicking when he hangs up. Max tells him the article is fine. Connor says that Max isn't the person who'll have his thumbs broken if it isn't.
Outside Ramsay Street
Serena reads Boyd's card to her, interrupted by Stingray yelling out. Serena accuses him of spying on her, which he denies at first, but then admits to. He tells her that he'll stop if she tells him who her new boyfriend is. Serena tells him she doesn't have a new boyfriend, but he doesn't believe her. He notices the present and guesses it's from the boyfriend, and takes it off her to see. Serena tells him to give it back, she's not saying who it is. She calms down a little, and tells him that they're not together and never will be, so it doesn't matter. She says that the two of them are friends, and if something happens between her and the other guy, it's something he'll have to get used to.
Connor returns, much later than Carmella was expecting. He tells her that he's finished the article, but Carmella already knew because her mother has read it. She didn't like it, she loved it. She wants Connor to edit another three articles this week. She also says that while Connor was out she looked at the original article, written by Sindi. It was horrible, words all over the place. A baby could have done better. She gets up to call Sindi to fire her, but Connor stops her. He asks her to give Sindi another chance, but Carmella won't listen, so he is forced to reveal his secret to her.
Max looks over his papers, cursing "bloody David Bishop". Summer comes in and tells Max to cheer up because Steph will be home soon with lots of presents and hopefully some good news. And she soon does return, and immediately Summer starts asking questions. Steph asks about Lyn and Jack, and Max tells her they're both out. Summer asks Steph if she's pregnant yet, and Max tells her to go feed Harvey. Steph tells Max that her HCG levels are up, which means she is more than likely pregnant, but tells Max not to say anything until they are absolutely sure.
Connor has finished telling Carmella about his illiteracy. He tells Carmella that he didn't want her thinking he was an idiot, and her mother was so generous with her job offer. Carmella says he should have told her. She also says that they should keep this secret away from her mother so she doesn't get the wrong idea. When the two of them first got together, her mother had some reservations, especially when she found out that he is a father. Carmella tells Connor that she will help him get up to speed, make his work publishable. Lucia need never know.
Boyd is waiting for Sky, who of course is a no-show. He gets up, just as Serena comes in "to see how it's going". Boyd thinks it's just a cruel prank from Sky, and says he doesn't deserve this. Serena says he should just move on. Boyd says he's going to call her to tell her what he thinks of her, and Serena tries to talk him out of it. Boyd storms off.
