Max telling Lyn that Steph went off to be alone somewhere.
Lana brushing hair away from Sky's face.
Izzy faking pregnancy pains.
*Opening credit change – Karl and Susan are no longer kissing, the shot is now of them standing under the archway of No.28, smiling.
Karl and Izzy's
Karl asks Izzy where she's hurting then hustles her towards the door saying that they have to go to the hospital. Izzy, realizing she's in some strife, protests that she's feeling better now but Karl is insistent they get her checked out.
Poolside at the Bishops'
Serena and Lana are chatting by the pool about how Stingray went psycho on Luka and how Serena doesn't know if she'll ever get to see him again.
SERENA: It was so perfect. I mean, have you ever met someone that just rocks your world? (The camera pans up from Serena to show Sky coming outside – Lana sees her and smiles) LANA: Yeah.
Lyn pops up over the fence with a cheery “Yoo-hoo!” alerting the girls to the fact that the wasps are gone and that they're moving back in. Serena and Lana laugh and Lyn gives Lana a wave and a hello. Lana says an amused hello back.
When they arrive to see Dr. Carter, Izzy tries to play down her episode as something she may have eaten, but the doctor wants to check incase something happened in the uterus or if she may be bleeding internally. Izzy relents, and knowing that she can't let Karl see the ultrasound, asks him to wait outside because having him in there would make her more stressed. The doctor agrees it may be for the best. Karl looks sad, he just wanted to see the baby.
Serena laments that she may have lost her true love now that Luka's gone away. Sky scoffs that she can't have fallen in love in the five seconds that she's known him. The two of them sit in the lounge room while Lana gets them all a drink. Sky whispers that she doesn't know if Lana is being deliberately mysterious or not and asks her what her old school was like when she joins them. She tells them that the teachers were all geeks except for her English one; they were allowed to read authors she liked in that class, authors that Sky likes as well and Serena hasn't heard of. Sky leaves to go and see Boyd and Serena runs to her room to get her new “Sass and Bide copy” jeans. While she's gone, Lana looks in Sky's sketch book she's left on the table and is alarmed to see a superhero caricature of herself in there entitled ‘The Enigma'.
Max and Summer run into Lyn and Oscar in the shop. Max gives Summer some money to go and buy drinks while he talks to Lyn. The atmosphere is frosty between them. He wants to know where Steph is but Lyn won't give him the address, sarcastically saying that she wouldn't want to interfere in anything else. He says it's something that he and Steph need to work out as a married couple but she replies that he obviously doesn't know Steph very well because when she says she wants to be alone, she means it. Summer comes back with the drinks and Max leaps up in annoyance and takes her out of there.
The doctor comes out to see Karl and tells him that Izzy's fine. She says that the womb may have expanded and pinched her internal organs. Karl tells her that there have been other factors such as sleepwalking and erratic behaviour and Dr. Carter asks if they've considered counseling. Karl says they have an appointment with a psychiatrist. Izzy is going to be kept in overnight for observation and Karl goes in to see her.
Karl hugs her and Izzy is relieved to find out that he knows only as much as he should about the results. Izzy reveals to him that ever since the divorce hearing she's been sacred she's going to lose him to Susan. He laughs and says if that were the case he wouldn't have gone through with the divorce. “You funny old thing!” She apologises and says she's glad he made her come in.
IZZY: Because now I know for sure that Hermione is a girl.
KARL: A girl. Just like you knew she was.
IZZY: Call it motherly intuition.
KARL: A little girl… Francesca!
IZZY: … Stella!
KARL: Whatever her name is I just hope she's like her mum.
Sky comes home to find Serena and Lana talking about shoes. Lana gets up to leave and Serena teases her by asking if she's going to see Brendan. Lana says she's going to cool things down for a while in that department. When she leaves Sky says that Lana isn't into Brendan at all but Serena thinks she is. Sky flips through her sketchbook and notices that all her Enigma cartoons are missing. Serena figures out that they were of Lana and that she's probably mad. Sky's annoyed and says she never meant for her to see them in the first place.
Karl swings by to see Izzy in the morning. He brings along some presents – flowers and a pink baby jumpsuit now that they know the sex. Max and Summer come by to see her and Summer is excited to learn the baby is a girl. Izzy says she knows she's been stressed lately but she feels a lot better. Karl says she will be as stress-free as possible when they get home to their “oasis”. “How did I get so lucky,” she smiles before kissing him. Max looks a little downcast.
Max catches up with Lyn as she's wheeling Oscar up the driveway and says that he really needs to see Steph. Lyn says she's not sure that Steph wants to hear what he's got to say. “Nor am I,” he replies. “But doesn't she deserve the chance to make that decision herself?” Lyn looks contemplative.
Erinsborough High Art Room
Sky and Lana can't believe that they have to sew the costumes for the play as part of their detention. They both admit that they can't sew and Sky is surprised that Lana can't, given her love for clothes. Lana jokes that some of them just go to the shopping mall “and buy what the magazines tell us to”. When Sky is over at the costume rack Lana throws a paper aeroplane at her back. Sky opens it up to see her Enigma cartoon now with the added caption ‘Don't always believe your eyes'. Sky says it's a nice line.
Erin struts in and fawns over the costumes. She's one of the leads in the school play and says the final product “better be pretty”. She warns Lana that she better be careful or else she'll fall in with the dodgy crowd. Lana says that maybe she likes the dodgy crowd and makes a joke at the expense of Erin much to Sky's surprise.
Country – Stanno's
Max drives up the driveway and sees Steph's bike parked out the front of the house. She walks out the front door when she hears the car and stares at Max. When he reaches her they hug and he kisses her on the cheek.
Lana and Sky are trying to pin Erin's dress costume together while she's in it, managing to stick the pins in her more than the material. Erin complains that they're pulling the costume too tight and making her bum look huge. Sky mocks that all the girls in school are envious of her figure and that they think she's a goddess. Erin notices that Lana is looking at Sky through all of this and snits that she should be looking at her instead. When the costuming is done, Lana says to Sky that she thinks Miss Enigma needs a sidekick, “she can be based on you, and we can call her…Freak Girl”. Sky loves the idea and Erin snitches that if you ask her, they're both freaks.
Max says he's sorry for being so stubborn about the fertility issue and Steph says that it's okay, it's not easy on any of them. He says he was scared of the thought of going through all the heartache only to end up failing anyway. She asks how he feels now about IVF and he says it's a great idea – as a last resort. He's concerned about the expense and the needles among many things and suggests a compromise. He'll do all the right things, eat the right food, wear boxer shorts, whatever, “and if after two years we don't have a result…” Steph is astonished to hear this timeline.
STEPH: Two years?
MAX: Yeah, I just think we should give nature a chance before committing to something as full on as IVF.
STEPH: What, so two years is the bottom line is it?
MAX: I've thought about this a lot… Yep.
Sky has just finished drawing Freak Girl. Lana compliments her on the drawing and Sky says it's odd spending time with her because an enigma doesn't even begin to describe her, “you've gone from alpha girl to caped crusader at the speed of light!” Lana jokingly asks which one the mask is and Sky says that she should tell her. Lana changes the subject and says that they should make a cartoon. Sky likes the idea and starts up episode one: ‘Enigma and Freak Girl vs. the Barbie-bots', with Lana's suggestions.
Erinsborough High – Lockers
Serena notices that Summer is looking upset and asks if she's okay. Summer tells her that her dad and Steph are fighting and she thinks they might split up. Serena laughs that if she got worried every time her parents fought “I would have had a nervous breakdown by now”. She reassures Summer that things will be alright. Lyn comes by to see Summer and asks if she wants to join her step-grandma for afternoon tea at the Coffee Shop. She says yes and asks why but Lyn smiles and says “just 'cos!”.
Serena is surprised to see Sky and Lana getting along really well as they work on their comic together. “Aren't you girls meant to be belting each other with rulers?” Lana says they're just in character and Sky tells her about Enigma and Freak Girl. Lana goes to Serena and they start talking about Australian Idol and their favourite cute guy contestant. As they walk out of the room giggling away Sky can't believe that Lana can keep switching personalities so quickly.
Lyn and Summer are sharing a bowl of ice cream. Summer wonders what her dad and Steph are doing right now. Lyn reckons they're working things out and Summer hopes so because she could really do with a little brother or sister. “I know, love. And I think you just might get one now.”
Sky takes a moment before saying to Lana that it must be hard having ten different personalities. She likes it but says it's just a bit confusing. Lana just pretends not to have listened and says that Enigma and Freak Girl should have the power to swap identities. Sky thinks that if they swapped places Lana might not be so afraid to be herself. Lana says that she meant their characters and not themselves.
Steph tells Max that the fact is she's just so ready to have a baby right now and she thinks he is as well. “Can't you feel that?” He says he can't and all he feels is scared. He's scared that the cancer might come back due to the stress of her trying for a baby. Steph says she wants a baby so badly that she's prepared to face any obstacles, “I hoped that you felt the same.” He tries not to cry and says he loves her but having a child with him is going to be a long and complicated process and he won't put her life in danger like that due to the risks.
MAX: Believe me, I know how much you want this child. The only way for you to have what you want, safely… is to leave me.
MAX: No, Steph. You've gotta leave me. Find someone who can give you the family you want without all the complications.
Steph can't believe what she's hearing.
Outside Erinsborough High
Sky and Lana are leaving to go home and are joking about how awful their costumes are going to be because of their horrible sewing skills. Sky laughs that maybe Erin's costume will fall off on stage and they'll never have to work on another school play again, and they'd have the pleasure of Erin never speaking to them again. “Things just keep getting better!” Lana is talking and not looking where she's going. Sky grabs her arm to pull her out of the way of an oncoming car. She takes Lana's hand to settle her. “You didn't even look then! Do you want to be hit by a car? I don't want to lose you just yet, I'm just getting to know you!” Sky walks off and Lana follows her.
Steph wants to know if this is what it's really come down to after all they've been through. Max says it's not what he wants but he can't see any other way around it. Steph emphatically says IVF but he replies that he's not risking it.
STEPH: Max are you crazy? I don't want to be with anyone else, I love you.
He says that she'll end up hating him down the track because the one thing she wants most in the world he can't give her. Steph says she won't but he says he'd rather he lose her than her end up hating him.
MAX: Tell me Steph, can you live with never having a child?
(She looks at him but doesn't say anything)
MAX: I love you Steph.
He walks away and out the door leaving Steph all alone to think about things.
