Susan telling Lyn and Joe that Karl doesn't have a drinking problem
Taj offering Stu the caravan park to stay at
Stu's caravan is an absolute pigsty. The camera pans over all the mess, to Stu reading a paper on the bed. A boy pops up in the window and tries to sneakily steal a sandwich Stu has left on the table. "Didn't want it anyway," says Stu without even looking up. The boy grabs it and runs.
Karl and Susan are talking about the formal, and Karl compliments Susan on her ability to get through to the kids. Susan tells Karl that Audrey's tags got sent to them in the post. Lyn and Joe walk in with Oscar. Karl asks about Oscar's ear and says he'd like to check it again in a couple of days. Lyn and Joe stall for awhile until they finally tell Karl that they took Ozzy to another doctor already. They guiltily go back outside leaving Karl confused until Susan confesses that Lyn and Joe think he may have a drinking problem.
Max asks Steph how she feels about moving back in, but she just wants to see how today goes - The day she finds out if she's in remission or not. Max is really positive, and Steph wants to be, but she also wants to prepare herself if she still has cancer.
Steph: "I just can't go to this appointment today without considering what it will mean for me if I haven't gone into remission. If it hasn't worked."
Max: "Hey, we'll cross that bridge if we come to it."
Steph: "Max... we're on the bridge."
They realise that Summer is eavesdropping, and Summer says that Steph'll be okay. Izzy comes in and gives Max a few hundred dollars, "Just don't want anyone to think I'm not good for it." Izzy takes Summer shopping while Max and Steph go to get the results. Izzy wishes Steph the best of luck.
Toadie and Connor have a laugh about David Bishop's bin obsession, and Toadie says that Connor should see how organized David's desk is at work. Rocco saunters in and tells Connor to scoot so he can have a word with Toadie. "You and me have got a little problem."
Karl is complaining to Susan that his shaky hand in Ozzy's appointment could have meant anything, and he thought that the Scully's were his friends. He pauses when Susan said it may not have been just that. She tells him about confiding in Lyn, but he can't stay angry at her because Susan tells him that she feels better that he's seeing a counsellor, he now feels guilty. Susan reminds him that he has a session now, and he gives her a big kiss "because I love you." Susan looks a bit perturbed.
Taj brings over some food for Stu and starts to clean up a little until Stu snaps at him to stop. Taj says that Stu can't live like that forever, and if he needs anything to let him know.
Stu: "There is one thing."
Stu: "Can you stop being so nice to me."
Stu: "Because I don't deserve it."
Taj leaves Stu to stew.
Lyn's distressed about waiting for Steph's results, and Joe is trying to be calm for the both of them. "I can't lose her, Joe." Joe says that she shouldn't think like that, and that Steph's a fighter. He answers the phone - Max tells them to come over right away. Lyn gets herself worked up.
Rocco has Toadie by the neck, inches away from his face. He tells him to sort the problem out, or there'll be consequences. Taj looks freaked as he passes Rocco on his way in. Toadie says Rocco's going to kill him, and goes psycho at Taj. It turns out that one of the dancers in the video is Rocco's girlfriend's cousins and he wants all the copies of the tape back. Connor hears this part.
Connor: "Which one, Darla or Bambi?"
Toadie: "I dunno! I was too busy trying to stop his head from butting me!"
Toadie grabs Taj by the scruff of the neck, "You have got some very fancy footwork to do, ka-pish?"
(Toadie also mentions that Rocco will put him "at the bottom of Lassiter's lake" which I thought was a bit odd him saying considering the Dee circumstances...)
Max, Steph, Izzy, Lyn and Joe are having a champagne celebration for Steph's remission. Summer is holding Ozzy, and Max rang Valda to tell her the good news.
Steph: "Can I just say something? They told me my cancer's gone, but it hasn't... I mean, the lesson of the cancer hasn't gone, and I don't want it to. I wanna keep seeing the world through those same eyes. Eyes that take nothing for granted. Not friends, not family, not a partner. I read this little quote that says, 'Love alone heals' and, while taking nothing away from my doctors, I think I'm living proof of that. And Max, I'd love to move back in with you if you'll have me!"
Max: "What do you reckon?!"
They kiss. Izzy says it's great news about Steph moving back in, but you can tell by the tone of her voice that she's just pretending to be overly excited. They all toast again.
Karl's confiding in Izzy about Susan. He says he does love her, but lately he keeps getting this niggling feeling. He also doesn't understand why she had to tell Lyn everything. Izzy says that people love to gossip since they have nothing better to do, and that her and Karl aren't like the rest of them.
Stu spots the boy coming out of his caravan with some of his belongings and chases after him. He catches the boy right where he's living - Under a tarp leaning against a fence... with a dog that looks suspiciously like Audrey. Hmm. They boy says he knows that Stu knew about him nicking his stuff, why did he bust him this time over a few comic books.
Karl checks his phone messages and discovers Susan has left him three. He says he better go. "Not a long leash, is it?" says Izzy, and Karl says he has been gone awhile. Izzy tells him that he worries too much, and plays the victim.
Izzy: "If you're that miserable in your life, do something about it!"
Karl: "It's not that simple. I'm married, I have responsibilities."
Izzy: "It is that simple. It's very simple. It's a choice. It's a choice to be happy. Right now you're not doing anyone any favours. Not yourself, and certainly not Susan."
Stu and the boy are chatting at Stu's caravan. The boy tells him that the dog's name is 'Scruff' and he found her by the side of the road without any tags. He wants to know why Stu wanted the comics, and Stu says they remind him of being a little kid again. Stu gets some information out of the boy -His mother is dead, and by the way he speaks about his dad they don't have a good relationship. Stu introduces himself properly, and the boy introduces himself as 'Clarkey'.
Toadie gives all the tapes to Rocco. Connor and Taj come out of hiding when Rocco leaves, and Taj says everything's better now. Toadie says it could have been so much worse and knocks roughly on Taj's head, "Hello? Is this thing working?!" Taj hopes that no one put the tape up on the net. "Brilliant," says Toadie, "Thanks for bringing it up."
Susan is ringing the hospital to check if Karl is there. She looks really worried.
Joe and Summer are discussing elaborate 9-reindeer Christmas decorations with Max and Steph looking on.
Joe: "Maybe your dad can do that, do his bit."
Max: "Nine reindeer! I don't think so."
Joe: "Well what are you going to do then?"
Max: "Put up a Christmas tree."
Joe: "Oh what, out the front?"
Max: "Nah, in the lounge."
Joe: "Where's your Christmas spirit?!"
Max: "... In the corner of the lounge."
Joe and Summer go to get the tree out of the garage. Max and Steph snuggle on the couch.
Steph: "Our first Christmas together!"
Max: "Yeah, the first of many... So are you going to marry me or not?!"
Max: "Well you said that once you got the all clear you'd think about it, my proposal."
Steph: "Yeah, I did, didn't I."
Max: "So, what do you reckon?"
Steph: "Well I said I'd think about it, so I guess I better start thinking about it!"
Max: "I think you better!"
Steph's all happy and smiley. "Remission, it's such a beautiful word!"
Susan is on the verge of tears telling Lyn she knows Karl hasn't been at his counselling sessions - She went there with a picnic today - And how she's been so stupid. Lyn tells her that she's not stupid, but Susan says Lyn was right, "Karl is... an alcoholic."
