Recap
- Karl reminding Susan the reason he left the Bishops' early was because he had paperwork at the surgery to do
- Max tells Steph that she taught him that there are no guarantees in life, and that he renewed his motorcycle license
- Susan receiving the note 'do you know what your husband is up to?'
As Susan looks at the note horrified, Lyn puts a hand on her shoulder and tells her it is just a bad joke. She suggests that an unhappy student might have pulled the prank as some form of revenge. Susan shakes her head distractedly and says to Lyn that someone knows something- it's just too coincidental. She looks at the floor and sighs muttering 'no surprise what his keeping secret. Lyn looks at her helplessly and suggests that she shows the note to Karl. Susan shakes her head and tells her that she will not show Karl the note until she knows the truth.
Karl arrives at a pub. The bartender seems to recognize him and asks him how his day was, and whether he wanted the usual. Karl thanks him and asks whether he can put his drink onto his tab. The bartender passes Karl a drink and he sits at a table and has a mouthful.
Max and Steph arrives at the Hoylands, with Steph laughing and making fun of Max's 'bike.' Steph giggles at how the children at the crossing and the bikie referred to Max's bike as cute or just rolled their eyes. Max hugs her and asks her to stay for dinner. She sighs and says that she'll go home for dinner, but thanks for the offer, and the picnic. Summer then comes in and asks how the picnic was. Steph starts to tell her about the picnic but Summer then interrupts, asking if she would come to the shops with them and stay for dinner. She looks at Max before looking back at Summer who gives her a pleading look. Steph grins and says she would love to. Max smiles at her and she smiles back.
The Hoylands and Steph are sitting at the dinner table and Steph is telling Boyd and Summer about this guy who had a great bike, but then Max pulls up on his little 'bike' and the bikie looks like he'd fall off his bike from laughter. Boyd and Summer snicker but Steph sighs and says that they got to the picnic site... eventually. Max looks amused, but tells them to stop making fun of his beast. Boyd rolls his eyes and Summer corrects him, saying 'slug more like it!' Max puts his hands on his hips and says anyone who makes fun of his bike again wound get any desserts. The other three continue to snicker.
Karl arrives home and the atmosphere is all tense. Susan casually asks him how golf was, and he confesses that he didn't go to golf- that he was at the hospital all day trying to convince a patient to have an operation. He then yawns and admits that he is quite tired and that he will go have a shower. Susan stares after him.
Boyd and Summer are in the kitchen making dessert when Max pulls Steph aside. He asks her if she is all right. She smiles at him and says that she fine, and thanks him for the picnic. Max hugs her and tells her that she doesn't have to stay for the kids' sake. Steph smiles looking into the kitchen at Boyd and Summer, who are fighting over how much maple syrup to put in and says that is a pleasure to stay with them- they are great kids. Max tells Steph that he loves her, and she kisses him.
Susan glances at the closed bathroom door guiltily, before picking up the phone and ringing the hospital. She quietly says that she is after Dr. Kennedy at the hospital today, but couldn't find him. She then echo's 'all day?' and then hangs up looking guilty, but relieved.
Boyd asks Steph if she is ok. Steph says that she is fine, but she's just a bit tired from the picnic today. Boyd smiles, saying that it might have been a better idea to take a nap while they went shopping. Steph pretends to look horrified and exclaims 'and miss out on the Hoyland shopping spree?' Boyd clears his throat and informs her that both he and Summer have been around sick people before- but obviously it would be better if she was well; and that she doesn't have to pretend not to feel sick. He continues, saying that she is part of the family, and they can handle it and are here to help her. Steph smiles and thanks him. He offers her some dessert, and Steph looks hesitant before agreeing, but then tells him that she'll have to go home afterwards. She gets up and stumbles, and Boyd catches her and helps her inside.
Max is up later at night, wandering around when Boyd wakes up and comes out. He asks Max if he is ok, and he nods admitting that the dessert in the sugar is keeping him awake. Boyd laughs and declares it will be the last time Summer is in charge of the sugar. Boyd sighs and then confesses to his dad that it is good to have Steph back. Max smiles and says it definitely is. He looks at Boyd and thanks him for supporting both him and Steph and that he is a rock. Boyd looks embarrassed at the compliment but also proud. Summer then wakes up and asks everyone why they are awake. Max grins at both of them and says that he is again realizing what great kids he has. Boyd pretends to look modest and tells him that Max has always known that he has great kids. Summer thanks Max for not treating her and Boyd like kids- and Max asks them if they would like to watch the midnight movie. Summer skims the TV. Guide and suggest some raunchy late night foreign film, and Max tells her to forget it. All three of them look happier than they have in ages.
Steph wakes up and rushes round saying that she has to get ready for work. Lyn and Joe try and persuade her to stay home today and catch up on some sleep, but she declares that she really wants to work today. Joe offers to drive her to the garage on the way to Lou's and she accepts. The doorbell rings, and Lyn answers it to find Susan at the door. She informs her that she has made some developments on the letter. Lyn looks relieved and asks if she has spoken with Karl. Susan shakes her head, but says that Karl was at the hospital yesterday because she checked, but she has a theory on who wrote the letter - Isabelle Hoyland. Lyn shakes her head and tells Susan that she is being too judgmental against Izzy now, and that she shouldn't jump the gun. Lyn then expresses that the only way Susan can sort this out is if she talks to Karl and stop speculating. Susan's face lights up and declares that telling Izzy that she knows about the letter is an even better idea. She thanks Lyn and leaves - and Lyn looks absolutely shocked.
Lou is on the phone promoting Trixie Tucker. He exclaims into the phone 'What do you mean you have never heard of Trixie Tucker? Where have you been, under a rock?!' Joe is waiting impatiently by the bar with his tool kit. When Lou gets off the phone he apologizes to Joe for keeping him waiting and leads him out the back to work on the matience.
Summer is asking Max whether Steph can stay more often. Max tells her not to pressure Steph into things, but Summer then interrupts saying that he can just hint it. Max sighs and says that Steph can when she is ready and that she will be late for school. He ushers Summer through the door, and follows, leaving Boyd and Izzy rushing around. Izzy asks Boyd if he is all right with Steph coming back into their lives, because it is quite distressing having someone sick to look after. Boyd tells her that he is fine about looking after Steph and that it sounds like Izzy is the one with the problem, and that it sounds like she doesn't want Steph around. Izzy looks taken aback, and ushers Boyd through the door, telling him to hurry up.
Joe is sitting at the pub eating lunch when Rocco arrives. He eavesdrops on Lou and Rocco and hears the wrong end of the conversation. Rocco says to Lou that he brought 5 kilo's for him, the finest in Brazil. Lou grins and declares that he likes the way Rocco thinks. Joe jumps to conclusions and looks absolutely horrified.
Susan walks into the coffee shop and Izzy looks surprised to see her. Izzy welcomes Susan back and says that she hasn't seen her and Karl in a long time. Susan raises her eyebrow and informs her that she isn't here about an order she's here to ask Izzy about the letter she sent. Izzy looks confused, and Susan scoffs and tells her to drop the innocent act. Izzy shrugs and says to Susan that her innocent act is genuine, because she hasn't got a clue what she is on about. Susan rolls her eyes and exclaims that trying to put a wedge between a husband and wife is beyond spiteful- it's absolutely pathetic. Izzy looks lost for words, before looking upset. She says to Susan that if she is here to falsely accuse and not order anything, she can leave. Susan looks pleased at the confrontation and closes the door behind her. Izzy grins after Susan leaves and begins to smirk.
Karl is putting flowers in a vase when Susan comes home. He looks embarrassed at being sprung and gives Susan the half- filled vase. Susan looks confused and asks what she has done to deserve flowers. Karl grins and says that he feels guilty for neglecting her and wanted to surprise her. She continues to look sceptical - and Karl breaks down admitting that the florist was having a sale. She informs Karl that she has come back from the coffee shop and has had a talk with Izzy. He looks astonished and says that he thought the coffee shop was out of bounds. He then continues telling her that it is great that she and Izzy have put their differences aside, because Lassiter's was getting too expensive and the Izzy is a genuinely nice person. She asks Karl if he has been to the Coffee Shop recently- and he walks towards the door saying that he would never go behind her back. He closes the door behind him and Susan sighs.
Steph, Max, Summer and Boyd are having a snack when Izzy arrives. She tries to make conversation but is ignored. She looks resentful, but then offers to give Steph a make- over, facial, hair and nails. Steph thanks Izzy for the offer, but it isn't really necessary. She ignores that and but a hand on Steph's bandanna and says that a make- over would even cover her bald spots. Steph looks uncomfortable and pulls away from Izzy, and Izzy looks taken aback and quickly leaves the room. Steph gives the others an apologetic look before putting her face in her hands. The two kids sit next to her and comfort her, while Max puts a hand on her shoulder and then follows Izzy. Izzy looks like she has been crying and says that she was only trying to help. Max tells her to take it easy and to stop being insensitive about Steph's appearance. Izzy mumbles an apology to Max and leaves.
Rocco leaves the pub, leaving Lou and Joe. Lou asks Joe if he would like to try some of the finest stuff money can buy, and Joe jumps up uncomfortably and exclaims that trying to push that stuff onto your friends is a terrible thing to do. Lou interrupts him saying that coffee had never hurt anyone and Joe looks confused. Joe then recovers and mumbles that coffee can be addictive and leaves the pub looking embarrassed. Lou looks slightly confused.
Karl enters the coffee shop and Izzy looks up pleased, saying 'well if it isn't the Doctor! I thought you were barred from here.' Karl smiles and says that since she and Susan have repaired their differences, he can come back. Izzy looks confused but then catches on and looks pleased. Karl looks at the muffins on the table and admits that he has missed her muffins. Izzy smiles flirtingly and offers one to him, on the house. Karl thanks her and asks if he can wash his hands. Izzy points to the room out the back and tells him that he knows where it is, and Karl heads out there, leaving his phone behind. While he is washing his hands the phone rings and Izzy looks around before picking it up. She sees that it is Susan and picks it up. She flirtingly answers 'Karl's phone,' and Susan's looks shocked. Her eyes boggle out of her head, before then looking like her worst fears are confirmed. She hangs up quickly and Izzy laughs. Karl then comes back and takes the muffin and smiles at Izzy before leaving. Izzy calls after him and Karl turns around. She holds up his phone and he looks embarrassed and thanks her. She grins, looking quite amused.
