- Harold telling Lou that he doesn't understand his family, and feels that he doesn't belong
- Stu telling Toadie about Life Mechanics, while he scoffs about it
Lil is reading Sky's fortune through a teacup. She tells her that she sees a boy, a handsome boy with blonde dreads. Sky laughs and says that Lillian has seen the picture on her dressing table- and to note that she needs an update. Lil laughs and assures Sky it is her sixth sense, while Serena is shocked to hear about Sky having a boyfriend and wants her to give her the gossip. Sky bluntly refuses to.
Stu and Toadie are in the Coffee Shop getting some food when Taj comes in looking flustered. He tells them that his father has just got a new job, which offers an extra $30 000 salary. They both look happy for him, however Taj continues. He informs them that in his father getting the job the family have to move interstate. Toadie and Stu look stunned, but Stu gets over it quickly and points out that Taj is 18 and can make his own decisions. He brightens up at that, but he admits that he doesn't want to face his parents. Stu suggest that he comes to the Life Mechanics seminar afterwards with him, and hopefully that will give him the courage to stand up to his parents. Taj agrees, but Toadie scoffs. Stu asks him to come as well, and if Toadie doesn't like it, he promises that he will not pester him about it. Toadie grudgingly agrees.
The new extension of the Bishop family and Sky are dancing round the living room to Italian music, when Harold comes home. Sky calls out for him to join them, but Harold informs them that he has other things he has to do. Lillian breaks away from the dance, and asks Harold to promise that if he is feeling uncomfortable about them staying there, please mention it to them. He forces a laugh and assures that it is a pleasure to have them there. Lillian still begs him to promise, and in the end he agrees. Harold then looks over to Sky and Serena who are happily dancing.
Karl and Susan have gone out on a drive, and are sitting at a café having coffee. Susan thanks him for coming today and says to Karl that they should do this more often. Karl agrees, and she goes on to admit that she just needed a change of scenery. Karl sarcastically interrupts and reminds her 'to get away from certain people.' Susan rolls her eyes, and continues that she is a bit-. Karl cuts her off, supplying the word 'eccentric,' and she makes a face towards him. She picks up her coffee and asks Karl to blend in.
The Bishops pick up David's car from the garage. Harold thanks Stu for repairing the damage, but David immediately goes round to the side of the car and inspects it. Harold, Lillian and Serena look politely bewildered, however Stu looks uncomfortable. David admits that he saw a mark, but it must have been the sunlight. Stu offers to repair the car on a regular basis, but David tells him that he has lined up a mechanic in Eden Hills, which specialize in luxury cars. He quickly tells Stuart that he didn't mean to offend him, but then we see Jonathan and his car in the background. Stu glances and him and smiles, and then tells David that he can fix cars better than those so called mechanics in Eden Hills can, and he doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Of course David has money to throw around, so that's ok. David looks taken aback.
Karl and Susan arrive at the Scullys to see how Steph is going. Karl and Joe greet awkwardly. Lyn and Steph thank Karl for his help and support with Steph's cancer and also Lyn's PND. Karl assures them that they did the recovering on their own and they deserve the praise. Lyn, Susan and Steph go and check on Oscar, leaving Joe and Karl alone. Karl awkwardly tries to start a conversation, but Joe stops him and warns him that the rest of the family think he's is wonderful- but he doesn't feel the same way. He tells Karl to go and find another family to get friendly with and help, and Karl storms away frustrated. Susan and Lyn emerge from Oscar's room and look around the kitchen to see where Karl's gone. Susan asks Joe where Karl went, and Joe looks up and in a surprised tone goes 'look at that! He's gone!' Susan and Lyn look at each other helplessly.
At the life mechanics seminar Jonathon is giving a speech about taking control of your life. He asks people about what they find is going on in their life, and Stu stands up and declares that he is sick of people running over him. Toadie whispers to Taj that if this 'Life Mechanics' doesn't get any better he will run Stu over himself. Toadie interrupts asking when will they get to changing tyres, and the class laughs. Jonathon smiles and introduces him as the comedian of the class who hides behind his witty remarks. He then faces the class and promises that Life Mechanics will change your life.
David is making suggestions about the coffee shop and asks Harold if he has thought about corporatizing. Harold assures him that he isn't interested in making a profit, and has sold 20% of the company to Izzy Hoyland, so he can have some money to foster children. When David hears this he exclaims 'What?! Dad you are so gullible, where is the profit in that?!' Harold looks hurt, and Lillian pulls David over and lectures him about his attitude. She tells him to stop picking faults with his father because he is a caring person; and to swallow his pride and talk to him. David looks taken aback by being addressed this way, and she kisses him says sharply 'that's your last warning.'
Jonathan then continues with the seminar, asking them to think of the worst moment of their lives. He asks Taj to speak about his experience, but he won't talk about it. He then asks Stu who admits that the worst moment of his life is when he caught his fiancée in bed with his best mate. Jonathan then points out that would be the best moment of his life, because he didn't make the mistake in marrying her and Stu agrees. He then picks on Toadie who declares that he has been to hell and back, and he wouldn't know anything about his feelings or experiences. Jonathon assures him that Life Mechanics is hear to help him, but Toadie jumps up and tells them that this is all a scam, and they are not going to get him to join some cult. He stands at the door, waiting for Stu and Taj-but when they look at him and stay seated Toadie storms off.
Joe is constructing a wooden stand, and Steph asks him how he is going. Joe tells her that this stand is pretty tricky to put together, and it is lucky that he is a builder. He then scoffs and mutters that he should ask the professor for help. Steph sighs and tells her father to give Karl a break. She admits that she couldn't have got through the diagnosis without Karl and that he has been really good to her. Joe then bursts out that he should have told them that she had breast cancer, and he kept it all quiet. Steph reminds him of patient confidentiality and that he did want to tell them, but he respected her wishes. She asks him to make up with Karl- for her sake. Joe has a look of hesitation on his face.
Joe is in the Kennedys' kitchen looking at the lino. He tells them that he has some new boards in the garage, and can fix the floor for the time being. Susan looks at Karl hopefully, and he grudgingly agrees. Joe then offers Karl the homebrew he brought, but Susan reminds Joe that Karl isn't drinking- but she can polish it off. He apologizes and Susan goes to but the alcohol in the cupboard. Joe awkwardly apologizes for being so rude before and hopes that they can put their problems behind them. He holds out his hand and Karl reluctantly shakes it. They look at each other and smile.
Jonathon is using Stu and Taj as demonstrations and asks Taj what girlfriends he thought were realistic. Taj names Nina, who left him for his best friend and Libby, who he thought could love him but never did. Jonathon then asks Stu the same question, and he thinks carefully before naming Tracey and Flick, and hesitantly Libby. Taj looks stunned and says to Stuart that he never knew that he and Libby had something special. Stu then admits to Taj that it was just before Lib started his relationship with Taj, and he was honestly shocked when he found out; after all, he thought that things were well between him and Lib. Jonathan interrupts and tells them that they hold true friendship because they can openly discuss situations like that. He then finishes by saying that people can make their own choices- however it is up to them.
Karl and Susan are explaining to the Scullys about the envelope they found under the lino for Jamie Clarke. Steph then suggests that Jamie can be a girl, and Susan admits that they never thought of that. Karl continues, saying that Pam and Doug were there before them, so the Clarke's must have been there before that. Steph then excuses herself because Max is coming over. Lyn asks her if they are back on, and she smiles and says to her not to get their hopes up. They wish her good luck and she leaves. Lyn then asks Susan to open the envelope and at the same time Joe and Karl exclaim 'No! You can't do that!' Lyn huffs and says that it was only a suggestion; but the two look amused that they are getting along now. Joe then suggests putting an ad in the paper and they agree that advertising for Jamie Clark is the best option.
Serena is trying to find out about Boyd, but Sky refuses to talk about him, telling her to mind her own business. Harold goes outside, and David follows him. He asks if he can sit next to him and Harold looks surprised and makes room. David looks at the garden and offers to give Harold a hand with it. Harold admits that the garden gets away from him sometimes so some help would be nice. David breaks the awkward silence by saying that if his families are getting in the way, they can move to a hotel. Harold assures him that it isn't necessary, and that he doesn't see much of them so he enjoys every minute of it. He then tells David that his family are truly people to be proud of. He then apologizes about making fun of the foster family idea. . Harold assures him that it is all right. An awkward silence follows.
Jonathon tells Stu that he wants woman to help him co-drive his life and help him decide how his life turns out. He then tells Taj that the fear he has towards relationships is in his head and he needs to understand himself first before understanding others. The class applauds and Jonathon declares the end of the seminar. Stu and Taj clap loudly along with the class.
