Dee's Nan tells Toadie that Dee is out with another guy -Steph is confused over the 'L' word -Darcy promises James the cheque first thing in the morning
Steph comes over with Harvey. Summer offers to feed him, and she says that she loves him. Boyd says that she doesn't, and Max says it's just a figure of speech. Steph says "It's like when people say they love chocolate cake, that sort of thing." The phone rings and Boyd goes to answer it saying it'll be Heather. Steph tells Summer she's bringing Joe's metal detector to the beach tomorrow. Max asks about Moco, and Steph says that she starts again next Monday.
Darcy and Dee are having drinks. Darcy's mobile rings and the name on the screen says 'James'. He hangs up. Dee asks who he's avoiding. Darcy wonders what Dee would say if he asked her "to elope across the Bass Strait" with him. He says that they had a great time in Tasmania, and Dee says "Yes, as friends." She's not ready for anything more yet, "You know that." Darcy says yes he knows, and he'll back off. Dee says she thinks she ought to move out of Darcy's to have more space. He says to her to move out, only when she knows where she's going. Dee relents. Darcy goes to get another drink, but Dee is going to head off. She tells Darcy to stay and enjoy himself. As she leaves, Darcy's mobile rings again.
Joe has just woken up from a nap. Valda welcomes him back. Lyn comes in with her baby sheet she has been knitting for the pusher. They talk about how much more spare time she has thanks to Valda. Steph comes in the front door with Joe's missing suitcase. Joe gives out presents. He got a model motorbike for Steph from "Harley's in Harlem". She loves it. He gives Lyn a scarf from 5th Avenue because it had "something like Breakfast at Tiffany's about it". She's thrilled. He gives Harvey a bone. Joe gives Valda a present too - a New York Nicks Basketball singlet! "You used to play netball, didn't you?" he says. Valda is suitably underwhelmed.
Toadie walks up to Darcy at the counter. Darcy lies to him and says he's been at a medical conference in Canberra. Toadie tells Darcy about his trip to see Dee in Tasmania, and how Dee's Nan told him she was out with her new boyfriend. Darcy nearly chokes on his beer, "Boyfriend?!" Toadie says he'd love to get his hands on that guy. Darcy tries to convince Toadie he's better off not knowing all that kind of stuff. Toadie asks when Dee is due back, and he lies again and says later that night. Toadie says he'll call her tomorrow. Darcy looks worried.
Joe is settling down to watch a game of footy. Valda bursts in and puts a video tape in declaring it "Bold night". Lyn explains Valda is trying to hook her on to watching The Bold and the Beautiful, and she tapes them so they can watch them together. Joe is insistant on watching the footy though, and switches the tape off. Lyn says they'll just postpone it then, and Valda says they'll have to, "I'm not gonna make a fuss". "Bit late for that," Joe mutters.
Darcy is on the phone to Dee's Nan making sure she didn't tell Dee about Toadie's visit, to cover his tracks. He comes out into the waiting area and tells Dee he spoke to her Nan, but pretends he was asking about her arthritis medication. Dee goes into Karl's office to see her client. Toadie comes in and asks if Dee's there. Darcy says yes, but she's really busy. Toadie says he'll wait, but Darcy convinces him it wouldn't be professional for both of them. Toadie gives in, but he wants Darcy to tell her that he called by.
The Hoyland's, Steph and Summer's friend Lisa are set up on the shore. Boyd and Steph race out to the ocean with the surfboard. Summer and Lisa set off with the metal detector to explore. Max settles himself on a deckchair to watch Boyd and Steph. Music montage of Boyd and Steph trying to surf, with Max watching them laughing and shouting out encouragement. And Summer and Lisa combing the beach with the metal detector. Summer and Lisa decide to widen their search area. Summer calls out to Max to tell him where she's going, but he can't hear her. She gives up and runs after Lisa. Steph and Boyd are getting along famously in the surf. They run up to the shore. Max asks Boyd how Steph went, and he jokes that she'll be better with a bit of practice. Steph laughs and ruffles his hair.
Joe has made himself and Lyn some BLT's (bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich's). Lyn can't have bacon at the moment. Valda walks in the front door talking to Stella and Blanche not realising that Joe and Lyn are home. They're not impressed. Valda had to bring them back from the Kennedy's, "Apparently Dr Karl has some issues with them." Joe says a few snide comments about the "spoilt" dogs. Valda goes to put them down for a nap. Lyn laughs at Joe and says he's as bad as Karl. Joe says it's time for the poodles and Valda to go. Lyn says she can't let Valda go, she has nowhere else to stay and she's broke. Valda walks out and overhears them talking about her. Joe says how he wants some time alone together with Lyn before the baby comes. Lyn persuades him to let her stay for a bit longer, but Joe still wants her to set a departure date. Valda looks sad.
Boyd and Steph are back in the water for more lessons. Max watches, eating a sandwich. Everything is happy and lovely.
Lyn is on the couch knitting. Valda comes out and gives Lyn a couple of hundred dollars to cover her way for now. Lyn says it's not necessary, but Valda insists she keep it, the "last thing I want to be is a freeloader".
Boyd and Steph run up to the shore. Steph asks where Summer and Lisa are. Max begins to look worried when he can't see them, "Well, they were just over there." Max and Steph get up and look around in concern.
Max and Steph are walking along the beachy area. Max is calling out for Summer and Lisa. They walk past a sign, and do a double take. It reads 'Nudist Beach Area: Nude Bathing Only!' They turn around and see a nude couple walking past them. Max and Steph can't help but look, and then quickly avert their eyes. "I guess that answers my question", Max says and they follow the couple.
Joe asks if Lyn got a date from Valda, and Lyn says no. Joe says it's a nice gesture giving the money, but it's not about that. Lyn feels awful for taking it. They hear Valda in the lounge room, and are surprised to see her near the front door with all her belongings. She's giving them some space -by moving into the garage. Joe is mortified, "In my garage?!" Valda says she'll be fine in there. Joe looks like he just might cry.
Summer, Lisa, Max and Steph are walking back to Boyd. The girls are giggling, "They were so old and wrinkly!" Max tries to be stern with them, but can't help laughing when their backs are turned. Max is a bit worried about what Lisa's mum might say, but Steph says not to worry. Summer and Lisa go up to Boyd and tell him about the nude people, laughing their heads off.
The Coffee Shop:
Toadie walks up to Dee at her table, and says they need to talk. Dee says there's nothing to say. Toadie asks her if she knew he came to see her in Tasmania. Dee looks surprised.
Boyd is sitting behind the lounge room wall next to the phone, listening in on Max and Steph's conversation. Max and Steph are cuddling on the couch, saying how quiet it is when the kids are in bed. Max compliments her on how well she is doing with them. Steph says she actually loves spending time with Boyd, much to her surprise. Max says "There's that word again...the 'L' word." Steph says "Oh, that word." She looks up at Max not knowing what to say next. Max smiles at her and says "I'm in love with you Steph." She smiles back and says "I love you too Max." They laugh and kiss. Boyd looks very unhappy.
The Coffee Shop:
Dee says it was very brave of Toadie to come and see her in Tasmania, and she wishes her Nan had have told her he was there. Toadie asks if it would have made a difference, and she says "Maybe". Toadie says he wants to work things out, and be with her. Dee smiles wistfully and says "I've missed you so much." Everything is going well until Toadie keeps pressing Dee about the guy she went out with, even though she told him that it was no one important. He won't give up, and Dee says he still doesn't trust her. They start to bicker. Dee says "For a minute there I thought you'd grown up, but you're obviously as insecure and jealous as ever." Dee gets up to go and Toadie tries to get her to stay, but she walks out.
