Recap
Boyd and Summer being found out by Max.
Michelle tells Steph she and Connor are going to New Zealand.
Kennedys'
Karl's inspecting the walls of the house with his stethoscope.
Scullys'
Steph is being told off for giving Connor the passports and there's a heated argument with Joe, while Lyn tries to calm them down. It ends with Joe saying Steph has made it easier for them to run away.
Kennedys'
Susan arrives home to find Karl examining the wall, stethoscope in ears and hammer in hand. 'What's the matter? Is the house sick?'
Karl answers that there's a rat and he thinks he's found the nest. She's a bit dismissive and just wants to get in an exterminator. He thinks the cost's too high, so she groans 'Oh no, you're going to catch it yourself, aren't you.....................
SUSAN: How?..............................
KARL: Patience and cunning.
SUSAN: Ah, you're going to distract it with witty conversation and fine wine and then whack it on the head with a hammer, are you?
KARL: I resent your tone.
SUSAN: I'm going to have a shower.
He follows her into the bedroom, wielding the hammer, but hears a noise and comes back again.
Pub
Max is working and gets his shirt wet. He 's not happy that the only shirt to change into is Lou's. In the background the music is about women 'Emotional walls..........we're kidding ourselves if we think we know the reasons'.
Alex and Steph are in the bar discussing the Scullys' argument when he comes out again wearing the shirt. Alex comments on the shirt as being from the 'Lou Carpenter school of fashion'. Steph tries to make it right by saying she likes it and it suits him. When he explains it's Lou's, She makes it worse by saying it's just like the shirts he usually wears and his face falls.
Scullys'
Joe's frustrated that he isn't being given passenger information. Lyn says there's no point going to the airport as there are so many flights to New Zealand, so he wants to contact Customs.
In the middle of all this Boyd and Summer arrive and have to confess that their offer to do chores is their punishment for making prank calls. Once they've been told to come back tomorrow, Lyn and Joe go back to their 'discussion'. Lyn asks Joe not to ring Customs. 'Give Me One Good Reason', he says. She gets very distressed because of the implications for him as well as for Connor, so he puts the phone down and holds her as she cries.
Pub
Steph and Alex are discussing the situation and Steph is saying Joe is making it worse with his attitude, but he won't listen to her. Max overhears and sticks up for Joe, saying he's a father, he's worried and is justified. Steph describes it as the 'overprotect and over-react' parenting academy and says Max obviously went to the same one.
When she says she won't do it to her kids, he asks what she will do
STEPH: I will listen, learn, try to understand what they're going through.
MAX: Oh, if only it were that easy. You know, maybe you should try to respect your dad's point of view.
Scullys'
Joe's sitting in the dark in his PJs watching TV when Steph gets home.
She sees he's feeling low and he explains he's worried. He understand they're young and in love and Michelle's not an idiot, but he's worried it will get way out of hand. She reassures him that Connor will call and they apologise for earlier. His voice breaks as he says 'She's still my littlest girl' and Steph puts her head on his shoulder 'I know.'
Airport
There's three hours to kill before their flight. While Michelle goes ahead to a coffee shop, Connor 'goes to the toilet'. He rings Joe and asks 'How soon can you be here?'
Coffee Shop, the following morning
Steph sees Max as he comes in carrying a clothes shop bag. He apologises for 'lecturing her' but she says it's Ok, she's had a talk with Joe. When she comments on the shopping as 'cool' he says in an embarrassed way that they're for Boyd. She feels he's brave for going without Boyd and says the label is Alex's favourite. Boyd and Sunmmer come in and Max is obviously pretending he spoke to Boyd about it. Boyd says he's never normally allowed to 'pay that much just for a brand name' and that the clothes are miles too big, even though he likes them baggy. Steph backs Summer up by saying presents have to be bought in equal shares, so the scene ends with Summer asking when Max is taking her shopping.
Airport coffee shop
Michelle is excitedly making honeymoon plans but Connor is distracted. A London flight is announced and he tells her that's his flight 'because he's going home'
She looks tearful and says 'Please don't do this'.
Hoylands'
Summer and Boyd are asking why Max lied about the clothes, when he has taught them not to lie. They really put him on the spot about while he gets dressed.
SUMMER: You know I can't wait until I get old. You get to make up your own rules.
Boyd wants to know why he suddenly wants to wear this stuff, but Summer says it's to impress Steph and that he looks cool. He goes out for a minute.
Airport
Connor's telling Michelle that he has caused such a mess with Immigration and problems for Joe. She's very upset and wants to know how he can do this if he loves her. He points out that now even if they got married Immigration wouldn't let him back into the country so his future's not in Australia. She takes off her pendant and gives it back to him, telling him just to go. He leaves as he sits with bowed head.
Scullys'
Max gives Steph a letter wrongly delivered to his house. She tells him Connor rang and mentions that he's already wearing Boyd's new clothes. She's paying him compliments and they're getting along happily when Alex comes to the door and talks excitedly about the bike-trip they're planning. He's hugging Steph when max leaves and max's face falls as the door closes behind him.
Airport
Michelle begs the desk-clerk to page Connor to get him to speak to her before he gets on the plane. While she waits, Joe arrives, saying Connor rang to ask him to pick him up. He holds her as she cries, asking what flight he's on. 'London'.
Joe sighs and holds her tight.
Pub
Alex is on the phone saying he needs more time, as 'a week won't change much'. He talks to Max about the round Australia trip he's mentioned before. He wants to go sooner and Max agrees to it. He asks what Steph thinks about it all and Alex admits she didn't know how soon it might be. Max says on the one hand that he and can keep in touch and Steph might organise to meet up with him somewhere. He suggests there's no point in making her feel pressured by cancelling the trip because of her.
Alex isn't sure how to take it but thanks him.
Kennedys'
Karl gets in just as Susan's dug a hole in a container. She says she owes him an apology.
KARL: There's a first time for everything. What's brought on this strange occurrence?
She shows him the container. They agree they'll have to clean out the cupboards and as she starts to do it, he walks away. She starts to scream and yell, pointing at something in the corner and they both go in pursuit of the rat using a golf club this time. After much thudding and banging, she tells him to be careful as the rat might still bite him. It's a very bad fake toy. He tells her coldly this is the funniest thing she's ever done. Just as they're beginning to make up, he says he's seen the rat. She starts to mock him, then looks sideways, says "Oooh and beats a hasty retreat.
Airport
Joe catches up with Connor as he's leaving and tells him he can't get on the plane. He tells Connor he runs away when the going gets tough. He should come back and face the music and see what happens. Is he going to stand up and be a man?
