Recap
Lyn tells Tad that exam results aren't the be all and end all in life - he has to find something that's really in his heart and then just go for it.
Susan reads an article by Evan about bullying in The Chronicle. She is appalled.
Hancocks
Evan is reading the same article. He can't believe it's been printed.
Kennedys
Susan is on the phone saying that Erinsborough High doesn't have a bullying problem beyond isolated incidents. She's going to talk to Evan - there must have been a mistake made.
Hancocks
Evan asks Maggie what time her exam is tomorrow - it's at 5pm. Evan shows Maggie the article he wrote. She isn't very pleased at all - he should have shown it to Susan first.
Virginia rings up and Evan says it's his own private view, not the school's official line. Evan says that Susan is burying her head in the sand on the issue(!)
No.30
Joel comes in and tells Toadie and Dee that he's finished his thesis - he's just got it back from the printers. He's looking forward to a future in marine biology. He reckons he'll be a shoo-in for a job with Vernon Wells.
Dee asks Toadie if he's heard from Tim Collins yet. He hasn't - he wonders if he's changed his mind. Dee tells him to call him. Joel says to play it cool and let Tim come to him.
The Coffee Shop
Lyn comes in and fusses over Flick. It was the Biology exam today and it went well. Lyn asks Michelle if she wants to have lunch with her, but Michelle says she's doing something and walks out. Flick says she's probably going to follow Zak around. Lyn is amazed at Michelle's sudden interest in boys - she says she went away for two weeks and the whole world has changed!
Paul comes in. He's been doing his exams at the Exhibition Building. Apparently his exam didn't go very well. Lyn tells him that happiness doesn't begin and end with exam results.
No.30
Toadie is not pleased with Dee for her advice. He rang Tim Collins who told him he'd ring when he had something to tell him. Dee says there's more to life than being a corporate cowboy. Dee is cleaning madly and Toadie asks her if she's OK. Dee says she wants to keep busy because if she stops, she'll run straight into...herself. And that's not something she wants to happen.
School
Susan is ranting at Evan for sending in the article. Evan says he didn't know it was going to be published. Susan says it doesn't matter what his intentions were - he's created a PR nightmare for the school. Susan insists that there's no bullying problem at Erinsborough High but Evan counters that that's a matter for debate. Susan says he purposely tried to undermine her authority. She said Evan promised he didn't have an agenda. Evan says he hasn't, but Susan tells him angrily not to waste her time.
Bishops
Flick and Tad are studying. They advise Paul to study too, but he says, "Why start now!"(!) He goes out. Tad thinks Paul is being clueless. He tells Flick not to panic about the exams.
The Coffee Shop
Maggie and Emily are in the Coffee Shop. Susan comes in - Maggie tells her that Emily's ear problem comes and goes. Maggie apologises to Susan - she says Evan did try to pull the letter before it was published. Susan asks if it's just the bullying situation with Leo or if it's something else. Maggie says she hasn't had a chance to talk to Evan yet. Susan tells her that a school council meeting has been called for 4pm. Maggie suddenly looks worried - clearly, she is thinking about her exam at 5pm. Emily knocks over some things and they start to pick them up. Maggie tells Susan that the situation is between her and Evan.
Hancocks
Evan is telling Maggie that he's been invited to the school council. He says they can get a babysitter for Emily. He suggests Michelle or Genevieve, but Maggie has already tried them. Emily spills her squash and Maggie starts to mops it up. Maggie says that she saw Susan in the Coffee Shop and she's pretty upset. Evan says it's not some trivial pursuit - bullying undermines everything that teachers are trying to do. Evan says that Susan is blind to the problem. Maggie asks him if there really is a problem. Evan says Virginia has rung around the school council and everyone thinks so. Maggie tells him that he's got a lot to lose by going down this path.
Maggie is horrified to see that Emily has drawn a picture on her notes. Evan goes off to ring Virginia.
No.30
Joel comes in and says that Vernon Wells has given his job away to another student. He did get his application in a bit late but thought it wouldn't matter. Joel says he'll try to sweet-talk Professor Wells. Dee says he can't use his smile and good looks to get him places. Joel look a bit put out.
Bishops
Flick is panicking about their exams (just for a change). Paul says he's not going to the exam. They think he's joking. Paul says there's no point going. Tad and Flick exchange looks.
The Coffee Shop
Toadie tells Dee that Joel is one of the good guys - she shouldn't have been nasty to him. Dee says she supposes she was a bit harsh. Toadie tells her to take it out on people who deserve it. Dee says she's a bit messed up. Toadie asks if she wants to talk about it. She says she does - but not now, she'll talk to him later.
Bishops
Flick is trying to reason with Paul - all he needs is a pass. Tad says he needs the options passing his exams will give him. Paul says all he wants to do is to train kids at football. Flick asks what he intends to do for money in the meantime. Paul says he hasn't thought about that yet. Tad says the best he could get without his exams is working in a Sports Store. Paul says he can't see anything wrong with that - in fact, he'll talk to Joel about it. He goes off for a shower.
The Coffee Shop
Paul bumps into Lyn. He tells her he thinks she was right about the exams - he made a decision about his future, that he's not going to do any more exams. Lyn says the only thing she meant was that they should keep a perspective. She asks Paul a question. If he was playing footy and the other team were coming at him twice as big and twice as fierce, what would he do? Paul says you just psyche yourself up and tell yourself that you're going to thrash them. Lyn reckons he should give the exam a go and not run away from it. Paul tells her that the exam starts in fifteen minutes. She gives him some money for a taxi. Paul runs out, much to Lyn's relief.
School Council Meeting
Susan is surprised at the turn out to the meeting. Evan comes in, much to Susan's displeasure.
Scullys
Lyn comes in and sees "Zak" written all over Michelle's folder. She asks if Zak is a boy, but Michelle says no, he's a rare form of pondlife(!) Lyn asks if she likes him and Michelle says he does. Lyn asks if she'll get to meet him. Michelle says she doesn't want to rush things, which Lyn approves of. They have a rather awkward conversation. Lyn says she's not trying to interfere, she's just curious and she wants Michelle to be able to talk to her about it if she wants to. Michelle says she's already spoken to Flick and Steph. Lyn says that Michelle is growing up and it's taken her a bit by surprise. Lyn offers her a vegan slice that she bought at the Coffee Shop
School Council Meeting
Evan is banging on about "systematic torment" by bullying at the school. Susan says it all began with an incident with Evan's son Leo, which hasn't even been proven to be a bullying incident. Evan says it is clear in his mind. Susan says that none of her enquiries have unveiled an ongoing bullying problem at the school, so she can only assume there are "other reasons" for the media flurry. She tells the council that she's seen the confidential letter that the School Council sent to the Education Department about her. She says she's very disappointed that none of them approached her about the issues. Evan doesn't know what's going on. Susan says that she believes that Evan is sincere in his wish to have a debate about bullying. However, she thinks others on the School Council will use Evan as a pawn to stop Susan getting her tenure renewed.
They vote on seeking the assistance of Education Department on the issue of bullying. Everyone votes in favour with the exception of Susan and the Chair of the meeting. The motion is carried. Susan looks harassed.
Hancocks
Maggie is studying and snaps at Emily for nagging for an icecream.
Scullys
Lyn brings in the piece of vegan cake for Michelle and a slice of Lemon Meringue pie for her. Lemon Meringue is Michelle's favourite, but she can't eat it, being a vegan. But when Lyn's back is turned, she takes a forkful. Lyn comes back and sees that a bit of the pie is gone, but she doesn't say anything. She tells Michelle that she loves her and never to forget it.
Hancocks
Maggie hears a car's brakes screech. She looks up from her studying and calls to Emily. There's no answer. Maggie runs out to the road in a panic.
