Greg tells Debbie he's made a bad decision about every aspect of his life and that his wife has left him. Phil tells Hannah she doesn't have to have braces for a few months, but she's ready to have them now.
Debbie encourages Greg to ring his wife and convinces him he doesn't believe in all this ‘psychic nonsense' anymore. He arranges to meet his wife, Hazel and tells her he's been ‘counselled' and they can both spend the whole day with Debbie sorting out their problems. Debbie looks unsure.
A policeman catches Pete stealing paints from Mal's ute.
Debbie tries to mediate between Greg and his wife – Greg tells her he doesn't believe in psychics anymore now that Debbie has explained the trick to it. Hazel thanks her for putting him straight. Debbie tells her Greg doesn't have much confidence in making his own decisions and Hazel is glad she knows so that they can talk stuff through.
Hannah won't show Casper her braces but he pleads with her – she finally shows him and he says they look fine, she shouldn't worry about it. She's not convinced.
Pete tries to run off but Karl stops him – as he tries to run away again Karl grabs him and notices he's got more bruises on his back. He returns the paints when Mal reminds him and then goes off to the surgery to be examined. He tells Karl he fell down the stairs and tries to run off, but Karl wants to do a full examination and threatens to call the police if he doesn't let him.
Hazel and Greg bicker about his decision making, he says his judgement's lousy. Debbie tries to intervene but they argue over her. Hannah comes in and doesn't seem at all disturbed by the angry strangers in her front room. When Debbie leaves the room, they appear at the door and say they can't sort things out on their own, they need her there.
Mal tells Susan about Pete and she is worried about him – Mal says it's funny, Karl goes out of his way to help some loser he knows nothing about but won't give the time of day to Darren Stark who's paid for what he's done.
Karl says Pete's got bruises covering 60% of his body – he's appalled and wants to know who's doing it to him. He says there are laws to protect kids in situations like that and asks why he puts up with it. Pete starts to get upset but puts on a front and continues to say he fell down some stairs and Karl shouldn't feel sorry for him because he's a thief. Karl says everyone has a right to feel safe and if he's being bashed at home he needs protection – he says he doesn't need protection, his Dad's just got a temper it doesn't mean he doesn't love him. Karl calms down and says there are reasons why people lose control and maybe they can get his Dad some help too, he just has to trust him.
Debbie tells Greg and Hazel they don't need her but he wants her to keep him on track because he'll make a mess of things like he always does. She says she feels out of her depth. He wants to know how she works out what to do in her life but she says most of the time she has no idea and they need to talk to a professional! Hazel thinks it's worth a try and Greg agrees. She says she'll call Dr Kennedy.
Casper tells Hannah nobody but her cares about her braces and wants her to come with him to the council to present the petition about the skate ramp.
Debbie thanks Karl for what he's done for Greg. They talk about what happened and Debbie says she feels really bad, she seems to be learning the hard way a lot lately. Karl thinks she's handled the situation really well, besides the psychic advice. She says she's decided to quit.
Hannah and Casper get back having handed in their petition – over a milkshake, Hannah clearly wants Casper to kiss her but he makes a hasty exit.
Back Yard/Inside No. 26
Phil has a go at Debbie for what she's been doing but she tells him to stop going on about it, she's quit her job and doesn't need him shouting at her. He apologises and says he just cares about her, she says it's hard to hear it because she knows it's true. He's glad she sorted it out and thinks Greg is lucky he got a psychic who knows right from wrong. He thinks she was good on the phone and she seemed to enjoy it – she says she did, the money was good, and it was nice to feel like she was helping people. Helen thinks that's where her real talent lies and perhaps she should rethink her business goals and consider something else in that field.
Karl tells Susan about Pete's injuries and they can't believe what his father did to him – Karl wants to show him that all adults aren't monsters and there are some who care and you can trust. Mal listens and thinks it's bull, he says Pete's got his problems but there are plenty of others who deserve his compassion too, like Darren Stark - he's a hypocrit.
Hannah wonders if she should try talking with her mouth shut and is worried because Casper won't kiss her. Phil and Debbie catch her practicing and both try talking without opening their mouths – Hannah isn't amused!
Pete's Dad walks angrily into the surgery and grabs Karl harshly, telling him he had community services round but he'll tell him what he told them, he didn't lay a finger on Pete. Pete backs him up and his Dad tells Karl to stay out of his business and leave his kid alone or he'll be practicing medicine on himself...
